Years ago I was keeping my 1974 Alfa Romeo in our barn because at the time I didn't have a garage. By the way, a barn is a lousy place to keep a car. We kept a bowl of cat food in there to try to entice feral cats into the barn to keep out rodents and birds. While eventually that worked and we did get barn cats, this event was early on. I opened the hood to find the spark plug wells (they are at the top of the cylinder on the old Alfa twin cam) filled with cat food. It turned out the air filter can was full too. After that I bought a large inflatable "garage", a plastic bag you drove on to the bottom and zipped the rest of it around the edge of the car and inflated it with a filtered blower. It worked quite well, but it was a pain to pull the car out. Now I have a garage.

I had a Pontiac Firebird back in the day. We lived in the country at the time. I was awoken by the alarm going off in the middle of the night. I ran out ready to blow someone's head off. It turned out some mice got under the hood and chewed the wires to the alarm and set it off. A few days later, the car started smelling awful. I found some mice had made a nest in the back. When I removed the cover, I found a dead mouse along with more chewed wires. So yeah, those creatures can do some damage.

A mouse had decided to crawl into one of my socks and die once, one also decided to crawl into an unused backpack and die as well, those things just die everywhere and are horrible to live and deal with. Thing is, they were even our mice, they came from next door when the owner moved out. They all died pretty damn fast without food though.

Traps, lights, ultra sound, all kinds of peppers/sprays, leaving the hood open etc. but the one thing that worked was Irish Spring. Ever since she put a bar of Irish Spring soap under the hood she has had zero problems. She drive 3 1/2 hours in the Texas heat and the soap didn’t melt either.

I've heard that rodents were drawn to the insulation part of the wires because they were made out of soybean derivatives. Don't know if it's true, I don't have any information about this but, it's just simply something that I've heard. I've never actually heard about the charge they get buy chewing on a live wire but, I've had several motorcycles that were in storage without any batteries hooked up and noticed some things got chewed on & some things didn't. I had one motorcycle where it got chewed up on the grips and they never touch the wiring harness. That was a 1981 Honda XL125S. Anyway, Don't really know why this happens - just know that it does. Hope this helps keep up the good work have a great day.

I'm going to look into the Ultrasonic rat chaser you've shown, but something I tried that worked well for me, was some of those silly stick-on LED strips. They will also run on a 9 volt, or the car's battery. I had one under the hood and one near the gas tank on my old car, and it kept the little chewing bastards out of the engine compartment, and off the top of the gas tank.

Warm places on the car attractive to critters?Absogorramlutely! Our family cat jumps on the block of my Dad's 67 Buick just before he gets in to drive to work (15+ mi.?). When he gets in it to go home for lunch, he sees a cat sitting next to it in the parking lot. "Looks quite a bit like Koshka," he thinks. Drives home. Has lunch. Drives back to work. Cat still lying there, next to his parking space. Also after work. Drives home after work. Cat not waiting for him in the driveway, as expected. Not in the house, either. The Bright Light Dawns! Tears back to work, fortunate not to have been busted. Koshka lying there, content, and if possible, even more relaxed. Gets up. Contemplates the meaning of life. With dignity and after some thought, accepts a ride home. Inside the car, this time. Cat looks even more like Koshka than previously thought. Dad's lap isn't as warm as the engine block, but a good Emperor of the House is prepared to make occasional sacrifices for the servants.

They destroyed the seats and upholstery. It had to be gutted out and replaced because of the urine smell that couldn't be gotten rid of any other way. I wish I had known about these way back then. It could have saved me from a huge headache and an even larger expense.

Sadly, this video was shot prior to me finding your channel. Sometime in the last three weeks squirrels, most likely, got up under the hood of my new Jeep Gladiator. Consequently, my Jeep won’t start, lights flash and errors codes run off like Christmas decorations. They’re even eating my battery…I can see directly into the plates, now. Hood insulation is gone, the battery blanket is eaten, and the wiring harness that ties all my electronics to ground is trashed. So although it’s too late to prevent massive destruction…I need to get this ordered and ready for when my vehicle comes home repaired.

    Scotty,
We had a huge problem with rats chewing up wiring. We could not use most of the conventional means of getting rid of the rats. The government facility had a few bleeding hearts that would not tolerate protecting new cars, trucks, tractors, semis, etc. We did find out that the wires were lubricated with an environmentally friendly oil made with a peanut base so they could be pulled through looms and plastic tubing. So the rats liked peanuts!!! We had to go move the vehicles around so the nest builders were “confused” and would be discouraged from building nests. So when no one was looking more conventional means were used. Peanut smelling sticky traps did the trick the best.
