A decent air compressor is 110x2 LT! With welders and other high draw equipment it might be worthwhile to install a sub-panel in your garage for future circuit additions. This would also permit you to install an air conditioner between the studs through the wall at a height the neighbors won't complain. For extra stealth paint it to match the house.
Very cool news on the L5P! I sold my 2019 L5P in late 2021 but would be interested to see the Edge product in action. May have to convince my brother-in-law to tune his. 😂 Great episode as always! And as for air compressors and what you do filming in the same space, you simply cannot beat California Air Tools compressors. Ultra Quiet and great quality. Also I'd build a small box around the current compressor to reduce noise and add an auxiliary tank for extra capacity. Hey mate, some quick advice; first, get a band saw, there are some really good and cheap porta band style small systems with stands etc. Angle grinder consumables are expensive, but the worst part is that the grinding dust screws up everything else in your shop... The abrasive compounds will destroy wheel bearings, engines that are part through assembly, everything, including the power drill that you're shooting sparks onto at around the 10 minute mark, and the welding helmit next to it. If your shop is big enough or if you're planning on upsizing it's good to lay out for a "Clean" and a "dirty" area, where you separate everyhing else from grinding and welding, grinding is even bad for grinder electric motors ;) Second, there are some excellent channels on welding, Weldingtipsandtricks is my favourite, some of his older MIG guides are amazing and super useful... Look for vee bevel welding instructions, it's counter intuitive, but if you're welding up structure, then having a good vee bevel through around 80% of the material depth and a consistent gap is the only way to make this stuff work really well... Cut some test coupons and have a practice on stuff that doesn't matter, that way you're not in the hot seat for critical stuff without solid practice behind you ;) Anyway, I hope this doesn't sound critical because I love your work and I hope this helps ;)

I have an old central pneumatic from probably 10 years ago. It still runs with zero issues but even tho it's a 21 gallon tank with my die grinder it's out in less than a minute and then runs constantly and it's loud! I've been looking at the fortress units at harbor freight. They are quiet! Plus I'll convert my current air compressor into a tank only and feed the fortress into that tank, then have a 50+ gallon tank combined. On GM trucks, the throttle response is not there like in the situation you had described. And it is quicker pulling into traffic in a hurry at 70% throttle then giving it the rest. In my 04 1500 it is the same thing. It has something to do with the “torque management” I guess we can say
Thanks for asking about the air compressor, I’ll be following all the comments. Folks recommending 220 volts, we don’t need 220v for welding, most tig work is fine with 110, other than maybe aluminum. Hopefully we can both upgrade our air systems from this videos info. 👍
I'd like follow ups on this. Especially with no other supporting mods. Like how often it regenerates, and soot loading into the dpf with no additional air in or out.
it did a regen right before the tune was installed, and so far I am at 360 miles of mixed driving and is only at 60% soot load according to the banks iDash. i can provide a long term update in a while
Make sure your compressor takes oil and the best you can do on 110 is 5.5-6 cfm at 90 psi. Ir and sanborn both make decent ones. Hook the new one into the tank on your old one. I’d recommend 220 but I do sandblasting and that sucks air.

Air compressor... what's your budget. Quiet.. go Rotary or California air. In your case I would make a closet for the compressor. Add a inlet and outlet ( heat) vent. Send the noise to the sky attic might work.
I have an emmissions intact 2014 LML with an Edge Evo CTS 3. Honestly the tunes that came with the CTS 3 are unusable. The power gains are great, but at the price of constant regens. I'm talking like 20-25grams of soot in a 10 mile trip across town 70% of that being highway on the highest tune. Even on economy thr particulate filter loads up twice as fast as stock. I've gotten Pcodes showing too little time between regens. As a monitor I love it.
I’m sure you watched banks, how to blow up an lp5. That really is a sweet motor. I would say the most important steps in his whole process was the upgraded cam and fueling. Didn’t seem like the benefits of a custom turbocharger would out weigh the benefits. The rest was the shit. I would settle for 900hp
LT have you looked into the kryptonite inner and outer tie rod for that truck. Not trying to promote another channel on your channel but truckmaster sells them.
I absolutely love watching your videos. I also like the way that we’re getting to see the real you. I’m guess you are getting your wife involved by letting her film. @Cleetus McFarland needs to have you the Freedom Factory
Awesome videos man👍 so this is for anyone that build engines. I took apart my first engine (185k mile 6.0 ls) I don't have a shop so everything is in my basement under bags and towels for protection. Im currently cleaning everything because is was dirty and had gunk on it. But after cleaning carefully im still scared there might be dust and particles inside the block/heads. How do I make sure im not putting crap through my engine during first start?
Factory tunes are done with EPA regs a wide variety of environments and use conditions and the longevity of the vehicle in the warranty period in mind. Retuning to suit special circumstances like racing can kill the engine and transmission and void the warranty so processed with caution. Tuning for increased performance economy and even cleaner operation can be done especially if you live in a high altitude area or you’re constantly towing. Proper tuning for conditions outside the norm can vastly improve economy and vehicle longevity over a stock tune, but you’ve still trashed the warranty if they find out.
This is the proverbial cat/mouse in infosec, there will always be a vulnerability in software/code, it's just a matter of a motivated individual(s) spending time to find it.
Any recommendations for pure performance? I don't want anything loud. I like the stock sound but just want to upgrade my exhaust since I have the K&N 63 Series CAI. 2019 silverado 5.3 Thanks
Honestly besides the die grinder and airing up tires what else do you use that’s air powered? I’d consider just getting battery/electric tools and just keep the compressor you have for little things. You want to get into a bigger shop so why drop all the money on a bigger air compressor. And I like the one comment that mentioned using a band saw or porta band instead of a grinder for cutting, grinders are not the best tool for that job
how do you think the soot build up in the DPF will be with the new tune? i’m curious how tuning a non “weight reduced” L5P will handle the added fuel long term
@@LawrenceTolman do an update video if you don’t mind, like does the engine regen more and if you notice any +/- mpgs. i’m looking to get an L5P soon and this was one of the first things i was planning on doing till i decide to reduce some weight on it, if it’s actually needed
I'm running a comparable unit from Edge on a 2020 Ford 6.7L Emission compliant tuning. Same option to control various stuff from a phone app. ( TPMS, tire size, gear ratio, Bambi mode, high idle etc) 5 power levels. I have not noticed my DEF consumption increasing, but I did see my average regen miles drop to more frequent regens in the 3 months I've been testing the unit. And like you, I do like being able to adjust the pedal sensitivity.
I’ve heard that it’s not good to do these cause all it’s going to do in the end is force regens more often. Which will block up everything faster. The only true way is to delete everything off

Have abother 220 line ran. I have a #Eastwood scroll 30/60 compressor and it works well. Super quiet also
You Make Utah Proud
Id love a video of your ideas on that truck/engine. The look has grown on me, but I always lean towards the 06/07 classic duramax.
You can talk bad about your mig welds, but honestly looks like it will hold just fine.
You want a 2 stage oiled compressor. OR if you really want to do it right I would look at the scroll ? unit from eastwood
Try an Ingersollrand compressor they were amazing at my old sho and pretty quiet
Invest in putting in a 220 outlet and or like the one feller said a sub panel.
Could you convert to a rack and pinion steering, less weight.
Would you recommend this over the banks derringer? Ive got an l5p as well
Does this affect your warranty? That is the only concern I have with reflashing a vehicle under warranty.
Warranty voided for certain. But he is likely beyond the warranty would be my guess.
I wonder if this will work with the L8t engine
My 2000 chevy ls has horrible throttle response. The suspension matches. I call it the slushtruck.
Will it work on the emissions complaint trucks??
add a remote air tank for extra air capacity
This is the proverbial cat/mouse in infosec, there will always be a vulnerability in software/code, it's just a matter of a motivated individual(s) spending time to find it.
Hmmm so after unlocking I wonder if any tunes could be uploaded. Just for curiosity
thats beyond my skill level for sure!
On air compressors:
I have heard good things about the "California air" brand air compressors. Supposedly they are built extremely quiet.
Any recommendations for pure performance? I don't want anything loud. I like the stock sound but just want to upgrade my exhaust since I have the K&N 63 Series CAI.
2019 silverado 5.3
Thanks
In my opinion the 17-18 19 L5P with 6 spd and 3.73 will be next lbz. Hold it's value
agreed. plus, they are a great looking body style.
Please do for the 3.0 Duramax
Thanks
A grinder and paint, makes me the welder I ain't.
The transmissions that are in those trucks now was never designed by Allison. It was only licensed.
What does it do to your warranty??
You installing the tuner will it void warranty?
BelAire makes a 60gallon 120v compressor Model: 2061V
How is the (formerly) deviated septum doing?
Pretty good actually. I can breathe a little better, and it’s all healed up nicely so win-win.
@@LawrenceTolman how long has it been? It was a couple weeks even after I had the stents removed birdies I was really breathing free and easy.
Do you know if they have anything for the gas trucks?
Honestly besides the die grinder and airing up tires what else do you use that’s air powered? I’d consider just getting battery/electric tools and just keep the compressor you have for little things. You want to get into a bigger shop so why drop all the money on a bigger air compressor. And I like the one comment that mentioned using a band saw or porta band instead of a grinder for cutting, grinders are not the best tool for that job
how do you think the soot build up in the DPF will be with the new tune? i’m curious how tuning a non “weight reduced” L5P will handle the added fuel long term
thats a great question, and I am monitoring that now actually.
@@LawrenceTolman do an update video if you don’t mind, like does the engine regen more and if you notice any +/- mpgs. i’m looking to get an L5P soon and this was one of the first things i was planning on doing till i decide to reduce some weight on it, if it’s actually needed
@@LawrenceTolman also i wonder if your DEF consumption will change any
I'm running a comparable unit from Edge on a 2020 Ford 6.7L Emission compliant tuning.
@@jordanv5400 Soot accumulation and distance between regen's is extremely subject to driving style, usage, etc...
So you have a tuner on it now, Will you delete it next? Heard that really helps those diesels perform and increases efficiency a lot.
love the vid man! are you going to sleeve the inner tie rods or buy beefier ones?
gonna go with a much beefier one to go with my heim style outer
@@LawrenceTolman can’t wait to see it! i think first run when she’s finished…9.16
Put your air compressor outside on your fence line wherever your neighbors bedroom is. :) Just joking around, that would be devious.
I would definitely love one of those Dmax trucks. However it's not in the budget and I would never actually use it for what it's truly intended for.
what happened to the copo truck?
What is that big hole in the frame there for originally?
not sure. the motor mount rectangular tube passes through it on the pass side, but not on the drivers side.
Make sure you don’t take it inn for the recall that updates the Tcm & ecm
I’ve heard that it’s not good to do these cause all it’s going to do in the end is force regens more often. Which will block up everything faster. The only true way is to delete everything off
Hey I went to the edge website and what you listed is for the 17-19 trucks do you have it for the 2020 ? I can't seem to find it
I think its under the "Coming soon" status for the 2020+ trucks
Very nice
Banks parts inbound?
I'm surprised Hptuners Hadn't cracked them sooner.
Get this tunner now. Before the e-pa get ahold of this and shut it down.
