great vid man, do you think you can swap these on a 2002 auto awd rav4? convert it to manual or just use an auto? I would preffer to keep it auto for daily purposes but manual doesn't bother me at all
No, I use ether the ST215W Caldina GT-T Transmission Model E150F, or the ST204 Celica GT-Four gearbox model E154F, the Rav original gearbox model E250F is not well suited to this engines Higher RPM Ranges.
Not with the factory actuator, it uses vacuum for which dissapears into boost ever time you push the accelerator, you'd have to either scrap the actuator and manually using your hand activate and deactivate it, or install a vacuum tank and pump to replicate it. In all these videos im using a Caldina E150F or Celica E153F gearbox which doesn't have the c.Diff lock
I have a 2000 RAV4 automatic, it's tired and never had any power. I need to know if there are any performance engine swaps for an automatic or if I'm just going to have to abandon it all together. Not putting a large amount into a 22 yr old RAV4. I may end up just putting a Honda motor & tranny in it. Don't get me wrong, but I have a bad hip, I love my Rav. Toyota doesn't have much support other than replacement in kind, but with Honda you can cobble together different engines make huge power gains for $1000 or less ...hell I may even cut the damn front end off and put a junk yard LS in if I have to.
Honda motor? nah man. 3SGTE Auto is the ST246 Caldina. same gearbox as in a USDM Lexus RX350. go get one. Honda has no factory turbo, just get a CRV if thats your angle.
it's a fair bit of studying wiring diagrams from the 3S-FE and gen4 3S-GTE once you've figured that out, the Mechanical part is pretty straightforward.

Call a local Japanese engine Importer and see what they charge for the engine with ECU, also the engines are almost double what I used to pay for them now. Good luck!

Lexus RX350 auto trans is same as Caldina ST246, worth it? not sure. Manual is king.
