    Liquid ballast all day every day here in the Texas Hill Country. You would be in trouble driving around here without it. Lifting heavy loads leverages against that ballast weight and saves the front axle from undo punishment as well. Worth every penny!

    Rim Guard already made a difference for us. I was on some uneven ground and was lifting a hay bale to our pickup truck, when one tire started to lift up. I had 400 pounds behind but it wasn't enough, but if I hadn't of had Rim guard, I know it would have tipped over! I was able to get the hay bale loaded on level ground. However I have 540 pounds of suitcase weights coming in today (along with an Implement on tge same pallet) from GWT to add to my back Implement one we weld on angle iron and hang the weights.

    Oh man great demonstration!!
    As far as Rim Guard goes, per their website, there are no dealers in Arizona. The closest dealers are in California and Utah. So I purchased 96 gallons of RV Antifreeze from my local Walmart. I know most people use Window Washer Fluid, but it is toxic, weighs less than the RVA, and only good to -25 degrees. RVA is non toxic, heavier, good to -50 degrees, non-corrosive, and was the exact same price as WWF. Oh and btw, Bobcat told me using any wheel weights or tire ballast will void their warranty. That is why I purchased a Kioti, even though I had to drive 250 miles to get it and the Bobcat dealer is local...

    As always great video Courtney!!! The ballast in tires makes a world of difference most of the time. Wanted to have rim guard put in mine but wanted way to much money. So I did it myself with rv antifreeze not as much weight but made a big difference on my 1626 Mahindra. I've lifted 1840 pounds of logs 4 ft. Off ground with pallet forks without ballast on 3point with loaded tires but didn't go but about 50 ft to unload them. That summit tractor is sweet lookin love the color and the extras that come with it. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy what you do

    My local Deere dealer said if I wanted ballast in the tires, they'd use RimGuard. Well, actually, they said they'd have a close-by RimGuard dealer do the work. But I had to bring it up, they never mentioned tire ballast at all. It's great that Summit does it at the factory - they're actually selling you something that you can put to full, *safe* use the first day!

    The other good thing with liquid ballast (and wheel weights) is it's un-sprung weight. It doesn't effect your axle weight capacity. It will effect your 0 to 12 mph time tho, so no drag racing your neighbor.
    Up here in the PNW I can't use the extra weight in the winter (Oct - May?) because of the mud and clay at least on my property. I picked up a new LS MT-235HE for a retirement present in Feb and couldn't use it on most of my property as it would get stuck with those pos R-4 tires it came with (and the added extra #1000lbs of the tractor probably didn't help). Would have had to wait months to get the R1's ordered. I dropped a couple dozen tree's over the last year and I had to use my old '97 JD-770 to move most of my branch's and lighter logs to my fire pit in the middle of my swamp. Working on drainage this year.

    When you where doing the weight test I noticed the bucket was curled pretty much all the way to the pivot point that plays a huge roll in how much weight you can lift compared to leaving the bucket flat all the way to max lift height

    • @freecycling6687
      @freecycling6687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, especially in the test to see what you can pull off a truck deck. If those actually *were* pallet forks they'd have to be flat to the deck, not curled way back!

    While not shipped from the factory, my dealer adds liquid ballast on all of the loader equipped tractors they sell.
    I'm not sure how much liquid ballast would help in the front tires. As you demonstrated, a tractor would be well on its way to tipping over before the front wheels would start to lift.

    I have a 1025R. I could not get wheel spacers because of the MMM. I had Rimguard added as well as 70 lb wheel weights and it makes a significant difference. I can imagine that with larger tires it would have even more impact. It's not hype.

    • @projectswithjw

      You can get 1.5" spacers on the rear with a mower deck.

    • @YMF1891
      @YMF1891 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@projectswithjw It depends on model year and what size mower deck. I have a 2015 with 54" deck. I have measured it more than once. Anything wider than 1/2" and the rear tire would interfere with the bracket for the adjustable guide wheels. Newer models don't seem to have the same problem so they likely moved the location of the bracket for the guide wheels.

      If you're interested in finding how much a different tire size requires, visit www.rimguardsolutions.com/beet-juice-is-better/tire-fill-tools/

    • @freecycling6687

      I've just finished getting RimGuard installed by a local dealer in a new tractor, so I've been all over their website for a while now. They have a thing they call a "Fill Tool" that tells you for a given tire how many gallons it takes and the weight. Summit says the TX25 comes with Goodyear R14T 12-16.5 rear tires (www.summittractors.com/pdf/specs-tx25h.pdf). And the RG fill tool says those tires take 16 gallons, with a weight of 175 lbs. (www.rimguardsolutions.com/tire-fill-tools/) So the two tires would add 350 pounds total.

      The sunshade really helps even in the cool Northwest.
      Your tractor, because of the center pivot on the front axle, acts pretty much like a 3 wheel vehicle. You need weight on the two back wheels to keep them anchored to the ground or your tractor will act like that 3 wheel vehicle in the Mr. Bean series, especially if you have weight on your loader and have your loader high. Liquid in tire ballast like RimGuard is a good start, but an implement, ballast box or the suitcase weight bracket Courtney sells are a good idea for loader work.

Have had to repair front tires on my little JD 180E lawn tractor twice so far. I worry about puncturing and having a huge rim guard mess. Valid concern? It would be up to the RimGuard dealer you use if they wanted to remove any existing ballast. The reason I know this is because I almost bought a tractor from a dealer who pre-filled the tires with magnesium chloride, even though I had requested RimGuard. I had arranged with a RimGuard dealer to go to the dealer's shop, remove the existing stuff, wash out the rims and tires, then fill with RimGuard. But the dealer decided they didn't want to do it. I like your attempt at capability comparison but for the "truck unloading test" you need to start at 37 inches and go UP 1 inch, then drive back 4 feet - failure to lift that 1 inch means you might drag... and when the load comes off the truck you tip.... so the test requires lifting 1 inch then backing up the width of the pallet. Still, nice demo and you do get your point across. :)

    I had Rim Guard put in the tires on my Kubota BX tractor when I purchased it brand-new in 2016. I had to replace both rear tires this year, 5 years later, because the Rim Guard had degraded the side walls of the tires. The side walls had started to split and seep. Is there something specific with Kubota BX tires or is this a common known issue with all sub-compact tires?

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So tempted to talk some trash about the Kubota, but I hold my tongue, haha!
      Hmm, now that is a strange one. Seems like a one-off type of situation. I've never heard of that occurring with RimGuard, beet juice, TL-90, or any other product. I'm sure the tires are long gone, but that's the kind of thing that would be hard to pinpoint without some further analysis. I've had many used Kubota tractors pass through my shop with RimGuard stickers on them. None had new tires. This isn't a known problem with the product nor any other liquid ballast (yes, chloride will ruin the wheels). I'm guessing more to the story that may never be known. All that said, RimGuard and pretty much every quality liquid ballast dealer will recommend changing out rubber valve stems for steel.

    • @johnsnyder751
      @johnsnyder751 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@freecycling6687 I did not contact RimGuard. I figured the tires were 5 years old and it was likely more a manufacturing issue with the tire than an issue with the RimGuard. I didn't think it was worth my time.

    • @johnsnyder751
      @johnsnyder751 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RimGuardBallast Thank you for responding. I can't truly say it was RimGuard that caused the issue, however, this is what I was told by C.H. Waltz bloomsburg, PA location, which is my local kubota dealer. It is possible that the information I was given was not accurate and it was actually an issue with the tire manufacturer that Kubota was using in 2016. I was told by the service manager that the dealership is now filling the BX tires with windshield wiper fluid to avoid the issues with RimGuard. I would be happy to vouch for the information I was given verbally by the dealer if RimGuard wants to pursue a discussion with the dealership about providing false claims about the product, beyond that, I do not know if this is worth pursuing? I was not looking for reimbursement, I just wanted to know, for my own knowledge, if the information I was given by the deal was accurate for my own knowledge.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I take a key or screwdriver and gently poke the valve (careful as contents are under a bit of pressure). Sometimes it's easy to figure out, other times not. A good test to at least know if it'll free or not is to collect a small sample and put in your freezer overnight. This will at least give you an idea of it its water or too much water. Odor can help too. Water, windshield washer fluid, calcium chloride, RimGuard, and TL90 are some common choices used for liquid ballast.

    I agree with you tire ballast works we see that in video. Is there any downside? Does it rust rim or eat through the rubber? I just bought a new 1025r and am trying to figure if add ballast or just go with wheel weights. As you probably guessed I am one of those new tractor guys you make your videos for. I do go back and look at older ones on the 1025R to see all you do with it and get ideas of what I want, definitely a snow pusher, tried ordering some things from your affiliates but they are always sold out. Thanks for the informative videos!

    • @RimGuardBallast
      @RimGuardBallast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good news, Larry, Rim Guard is non corrosive and animal food grade safe so it protects your tires and wheels!
      Be sure that you have a metal valve stem rather than rubber before installing. Any form of liquid ballast will compromise the adhesion of the rubber valve stem to wheel and you can experience a blowout.

    ballast has nothing to do with keeping the back wheels off the ground and everything to do with transferring load from the front axle to the back axle. all those CUTs with worn front axles at 250 hours are because they put a rake on the back and because the wheels didn't come up too often they figured it was fine. you should hang the lifting capacity of the loader off the back of the tractor to ensure double the load of the loader isn't applied to the front axle. if you dont understand what i mean by this, at 11:36 when you put your foot on the bucket and the back wheel came up, tell me how much weight was on the front axle ? the whole weight of the tractor plus the load. rimguard and wheel weights do not serve the same purpose as ballast. if you lift heavy on the loader, ballast the tractor according to the manufacturers specs, not only is it safer, it's correct for your axle

      @@GoodWorksTractors not sure what you are saying here, about what would my mind be changed? physics? axle ratings? weight transfer? ballast levers weight from the front axle to the back axle and if you don't understand the concept, and you're calling rim guard loader ballast, you are the one who needs to change, because you are simply incorrect, if you are selling a product, your customers deserve correct info and that requires you to be correct to start with. i'm critiquing your presentation here not because the tractor in question is bad, but what you are promoting (the goal being keeping the back wheels on the ground) is bad for the longevity of axles and totally the wrong way to consider what is happening when you hang a load 3 feet ahead of the front axle.

    • @Idontwantagoogleyoutube

      to further clarify, i suggest everyone add rimguard to their wheels, i am not advocating against that. it's a fantastic traction aid, adds weight to the contact patch with little shearing force on the drive motors and is an all around positive to the tractor experience. i use it in both of my tractors. it is not, however, ballast against loader weight, unless you put a barrel of it on a carry all on the 3 point.

      @@GoodWorksTractors No, as specified in the LX-85 loader operator's manual, the proper way to ballast the tractor for any loader operation is a 3 point counterweight of 551 - 661lbs. That's Summit's specification, in Summit's manual, for Summit's product. Rimguard is a selling point for the tractor, but it isn't loader ballast, and the engineers who spec the tractor for loader operation know that already, and put the spec in the manual. I believe they trust you to communicate that spec to your customer for safe operation, but if you don't, they're going to have questions for you once they buy your tractor and then actually read the manuals.

  • @zzvyb6
    @zzvyb6 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the loader is plowing snow in float control mode, the loader weight makes no contribution to traction. The RimGuard only loads the tire, not the axle. In the front, some minor extra steering forces are felt, but that's it.

    I've got a JD1025R with the backhoe. I like the QA system but it seems like a hydraulic weakling !
    At full throttle, it won't lift 10 - 80# bags (800#) of concrete stacked in two rows on the heel end of the forks!
    At 64 and overweight with a heart condition, it's a strain for an old man to off load 400# by hand!
