    I never sanded my tiles before painting or any primer. They came out stunning .

      I am beginning the job and having a lot of trouble using a sander. It keeps flying off my equipment and it doesn’t seem to be taking anything off the tile. So I was hoping to find an answer that made the sanding unnecessary. Thanks.

    well after painting it how do you clean it???? does it wipe/peel off when scrubbed? and how do you deal with molds and mildew after it is painted??? will molds and mildew stick more with the painted added in??? lookin for this option for my bath but am worried it'll be more tedious to clean if it got icky dirty.

    What grit of sandpaper should you use? I've tried 40, 80, 120 and my tile still has sheen. It's a bit of a textured tile. I figures using a very low grit would take the sheen right off but even with an electric sander , the sheen has barely scratched.

      EXACTLY! The same problem I am having. Going broke on buying packages of circular sandpaper.

      @@pamgrimm8850 I ended up speaking to someone at the hardware store and they told me just clean it and use acetone to clean the tile well. Let it dry. Then paint. It's been a few months now since I painted and the tile has been perfect

      @@fadingstarlight all done and it seems to be holding up just fine after a few showers. I ended up using a few coats of KILZ undercoat, all total six coats of paint, and I think it’s very well protected from moisture.

      I know this is late but for anyone else wondering 120 grit or lower should work. It will look like you didnt even sand so keep track of the areas you did and do them well. And yes your tile will still have a sheen on it and look exactly like before you sanded. What you dont see are micro crevices that are left behind allowing the primer to stick better than on a non sanded surface. You have to ensure to wipe the tiny dust left behind that you cant see with a tack cloth and reclean and dry the tile. The key is a great bonding primer, I used STIX. Good luck

      I read that you use toilet bowl cleaner to etch. I’m about to do that !

    Grout repair is most dissficult for me, if grout is damaged and lines are very thin, what do you suggest?

      @wwfera00 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% silicone caulk. Never grout the corners. Always waterproof silicone.

    Save your time and skip the video and follow this;
    Dont wipe tiles, then sand.
    This is the equivelant of wiping your arse and then having a shit.
    Sand with heavy grit and spray water often from a spray bottle: controls dust. Wear a good mask. Wet sanding is a must, dry sand will just not do the job.
    Sheen should be dull; now sand with higher grit to smooth it out; same way as before.
    Now use a primer; and coat it up until its a uniform finish. Then topcoat once. If you topcoat twice your back at square 1 and you may aswell be painting straight onto tile again.
    Pro tip;
    Everyone you know whom has painted their tiles doesnt realise what a terrible job they have done; its slowly dying. Karen the housewife and John the tech guy have paint sat on tiles and it hasnt adhered. Do yourself a favor and dont even paint your tiles; and tell them how bad a job they have done to theirs and essentially caused massive problems down the line.

    There is not, never has been, or ever will be ANY way to paint bathtubs or tile. The ONLY finish that will stand up to regular cleaning is the SUPER HARD BAKED ON finish that ONLY the factory can deliver. Don't believe me? By all means try it for yourself.
