- Kvalitná jazzová a soulová hudba prilákala v piatok večer (11. 4. 2014) do Kasární/Kulturparku zhruba päťstovku divákov na podujatie s názvom One Day Jazz. Na pódiu sa vystriedali prešovskí Inside Group, projekt Part One s frontmanom Eugenom Vizvárym. Večer patril americkej bubeníckej hviezde Chrisovi Davovi a jeho kapelke Drum Hedz. Kvarteto Isaiaha Sharkleya na gitare, Keyona Harolda na saxofóne, Nicholusa McNacka na basgitare a už spomínaného Chrisa Dava na bicích predviedlo košickému publiku, ako sa hrá pravý a nefalšovaný americký černošský jazz. Po vyše hodine muzikantskej kvality si publikum samozrejme vyžiadalo aj prídavky, kde sa muzikanti v rámci improvizácií zahrali aj s motívmi viacerých hitov hviezd súčasnej americkej hudobnej scény.

Chris plays with such crazy time keeping grooving capability that I can't even comprehend. Drum sound is captured pretty ok here, but the mix is not too good with the whole band. I'm liking the continuous arrangement of their music and the dynamical range/control is immensly tight from chris.

The song at 40:15 sounds like a big city to me.... a constant unrelenting groove going on no matter what you do with a lot personal songs going on in the middle of everything. Like if you took an over head camera to Times Square and saw the giant crowds but then started following random people through parts of their day just to find out they are both equally part of and separate from it all....

haha I totally feel you man, I'm a drummer and rarely use drum transcriptions. I usually learn by ear but only for drums.
I'll try and tackle it tomorrow and see what happens.
Cool man. yeah it might be worth while to transcribe it after you've learnt it by ear and internalised it, so that you can come back to it months or years from now and use it as a tool to practice your reading or even just to analyse whats going on theoretically. You can get a lot of mileage out of a transcription that way.

It just annoys me that the guitarist wants to hog the show. Let him do a solo gig somewhere. He plays some beautiful stuff, like Larry Coryell. Meanwhile these other dudes can blast away on a Miles composition. And bye the way, Chris is a genius! The Hendrix tune is a nice twist.

I way more liked the sound of Sharkey.. Such an inner metronome .. I mean, Dave us obviously genius in all aspects around the drums, but Im not the biggest fan of him as a member of band.. Forgive me for saying this Daves "hardcore" fanbase, but from my point of view, he plays a bit too self centered.. And I guess its all good, because, he' s the star there, but still that doesnt change the fact that in my opinion he could be more into "The Drum Hedz" and less into "The Dave"..

This is his band, so he can play how he wants. Check out D'Angelo live at North Sea Jazz videos to see Chris Dave "as a member of band" - perfect balance of everything for that gig IMO

+Dev B I will never get to his level because he is a genius, and I will never be anything but pretty good. That doesn't mean I can't suggest that his current approach isn't very musical. Look at the video of a much younger Dave playing with Kenny Garrett. Amazing stuff.
