Just snagged this drill in a kit dck276e2 for $229. Included the dcd778 drill, the dcf840 impact driver, bag, two powerstack batteries and a 4amp charger. Got the last one at my local lowes. That 796 is an absolute beast.
Dang, Joe! It looks like you like to collect a bunch of DeWalt and other brands of drill drivers, much the way that I used to collect Hot Wheels in my youth, (some 50 years, or so, ago)! Enjoying your videos, though! Thanks, dude!
The XR kit, the DCD796 is by far the best combo kit to buy. I’ve been in business now for 8 years using impact drivers and hammer drills daily, I started with atomic and had an old set of makita, maybe 2 years ago I put my atomics on the trailer shelf as backup and started the Xr’s. They’re so far ahead in everyday use it’s not even funny, so strong. Batteries last so much longer in the XR. Every dewalt tool I buy now has to be XR. My stepdad still has two sets of atomic and hasn’t upgraded but anytime we meet up on a job and help each other he uses mine and can tell a big difference.
Just picked up the dcd778 for 100$ at a pawn shop brand new not opened! It was kind of on the spot hope I did good! I needed a new hammer drill. But kind of wish I would’ve got the xr
Xr is the way to go with every dewalt tool. I daily use them commercially and I only drive screws with my impact and use my hammer drill exclusively for drilling holes. Some guys prefer hammer drills to drive screws but it’s not the way to me, it’ll brake your wrist lol not really but they’re just best for holes.
That wood he was using was pretty dry. But I'm thinking the bit needs to be sharpened. Usually a self feed bit like that should pull itself right through. But judging by the tiny saw dust being extracted from the hole, the bit wasn't biting into the wood. Usually you should get big chips coming out of the hole when you have a new undamaged bit in the drill. Personally, I'll stick with my DeWalt 996 or DeWalt FVA 999 if I need to drill big holes. Yeah, those drills are bigger and heavier but there won't be any struggling getting them holes drilled. If I want to use a powerful compact drill, I'll break out my Milwaukee Fuel Hammer Drill. For its size, that thing is a beast and can't be beat. But if I need shear power, my 996 with a 5 ah or 999 with a 6 or 9 FVA battery will be my tool of choice until some larger power stack batteries become available.
I’ll be taking a closer look and sharpen if needed or just grab a diablo next time. My ears are still bleeding. 796 pushed it straight through with little issues I might have just pushed the little ones a bit much.
I personally dont see how any of them survived it and yourself, be careful with those drills. When we use them regularly on hotel jobs that are wood framed everyone looks for the 999 with the handle , the handle saves the body pains . When I use those type bits and they dig 3 or more inches in , you best have the death grip on her because she will twist your body in knots when it suddenly locks up. I think the wood being dry like ole buddy said and the bit being burnt on the tip had you fighting both issues and chipping through the wood . The spyder brand bits are good bits . We use those and the deoblo type and both are good and last . Be careful !
I have the 708 Atomic ie the non hammer version ,it drives big auger bits easily cross grain ,when you end drill you have to clear the tip more often .I love the Atomic for it's low weight especially when drilling decks or hanging doors all day that's why I bought it ,if I want brute power I'll grab a 996 .
@Joe the tool guy. Hey Joe. Are you okay? I know we all have our bad mornings. And I hope your wrist is okay @13:58. Thanks for the quick Dewalt hammer drill tests including the new Powerstack battery. Keeping you and your family in my daily prayers.
Damn Joe you already had me dead laughing in the first minute🤣that shit was hilarious! Joe’s the only guy I know that can fly his brand new tools with no remorse😂 That drill spoon combo is pure genius! Hope you and the fam are doing great😎🤙🏻
i think you should use power stack on atomic and then compare.its nonsence to use low power battery when you have a power full battery to use in your day to day life.
This was hard to watch for 4 reasons. I'm a PC fanatic and quickly becoming addicted to tools too, and love the tests between DeWalt drills! But if it was mine, #1) I don't believe in tearing up boxes that great, new hardware comes in. I cringed when you did that. How could you?! I keep the boxes, manuals, warranties, any bags or cases, wrenches, and receipts. If I have a problem w/ it, it's easier returning it when the box is not mutilated. If it breaks in 2 years, I'll have the paperwork to check to see if the warranty period is still valid. And it's easier to sell when you have everything that it came w/ originally too. - And I find the box is often a quick reference of the specs that I like to look at the first few days after I buy it, when I'm unsure about a feature it may or may not have.#2) I gasped when you threw the box down, hitting the 2 drills, sending them crashing down to the floor - that could have broken them! (And your test proves 1 of them is even better in some ways than your new one!) #3) You also threw a perfectly good, new charger on the floor! You could sell that on Craigslist #4) The awful grinding sound I thought I heard from 1 drill's gearbox when you were drilling a foot into that wood - I thought that killed it for sure. But no, you just switched gears and kept going. And smoke and screeching didn't stop you either. Were you trying to kill one of the older drills as a reason to justify your new purchase? < Yep. New technology is nice to have, but I am still a little nervous about the safety and longevity of those Powerstack batteries.
That intro and unboxing giving off some real OG AvE vibes! I was waiting for you to yell "TIME!!"😂 Skookum as frig!
😆 yeah ave is the OG
I have the non-hammer equivalent of the 796, the 791, and it's become my daily driver project drill. (Don't tell Makita)
Those are absolute beasts. So under rated.
The Makita Gnome is gonna tickle you in your sleep for that! 🥸🙄😈

After borrowing a 996 I bought the 796 and love it.. it's a beast and so much lighter than the 996 thank you sir for your videos keep it up
I love that 796 so much!
Can't wait for the new DCD805 Hammer Drill. Check out VCGs channel for a demo.
Have you had any issues with the atomic? Tools tested channel tested 3 atomics and they all broke
Great video showing the differences between the drills. The Dewalt lineup is too confusing but this video makes it easier.
Off Topic ; Obviously your big on tools ,What do you think about Pocket Knives ??? Do you have any Good ones ????
Love pocket knives, maybe I'll do a feature on my top 5 must have hand tools or something like that.
@@Joethetoolguy Happy to hear that , Ive been collecting Knives for a long time , I have a few nice Benchmades , Spyderco's , ZT's and Cold Steel's...
Thanks for the video & a real world test of pushing the drills to the limits.
Thanks TN!
I would love to see how the powerstack compares to a m18 ho3.0 on a milwaukee drill/impact
Coming up!

That's the way to do it bro! Great 796 is a beast one of the best hammer drills from DeWalt.
Agreed cant wait for the new 800/805

Dcd 778 in uk coming with metal chuck same as 796
but 778 gear housings are plastic unlike 796
no idea what machine your using. might be handy to tell. which one win.
Damn Joe, we drink the same coffee😎🛠️😎🛠️😎
Nothing like a hot cup of tongue searing death wish 😆
Do you get paid for been daft
I believe Lowe's has the powerstack bundled with the 840. Another option if someone doesn't want the hammer drill.
That’s what I would choose, the 840 is my fav impact so far.
Just picked up the dcd778 for 100$ at a pawn shop brand new not opened! It was kind of on the spot hope I did good! I needed a new hammer drill. But kind of wish I would’ve got the xr
PowerStack reminds of my youth. Lol
😂
omfg I've done that before with a spatula to mix cake batter hahaha fantastic!
Think I'll stick to my Flexvolt

The 791/796 is my fav drill, period. Dewalt is releasing an update soon (DCD800/805 I think), should be good.
Thanks for the review.
Im stoked for that!
I'm getting that new Hammer Drill the DCD805 when it comes out.
I already took the 778 back to the store.

Warranty?
Limited lifetime warranty?
The intro is like AvE ASMR 😂😂😂
😂 don’t worry I’ll turn it up gradually.
Apparently that self feed bit is broke, not broke but it isnt pulling the bit through the lumber , the screw head is probably broken off.
Maybe try cross drilling the lumber , the going with the grain prolly isnt letting the self feed work properly ???
