I can't imagine how the NX is inferior in every way. That is a bold claim. For starters the NX has better fuel economy than an RX which was better than the Mazda here so it's not interior for fuel economy. I just can't imagine it's inferior in every way. Plus Lexus reliability. @@markanderson3618

i think the size comparism in this video is fairly balanced, the direct size competitor of the nx is the cx5.. the cx60 is a bit taller and longer than the nx..the cx70/90 is 20cm longer than the RX..
I used to love Mazdas and have owned a few but they aren’t going down the right path for me anymore. I’m not a fan of their exterior looks but do love their interiors. The RX is a better looking vehicle in my opinion and for me to say a Lexus is better looking is really saying something because Lexus isn’t known for good looks.
The latest generation RX is a good looking car. Comparing to the last generation it's a big improvement. Its proportions are right. It doesn't have that ugly front overhang and generally the car is planted properly on the road.
The lines are blurry, but the RX and CX-60 are correctly considered rivals. The NX is considerably smaller (4660mm long vs 4740mm for the Mazda) and doesn’t really have a direct rival in the Mazda stable. As for the CX-70, that’s really more of a rival - we think - to the more athletic cars in the class like the X3 and F-Pace. But there isn’t much in it.
@@chasingcars dimensions CX-60 4740 NX 4660 Ok 80mm difference RX 4890 Difference with cx-60 150 mm Agree that each manufacturer has own class limits but RX(4890) is a rival for X5 (4922), XC-90(4953), CX-70(90)(5100) And NX(4660) is a rival for X3(4706), XC-60(4688), CX-60(4740) So… X3 could not be a rival to cx-70 if cx-70 is bigger than x5 :) Anyway thanks for detailed updates related to Mazda fixes progress, this is something really rear on TH-cam, really nice work!
@@chasingcarsCX-60 is closer to the NX in size than the RX, especially in terms of the interior space. Most of the extra length of the CX-60 when compared to the NX is due to the engine being longitudinally mounted, requiring more length for the same interior space.
I’m not really agreeing. Lexus deliberately sizes their SUVs to sit between the traditional German classes, so it’s always a judgment call (and I’ve made mine). NX feels and drives like the smaller, narrower vehicle it is - not like a BMW X3 (or a Mazda CX-60). Even so, I’d say the NX would have carried the win all the same as it’s ultimately similar to the RX in basic handling characteristics. Second, to suggest the CX-70 is somehow the direct rival to RX when it’s 220mm longer makes less sense than criticising the suggestion the CX-60 is the wrong competitor at a 150mm length difference. The fact is simple: Lexus doesn’t use traditional sizing. We have to work around that.
@@chasingcars regarding RX and cx-70, yep, hard to compare them as they are on polar size approaches. The CX-30’s ride isn’t as bad as the CX-60, but the -30 is indeed fairly stiff. Perhaps your car is on 16” wheels. If it’s on the 18s, well, it’s fairly stiff
Just cause they're both from Japan doesn't put them in the same league. One is a luxury SUV. The other is a standard SUV. Why not compare the Mazda to a BMW, or an Audi too?
One question about the warranty of Lexus in Australia.. why does the Lexus not get the 10 year warranty that we do here in the UK ..and the 15 year warranty on the hybrid battery?
Nice review, Tom, as always. Your analysis is spot on. Driven both cars and I can say this the Lexus comes out on top everytime. I was a bit disappointed with road handling of the Mazda and the gear box needs a bit of work too. Road noise cancellation is superb on the Lexus. However, personally, the interior layouts on the Mazda premium range, Takumi, with light interiors is a bit more appealing with a simplistic layout. Lexus, we miss our beige interiors. Lastly, once you drive and own a Lexus, other cars just seem to fall short. Trust me, whenever you drive a Lexus it always manages to put a smile on the face.
I wish that Mazda would have sold the cx60 model instead of the cx70 was really hoping buy one this year so I guess I’ll keep my cx5 until then I guess 😅
It is a little longer and a little wider, yes, which explains part of the extra rear seat and boot room (as well as its shorter engine compartment). Still, these two are reasonable substitutes.
The intriguing question is as you said how did Mazda let this onto the market because it begs the question what else have they let through that could take longer to show up and does not appear on a test drive or even over several months. I know Car Care Nut has big concerns about the design of the inline six which will require removal of the entire engine to fix a number of problems which don’t normally require that e.g. with the timing chain being at the rear of the engine you need to take the engine out to get to it ( NB his youtube is referring to the new cx-90 and I am assuming it is the same inline six but his vid is very detailed and interesting)
Please don't compare mazda & lexus... They are completely at different levels, one is luxury and another is normal suv something like the distance of Lexus is the sky and mazda the earth, it's incomparable
I think the CX60 looks more masculine! As for handling, who cares about a little differences in handling and stiff suspension, some people actually like it!!

I think the Lexus is definitely worth the extra cash 💰. They have an established brand recognition. While Mazda does a decent job it just isn’t quite there just yet. The Lexus gets my vote.
Given nobody’s road tested the CX-70 I think it’s a little early to make the call that it’s the ‘proper’ rival, and there is no avoiding that the 70 is quite a bit bigger than the RX. Lexus SUV sizes are deliberate in-betweeners: the CX-60 is 150mm shorter than RX but the CX-70 is 220mm longer than RX…
The proper comparison is lexus nx vs cx 60. This is like comparing audi q5 vs bmw x5, it's just not right. World's first comparison between different categories.
It’s absolutely nothing like comparing the Q5 and X5, actually. The NX is not the same segment as the CX-60. It’s half a segment shorter and narrower, while the RX is half a segment longer and wider. Lexus does this deliberately. Their sizes do not line up with the Germans. To suggest they do is utterly misleading.
Really now? You think nx is half a segment shorter than cx60, for 8cm differnence? Yet you a l s o think, rx is half a segment larger than the cx60, for 18cm difference? Math is not you're strong point i see.

Lexus RX is very expensive. Consumers still buy them though. I am surprised that the waiting time. So I don’t know. Maybe people should start looking at alternatives.
I believe the comparison is off. It should be the CX-60 with the NX as the same category. In some comments below people argued that the CX-60 is wider than the NX and therefore the comparison with the RX, but..., with that standard we couldn't criticize interior size with the RX being "more spacious" because the RX was meant to be be bigger, in a bigger category. We have to remember the CX-60 is somewhat a newer, revised, updated version of a CX-5, which without a doubt is a spectacular car.
@@Seriously140 a CX-60 is the modernized 7 year old and ongoing design of the CX-5. Is intended to be in that category. Mazda might try to sell it as an upscale design in their view to go more premium, and the fact that the CX-5 sells so well for them, at least in the USA, that it still makes sense to keep it, but still, is that same category. Sizes of cars have been increasing a little through out last years, every brand has done that, so saying it’s a bit bigger that the CX-5 doesn’t mean is not the same category. Most brands have size up a bit in their latest model years. Most people understand this and know the CX-60 is intended to compete in the same category of the NX, NOT the RX, that would be the CX-80 in that case.
In this case, Toyota Group is actually still the profit, because Lexus is owned by Toyota, while Toyota Group is also one of the shareholders in Mazda, so if Lexus and Mazda sell well then Toyota Group still sells well, but if the opposite is the case, namely Lexus is not selling well or Mazda is not selling well then Toyota also loses

Hang on you are comparing a first gen car to one that is old and nearly $28K more than the Mazda. Every first gen modle has issues, yes I dont understand Mazdas final engineering release on this one. As far as safety features Mazda always scores 5 stars and does with the CX-60, Mazda can't win if lane departure was more agressive you would complain about this.
I thought it would make more sense to compare the CX-60 to the NX, and that’s what I actually did and decided to go with the NX350 F. I test drove the CX-60 Azami when it 1st released and the build quality feel really good, however like it mentioned in the video, the ride quality just doesn’t feel like what a $80k+ car should be. And I spoke to one of the mate did the test drive on the same day who also paid deposit and he wanted his money back 😂
You're right, the NX and this are direct rivals. Not sure why this channel considers the RX to be so, when it's quite a bit bigger and much more expensive 😅
@@campbellreither550 indeed and the price point matches as well. I guess they just happen to have the RX as long term review and would have more thoughts on it and plus the RX and NX are quite similar same platform same power train.
Yep, seen road tests here in the UK between the CX 60 and NX. Not the more expensive RX
What if Mazda upgraded the refinment of the CX60 ? Would it be the winner ?
If the ride and transmission issues were fully resolved it would be in much closer contention.
@@chasingcars wow and with Mazada at $27,500 cheaper. very interesting!!
@@chasingcars actually as noted by @markandersson the CX-90 would level that $27,500 price difference. how about a new comparison much-up with the CX-90 please?
Amazing comparison video! I wonder if Lexus RX non hybrid version has spare wheel?
Yes, it has a full spare wheel.
This is not right comparison at all, he should done it between CX60 vs NX 250/350H, while RX 350H VS latest CX90 primary their pricing and size are similar will be much more fair comparison in my opinion.
i think the size comparism in this video is fairly balanced, the direct size competitor of the nx is the cx5.. the cx60 is a bit taller and longer than the nx..the cx70/90 is 20cm longer than the RX..
Front of the new Rx is one of the ugliest ive seen, its the reason
Why i havent considered an RX yet..
Direct rivals will be
Lexus RX - Mazda cx-70(90)
Lexus NX - Mazda cx-60
You are comparing different classes
The lines are blurry, but the RX and CX-60 are correctly considered rivals. The NX is considerably smaller (4660mm long vs 4740mm for the Mazda) and doesn’t really have a direct rival in the Mazda stable. As for the CX-70, that’s really more of a rival - we think - to the more athletic cars in the class like the X3 and F-Pace. But there isn’t much in it.
@@chasingcars dimensions
CX-60 4740
NX 4660
Ok 80mm difference
RX 4890
Difference with cx-60 150 mm
Agree that each manufacturer has own class limits but RX(4890) is a rival for X5 (4922), XC-90(4953), CX-70(90)(5100)
And NX(4660) is a rival for X3(4706), XC-60(4688), CX-60(4740)
So… X3 could not be a rival to cx-70 if cx-70 is bigger than x5 :)
Anyway thanks for detailed updates related to Mazda fixes progress, this is something really rear on TH-cam, really nice work!
Regarding to which Lexus model compare cx-60 - to the one with 80mm difference or 150mm difference - got your opinion. Cannot say that fully agree with it, but was interesting to get a feedback, so thanks for that
The CX-60 and RX is not really competing in the same class I guess, the RX closer to the likes of BMW X5, and this is reflected in the price. Might be a better fight for Mazda by CX-90 instead.
I like the modern look of Lexus but that Mazda in crystal blue looks BOSS
Great review, really detailed and well thought out. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
@@chasingcars also, to who ever in the CC office is replying to all the haters and those who feel they have to point out errors where they don't exist- I love the sass, direct and to the point. Keep it up!
Love your videos, buuuuut isn’t the mazda closer to the Lexus NX? The LX is a water bigger than both
The NX is shorter and narrower than the CX-60. The RX is longer than the CX-60. Lexus deliberately sizes its SUVs between the German rivals. Personally, I believe the RX is the correct rival here.
yes, it's kinda not fair, while the NX, RX, and CX-60 are basically the same height, and yes the CX-60 is closet to the width of the RX than the NX(it's still very similar in width between the 3), length wise it's completely different, RX is a much more significant 150mm longer than CX-60, while the CX-60 and the NX is less than 100mm apart (80mm to be precise) riding on a more space effective FWD platform, which put it on the same class on anyway you look it, how every other reviewers look it as well, i think either he just want the Lexus to win, or its the easiest one to get(since the RX is their long term-er
and even if they want the Lexus to win, according to his word the RX & CX-60 are comparable luxury wise, which we can safely say the CX-60 is noticeably more luxurious than the NX
The RX is a luxury car, the Mazda isn’t. Having said that, for Mazda to even compete with Lexus is impressive. A closer match from the Toyota family for the CX60 is probably something like a Venza or possibly the new Crown Signia.
Your words will be right if mazda still a normal brand , but today mazda is a luxury brand
How are you doing this? I was just considering both. Thank you .
I have been trying to chose a new car for a year now haha, I really love Lexus NX350h, currently I own a mazda6 2018 2.0 petrol, and recently I have visited my mazda store and took an upclose look on CX-60 - interrior is honestly amazing, I think mazda is getting very close to the premium standarts, however I never took it for a test drive yet, so yes currently I am deciding between a cx-60 and a NX350h, never a german :) the only downside from lexus for me is the absnse of physical buttons to control the climate system - I think it is frustrating when you have to do it on a screen
I own a petrol cx60 and can only state that this is one of the best Mazda’s ever. Would never get a Lexus as they are over priced Toyotas! Won’t be watching Chasing Cars anymore as I feel they are very biased in their review!
Anybody that knows Chasing Cars knows that we're absolutely unbiased and independent. That's our thing. You may be experiencing some confirmation bias from your own purchase decision. All the best!
@@chasingcars before my first service Mazda offered to change the shock absorbers but I declined as I could not fault them! The ride is comparable to the cx5 that I traded in, in some cases slightly better so I don’t know where you found the ride too harsh!
Don't completely believe what these reviewers say. Because most of the reviews in Australia said Mazda cx30 is a noisy car and the ride is harsh. I feel it is quite opposite after owning one Mazda cx-30 it's very quiet and smooth car and and that car has the right suspension tuning for Melbourne roads
The CX-30’s ride isn’t as bad as the CX-60, but the -30 is indeed fairly stiff. Perhaps your car is on 16” wheels. If it’s on the 18s, well, it’s fairly stiff
Mine is on 18-in wheels The touring version@@chasingcars
Just cause they're both from Japan doesn't put them in the same league. One is a luxury SUV. The other is a standard SUV. Why not compare the Mazda to a BMW, or an Audi too?
It’s Mazda claiming it is now in the same league as Lexus and those other brands, not me.
@@chasingcars ic, should have told them that they're dreaming! Mazda having comedy hour!
One question about the warranty of Lexus in Australia.. why does the Lexus not get the 10 year warranty that we do here in the UK ..and the 15 year warranty on the hybrid battery?
CX-60: 570 Liter. Not 477 Liter.
I just click on the video for Tum baykas introduction. My fav Aussie car reviewer
Isn't the RX a bigger class vehicle?
It is a little longer and a little wider, yes, which explains part of the extra rear seat and boot room (as well as its shorter engine compartment). Still, these two are reasonable substitutes.
I feel the CX-60 has so much potential, but MAZDA seems to have dropped the ball on this one.
It does have potential. What it needs is an effective retune. Let’s see if the first upgrade does that…
The intriguing question is as you said how did Mazda let this onto the market because it begs the question what else have they let through that could take longer to show up and does not appear on a test drive or even over several months.
Mazada cx60 boot space is 570L, where this 477L come frome?
Such great content. Love your honesty and integrity.
Please don't compare mazda & lexus... They are completely at different levels, one is luxury and another is normal suv something like the distance of Lexus is the sky and mazda the earth, it's incomparable
Well said
I think the CX60 looks more masculine! As for handling, who cares about a little differences in handling and stiff suspension, some people actually like it!!
Who cares? People who like their vehicle to drive properly
Lexus Always❤❤❤❤❤ nothing can compare
Simple decision to make! if you have enough money go for lexus if you want a reliable car enough to take you to places with decent power tech and simple beautiful car go for mazda! Buy something you can afford!!
83kfor a Mazda? Also you can get the RX as a demo for early 90s
18:42 Sorry if I missed it being discussed, but halogen indicators on the Lexus? 🤮

thank you (I think)
@@chasingcars you re most welcome! thank you for the video.
I think the Lexus is definitely worth the extra cash 💰. They have an established brand recognition. While Mazda does a decent job it just isn’t quite there just yet. The Lexus gets my vote.
great video but should have waited for the CX70, that's the proper RX competitor in both price and size
After the disastrous 2.2l diesel in the cx5 I'd steer clear of anything diesel from Mazda.
$100,000 for a Lexus is crazy.. especially that size and being FWD
I wonder what Mazda will do with the suspension for current owners. Cant imagine they are changing springs or dampers...
We're finding out exactly what is being done, and also testing an upgraded car in a couple of weeks time. We'll then do an independent review of the upgrades and let you know how much it fixes the situation.
Mazda is offering a suspension fix for all owners, and all new CX60 already have it installed.
There's also an update for the transmission.
@@bauboni What are the technical details of the "fix"?

11:43 HOW IS 19in “Sensibly small” !!??
HOW!!!????
CX-60 VS Lexus NX , sorry but CX-60 not RX Level, I guess CX-90 is a better option to compare.
Lexus RX all day everyday, even if it costs a bit more. The RX is much more aesthetically pleasing, hybrid tech, lovely modern interior, plush ride and trusted Lexus quality.
Mazda trying to break into the luxury market needs a lot more refinement on their vehicles.
I hope the CX 70 is built better; because I ordered one and it should be delivered in the next couple of months.
Fingers crossed. With a couple of years of experience in building this platform now, there is no excuse for the teething problems to persist
Lexus RX for me.
Mazdas look great & 6 cylinder diesel is attractive so is the $27k difference however my allegiance is with Toyota-Lexus
The reviewer is trying to get you to believe that Mazda is a luxury brand, it is not. Lexus is an extremely refined car and just because Mazda raised their prices and put a few better materials does not make them a luxury car with a history of excellent performance and reliability.
Interesting, so what in your opinion determines a LUXURY car ?
@@RoyWyss
Not sure if you know, but at one point, Mazda was owned by Ford for many years. And not until Ford sold them in 2015.. did Mazda start to change from using unreliable parts from Ford to more reliable parts from Japan. A good luxury car has reliability and great. Looks like Lexus and Acura infinity and Genesis have not proved them themselves to be luxury cars yet either.
it will be hard to beat the simplicity and elegance of the Mazda interior
Another thing. Mazda has a 2500kg towing capacity across the board and not 2000/2500kgs
Thank you, your comparison is so interesting. A ccording to me, the mazda is much more beautiful than the RX. The front of the RX is so strange, it really looks like an electric car. So my CX 60 D200 will arrive soon. Australian commercial politic is much more efficient than here in France. I have to make a personnal demand for the suspension. They don't treat the problem in its globality and that's bad. But they know how Mazda australia treat the problem. Mazda France just want to make économy without calling back all the CX 60 sold in 2023, for maintenance.
Not a fair comparison….should have shown the awd version of the mazda
Maxda CX60 is not premium, what a joke!!
Jeep in Australia also makes this claim; push up prices and offer a rubbish engine choice, and call it premium.
A CX-60 has NOTHING in common with a CX-5. What are you talking about?
"Premium SUVs not from the usual suspects"? Wtf, Lexus has been in this conversation for VERY long time. Thanks for the review tho, I'm thinking of getting the cx-60 and this is a helpful video
The Mazda boot space is 570 litres not 477. A car review that can't even get the simple stats right lol.
Confirming we're correct in stating the boot space as 477L for the Australian market. Cheers.
Mazda says it's 570 litres and every review I have watched says the same. No idea where you guys get your information from but it's wrong. The Cx5 even has a bigger boot space than the 477 you say the Cx60 has..
What is premium about Mazda? It's not a premium SUV... come on!
Mazda ❤❤
So should u redo this comparison
Diesel is a dying format for cars. Also Mazdas have had reliabilty issues with diesels. If you cant afford the Lexus buy a lower spec one or a high spec Toyota Rav4 hybrid
i dont know how it is in Australia, but here there is a 20000$ difference price between them.
A luxury suv vs a want to be suv looks luxury. Not even in the same league.😂not many Lexus buyers will even consider a Mazda
Ppp
I think the most luxurious feature of 350h is the loud engine noise whenever you accelerate, even slightly. Somehow mazda managed that a lot better.
The cx60 is better in every way. This video is biased and presented without sufficient knowledge 😢
What insufficient knowledge? Be specific.
I drove the ES not long ago. It handles terribly. The RX is on the same chassis but much bigger and heavier. I can totally imagine how it drives. I used to a big fan of Lexus. I wouldn't consider any front wheel platform Lexus over Its RWD competitors.
I am on my third RX, all the 3.5l V6 RX450h, it handles well around the twisty roads as well on motorways.
I think Mazda has a 570 litre boot capacity and not 477.
How is 110,300 - 83,000 ended up as 16,000 difference ??? You just blatenly lied to everyone's face for the sake of putting two completely price bracket cars in the same comparison video!
How far has Lexus fallen that it’s being compared to Mazda?
I prefer the mazda because less is more. Too much bling bling is not modern, it's just too much. I like the Japanese ZEN idea. Everything that needs to be there is there, but invisible in the background. And here in Austria, for example, it's forbidden to use a smartphone while driving, but I'm allowed/must tap around on a car display to change something? Not logical. The quality of Mazda is outstanding.
BM
why do these cars cost 80% of a house?
Hang on you are comparing a first gen car to one that is old and nearly $28K more than the Mazda.
Every first gen modle has issues, yes I dont understand Mazdas final engineering release on this one. As far as safety features Mazda always scores 5 stars and does with the CX-60, Mazda can't win if lane departure was more agressive you would complain about this.
For a $30K price diff the Mazda is a bargain, take a look at the Canadian Japanese real Automotive engineer of 40 years experience videos on the Mazda CX-90 (same platform as CX-60) he rates it over Lexus in every department.
It's not enough to just say, oh, it's OK, because the Mazda is a first-generation product. The fact is it has to be competitive with the benchmarks. Yes, the Lexus is considerably more expensive, but clearly, you get what you pay for in this instance.
I have now 1 year Mazda CX-60 PHEV and all I can say is that everything is true.. Suspension is a disaster and some of the things are like this is they first car ever.. I love Mazda but I'm kinda disappointed.. Hopefully it will get better but I'm paying this one next 4 years so it won't be for me..
I wish we get the CX60 and CX 80 here in the Us. the CX70 is a failure that just don't fit or make sense. The cx60 should have been the x5 killer
A CX-60 would be an X3 competitor. Not even close to an X5.
Drove them both and ordered the Lexus. Seats are so much better and the actual drive experience in the Lexus suited us so so much more.
$83k for a Mazda and for a medium to large SUV that's a tiny boot space
The boot capacity is 570 litres not 477 litres.
Some background music, whilst dieing your analysis would be nice, thanks.
