      Was it too recent to post on YT? I can understand some studios don't like content being available for free, even though this is an established review channel 🤔

    Only just started watching but had to say:
    - Delighted to see Bill, he always has that “dude you _really_ wanna hang out with, but for no particular reason” vibe 😄
    - I did manage to see Asteroid City… i was really looking forward to it, but found it quirky to an almost obfuscating degree, though not in any particularly interesting way 🙁

    As a young man, hearing the dialogue about the usefulness of man being replaced by robots, which has been theoretical for longer than cinema as existed... and now, it seems we're racing towards many aspects of human obsolescence. The richest, powerful men say we're going to space, despite having no where to go. Seeing you persevere with this show is inspiring - perhaps a movie about hope? I sure could use one.

    It's amazing how many of these "not Star Wars" Sci-Fi films I had seen when I was little. I watched this somehow and I remember Hector creeping me right out. There's a lot of interesting stuff in this film but it feels like a much older film than it is. Star Wars was 1977 but films like this and the Black Hole that were made BECAUSE of Star Wars felt like they were 60's films. It's like the other film makers didn't understand that "lived in" feel that George Lucas managed so well and people like Ridley Scott picked up and ran with in Alien and Blade Runner so a film like Saturn 3 feels weirdly anachronistic.

    • @alexanderforbes1452
      @alexanderforbes1452 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps they saw the success of Star Wars and thought "oh, sci-fi is in again" and just hit the green light on some scripts they had benched for a decade. Execs usually take the wrong lesson when a movie hits, they look at the most surface level characteristic of a movie and crank out a few slap dash, undercooked stinkers to try and catch the wave before it passes.

    • @straker454
      @straker454 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alexanderforbes1452 What I think it is is, less the script and more the people they hire to make the films. I remember seeing some making of about the Black Hole and Disney's approach was to hire veteran film makers and effects guys while George Lucas was making new ways to film movies and I think it shows. Veteran film makers and effects guys in the 70's were people that were making films in the 50's and 60's and early 70's so the films felt older while George was trying to do something new and was ahead of his time. It wouldn't have mattered if the scripts were old, but it mattered that the people filming the script were old.

    I feel like this is one of those perfect movies to remake. It's old enough, it's got a really interesting concept that wasn't super well realized, and the story is as relevant today as ever. That said, it doesn't have name recognition, and that's the only thing studios actually care about with remakes. They don't want to improve a flawed piece of art, they just want to cash in by standing on the shoulders of giants. That became a rant, by bad.

    The ending of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" might be the first time I teared up in a movie theater. As an aspiring filmmaker, Harold Ramis meant alot to my growth and knowledge in all things film (Caddyshack and Groundhog Day are truly unimpeachable), so seeing his likeness show up took me by such shock and surprise that an overwhelming sadness took hold. And the way the rest of the Ghostbusters respond to his presence, they could very well be talking to Ramis the actor, not necessarily Egon the character. I later read that his daughter fully supported his likeness being used and believed it was done in a tasteful and respectful manner, so that was good enough for me. Can't wait for Afterlife 2!

    I used to love Jackass but after Bam fell apart & whatshisname died in that car accident, I thought to myself that glorifying self-destructive behavior like that may not be a good thing.

    • @rebekahyoder9335
      @rebekahyoder9335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me, watching Bam & etc.... it felt like having a friend in the group who just refused to mature. Everyone else around them is growing up and making changes and doing different things with their lives , but they were stuck in a rut where destroying their minds & bodies was all they knew how to do for attention.
      At some point nobody wants to hang out with the guys setting themselves on fire at the camp every weekend for the lolz, you want them to be able to just sit, chill and talk.

    I have never fallen asleep in the theater, but I have gotten up and walked out of 2 movies as an adult. I have lost my desire to sit through stuff merely because I'd paid for a ticket. I want my more valuable time back and to not waste head space on stuff.
    Ohhh, Jackass. Maybe because I am in my late 40s but I think that era lasted a little too long. Did I watch it ? Yep. Did I laugh ? Oh Yes. But there was a point where it was just.... Done.
