I've beaten 1, V2, and 3 on Sniper Elite difficulty and 4 and 5 on Authentic Plus and Authentic, and I gotta say V2 is the best by far. It's the easiest to learn to play, the most fast paced and exciting, and it's got the best cutscenes and music. I like the other sniper elites openness and stealth but this one got the action down pat.
I am obsessed with the Sniper Elite series, I honestly can't explain it. I love all the games, including V2. V2 might seem old school and dated by modern standards, but thats why I love it. The linear levels keep the pacing interesting (though there are plenty of moments that are relatively open), and I honestly love how simple and straightforward the gameplay is. No bells and whistles, just fun sniping and great atmosphere. I really hate the sniper battles though, especially on the hardest difficulty. Their vision and accuracy is too fucking good. This was done a lot better in future games
sniper elite 1 actually had a very distinct sfx to mask your shots not really guess work, in the background there'll be an artillery probably shooting like 3 or 4 shells, when the shell hit sound comes up you have to take your shot quick. It's a bit precise than the later games
@@bass1645 the second mission actually explains this at the start of the level. It is quite a forgettable mechanic tho. Some levels don't even have the sound mask too.
This channel deserves so much more exposure, absolutely quality videos indepth and just clean editing Voice over I thought the views said 155k as I'd expect non-less , keep this up fantastic 👏
Thank you for leaving such a great comment! I totally agree, it DOES need more exposure haha. Make sure to share it with anyone who might enjoy! Is there anything in particular you would like me to cover? SE4 should be coming next Friday but I've got a little surprise in the pipeline coming a lot sooner...
I really appreciate you saying that! Every video I get a little bit better at writing, editing, and producing, so if you like this you're gonna love what's coming next! Any game requests?
@@Analog_Nightmare Absolutely! Spend time on the production and quality and with these retrospective videos, the script is probably to most important part. I was a big fan of the Conflict Series, Desert Storm I & II, Vietnam until they butchered it with Global whatever. That might be a good one, I'd certainly be hooked.
This video made me pull the trigger on the game. I've enjoyed my time in SE3 & 4 massively, and V2 has been on my wishlist for a long time. I'm expecting to be zoned out for hours on end in this one!
@@savariaxa Thanks! I already bought it, during a Steam sale a while back. I have to say, it's nowhere near the quality of SE 3 or 4. For one, it's much too linear for me.
Yesterday I got Sniper Elite V2 Remastered for $1.74 on the Playstation Store, I played until 3 AM, best decision ever.I have always wanted to play a Sniper Elite game, and now I really feel like Karl.
This is great help. Thank you! I'm trying to put together a chronological ordered playthrough of World War II levels in video games and this helps with the history. Thank you
I grew up with medal of honor ps1 and medal of honor frontline remastered ps3 with the sniper elite series I have the same feelings again played 4 and 3 and now 2 I love it !
I actually turn off the Ambient Occlusion, due to it being a poor implementation that ends up looking like hard outlines around objects and giving a more cartoon look in some areas, it was strange. Granted, it does look good in some areas, but turning it off still looks just as good, it's easy to get used to seeing things without it and doesn't bug me every once in a while like the poor AO does. Honestly, I wish they would've given an option to use HBAO, SSAO, etc. for PC users, or at default to something based off what GPU brand is detected.
I find I'm very particular about ambient occlusion when it comes to certain patterns and fabrics. I find any materials that has small ridges (think the material of car seatbelts) are super distracting depending on what settings are available. HBAO+ (I think that's the one) singlehandedly saved my enjoyment of RE2 haha
I've been thinking about this, and I agree, but I think they need to change up the gimmicks with how they're presenting each game. Basically what they've done with the latest Hitman games, they're shorter, self contained experiences, with more variety. I think the Sniper Elite formula lends itself to that type of game structure.
An excellent review. I got this as part of the SE bundle so it didn't cost me $40, and I wouldn't pay that for this game, but as a remastered older game it's fun and interesting to play and see how the series has developed. In some ways it's harder than the later games, as you can't save at will, but have to hit a checkpoint, and the greater linearity forces a certain play style. I'm only on the second mission. Even in SE5 you still get Karl in the cutscenes, and not even with your chosen loadout/outfit but what chose to use, that seems very poor and lazy programming. Also in SE5 we still get very dumb enemy AI at times; a close miss or non-lethal hit freezes the target for a second shot, rather then diving immediately for cover and THEN trying to figure out where the shot came from. It's almost as if they don't value their digital lives.
Yeah once 5 is done I'm probably gonna rerelease all the videos in one big supercut where I'll go back and play each of them on harder difficulties, a few people have pointed out how much it changes/breaks the game
@@Analog_Nightmare Really great video besides that, by the way. I wish every game had a review as in-depth as this, instead of the 5 minute first impressions stuff most of the mainstream game news outlets put out.

I was thinking that!! I'm split on the idea of a game set in Japan, but Cold War could be such a cool setting. The ziplines especially could be a great start to some urban traversal.

Hello! I don't have time to help but if you go on the website "True Achievements" (I think there's a version for steam too) you can actually search fir groups that are playing the game specifically to collect achievements, that's usually how I collect the harder ones :)
The official name on Steam should be "Sniper Elite v2 REFUNDED" 😀 (That's what I did anyway). I remember they kind of alluded to it being a rebuild using the SE4 engine, and of course it was just a cash grab reskin.
@@Analog_Nightmare I really like V2, I Like the drab grey depressing surroundings that fit the war infested streets perfectly and as you mention the story telling which is great without it needing to be silent or worse still bad acting, unless you like that sort of thing, in which case Rouge Warrior is hilarious, so bad it's good if you've not played it. As for Elite III, I started it and found it tooo bright, you could throw a party in that desert! I've also not had the same eagerness to carry on playing it as I did with the V2, so it's been sat there, I was going to play them in order but I'd rather just play V2 again. I guess I need to give it more of a chance, but that's just it it's not pulling me in like the previous game.
I would go back and try 1 if you can get it on sale but it's very different. I'm playing through 5 right now and it's enjoyable but they definitely changed things up
As a Russian myself I really hate this part of the game: hopefully didn't manage to play yet, and, THANK GOD, won't do this at all for now. As I saw the "enemy" - are the Soviet soldiers. Those, who came through sh*t, losing their families and closest ones in a total genocide on their own land made by filthfull, pathetic and hateful Nazi regime and the SS scumbags, whose place is really in hell. For those 27 million loses, these soldiers who came to Berlin to destroy Nazism and all it had left, in order to prevent and totally annihilate this plague of untihuman idea which can corrupt the whole planet and domesticate it for itself (Wolfenstein is the best way of what may have happened to it), and now the developers offer me this s*t??? I understand absolutely seriously it would be the Cold War, but the former allies didn't proclaime "a war" to each other: they supported their regimes in other countries and helped it - that's why it's called "The Cold war". But this bullsh*t I won't do even for the best version. And this was the time we were still friends and brothers in arms, even though the fog of the cold war has really appeared at the very end of it (it was being glanced mostly between the commanders' ranks, but junior soldiers really still good negotiated between each other), but being a historian myself I didn't find out there was really clear and opened fighting between both sides. I also can admit even though it was the game of the Soviet perspective and happened to play as a Soviet Sniper and the enemy "would be" the American soldiers whom I should "lay down" - I wouldn't have probably done it, as I also remember the Omaho beach fight, the D-Day, Normandy landing, liberation of France and, at last, meeting on the Elbe river between the American soldiers and the Soviet soldiers as fellers and brothers in arms, shaking hands to each other, greetings with hugs and really becoming friends. So for me the idea of shooting and "ally" is ridiculous (no damn it would be later "a Cold war" and a resistance to former ally in new political system), during the WWII we still were allies and saw each other as friends against the Nazis. And especially NOT shooting those who REALLY made One of The Most Decisive VICTORY over the pure evil that almost has conquered the whole world and in other way could leave the most of the population of the Earth to the ashes due to their evil perverted ideology. So, as for me, I would have never play the game to which part I feel bad and disgust, having also my relatives who suffered in this war from the Nazis (as all of the modern population of my country), so I won't recommend it at all: let the "other one" play this "game", I'm fed up with this part.

Honestly the best thing about sniper elite v2 is the fact that its both a ww2 game and a cold war game at the same time
I've been thinking about how cool a cold war SE game could be, there's lots of opportunities there for locations and points in time.
