The Metroid game is actually excellent. From the graphics (3d in this is awesome!) to the audio to the gameplay to the atmosphere - it's a top notch title.
I think the original Return of Samus wasn't that great and this wasn't either. I don't think there is a single room in the entire game that isn't used for something. And it's also very linear. That's what I like least about it, in the first Metroid especially there are tons of corridors that just lead to dead ends and it just makes exploration much more fun. My least favorite 2D Metroid by far, love all the others, this was still good and I had fun playing it, just not as much as the others.
It _is_ an excellent game, and got me into the series. Now I've played them all. Great game for newcomers. It's not perfect and takes a few missteps here and there, but it's probably my favorite game on the 3DS next to Link Between Worlds.
@@RideRedRacer Yeah all the used 3ds games at my local GameStops are in a small display stand without the case. The only games with the case are the New copies. I'm not crazy about cases so it makes sense to me because they do take up so much more space, plus they'd have to just have the case sitting out with no game in it anyways because they'd be pre-owned.
Australian here: It's getting real hard to find good games at decent prices - the prices on almost everything that is considered decent are locked around the $45-$60 range, and that includes pre-owned copies. That's if you can even find a copy. I have about 15 games left on my 3ds 'to buy list', but the problem is they're things like Persona Q, Bravely Default, Samus Returns, LoZ:ALBW and Kirby Planet Robobot. If you find them at EB (BIG if) expect to pay at least $50. Find them at a pawn shop? $60+ For brand new, new releases? Okay, maybe. But for 2+ year old 3ds games? I don't like paying more than $30-$40 for the best of these games, because: 1.Handheld 2.Now outdated system 3.Old games 4.Still in production It is expensive collecting for an end-of-life handheld console. I really appreciate the Nintendo Selects range - that feels like the appropriate price for 3DS games at this stage of it's lifecycle.

Such a great system. I know a lot of us are sick of the 3ds because we have been playing it for so long, but I think it will be one of the best systems to go back to in the years to come. With so many all time classics not to mention the DS library it is still a must own system in my opinion.

The 3Ds is my favorite console of all time, and i want to recomend to you my favorite game on the systme, which is kid icarus uprising. They even released over 400 AR cards for the game, which i collect and are really well made. Kid icarus is really the complete package, you can beat the story in maybe 9 hours, but it could take you over 100 to 100% complete it with all the trophys and achievements you have to collect. I really really like it. I also want to recomend quickly the dragon quest 7 and 8 remakes and fantasy life if you are looking for a fun coop rpg-simulation game

@@RandomGuy-ws6td oh thats very simple, if you want horsepower get the xbox, if you want a lot of games get ps. The thing is microsoft are always trying to compete with powerful consoles but they lack game library. On the other side sony are trying their best to provide also a good console but they invest a lot more into creating more and more games. I personally prefer big game library than more powerful console. Its like sega vs nintendo back in the day. Sega tried to sell their console by marketing how fast it is, but even that the graphics were better, the game library was too small to compete vs nintendo. Its still the same nowadays.
I didn't even know there was a Frogger for this system. Think I'll pick me up that physical game sometime. Metroid: Samus Returns is still my favorite 3DS title. It was a well made remake worthy of a handheld collection.
for me the snake eater 3d version is the best of all the re editions. You can crouch, you have the map in the bottom screen, the 3d looks great. even in the old 3ds plays great
If you don't have it LBX little battlers is an amazing mecha game for the 3ds. I highly suggest it, it's like custom robo on the Ds only better, and better combat. Walmart is selling it new for like 13 dollars. It's a crazy good game, I'm shocked it's not talked about more. Here is the link if any one is interested - www.walmart.com/ip/LBX-Little-Battlers-Experience-Nintendo-Nintendo-3DS-045496743260/45589592
I mean, kind of a matter of opinion. Personally, I found it far less enjoyable than Custom Robo, between the combat being kind of jank and most of the stuff outside of combat being a bit of a slog.
I still play my 3DS here and there. I love what I have and when I’m able to expand my collection outside of things I’m going to be playing for my content, I’m eventually going to pick up more of these. Also, can’t wait to see what your game room is going to look like once it gets all cleaned up and organized man!
I was surprised I didn't like Samus Returns either. Turns out the counter mechanic and precise aiming complicated the game too much for me to enjoy it. It broke up combat and made it slow and methodical when what I really want out of the Metroid 2D games is something fast-paced and simple. Like the precise aiming could have its use in certain situations, but not as the main way of fighting. Shortly before Samus Returns, I had played Zero Mission for the GBA for the first time and I *loved* it. Taking out enemies wasn't a slog, it was usually just a simple matter of jumping into the right position and firing, crouching, etc. In this, you have to stop moving, aim and fire. It keeps you grounded during combat so you can pick your shots and I just didn't like that. Maybe I'm misremembering that part, but the second problem was countering. I don't want to stop every few minutes to time my counters in that game. Don't get me wrong, I love games like the Batman Arkham series, Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4, the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor/War series and Assassin's Creed, so I *do* enjoy countering, it's a great mechanic when done right, but it did not belong in Metroid. That's more for melee-based games, not where you're playing a space-age bounty hunter with a blaster attached to their arm. That's about as bad as having Call of Duty requiring you to constantly stop firing your gun so you can counter and enemy charging at you. EVERY LEVEL. That'd suck. No one wants that, it doesn't belong.
I actually really liked it.. Maybe I'm just weird, or maybe it's cos I never played the originals.. I liked the pace etc. And thought the countering felt pretty epic in a power trip kinda way
Ya, I don't like the controls either. I though that it was my problem, but looks like is a hit or miss. A lot of people like it, and a lot of poeple don't. To me looks like I'm always struggling with the controls, like I fear the controls not the enemies...
I really didn't enjoy the 3DS comming from the vita, but one game I did enjoy was Rune Factory. Rune Factory and Fire emblem made it worth it to me though. Shame he didn't include it, never see much mentioned about it.
Sadly in Europe and Australia (PAL), Rune Factory 4 was only ever released as an eshop digital exclusive. Same for many other great games e.g. Minecraft.
If you haven’t bought it yet, you owe it to yourself to get Ever Oasis. It’s made by Grezzo, the same company that was responsible for the 3DS Zelda remakes. It is by far one of the most under appreciated games in the 3ds’s library
@@atifghafoor6258 the story isn't as much of a focus, but there is still a strange mystery there. I haven't played enough to really tell you but I am enjoying what story I've seen so far.. Don't expect to compare to mainline games in those terms though!
At this point I've pretty much gotten every 3DS game I ever wanted, the only exception I can think of is Sega 3D classics collection and Persona Q I think I have around 70 games on the thing? Around that number.
A really fun hidden gem that I don't think ever got a physical release is Starship Damrey. It is only a few hours long, but it is a good puzzle type game with a great twist ending. Totally recommend it if you have an afternoon to kill.
I'm so glad I bought a copy when the game was fairly new from Amazon when I found out that the company who made it went bankrup. Hope you manage to find a copy of it! :)
You should definitely check out “Kid Icarus Uprising”.. the controls take a little time to get used to but once you do you feel right at home with the game and it’s one of my favorite 3DS titles
there are some super underrated rpgs id recommend for other rpg fanatics, one is radiant historia perfect chronology, and the other, legend of legacy. super unacknowledged by a majority of players upon release but the music, story and everything else in these games is top notch. maybe there are some playthroughs for them though if youre unsure of checking it out but 100% it imo !!
There's nothing wrong with the DS version so I understand not seeing a need to buy it again. Especially for the ludicrous price it fetches now... I tried to find a copy at launch in the UK, no dice.
I just ordered a New 3DS XL yesterday and I am SO EXCITED! 🤩 It comes with 27 games, and I chose a lot of them based on this video's recommendations, including Kirby Planet Robobot!
Metroid game was the first one I played till the end and loved every minute of it. I’m surprised you didn’t enjoy it. It might be my favourite 3ds game.
30fps 2D game killed it for me compared to the 60fps Gameboy original. I only bought it to support a "new" 2D Metroid in hopes of it getting an enhanced Switch port.
I love the voice acting on Solange. Her voice is cute. The game was a little too hard for me, though. I wish the 3D effect would've been a bit more optimized to run smooth, too.
Hey MJ, great video and great 3ds collection! I got the 3ds at launch (I know, expensive) w/ Pilotwings and it blew me away, still one of my favorites on the system. @@MetalJesusRocks will there be a Xbox One Buying Guide? I wonder why there isnt already one...
@@RandomGuy-ws6td simply cuz its crap
@@theone3776 ok... I cant decide which to buy. Ps4 or xbox one.
Can you recommend me one. And tell the pro and contra?
Watching this after I bought my 3DS XL from Upstate Gaming store located in South Carolina.
for me the snake eater 3d version is the best of all the re editions. You can crouch, you have the map in the bottom screen, the 3d looks great. even in the old 3ds plays great
I didn't know it has the map in the corner lol, I gotta check it out but I doubt its better than the ps3/vita versions
MJR, thank you so much for all your videos. Whenever I’m looking at new consoles and games to choose. Your the first channel I go to!!!
I didn't like it quite as much as I enjoyed Custom Robo Arena or V2 but aside from that I fully agree, LBX was awesome!
I mean, kind of a matter of opinion. Personally, I found it far less enjoyable than Custom Robo, between the combat being kind of jank and most of the stuff outside of combat being a bit of a slog.
Two hidden gems: Project X Zone 1 and 2, both great turn base tactical RPG
Dude, take a break! You just moved, It's the week before xmas. All your fans don't mind you chillin for a bit. That being said, Great video!
I'll be trying to catch up on the unpacking this weekend and during Christmas for sure.
I still play my 3DS here and there. I love what I have and when I’m able to expand my collection outside of things I’m going to be playing for my content, I’m eventually going to pick up more of these.
Also, can’t wait to see what your game room is going to look like once it gets all cleaned up and organized man!
Bravely default and bravely second are among my favourite on the system, amazing games.
Why?
@@joneslr25 Why? Just great jrpgs in my opinion.
It's funny, I remember metal jesus talking about some of these games.
When he was back with the A.G.G. crew, man that seems like it was forever ago.
One of the few people who liked the 3ds for the 3D
I loled the 3D on the "New" 3DS as well I still play mine from time to time!
Loved the 3ds for 3d. Only reason why im collecting for the system. Gonna age like a fine wine
I really loved the metroid Samus returns remastered, It felt like a brand new game and enjoyed it. Please do more 3ds games videos
I think you are right about the counter mechanic. I hated that and it just really slowed down every battle. It got annoying quick.
You know, I didn't enjoy it that much and I never really knew why. But you are definitely spot on with that.
I did not like it either.
I had no idea Snake Eater was on the 3DS. I am going to get this one!
Yeah you can find it pretty cheap at GameStop
It runs pretty poorly though, even though it adds the crouch walk from Peace Walker, I would recommend giving the demo for it a shot.
I found that cramming all the controls on the 3DS quite unwieldy and a bit difficult to use. Shame cuz it's awesome to have Snake Eater on the go.
The Circle Pad Pro certainly helps.
If your have a Vita get that version.
It’s nice to know someone else that actually uses the 3DS Slider
I got Kid Icarus Uprising for $27 dollars at a game store, and it's my favorite 3DS game of all time
rune factory 4
"Get them CHEAP while you still can."
... Says the guy that indirectly causes game prices to increase through his hidden gem videos.
Hey, better get moving lol
Yeah I groaned when I saw this video drop too because I’m slowly trying to collect games missing from my collection
The 3ds is my favorite portable video game by far. I love it.
Super solid picks! I just picked up Persona Q2!!!
ron s that was the last 3ds game I got . Still never played it though
Such a good game, only persona I've played besides persona 5 and really enjoying it so far
I really like the style of the cover art for both Personas on the 3DS 😄 Feels very whimsical, neo 70s ish
Is it a improvement on the first one the story didn't really seem to be much of a focus on that and I played persona 4 and 4 so was left disappointed.
@@atifghafoor6258 the story isn't as much of a focus, but there is still a strange mystery there. I haven't played enough to really tell you but I am enjoying what story I've seen so far.. Don't expect to compare to mainline games in those terms though!
At this point I've pretty much gotten every 3DS game I ever wanted, the only exception I can think of is Sega 3D classics collection and Persona Q
I think I have around 70 games on the thing? Around that number.
3ds and psp are my favs
3DS and Vita. Okay I guess PSP too. DS too but you can play DS games on the 3DS
Antonio Maldonado when you hve a 3ds there is literally no advantage to having a ds, smaller screen size and no joystick
I should have never sold my psp. It was mint too. So mad at my younger self lol
I'm about to buy a modded psp for $50
you’re* dont buy a modded one lmao all u need to do to mod it is drag a couple files onto the sd card and it will be cheaper
A really fun hidden gem that I don't think ever got a physical release is Starship Damrey. It is only a few hours long, but it is a good puzzle type game with a great twist ending. Totally recommend it if you have an afternoon to kill.
I bought my son a 3DS for his birthday last year and fell in love with it. I bought him a switch for Xmas and I am taking the 3DS for myself.
That's a bit shady tho if you are taking it against his will.
@@NA-xp2cr who in the hell said I was taking it against his will?
@@brandonsmith5880 , very true.
Man that is excellent most people trader there old systems away but you kept the 3ds that is very kool
I gotta snag up every Fire Emblem game, handheld or otherwise.
Definitely have Awakening in your collection, I remember when this first came out it took me a year to find a copy
@@ladynikkie badass. I'm working on Fates Birthright, and Tactics Ogre on PSP rn. Handheld turn based strategy rules.
I just bought Shadow dragon recently but I guess that's a DS title but still. I love fire emblem!
I see your a man of good taste! Don't forget FE echoes shadows of valentia too!
Duerst The Wuerst
Good luck. Some of the console Fire Emblems will cost you your limbs and your life savings.
there are some super underrated rpgs id recommend for other rpg fanatics, one is radiant historia perfect chronology, and the other, legend of legacy. super unacknowledged by a majority of players upon release but the music, story and everything else in these games is top notch. maybe there are some playthroughs for them though if youre unsure of checking it out but 100% it imo !!
Not having Radiant Historia is a crime
There's nothing wrong with the DS version so I understand not seeing a need to buy it again. Especially for the ludicrous price it fetches now... I tried to find a copy at launch in the UK, no dice.
Project S.T.E.A.M, is my hidden gem recommendation for the 3DS.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows Of Valentia. That is all you need.
My favorite 3DS game, hands down.
You misspelled Mario
The Ultimate Mario Fan 1) He has all the Mario’s.
2) That’s a very weird way of spelling “I have a small peener.”
I finished it earlier this year. It's fantastic!
Awakening
Having seen the guy being voted most to _"go to therapy"_ , I can no longer look upon Chibi Robo Zip Lash unless it's in the toilet. Cos _it blows._
All you do is make my shopping list longer and longer and for that i thank you
HAHAHA. Glad you enjoyed the video ;)
Loool this is very tru alot of time metal give me a recommendation I go out to buy it
I'm surprised you were disappointed in Samus Returns. It might be my favorite 3DS game.
Just starting playing my 2DS more and man it’s a great little system. Picked up Kirby Extra Epic Yarn and M&L: Bowsers Inside Story recently.
Don't forget Kirby: Triple Deluxe it's a solid title in the series as well, and has a more old school Kirby feel.
If you saw Yokai Watch 3 just grab it. It already become rare for a latest release 3DS game library.
Tymothy Leong - Yeah, it seems like that game had an extremely small print run, extremely small.
You should have Shantae! Also, Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey and Culdcept Revolt
Shadow Wars was a great game. Got me through the rough launch of the 3ds.
Is it just me or did the 3ds seem like a perfect system for an F-Zero game?
I dont think they had a 3 ds version of f zero but would be epic
@@khanthevideogamehunter2946 it didn't. Sadly.
I just ordered a New 3DS XL yesterday and I am SO EXCITED! 🤩 It comes with 27 games, and I chose a lot of them based on this video's recommendations, including Kirby Planet Robobot!
I can’t believe how expensive yo kai watch 3 physical copies have gotten
Great video jesus. I actually just bought my first 3ds a couple weeks ago and needed some good recommendations for games. This helps a lot. Thank you.
YOU SKIPPED OVER AZURE STRIKER GUNVOLT IN THE 2D PLATFORMER SECTION!!!!
I think it was actually covered on a hidden gems with Reggie
I thought they covered it on the hidden gems of Reggie
Metroid game was the first one I played till the end and loved every minute of it. I’m surprised you didn’t enjoy it. It might be my favourite 3ds game.
30fps 2D game killed it for me compared to the 60fps Gameboy original. I only bought it to support a "new" 2D Metroid in hopes of it getting an enhanced Switch port.
I just picked up Code of Princess. Reggie has said good things about it im exited to try it.
I love the voice acting on Solange. Her voice is cute.
The game was a little too hard for me, though. I wish the 3D effect would've been a bit more optimized to run smooth, too.
Radical Reggie has The Knowledge ;)
@@MetalJesusRocks Indeed he does!
I remember his video on that
Stick to the 3DS Version, the PS4 version looks like ass.
I dunno why but i just cant stop play Metroid when i got my hands on the game. Just so addicting
I know it was a ver good game
Should have watched this when I had the chance. 😩
Hey MJ, great video and great 3ds collection! I got the 3ds at launch (I know, expensive) w/ Pilotwings and it blew me away, still one of my favorites on the system. Have you thought about a download-only 3ds video? Some real gems there like the Box Boy series, Pushmo series, Gunman Clive, Mighty Switch Force, Mutant Mudds, Xeodrifter. Hope you have a Merry Christmas settling into your new place!
I'm in Canada and they are not cheap, if anyone sells them cheap locally the resellers grab them up fast.
I know that feeling I am from Canada as well. And local stores sell them for to much
@@khanthevideogamehunter2946 Anything Nintendo is overpriced
