I must say it´s strange and weird seeing one of the most influential musicians of my life for the last 15 years being interviewed in my tiny little hometown of around 1500 people and the place that I work at is in the backround... absolutely surreal!

The biggest change is production, the tone and the transitions of growls to cleans. His cleans have improved with each record they put out, while his growls reached the pinnacle of perfection with Ghost Reveries. Since then, however, they've gone downhill, and only recently has it come back.
It's not so much of "Opeth isn't brutal anymore" or "Opeth isn't Opeth" and "Opeth ain't evil enough" but more in a sense of how previous records flowed so well with each other, and the majestic transitions between death and progressive.
I may not have enjoyed Heritage, and liked Pale Communion just a bit more, but I'm not entirely stuck in the pre-2008 Opeth as much as I was when Heritage dropped.
Something that also, likely bugs Mikael, is how Damnation wasn't Blackwater Park, or Deliverance, and why do some fans hate this direction when that record was praised?
It's because it still sounded like Opeth.
I'm looking forward to the new album, and I did enjoy the track released a bit more with each listen. I'll still miss those MAYH and Still Life moments of magic, but I won't stop myself from listening to this new direction of the band.
