  • The 2019 Chevy Traverse Premier AWD provides best-in-class cargo capacity, but is that enough to sway buyers? How about active safety? Can it compete against rivals like the Volkswagen Atlas, Honda Pilot and Subaru Ascent? In this full review we check out all the features.

    What would you buy in this class? The Traverse... or...?

      Mazda CX9 formthe build quality, materials, and driving engagement. Hyundai Palisade is my second choice as its just gorgeoous inside out but not sure how that 3.8L Atkinson cycle engine will perform

      If one really needs the 6+ passenger and cargo capacity on a regular basis in an SUV this large, the Traverse (or the better equipped Enclave) is a reasonable choice. I'd have to say, though, the lack of adaptive cruise control is a major downer. I never thought much about its value before having a vehicle with ACC but now I wouldn't own a vehicle aimed at long highway slogs without it. Does a great job of reducing fatigue and lengthens the need for rest stops by about a third. If you've never owned a vehicle with ACC, don't discount its value. Finally, the lack of automatic AWD engagement is simply ridiculous. I assume it's a fuel saving choice but expecting a driver to anticipate when AWD might be useful is beyond stupid.
      As far as competitors are concerned, the VW Atlas offers even more room, especially in the third row, in a somewhat more efficiently designed package. But considering the greater likelihood of discounts from a Chevy dealer in real world negotiations, you'll probably pay somewhat more than for a comparably equipped Traverse. The Ascent offers somewhat less passenger and cargo room at a somewhat lower price point (for a top trim) but the interior is less premium and I'm inclined to believe that a V6 is a better choice than a turbo 4 in vehicles of this kind. Likewise, the new Pilot offers somewhat less interior room but it does have a V6 and in most configurations more features than an comparable Traverse.
      A number of commenters will tout the Mazda CX-9. But in terms of the actual features that are priorities in this class of vehicles, it fails miserably. Externally, it's huge. At 199 inches long it's only 5.3 inches shorter than the Traverse. It's even longer than the humungous VW Atlas. But it offers only about 60% of the passenger and cargo space of the Traverse. In fact, the CX-9 offers less interior space than a Kia Sorento or a Honda CR-V! And the CX-9's third row seating is especially shortchanged. At 29.1 inches of legroom it's a full 4 and a half inches less than the Traverse and even 2 inches less than the much smaller Sorento. Add to that the fact that a V6 is not available for the CX-9 and it's difficult to justify the CX-9 on any basis other than its relatively good looking profile and handling on secondary roads, not exactly the most critical priorities for a vehicle in this class.

      If I need AWD, the Ascent from Subaru. Otherwise the Honda Odyssey is more attractive than this boring, behemoth crossover.

    • @stephenhendricks103

      @@BWKAPPA Set the cruise control to a specific speed. Your speed is then reduced to maintain a set distance to a vehicle in front of you typically via a radar sensor on the front of the vehicle. Once the lane in front is clear, the vehicle automatically accelerates to the set cruising speed.

    I have the 2019 Chevy Traverse Premier model and there is adaptive cruise control. There are a lot of things missing in this review, like for the rear view camera has a button to adjust the brightness. You also have lane assist if you just hit the button next to the drive knob.

    Thank you for your review. I own a 2019 Premier FWD and I am really satisfied (so far!) with my car. Just a comment on your statement about available safety features: the Premier trim actually comes with auto braking (I know from experience!) and the adaptive cruise control is indeed available with the High Country trims.

      What exactly is Adaptive Cruise Control?

    • @antonionaddeo5602
      @antonionaddeo5602 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BWKAPPA it’s the evolution of standard cruise control and allows you to “adapt” the speed of your vehicle to traffic conditions. You would be able to set a desired speed AND how distant from the car in front of you you want to stay, and the car will cruise, accelerate or decelerate according to your selections. Some cars with adaptive cruise control will also come to a complete stop if the car in front of you has stopped. In other words it’s the closest thing to having a “self-driving” car, but you still have to constantly keep your hands on the steering wheel!

    • @tomtalker2000
      @tomtalker2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know what it is and i find it quite dangerous. I think cars are becoming "TO TECHIE" in my honest opinion. I'm just fine thanks with standard cruise control. If you need a car to accelerate or decelerate for you. Your just to damn lazy considering the cruise switch can do the same thing with the flick of a button up or down with your finger.

    I have a 2019 Traverse High Country and yes it has adaptive cruise control, lane departure assist and other features. Granted the High Country is the top trim, I am pretty sure the Premiere has adaptive cruise control as well. The maker of this video should release a correction.

    • @michaels7984
      @michaels7984 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adaptive cruise control is only on high country. Chevy has gotten a lot of flack because they have limited these safety features to, in some cases, the top two trim levels or, as with acc, limited it to the highest trim level.
      Most of their competitors at the very least offer all these features as options even on lower trim levels.

    I’m driving a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse rental from Enterprise and the only thing I didn’t like is the rear back up camera because it looks like I’m in a tunnel backing up. I have to be very cautious. My wife’s Lexus back up camera works great and it’s clear . No tunnel effect.

    I bought a 2018 loaded Chevy equinox and the bad thing about GM is that they don’t offer a long warranty on their vehicles. Because they want u pay extra outta pocket which they’re vehicles only comes with a 60,000 mile factory warranty. I paid extra money onto my loan for an extended warranty coverage of 100,000 mile.
    See the. Difference 🤔🤔
    Hyundai vehicles, I also drive a 2020 Santa Fe AWD
    But my vehicle is covered up to 200,000 factory warranty meaning if any goes wrong like engine transmission, awd system all I pay is $200 and the warranty takes care the rest.
    That’s Hyundai vs Chevy!!!

    I like that GM has vehicles available without all of that electronic safety bullshit that drives the cost of vehicles up dramatically. There are many vehicles, across manufacturers, with the collision avoidance systems are having random braking issues where the system either slows the car dramatically, or even bringing the car to a complete stop for no reason (sometimes while even on the freeway). No computer is as safe as a driver that's paying attention to the road and his/her surroundings.

    • @plmn93
      @plmn93 ปีที่แล้ว

      Statistically speaking, they are safer. As in they prevent more accidents than they cause for the average driver. But yeah, not perfect and very disconcerting when it takes control away from you.
