Thanks for the DB meter. Hearing is logarithmic and a bit confusing for the layperson. Every 3db doubles apparent sound volume. Also your review of sound quality is a valued addition to the review. Thumbs up from a retired sound contractor.

I have both speakers. The Anker is ok and the battery life is really good. The Oontz is s better all around speaker. Sound quality is better, more bass, can use to talk on the phone, water resistant, etc. Both can be found for less than $25. I bought each one for about $22. Best thing about both speakers is they're so cheap that if you break one, so what. They're only $20-ish

The Oontz Ultra has 14 watts vs the 10 that the Plus has. Much better bass & sound quality. Do a demo of that one against the Anker.

also oontz angle ULTRA has dual stereo pairing ... AND YES ... oontz often requires an equalizer to offset the high Bass

Oddly enough I can compare these 2 head to head,, my GF has an Anker, and I have am Oontz. She bragged about her Anker... I bragged about my Oontz. All things equal, the Anker is a tad bit louder, but it looses it's sound quality in the upper ranges,, the Ooontz, carries itself better, has more bass and thrives off being played at full volume. To me, there is no comparison in the 2.. it's like comparing JL Audio to Pioneer. Buy the Ooontz!

I have no idea about the Oontz, but the Soundcore I bought a couple of weeks ago is freaking awesome in the way I use it.. I have several Bluetooth speakers including the Archeer A320 and the Altec Lansing Boomjacket. I find it odd that you are only using loudness as a determining variable. Quality of sound and function seem to me to be more important. Good luck man. Keep working.

Hey, could you test plugging the aux cable on the Oontz speaker when it's being turned OFF, and then turn ON the speaker, does the speaker enter aux mode ? I would like to find out about this since some bluetooth speakers (like mifa a1) can't auto-detect the plugged aux cable after turned on, so you would need to replug the aux cable to enter aux mode.

so hard to tell via a YT video but before you even said it ... I noticed a bit "richer bass" from the Oontz... I see some reviews saying it has better base than other speakers but this doesn't sound like one of those things where "it's so much extra base, it drowns the mids and highs out"

Thanks for the review. Because the Angle is at an "angle" I wonder if your meter was placed too low to catch the true level. I think if you held the meter at the angle of the speakers you would have had a higher value. Both are great options but a slight miss in my option.

The reviewer says the Anker has better highs. That's exactly the opposite of what I hear when I listen to this video. Also, unless the SPL meter was exactly the same distance from both speakers, the sound level readings are inaccurate, because SPL varies as the square of the distance from the sound source.
Other than that, I am not too concerned about level. Both figures you cited are painfully loud ... but were measured a few inches from the speaker. Unless you are listening that close to the speaker, the levels will be much lower. Besides, if a speaker sounds awful, I don't care how loud it is. (Would you rather have a half-pound burger made from spoiled meat, or a quarter-pound burger made from fresh prime beef?) Judging from the recorded sound on your review, the Oontz sounds much better.

    • @JasonPainJames

I wonder if in this video if the Oontz was put at it's maximum possible volume. I say this because on my Oontz I had to put my volume all the way up on my phone first. And then if I hit the volume on my Oontz speaker it would go even louder after that. Not sure if that's with all Oontz! speakers or a flaw in ones I had. But yes if I used both my phone volume control and my speaker volume control there was a difference as opposed to only using the Oontz volume by itself. If that made sense. I'm not sure what the person making the video did and I don't have a clue of the loudness of different DBs or the Anker speaker. I did find my Oontz to be plenty loud. I've not tried the Anker. I'm definitely looking for a portable speaker with great and obvious base with the option of using two as stereo. At stores I've found one of the Bose brands to have a superior true base sound. However I don't know if it truly is superior or because of what it was placed on in it's display. Another problem with those Bose and most Bose is that I'm not willing to pay the price. It was one of the portable Bose that is shaped almost like a camping lantern. I didn't like the look, but the bass, was amazing for a portable.

I kind of like your review but you should check out other Bluetooth speaker reviewers here on TH-cam and learn a few things.
A DB meter that close to such a small speaker means that the listeners ear would be in the same proximity and actually care how loud it is?
    No...
Also, the announcing what your review is about, is redundant to the obvious title of the clip.
You don't sound super happy, or stoked on these speakers. So keep at it & cheer up!

Is there a law that states that if you make a Bluetooth speaker review video that you must play terrible music in it? Does anyone ever do one of these Bluetooth speaker reviews with music that does not suck? Everyone single one is identical. Where in the hell did millennials acquire their taste in music? Do you go to the keyboard demos at Guitar Center and rock out to the noobs who have never played sitting there bang on the keys? The music played in these reviews would make Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc. throw up in their own mouths if they had the misfortune of hearing it. You millennials had better be careful, this type of noise has been proven to give people ear cancer.

Royalty free music as it turns out is kinda shitty, but the idea isn't to play good music. It's to give you an idea of the different ranges of sounds the speakers can produce. Which the royalty free music does well enough, Mozart or whatever would not represent a good range of sounds (lows, mids, highs, bass, treble).
