    Prior to the first church schism which took place in 1054 A.D., the church was One under the leadership of the Bishops: Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople, Rome and Alexandria. In essence, Rome broke away (called the Great Schism) in 1054, where the beginnings of Roman Catholicism began. This is historical information, and is available for anyone who wishes to study. The remaining Bishops became the Eastern Orthodox Church and Rome became Roman Catholic Church.

    The Orthodox do not question Peter's importance and role as leader of the Apostles. Peter did not have sole authority over the Apostles, since there were all equal in eyes of the Lord. The issue is papal universal authority, a political move begun by the Frank's involvement in Rome and further accelerated by the ultramontanism movement within the Latin church. Rome departed from the synodal form of church government.

    I’m currently attending a modern mass. I’ve my conversion about 6 years now. Our Lord has revealed to me some informations about the modern Catholic has been changed. From his guidance I’ve learned about the first mass was said in Greek so I did some research. And so I understand a little about the beginning of Christian. A very small part. And my heart long to know the truth and so our Holy Spirit had led me to listen to your TH-cam. According to our Lord’s guidance I think this’s it. But I need to know more so I’m going to search for your TH-cam to see if I can learn more. Thank you. Please pray for me to know the true mass. Thank you.

    @PapalSoldier Per history, Peter appointed Linus as the first bishop of Rome. There exists no record of Peter as bishop of Rome. Rome makes this claim because he was martyred there. For your info, the church in Antioch celebrates the fact of Peter's chair in that city.

  • @johnpfmcguire
    @johnpfmcguire 11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Technically, there was already a church at Rome when Peter got in. So the Roman Church, unlike the Antiochian, was substantially not built on Peter.

    St. Peter spent most of his life in Antioch, where he was the presiding Bishop. In the development of Christian Doctrine and practice, the Eastern Popes/Patriarchs, ("Pope": a title of honor for a Bishop) Fathers, and Saints were the predominant theological voices in the Church, e. g., St Cyril, St. Irenaeus, St. Athanhasius, St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory of Nazianzus, St John Chrysostom, St. Gregory Palamas. The romish claims to hegemony are false, as is the philosophic scholasticism of the west in its attempt to supersede spiritual typology/hermeneutics of the Holy Fathers with philosophic/cerebral analysis. As St. Mark of Ephesus has said "I surmise that the doctrines of the latins are corrupt.....there is no compromise in the Holy Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Faith". Thank you, Father Gillquist, for your eloquent presentation of the One Holy Orthodox Apostolic Faith. Finding The New Testament Church : Fr Peter Gillquist

    John 20:22: "He breathed on (all of) them : 'Receive the Holy Spirit: whose sins you forgive they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained". St. Bede confirms this as apostles' understanding in his commentary. In Matt 16:23 "Get thee behind me, Satan!" was spoken to Peter since he took the side of the enemy of Christ, Satan. So, he cannot be the head of any group as we see (Acts 15) Jerusalem Council: Peter and Paul both there, St. James presiding as bishop of Jerusalem.

    The Antiochian Orthodox Church should be the "New Rome" and the "New Constantinople." Antiochians came before Russians because Antioch was the second Patriarchal Center. Russia came way later.

    When I was a Baptist I was looking to become an Orthodox Catholic but the papacy kept getting in the way. It took me 5 years to leave the Baptist church and 2 more to became a Catholic form the Roman Rite. My Priest was a othr-Catholic and became Catholic also from the Roman Rite, After Becoming Catholic in 2000 my ex Baptist Pastor also came in with all his Family (wife,kids,mother,father bothers,sisters, and 180 people. He is now almost a Catholic Priest and so is his Dad. God bless.

    It is a big issue that may never be worked out. From my understanding(and everyone has a different one becaues there is so much conflicting primary sources on the topic)Photius was excommunicated and then recanted and was reinstated.Then though he forged a letter from the Pope that gave authority for the rejection of the filioque. When Rome found out about this they excommunicated him again. This is probley must fitting seeing as how Rome and Constant did not reconcile untill long after Photius

    In Scripture Peter was not called pope, the prince of the apostles, chief shepherd or head of the church. The only offices spoken of in scripture: Eph 4:11 & 1 Tim. 3 - apostle, prophets, evangelist, shepherds and teachers, overseer (bishop), deacon. Peter was called an apostle and servant (1 Pet 1:1/2 Pet 1:1) & fellow presbyter (1 Pet 5:1). I do understand how important customs are to us, but truth must ring true. Matt 8:14; Titus 1:1-6; Acts 10:25-26; John 20:21-23. Enjoy God's Word.

    You're projecting your own cult status into everyone else! If you read the entire session here, the Roman legates wrote this up about their own .. ONly the papacy believes in Primacy of Peter. Orthodox Christians believe in the Holy Spirit as Head of Christ's Church - Who is the Vicar of Christ. Read, study and learn.

    St. Cyril might have called him such, however, Jesus did not; nor did any other apostle address Peter in such manner. It sounds like you are a Roman Catholic, and I pray God's blessing be with you. If you want Peter to be the pope, then for you that is what he will be. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; and may God's love flow fully in your life.

    @mishakol129 That is really interesting, since there is a great drive for Orthodox Unity. The Joint Commission has been at resolving the issues between Eastern & Oriental Orthodoxy for over 40 yrs, and yet there is still division. Apart from doctrinal matters, others reasons are power & money. Large sums of money are sent from the Orthodox Churches in the USA to the "mother" churches overseas. In the USA they strive to be autocephalous (self-governing).

    There are easily 2,000 different protestANT denominations in existence today, with between 3 to 10+ more popping up every day somewhere in America alone each one claiming and declaring they are right and everyone else is wrong. Non-denominational is simply another protestANT denomination. Check out the Orthodox Churches of America.

    Why are the churches obeying government restrictions due to the covid “pandemic”? Why are some churches not doing Eucharist? Why are masks forced in order to worship? I recently just got chrismated but these things are bothering me. Isn’t the true Church of God suppose to be different and not compromise the faith? Seems like we fear a flu more than trust in Christ’s words. Idk it’s just troubling to me. Idk what to make of all of it. Trying to discern and let the Spirit guide me. Anyone have any input who has been in the Church for a long time?

    St Peter received God's revelation to the human heart when it was revealed to him that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.A few verses down in the same chapter, The Son Of God is calling St Peter satan. I conclude the Rock the Church is built upon is God's revelation to the human heart. Most pro-lifers have had this revelation, but none of us are claiming absolute authority over all Christendom. The church is not built upon the authority of the Papacy, rather the opposite. Our hearts are the Rock.

It is because of the degree of his faith that Peter, the most exalted of the Apostles, heard these words from the very mouth of Our Lord: ‘Peter, lovest thou Me? Feed My sheep’. This is why he possesses among the hierarchs preeminent rank and the first See" ~ St Methodius

    Dear brother, you are right: this group has brought a papal/protestant understanding into the Faith -tragically. They did not have the humility to be taught as I said before. They remind me of RCatholic priests (i.e. bellicose, twirling their cross in their hand, ignoring women as is usual in evangelical Augustinians). The End Times have brought these tares into the wheatfields to test those in the Holy Faith - so that they will be strong in the face of these heretics and their ilk.

    Christians do the Will of God, which is stated plainly in the responses of Jesus Christ to temptations from the devil. We do not serve ourselves, live for bread alone, or tempt God. This obedience maintains spiritual life in all 3 relationship that contain spiritual life, God to man, man to man, and man's physical to his spiritual nature. Spiritual life is required to receive Eternal Life. If you serve yourself, live for bread alone, and tempt God, you desolate all spiritual life in the human soul. This is abomination of desolation. Done in the Holy Place, by rev 13 vs 13 ( Holy Sepulcher), it is time to flee. God will launch a total war against the beast, because of temptation, in the Holy Place, where it ought not to be. Let the reader understand.

  • @JudithMatta
    @JudithMatta 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since EOC doesn't know this: we don't follow legalisms of any of the councils. We follow the directions of the All-Holy Spirit's understanding of the application of these councils. Otherwise, the council of Florence would be in effect. Pharisees never see the Light of Christ since they are trapped by their own befuddlements. For any "law" one can find the opposing "law" - follow instead the understanding of the entire Orthodox Church with councils confirmed by Laity not just clergy.

  • @JudithMatta
    @JudithMatta 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the EOC became "Orthodox" or so they said. One of their priests presents papist doctrines (i.e."Apostolic Succession through laying on of hands") as if they were Orthodox. They were directed by their bishop to continue studies in the Faith; those I know have not..so far. Many are arrogant, dismissive of other Orthodox, and pompous like the Protestants they still are. I know of some among them who are good priests - I just haven't met them.

  • @CATHOLICFORLIFE2000

    Jesus started one Church and that was the Catholic Church with Bishops and Peter was the main Bishop and since he was Martyred in Rome that became the a Holy place since Rome was the worse pagan place in the world, God wanted to get Christianity to Rome and convert Romans and have them stop worshiping the Empire. Many Different Orthodox churches claim that the Roman Rite (Roman Catholic Church) broke from them, question: Did the Orth-Churches ever have Popes? NO, There were many Popes by 1054.

  • @JudithMatta
    @JudithMatta 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Evidently, you have difficulty discerning the difference between Orthodox doctrine and RC teachings?

  • @JudithMatta
    @JudithMatta 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holy Tradition is the problem with this group - and of course, humility to be taught. I've heard one arrogant priest say that Apostolic Succession is "given" by laying on of hands. This is the papal teaching.d. If Protestants "adopt" robes of priests and outer trappings without the teachings of our Holy Faith, we have Roman Catholicism since protestants are Augustinian and will bring this pan-heresy philosopher into their "Orthodox" understanding.
