I was a young adult convert to the Roman Catholic Church. Later, after marrying and having our first child (baptized RC), I came across an article in the local paper (Minneapolis-St. Paul) about a Lutheran pastor who converted to Orthodoxy, and I felt (the Holy Spirit, no doubt) the overwhelming need to talk to this man. Long story short, I started attending Intro to Orthodoxy talks at the Cathedral of the Holy Protection (St. Mary's) in Minneapolis (OCA). Like you, Father, I knew fully that I'd found the truth, and gradually felt the Spirit's urging to convert; my husband said his parents "will get used to it". I went to confession with our Catholic priest about my experience, and he said, "Oh, you don't want to get involved with the Orthodox - they're just a bunch of feuding factions." Last time I set foot in that church. I knew I truly was Orthodox.
Oh, Rebecca! Good for you! GLORY TO GOD! I have dear friends at St. Mary's. Met them in sthrn CA. The father, son, and daughter used to sing in the choir. Am not sure what is happening now. My husband and i watched ST. MARY'S all the time during the lockdown and afterwards.. I still do.. at least i watch some and sing along with the choir and almost always hear the homily and forward links to it.. I think you are in very good hands there.. I assume you know the story of St. Alexis Toth.. I many ways rather applicable to your story. CHRIST is RISEN! What a joy to read your comment. ☦💝📿💝☦
Father Seraphim's description of encountering the True Church resonates with me. I remember thinking if I were to find the Church of the Apostles the question would no longer be "do they agree with me" but rather "do I agree with them". Everything else he said is also gold.
I drink beer everyday after work, I know it's a sin and I have prayed to please let the Lord Jesus help me in this. I have so many horrible childhood memories of abuse. I know the alcohol is only a bandaid on a gaping wound. But the words pick myself up by my bootstraps is way easier said than done. Still I worship everyday and pray everyday that one day I will have the courage to be a better person. 😔
Don’t get discouraged brother, remember that God will always provide sufficient grace for you to overcome any difficult position you find yourself in. Although difficult, it’s absolutely not impossible and therefore you must pick yourself up time and time again and keeping fighting to overcome.
First time watching something like this before in a long time im now 30. Ive been through many different strife in life, and felt pain, just like anyone else rape, assault, mental health, money woe, not feeling like I truly belong, not feeling like the world is correct, wondering my true purpose wanting to forgive the people who raped me, life has been just as life is. Im learning and realising how much brain washing and evil was placed before me, and I'm trying my best to find god and start my journey through healing to his love and light. My mother always instilled his love and glory, I just ignored it. I rebelled against the most high, being confused and hurt with the devils control, and this just concretes my feelings. Thank you Jesus. Thank you lord. I am working through my sins and will repent and ask for forgiveness. Please whomever sees this and feels his love, pray for me brother and sisters. And I will do the same for us all. Blessings and love to all. Amen.

This was so excellent. Everytime I hear these teachings, I want to come to the Orthodox Church. I am reading a lot, yet also aware of my own passions that need cleaning up. Sometimes I fear that I might focus so much on my faults that I miss the simple joys of just living lightly. But the bible says, that come to Christ that your joy may be full! John 15:11.

This is Eastern Orthodox Church channel and you are Monophysite heretics who should not be calling yourself "orthodox" as there is nothing Orthodox in your heretical faith. You have been condemned at the 4th Ecumenical Council and ever since you live stubbornly in your heresy. Pity.
The teachings of the Orthodox Church are much like that of the 1st churches. Everything he is saying lines up so perfectly with the church described in Paul’s epistles, the letters from Peter, the letters from John, and the letters from James.
@@tinakarras7571I’m non denominational. But the orthodox church is about growing in relationship with God by becoming like him. Working with the Holy Spirit to advance us in the process of sanctification rather than staying still or regressing. All while understanding that love fulfills the whole law and Gods grace is enough.
Once read that…. Our Spirit has been saved from the penalty of sin (death, hell, eternal separation from God) Our soul (will, intellect, and emotion) is being saved from the power of Sin (sanctification) Our body (the flesh) will one day be saved from the presence of sin.
What he says about Judas is great. He did love God. Just as many of us do, we still sin and betray God. Some of us do it even more than Judas and betray God on a daily basis.
Thank you father. I am EO and I was pentecostal long ago. I dont know american churches but for me it sounds very strange that they do not teach holy life in other churches in america. Becouse in my country pentecostals focus lot in holy life. When I was pentecostal I was trying to live very ascetic life and tried to live holy life. I did not alow for myself worldly hobbies and I always thought that real christians need to sell everything had and give them to poor people. I tried to dedicate my life Lord fully. But later on I started to loose that zeal and I started to learn about church history and orthodoxy. Later on I joined my native orthodox church. But honestly i need to say that I did not become any better than I was. I dont hear teaching about holy life. When i was pentecostal i had zeal and i wanted to serve Lord in church and help other people know christ. Now when i am EO it seems that there is no purpose in my life. it seem i need to just give few minutes in a day to prayers and do fastings and live life just like secular people. i use to think i want to dedicate my life to missionary work and I did. I went to one islamic country and i lived there for years learning the language. Now when i am orthodox i cannot do missionart work and i cannot go back to that country that i sacrificed my youth for. I tried to speak with my priest but he is very busy and i think he misunderstood me. He thinks i want to be something special. I dont want to be anything special. I just want to have meaning in life. I really have deep feeling in my heart that i should go back to that country and continue life there. But as an orthodox it seems i cannot do that since orthodox believers cannot do missionary work. I even have lost good relations to my parents and siblings becouse I need to think they are heretics. I have been deeply depressed since i became orthodox. I would appreciate if you would have any thoughts about this. Thank you father.
God has brought you to Orthodoxy? Ask yourself why! Have you obedience to a Spiritual Father or Mother? May Saint John of Shanghai and San Francisco, Seraphim of Sarov, Gabriel of Georgia, pray to God for you. Have you placed yourself to try the monastic life? Ask, seek ... You will not find your way ... Live the life and CHRIST will be your life ... Sing the hymns, pray for everyone you meet ... if you enter into the struggle with them there is no room for depression and self seeking. Find peace and thousands around you will have peace (St Seraphim of Sarov)

That deep feeling is the Holy Spirit, it is written (Mark 16:15). Don't concern yourself with whether "this is the true church" or "that one is the true church," that was written too, (Mark 9:38-39). It will take great courage from your part and you will be risking your life to bring the Gospel to the Muslims because the elites of those countries need the legitimacy of a false prophet to keep their tyrannical grip on the population. You will most likely suffer in this mission like the apostles did, but your purpose will be clear and your mission in this world would be accomplished. Our Father will reward you with greater riches in Heaven that you could ever have on this fallen earth, it is written (Matthew 5:12).
@@Kaytee-miow thank you for you comment. I really appreciate it. I have spiritual father and i do ask his guidance. But as i said he is very busy and very seldom i have opportunity to talk with him. I just cannot talk about my problematic situation with him very well becouse he has so little time. I understand becouse he really has lot to do. I try to go liturgies but even there i find myself depressed becouse i see there very young people and i feel me too i tried to dedicate my whole life to Lord when i was in their age but i was in heretical church so i wasted my life. But i did not ask to born in Pentecostal family. And yes I know you are right i should be showing love to my family BUT it is opposite. I think I already ruined it. They have seen me deeply depressed and bitter for years now. And my mother even said to me that if she would see anything good in my life ever since i became orthodox she would maybe think about what i say about faith. But becouse she sees that i have became only deeply deppressed and bitter for life she cannot think i am in the right road. Its very hard for me to explain. I did not even find a wife in my life becouse i was trying only to serve Lord denying my self and now i feel i am already too old. Please pray for me if you remember me in your prayers. I was just praying i feel peace of God in prayer but other than that life seems only darkness.
@@chungusmaximus526 thank you for you thoughts. I was living seven years in one islamic country and I learned their language. Yes there were some religous people hating me and even said they will kill me. But i did not scare them. I matter of fact i did not have any fear. I think it was from the Lord. Also i did live in very poor conditions just like locals. But i love ascetic life and dont like to live in luxury. Now in my homecountry i feel my self always depressed and meaningless. Life is save and calm here and materialistic but i feel emptiness. Honestly sometimes i wonder should i just return to that country but i cannot understand how could i do that as an orthodox. And if i would not be orthodox then i dont see any apostolic church and i dont know how could i share a gospel if i dont know the gospel.
My goal is not to criticise but this verse came to mind regarding „asceticism“: Colossians 2:18 „Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind,“
Wouldn’t that statement be a criticism of the legalism of the Pharisees? He did explain the asceticism of the Orthodox Church is not an endeavor of legalism
Isaiah 14:12-14 [12]How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13]For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14]I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
It is not a question of choosing the most adapted religion BUT to follow Christ Jesus and make him the master of our life. Orthodoxy is the same as any other religion, it is not perfect, it can be idolatry with its gold, rituals and appearance. The church is not a building but The body of Christ and everyone who accepts Jesus and follow him belongs to this body. That is why the first disciples were called « Christians » and not Catholics, Protestants or Orthodoxes. On the other side I agree with what this man says about salvation. He really loves Jesus.
I see, so confession is a healing process. It's that people still hold onto that sin, that guilt rather than just letting the past be the past. Am i understanding this, right?
I met the Lord in 1959 and since that time He has shown me how to carve Prophetic Sculptures based on dreams that I have (i never carved a sculpture before this time). The "Ring Of Fire" (logo) was a dream where I saw my arm joined to the Holy Spirit and we were touching the Horn of God (Power). Let me know what you think.
I greatly appreciate your testimony of the gospel of Christ. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life, you are helping me appreciate even more the teachings and encouragements I received during my lifetime. Repentance, fasting, loving God and your neighbor, confession, given what you can to God, allowing God to transform you, and overcoming your passions to be more like God. Thank you for sharing this.

This man is incredibly good at shining a light on so many IMPORTANT truths❤❤❤❤❤Thank you, Father Seraphim

Father Seraphim's description of encountering the True Church resonates with me. I remember thinking if I were to find the Church of the Apostles the question would no longer be "do they agree with me" but rather "do I agree with them". Everything else he said is also gold.
Благослови всех Господь☦May the Lord bless you all, and thanks for the video
Fantastic priest
Christ is Risen ☦️
Indeed He is Risen 🙏
Thank-you & God bless you, Fr. Seraphim, for your teaching!!
Beautiful message🕯️
The one true holy catholic and apostolic church ❤
This has come at the perfect time for me. Thank you Father Seraphim Holland ☦️
We can't do this alone bro, we need Christ, you have beer, I have cigarettes and some one have porn, we need the cross.
Drinking beer everyday isn’t a sin. Getting drunk every day would be sinful
@@AhFahted
I think that allowing anything or any substance to replace our Christ is the sin.
Drunkenness is sin not alcohol consumption
Thank you for sharing the more i hear about orthodoxy the more i love.
Fr. Serphim explains repentance so simple, one can really see the years of experience. God bless this spiritual Father. 🙏 ☦️❤️
Amen.
Praying for you. I was homosexual too. God saved me from there. God bless you.
@Prbbly_nt1015 ❤️❤️🫂 praying for you to, blessings always 🙏🏼 amen
I’m so sorry you have gone through such hardships and horrible things done to you.
@barefootcleaners that's so kind thank you, don't feel sorry for me. Jesus came to me in my darkest times and that I can't ever replace ❤️🫂 blessings and love to u too
Thank you father
Thank you father! Greetings from Orthodox Bulgaria 🇧🇬☦️🙏
The examples this father gave were so beautiful and enlightening. I had it all wrong 😂☦️
I am an Orthodox catechumen. I feel like everything I have ever known as a Methodist or a Catholic has prepared me for the journey that I am on.

I've been born and raised Orthodox in Romania. I admire your work, I enjoy these discussions with priests from US. I find it interesting and wonderful how indeed God loves everyone and wants to save everyone of us, by doing miracles everyday. May God bless u !
Im out of the country right now and I’ve been away from my church. TH-cam videos like these are so valuable. Thank you Father
Wow... I'm so happy to have found this channel... resonates tremendously.
I very much benefited from these analogies. Thank you so much.
Lord.Have mercy on me, a sinner.
Thank you Father Seraphim, praying for you, your family & most importantly, your beautiful Daniel. ☦️
Thank you father, from Ethiopian Orthodox.
Christ is Risen!
This message is a message that speaks to me.
Thank you Fr. Seraphim Holland.
Thank you Roots of Orthodoxy.
Truly He is Risen!☦️
This was so excellent. Everytime I hear these teachings, I want to come to the Orthodox Church. I am reading a lot, yet also aware of my own passions that need cleaning up. Sometimes I fear that I might focus so much on my faults that I miss the simple joys of just living lightly. But the bible says, that come to Christ that your joy may be full! John 15:11.
From a child to Syriac orthodox parents and grandparents: GOD BLESS THIS PRIEST AND THE ORTHODOX CHURCH IN AMERICA AND ALL OVER THE WORLD ☦️
Christiany started in Anatolia, Syriacs was among if not the first Christians . The orthodox church have been persucated in that part of the world for so long even until today.
God bless you all
Your devotion is inspiring; but is it not the case that the first formal church of Christianity was the nestorians in Ethiopia?
@@elkpants1280well their not infallible the coptics split away, church of alexandria and all that, they would be in the same church but they split away early. Like at the council of chalcedon

Wow. There is so much instruction and wisdom packed into this short and powerful video. God bless Fr. Seraphim and God bless this channel for presenting so much instruction and wisdom from all of these Priests, including one from the parish I attend.
This is my favorite Orthodox Christianity channel. God bless you all!
Thank you father Seraphim!
This guy is spot on
Brilliant and gifted teacher. Thank you Fr Seraphim❤
This is one of the most important videos on the Internet.
Such a good definitive and convicting description of true Christianity. Thank you so much xxx
Thank you father. My dad was the same. He was all roads lead to God really. Very tough upbringing with severe emotional abuse, but hyper hypocrisy.
This was amazing. It really put my struggle with sin in perspective
Thank you so much for sharing this video. With prayers from Russia. God bless you all!

Thank you for your talk, Father. I really needed to hear this today!
Lots more at @orthodoxnet.
Priest Seraphim Holland
great job father , much needed video
Why you call him father?
Doesn't the Bible says don't call anyone father? In the book of Matthew?
Why you call him father?
That’s was a flawless explanation. WOW you spoke like an angel! 🔥
thank you Fr Seraphim Holland for sharing with us, also i hope Roots of Orthodoxy has a chance to interview Fr Nicholas Park! i love watching all his preaching on Orthodoxnet channel
One of the best videos to date. So relatable! ☦️🙏🏼
This talk is such a blessing
Enlightening discussion.
Thanks ❤
Wow. This was eye opening. “There’s not one legal rule in orthodox”. It’s about healing.
I am a great Sinner I repent everyday
Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a Sinner
This is so powerful and true testimony of the christian orthodox. As an orthodox i agréé with him. Praised be the Holly Spirit because he is our strenght and happiness. I have anyway a mention to do: not all catholic churches are the same. Many of them are doing fasting and prayer. I agréé that salvation is forgiveness and healing. May Lord Jésus Christ help us walk with him daily and help us have good purpose for our soul. And for the souls. Ame one more thing: Jesus gave saints in both churches : orthodox and catholic. So we are brothers 😊🌿🙏
27:00 ❤ gold AND 30:10
(Listening to this twice, as a Protestant, a Christian saved in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, blessed be our Holy Triune Holy God. I love you my brothers & sisters in The sacrificial pure Lamb of the God of Abraham, Moses, Esther & Ruth, David, Mary & Joseph, Elizabeth, of Jesus… ❤ )
Edit for time stamp
Thank you . Vielen Dank
I am so blessed to be Ethiopian Orthodox Christian 🙏🏽❤️ I will be lost without my faith. Thank you Lord🙏🏽
You are not Orthodox. You are Monophysite/Miaphysite heretic.
Cool. Ethiopian Orthodoxy is quite different than the Catholic Orthodox Church
This is Eastern Orthodox Church channel and you are Monophysite heretics who should not be calling yourself "orthodox" as there is nothing Orthodox in your heretical faith. You have been condemned at the 4th Ecumenical Council and ever since you live stubbornly in your heresy. Pity.
Thank you for sharing!
Oh, 'roots', ANOTHER JEWEL OF AN INTERVIEW..
Thank you so much for this video. I have been where he was also. I am looking at the Orthodox faith. God Bless
The teachings of the Orthodox Church are much like that of the 1st churches. Everything he is saying lines up so perfectly with the church described in Paul’s epistles, the letters from Peter, the letters from John, and the letters from James.
@@Brandon-gk1ds can you please show me the similarities because I can't see it.
Thank you for your openess!!
Man this guy is good
Once read that….
Our Spirit has been saved from the penalty of sin (death, hell, eternal separation from God)
Our soul (will, intellect, and emotion) is being saved from the power of Sin (sanctification)
Our body (the flesh) will one day be saved from the presence of sin.
What he says about Judas is great. He did love God. Just as many of us do, we still sin and betray God. Some of us do it even more than Judas and betray God on a daily basis.
18:16 Great wisdom here
Be blessed.

Wonderful. I'm a Jay Dyer fan and now I'm a Post Modern Theology subscriber.
@@elkpants1280Well I guess the verse is about those who insist on asceticism.
I'm orthodox Christian and I didn't know it. Very cool
Wow, my journey is so close to yours.
This was very edifying!
“What good is it to be forgiven if you’re still a sinner?”
I will say, im catholic now. But when I grew up in the protestant Church of Christ, they were definitely about struggling against your sins.
Are you sure? Seems like embracing the life of a rockstar and lining your pockets isn't really struggling against sin…
Isaiah 14:12-14
[12]How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
[13]For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
[14]I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
When you said the difference between the West and East was one talks about healing versus mere light bulb went on for me
This makes so much sense. I hate how denominations split off because they want to do their own thing. No. There is only one way. Follow it!
“If you don’t have a spiritual life, you’re a plaything for the devil” - explains a lot.
This was so insightful. Thank you for this.
"The whole point of being an Orthodox Christian is for illumination, to become perfected and to know God. That's it. That's the whole reason."
Awsome video
It is not a question of choosing the most adapted religion BUT to follow Christ Jesus and make him the master of our life. Orthodoxy is the same as any other religion, it is not perfect, it can be idolatry with its gold, rituals and appearance.
The church is not a building but The body of Christ and everyone who accepts Jesus and follow him belongs to this body. That is why the first disciples were called « Christians » and not Catholics, Protestants or Orthodoxes. On the other side I agree with what this man says about salvation. He really loves Jesus.
Amennnn!!!! Perfectly said
I see, so confession is a healing process.
