Kinda disappointed it's just concrete, but I guess it makes sense. I was hoping for something like cutting/grinding/polishing a rough boulder into an atlas stone.
Yea but they make like 8 for the competitions going from small to large so imagine finding stones big enough and transporting it and then cutting it down and then sanding it round each one would take a week and would be very hard to make and hard to make consistent weights. Vs this they use the same molds making a consistent stone
@@char9550 What type of rock would give you the proper weight? For instance, Indiana limestone is very workable and was used to cover most of the buildings in Washington, D.C., (including the Washington and Lincoln Monuments) and many of the skyscrapers in New York due to its white appearance -- cheaper than white marble.
Hello from north wales,uk. I'm not into sports etc and this video randomly came up in my feed. Just to say it was Interesting. Tempted to import the moulds from you to make the Atlas stones as ornaments for the garden. Thankyou again.
Make sure to save a little concert after it settles a bit or it will compact and leave a gap at the open end of the mold. So pour a little in after it settles.
@K. C.W HA amatuer looking at the instructions on the bag, by the age of 3 I was making my own cement mixtures using nothing but my testosterone and the ingredients which I scavenged for myself.
Watching non construction worker types handling construction materials is really funny. Even this big strong looking dude acts kinda dainty when working with concrete.
I found that if you put your heavy mold into a wide shallow storage bin folled with sand, it will hold a better round shape than sitting it on the ground. Just nestle it into the sand real well
For heavier stones that are the same size. Do they ad a heavier core, like a shot put? it would be interesting to see how that works and what they use.
Yeah usually some sort of shot in the center for heavier stones, and something like styrofoam if you want it to be lighter, but still the bigger diameter.
Commando Master they aren't all the same size they just look very similar because the weight is all evenly distributed throught the stone, so it would be hard to tell that one is bigger unless side by side, and they also add things like metal inside the stones sometimes to make them heavier
What are or what is the name of the fibers he added to the concrete?? and where to get them, it would it be nice a recommended list of materials in the video description
@@grottphd9090 Yeah, but you're talking about an atlas stone that's gonna be dropped all the time. It's gonna fall apart. You could've gotten a good mold with a way dryer mix than he used.

I want to see a 30 min video of how you make the logs. Ive made a few myself but I would like to see a professional video with the tools you use. Other youtube videos about them are pretty simple and doesnt show the details or how to cut out room for the handles and how to attach them. Thank you.

good video. it covers the fundamentals of making stones. -however, it's not to ones advantage to use fibers. +David F well he could lift but maybe not strongman exercises most people dont do these unless they're training for a competition. i lift myself but would never use this XD seems like hell to use but cool as hell that someone could
not sure but looks more like a bag of cement. you could save a few bucks when you make concrete, which means cement, sand, gravel and water. Makes the stone more durable and prevents cracks from volume shrinkage because of the water drying out. An ordinary mix in construction would be 309 kg/m3 cement; 654 kg/m3 sand; gravel with a fraction of 4-16 mm 1197 kg/m3 and clean water 200 kg/m3.
Why didn't he mention conditioning the concrete after you break it out of the mould? Raw concrete is very brittle and you really don't wanna be shaving off bits of concrete every time you lift and breathe in the dust. Get some concrete sealant from a hardware store and finish the stones, please. Its just good for your health and I don't know why they didn't put it in this video.

I swear there is just something extremely enticing about having a heavy ass ball you can roll around
Something about it being made out of concrete too. I don't know I just want to slap it. It's so perfect.
Or just watch lying there, to heavy to even bother touching.
Michel Schweinsberg Right! A good slap on the ass and the good ol’ pick up/put down!
@@MediQate exactly its just the manly thing to do
secure an orbital sander on the side with a ratchet strap, turn it on and it will vibrate all the air out of it.

Or just do what he did.. Its an atlas ball not a rocket lol.
Or use a self compacting concrete mix design a lot stronger without air bubles

Could I make a 2” wide Atlas Stone 🤔
For heavier stones that are the same size. Do they ad a heavier core, like a shot put? it would be interesting to see how that works and what they use.
It's just concrete. Concrete is heavy enough and even 1 more inch in diameter of a sphere is a lot of volume

Would a 5 gallon bucket still work for the 24 inch mold?
How do they get the different weights of the stones? Some are super heavy but the same size.
Commando Master they aren't all the same size they just look very similar because the weight is all evenly distributed throught the stone, so it would be hard to tell that one is bigger unless side by side, and they also add things like metal inside the stones sometimes to make them heavier
It is common to fill the center of some stones with different size Styrofoam balls. This takes up space and changes the weight of the stone.
Or the opposite, and add something like steel or lead weights instead of Styrofoam
Great video, thanks.

Your confusing cement with concrete . . .
It was a concrete bag just not very coarse.
Are these light post globes? They use as a mold.
How long to wait til its ready to use? Concrete generally takes 28 days to fully cure. Can I use it sooner..?
John K. Fedoroff I would imagine you should just wait the 28 days or however long it’s recommended for that specific concrete
How long do they typically take to settle / dry to a point where they’re usable?
From what I’ve gathered and will try, 3 Days in the mold, 3 days out, touch up, wait 1-3 more days, seal it, one more day then test it.
very satisfying
you can see gravel in the mix that he doesn't tell you to put in ?
