I love pure android and I was very excite for the tablet and the phone until I saw the price and then when I checked out the tablet it is way over priced for what you're getting. Sicking to my nexus 5 and 7
Excellent review. The build quality is a little disappointing. Enough so they I'm going to wait for either a price drop as you suggested, or get the Asus ME572C since I like the 7 inch form factor so much anyway. The one thing that really draws me to the HTC products lately is those front facing speakers. I'm hard of hearing and the speakers are useless on the back. I hope other companies follow suit.
You can control the volume from the touch display...don't see why people make so much emphasis on physical buttons...Time for everyone to move past that nonsense!
Good post Tim. Storm had to return 2 Nexus 9s to Amazon because of light-bleed. The ones at Best Buy seemed to be better. Also, the 4:3 sucks. Tablets are best 16:9. Like the game you showed being cut off. If you have a Nexus 10 laying around, you can update it to Lollipop 5.0 from your videos and it will be better. We took our Nexus 9's back. To many negatives and the price is way to much! I got the Samsung Tab S 8.4 and LOVE IT!!

Trying to decide between the nexus 9 and tab s... stock android is always a plus for me as firmware and software will always be up to date and the front facing speakers are a big benefit as well for media consumption, but that aspect ratio is killing me. Sure it makes reading text and pages more natural, but letterboxing on my movies and videos sounds really annoying. Everything about the tab s sounds amazing besides software (touchwiz) and dated processor :/. The screen looks gorgeous but why not compliment that screen with some front facing speakers? Maybe to keep bezel sizes to a minimum, but I've heard touchwiz has been lightened a bit? I have used galaxy phones in the past and touchwiz always felt a bit too heavy IMO
johizzle123 Well all I can say is mine is working great and is even better than the Nexus 9 to be honest. You cannot beat the screen as it looks great and the speakers are better then the 9 if you take the time to adjust the equalizer. If you really want stock android I would get a Nexus 10 on Amazon and then update it using QBKing77 video to Lollypop and I know you will be happier with that then you will the 9. I did just that and it's great!
Glass goes all the way to the edges on this tablet... So if you drop it in any way... Crack there goes your screen. When will manufacturers learn not to run the glass all the way to the edges... And worse... All the way to the corners
I was most disappointed by the build quality for the initial units. This plus the lack of expandable storage made a no brained purchase (love my nexus 7 2013) into a hell no. It is overpriced for the quality and storage options.

I've always been a huge Nexus fan, but to say the Nexus 9 is sub par would be an understatement. High price, garbage build quality, terrible screen, poor battery life, and that awful 4:3 aspect ratio all make this tablet a no go in my opinion. I picked up a Samsung Galaxy tab pro 8.4 for $199 over the holidays, and it destroys this Nexus on every level for half the price
is there a way to use the low battery LED to respond to other notifications? Light Flow doesn't seem to work from what i heard? any other alternatives?
funny thing is, when apple does something similar, nobody even cares. The speakers face the side and are not loud or clear, the screen was reported to distort on the air and people are like- meh.
When the 2013 Nexus 7 came out, people shouted that it's main competition, the mini ipad was better. In defense of the Nexus 7 it was brought to the attention of all the fanboys, that the screen ratio was so efficient, that watching movies on on the 2013 Nexus was exactly halfway between viewing them on the mini ipad, and the ipad. Combining the viewing size of the ipad, with the portability of the mini ipad. A win for the superior designed Nexus line. In 2014 HTC throws out the "superior design" that people liked, and opts to waste screen real estate by using a 4 by 3 ratio screen. What on earth were they thinking? Why can't Google [Nexus] have the "target consumers" "design" the next Nexus?
Tim, I just bought this tablet, but I rooted right away and now cannot update to 5.0.1. I've looked all over the internet and can't find an understandable explanation for how to make this work. Help!
