    There was an update to the software to 3.5.4 and the latency was reported to be much more improved. I would be keen to know if you test again what speed you get with the latest software. Thanks!

    Thank you for your detailed review. I am an e-ink reader enthusiast from China, and your review is far better than the so-called "reviews" on Chinese social media that are often filled with praise for new products after receiving sponsorship from manufacturers.
    Boox has not released a frontlight-free model like the Go10.3 in China, but there are two Chinese brands, Hanwang and IReader, that also offer frontlight-free e-ink readers. The latest models are the Hanwang N10 Pro and the IReader Smart 5 Pro, both featuring 10.3-inch screens with 300ppi.
    The Hanwang N10 Pro not only lacks a frontlight but also doesn't have a touch layer (it can only be used with a stylus), so theoretically, it has the whitest background.
    The IReader Smart 5 Pro, on the other hand, is said to feature the new Carta 1300 screen, which has more sharper black text and a flexible screen.

    The original Onyx Boox Go 10.3 pen holds very well on the Tab Mini C. So magnets in the pen
    are strong enough, the problem is more the thin profile of the device. Personally I've swapped the ReMarkable 2 for the Onyx boox Go 10.3 and I'm really satisfied. Thank you so much great review!

      Hi, did you get your Boox? Is the latency really bad as indicated in this review? Does 17ms from Supernote vs 33ms from Boox make a noticeable difference?

    • @Xingqiwu387
      @Xingqiwu387 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SpikedSilver Yes, we received the Boox and returned it the next day. Our problem was the file management system. With the Supernote, you can work on highly confidential documents and never have to upload them to "the cloud" and instead simply plug in a USB-C thumb drive and save your work there. With the Boox, this is not possible. Since our company does not allow for the storage of any confidential files in cloud servers, this was the deal-breaker. The latency itself wasn't so bad, and in terms of hardware, we were impressed by the Boox. But we're sticking with the Supernote and are now waiting for the A4 version to come out.

    Hi Voja, I love your videos and your scientific approach. I wonder if there is a method to measure the "brightness" of devices (with frontlight off, of course, for those that have it) compared to paper, so that you can have graphs similar to the ones you post (D.E.S.T.A. test and Friction compared to paper test). It would be one more element to evaluate the characteristics of the various products. I would be pleased to hear what you think

    However the notetaking options are the single most omportant thing to me. Does this have any feature like SNs digest that lets me cut sections from tons of different pdfs, let me notate over those selections, and build them into a single notebook to work from (as well as paste them i to other notebooks) as well as link directly back to the pdfs they were cut from originally?

    Great review!! Your commentary is very helpful. I have bought the Boox Go 10.3 a few days ago and I really like it compared to the Boox Note Air 3C device. The writing is so crisp even though it doesn't have front light. The only thing is I can't seem to make the highlighting work in this device as it covers up the writing. I don't have this problem in Supernote.

    • @SpikedSilver
      @SpikedSilver 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Has the latency improved with the new software update? How do you compare it to the Supernote? Which do you prefer using?

    • @dorishsiao688
      @dorishsiao688 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ The latency is not an issue. I'm on firmware 3.5.4 - the latest firmware 4 for the new Boox devices are not yet available for existing devices. For pure notetaking I prefer Supernote. The screen for Boox Go is a bit more slippery compared to Supernote, even though I've tried different pens and pen tips. I also miss the features like gestures, highlighting, headings, keywords and star in Supernote. Therefore I use Supernote for notetaking, to do functions. There are more use cases on Boox which is the reason why I got it, so I can do more things like read PDF on a bigger screen and also access the apps. One of the purpose for using both is to help my eyes and reduce eye strain.

    I have a question about Go 10.3 for reading PDFs: I am in the market for my first eink tablet and will mainly be using mine for reading and annotating PDFs, epubs and Word documents. I have narrowed my choice down to the Go 10.3 and NA3. I like the sleek design and display of the 10.3 but I don't like the way the screen seems to flash (refresh?) when I see people turning pages on PDFs on TH-cam reviews. Given that I am new to this area and have never used one in person I am not sure if I have the language down to describe my concern but I saw on a another video on this channel comparing the NA3 and NA3c and Voja was able to mostly get rid of the flashing that happened by enabling the speed mode on the NA3. Is that possible on the Go 10.3? Thanks in advance!

    I broke down (gave up waiting for the SN A5X2) and bought a GO 10.3 and it arrived late yesterday. So far I am pleased with my decision and impressed with the device. Learning how to navigate the BOOX/Android UI will take some time, but I’ve already found some benefits within it. Anyway, I was playing with some different styluses and discovered a unique phenomenon and wonder if you have. If I write some text in the 5 different pen types: ballpoint (8), brush pen (5), (fountain) pen (11), marker (15) and pencil (2) with the standard BOOX stylus and then do the same with the Scribe premium stylus I get a similar look for the ballpoint, brush pen and marker, but a much thinner stroke with fountain pen & pencil using the Scribe. Any idea why this would be?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, it is the calibration and quality of the pressure sensitivity driver within the pen itself. Kindle Scribe pen is of a much better quality, and has a different pressure sensitivity curve than the default pen from Boox. As such, it offers a much more usable pressure range.

    Thank you for the great review. I am loving the 10.3. First boox device for me. Also have the a5x and a6x2. Making this my daily driver right now. As you said it's for those with a specific use case scenario. I am using it to read and study while writing on on my RM2. I need the large screen to read with due to my old eyes. I have had this for a few weeks and still learning things. I also like writing on it which i do when writing casually. Will probably sell the a6x2 eventually just because the small screen doesn't meet my needs. Thanks again for this. Currently the only thing i an having trouble with is trying to figure out how to print from the device itself with A5 side paper. When trying to print from the device it gives me a choice to pick size of paper i am using but currently can only get it to print in letter. I am sure it's something I am doing wrong. wish more was told about lack of frontlight and how it impacts usagel limits of usage inside rooms with typical (not great) lighting or with external lighting that is not directly shining on the screen; can't see it in the chapters - i think there should be separate chapter on this topic; I personally cant use my Note Air1 without frontlight during the day inside the room with natural light; cause natural light just do not shine inside bright enough; similar with artificial ceiling lighting; so for me no frontlight is only good when used outside or inside very close to the window with the device directed at the window so that sun can shine directly on it; otherwise the contrast is just too bad; so im wondering whether Boox Go would have the same problems

    Hello! A quick question, if I may… how grey and dim is the tablet’s screen compared to a plain sheet of white paper? I ask because on most reviews for e-ink tablets without backlighting, the screen appears quite brighter than I’ve found to be the case. I’d purchased a Remarkable 2 shortly after it was released and returned it because the screen was a much darker grey colour than it appeared on the ad, and I’ve seen several Remarkable 2’s since then whose screens all look the same as the one I bought. Thanks in advance!

I own dasung paperlike of the first generation (2015) and it has lighter background than paperlike of the last generation. It is laggy, of course, sometimes it disconnects, but still more comfortable to look at. Good contrast and light background are so important for e-ink.

    This device is sooo enticing. As are the features hopefully coming in the Supernote A5X.
    I’m going to need to replace my reMarkable 2 at some point…which to choose!!?! 🤔
    My primary use case is for note taking.
    I wonder how many of the things Boox introduced with this device that reMarkable was planning as a “big release” with their reMarkable 3? And wonder if reMarkable is now scrambling on how to market their next reMarkable device, or if there will be one.

    • @MyDeepGuide

      I honestly don't know, but they have to do something meaningful, both on the hardware and software side of things, in order to be competitive. It shouldn't take too much, because the platform already has a good focus, and a big community, so all they need to do is listen to the community and play to their strengths.
      Unfortunately, update 3.12 has shown that they aren't doing any of that, so hopefully this device is something that will force them to reevaluate decisions that led to the platform regressions we've seen introduced with that update.

      copy a small handful of features from boox/supernote - links/headers etc mainly, handwriting search would be a bonus - should be doable in software ‘relatively’ easily even on RM2. But they seem focused on the analog/digital thing and simplicity above all so maybe they aren’t interested in bringing features like that?

    I have the tablet (Boox Go 10.3) for a week, once fully charged from 24% to 100% and now I can feel how the adhesive under the leather back has apparently come loose: It makes noises when I press on it and I can also feel a slight bump when I run my hand over it. Against the light I can see a slight unevenness on the gray metal strip on the back. Minimal, but its there. Very hard to make a photo of it. However it lies flat on the table and doesn't wobble so it's most probably not the battery that has somehow inflated. 😕

    This regression in writing latency is a great pity. They had done so well with the Note Air 3 C but then things only went backwards again. This confirms my assumption at the time that the extra GPU (BSR) played a major role in the low writing latency on the NA3C. If only it weren't for the enormous battery consumption...

      Weird that my comment about watching yoga and meditation videos disappeared.
      I have dumb phone to reduce my screen time. This is why I use my eink device for guided meditations and yoga. Boox Palma was great for that use because of the BSR, but otherwise it was pretty buggy (apps crashing etc.) and of course, small.
      This is why I was interested in the video performance. But I saw a video about it elsewhere, and the performance is surprisingly good.
      Eink devices can be great for consuming videos with information mainly on the audio track (speeches, lectures, tutorials etc.).

    I'm delighted with my Boox Go 10.3 After being with it for a couple of weeks now, I'm seeking to improve the writing experience with different pen nibs. The Boox tips that come with the box are quite hard and tippy tappy without being scratch (gel pen/glassy feel), but the ones that come with the Staedler noris digital jumbo are a little too soft and silky(very little feedback). I'm after a Goldilocks nib somewhere in between, that feels more like a pencil.
    The best writing experience I had was nova air C with a doodroo screen and a titanium-nibbed staedler noris digital, so it might be that I need to explore a different screen protector to get the effect that I want. Welcome replies with recommendations.

      You can use a combination of naming single pages (and then viewing thumbnails) and keywords/tags, but if you need a more direct way to access pages/parts of a notebook you could also employ links between pages and create an overview page at the start of each notebook, for example. As much as I like the heading function on my Nomad, I do miss naming specific pages there.

    We bought the Boox GO 10.3 but had to return it. When we tried to transfer our work in NOTES from the Boox onto a USB-C thumb driver and onto an SD card attached through the same port hub, there was NO option to do so. NOTES will not allow you to save, export, or copy anything onto the external drive, even though both the thumb drive and the SD card were recognized by the Boox device itself. THAT is a deal-breaker.

    Abt 52:00 | The typing experience on keyboards:
    * Correct me , if I am wrong, but the speed and precision looks , to me, the same , when you were testing with bluetooth keyboard versus this OTG-based mechanical ? I mean the Boox display was showing the characters with the same speed, is it? (Of course, typing on physical keyboard overall would give different experience, it's a matter of taste, but just about displaying that all on this Go 10.3, it would be not make the difference)

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Of course it is, as the bottleneck will always be the e-ink screen refresh speed, so any difference between wireless or wired input will never be perceptible, as the screen refresh speed will be slower than either of the two.
