Mrvideosandgames rechargeable batteries back then for the most part sucked major ass, I had a few different brands, and even had a couple of rechargeable paks for my GameGear(official and unofficial), and unless you drained them too dead flat every single time you charged them(also did not do it at least 1 time a month) sense they where mostly(rarely led acid) NIMH Nickel Metal Hydride batteries they would build up memory on them, and last less, and less. Thank GOD these days for Li-ion batteries.

I agree. I was planning to get the 3DS this year after I saw all the new games for it, but then I saw that they were going to release the New 3DS with FAR superior 3D effects and memory. So, I figured it was a good idea just to wait for the New 3DS.

I really think that Nintendo should release a anniversary edition of the Gameboy Color, I REALLY think it would be amazing, make it the same shape, WITH A BACK lit screen, and maybe even just call it Gameboy Anniversary edition or whatever, and maybe make the screen a little bit bigger but with the same aspect ratio, AND give it a re-chargeable battery!!! Also include the Super Gameboy technology inside of it so normal gb games can be played in full color with the options of playing them in original black and white if you really wanted to! And make the back where the cartridges go in be able to also insert Gameboy Advance games!!!!!!! For that maybe they could include L and R buttons on the back of the gameboy where your index fingers sit and as an alternate option it could come with plastic tabs so you can cover the L and R buttons if you just are playing old Gameboy Games (because they don't have L and R buttons! NOW THAT is the ultimate DREAM gameboy.
I know Nintendo wouldn't make much at all from this, BUT think of how cheap it can be done since it is such old technology, what if they just made them for a few years almost like a limited edition kind of thing? If they had to sell it for like 200 or 300 dollers I WOULD STILL BUY THE THING, it would be a dream come true

Cool video. Though a little misleading. The only way to play GB or GBC or even GBA games on the 3DS or 2DS is if they are downloaded. It will not play the actually carts. In a round about way you did kind of say that but it wasn't totally clear and might confuse some people. So I would say no! The 3DS or 2DS is absolutely not the ultimate Game Boy, as a DS is not a Game Boy. The ultimate Game Boy would be the 101 model GBA SP.

Hey, a set of two LR6 batteries every month wasn't bad, nowadays you have to charge your system pretty much every day to use it.
Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were released on the Gameboy Advance in 2003 (2005 for emerald), they weren't called "Alpha Sapphire" or "Omega Ruby," just the gemstones by themselves. Out of the three games, only Emerald ever had wireless support (not including Fire Red and Leaf Green).

I had a Nintendo Gameboy Advance that was transparent red, it was pretty lit and played Pokemon and YuGi Oh. Then I lost it, which was sad for me at 6 years old. Then I got the DSi XL Mario Edition for Christmas when I was 11 years old, and man did I have some fun on that.

I thought that was cool THEN I found out it can allow a DS to do movie playback then I was very excited I found this. +Shamus Tameus If you hack your 3DS you can run GBA Virtual Console games people have made based on the GBA emulator Nintendo gave out in the 3DS ambassador package. You don't get restore points or anything like other VC games, but it's worth it IMO.

I got the green and yellow LoZ 2DS with Ocarina of Time preinstalles for $40 on Wish lol. I love it but i wish the 2DS XL was the same thing with a bigger screen. I think the no flip screen design is what makes this so cool. It feels alot more comfortable to hold than a 3DS too

+Masagus emulators aren't illegal but pirating rom's are. It is 100 legal to rip your own rom's and I think it's legal to download rom's of games you already have (don't quote me on this).
***** Devin is right, Emulators, ROMs, ISOs, etc are all floating in the land of the quasi-legal, own the console and games in question and you are probably in the clear, if the laws pertaining to such haven't changed since I last checked, otherwise, Pirates.....well unless its so old its just fallen into public domain, but few games have.
The GBA SP model number 101, or even a modded GBA to have a backlit screen, will forever be the ultimate Game Boy, as it can play every Game Boy game.

I'm loving my 2DS. Although sometimes, I kinda think "God, would this EVER look good in 3D!" I'm kinda cool with it. I know that from everyone else's feedback that they'd never turn on the 3D, when I'm playing a friends 3DS, I'm a 3D-aholic. But I know that once I actually had the console that I'd say otherwise. I got my 2DS for $70 (Canadian) used. For that price, I'm digging it. But if I had had to pay the $50 more, I'd say otherwise. And that's probably because I'm unemployed. Austin, your videos on this console really put a lot into my decision into this, rather than a 3DS, so thank you so much, man! I hope to see more soon!
The GBA SP is the best Gameboy because it can play all Gameboy games, is backlit, can be charged and it can be closed to protect the screen but still is much more sturdy when compared to the DS.
I still miss the 90s trend of making everything translucent. It wasn't just game consoles, you'd walk into a Sears and see translucent home phones and all sorts of stuff. I suppose it's kinda tacky, but I've always loved being able to see the innards of electronics.

I recommend using a Raspberry Pi (B or maybe B+) to create a GameBoy Emulator (can use Mame) that plays NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, GB, GBC, GBA games all in one! A few additions and a software upgrade can mean owning a portable N64/GAMECUBE!
That would be the SP, the battery life, the lit screen, the backwards compatibility (the eShop does not sell every GB, GBC or GBA game, plus people tend not to be all that thrilled on buying something they already own, much less at Nintendo's ridged and high prices, Steam they are not!) , the compact size, the way it folds to protect the screen.
That thing in your hands isn't even what many would even consider to be a 'Game Boy', would be like me holding up a Dreamcast and saying its the best Mega Drive.
I've got a 2DS in white and red. the reason I chose this over a 3DS is the lack of 3D. I have glasses, and any 3D gives me headaches easily, and I didn't want to be splashing out £150 for something I wouldn't use. I use it quite a lot, although not as much as my DS, but hey, I need to fill my Pokédex on Pok3mon Ruby for GBA again after my sister deleted my file! 😈

I remember my last year of elementary there was a kid in my class that in social studies he used play in class and my teacher took it away for him and wouldn't give it back in total he brought to school 6 ds lite and my teacher was so pissed off at him.
I would say nowadays that an 'ultimate gameboy' would be a ds lite or a device that can emulate, simply because on the new 3ds you can download gameboy games but not all of them, and they might cost 5-10$ when in a store you may pay less and have the physical copy, and of course with emulation it's free. 3ds is great though
