- I love racing games. Ever since I was a kid and I played Pole Position for the first time, it's been one of my absolute favorite genres of games. Today, I want to look back at some retro racing games that I love. What are your favorite retro racing games? Let me know!

Fun fact , Looney Tunes Space Race is also on the ps2 !
Yeah, I was just about to comment that I have that game on PS2
Top Gear for SNES was my jam back in the day!
Mariokart DS FOREVERRRRR! Like, there's nothing better. It's perfectly perfect in every way.
Good Lord F Zero still looks good today. Late 2003 was a great time to be a GC owner.
I played a lot of Andretti Racing on PS1, it had Nascar and F1 in the same game. Also, while not that old of a game, Blur on the Xbox 360 was a great racing game to play online. It had powerups that could really make or break the race.
I think it was Champcar. Was gonna guess Indycar, but that was during the split and there were circuits tracks in that game, not just ovals.
Bro. RC Pro Am. This is the game.
@@randallgoeswhere I had Championship Pro-Am on the last cut list. Love it.
No surprises here Jay, nice list my friend!
Switch version of Virtua Racing is way above everyone other version, including the arcade original. Saturn version is decent, at least because of the additional content, although it's not an arcade port, but an approximation.
Rick steiner playing video games!
That's a new one! This dog faced gremlin appreciates it.
My favorite retro racing game is Gran Turismo 4 on PS2. I truly believe that Gran Turismo 4 is one of the greatest racing games of all time.
Excellent choice!
Beetle Adventure Racing was a favorite of my brother and I. I'm pleasantly surprised you included it.
Yes my favorite game racing on Dreamcast version so fun and few years ago I PS2 version I remember seeing then never already Dreamcast one
It's not as over shadowed by Mario Kart 64 like it was back in the day but give me some diddy kong racing once a year and I'll beat that entire thing lol.
Dude, you worked on Nascar 2005? That game rocked!! What aspect did you work on?
I was the Database Manager for QA. I basically routed all the bugs to where they needed to go, was one of the communication lines between development/production and quality assurance, and made sure anything that came back to QA to check a fix got closed out. Not the most glamorous role, but an important one. Chase for the Cup was the third of the five NASCAR games I worked on, if you count Thunder 04 as two since I did console and PC, which were completely separate IPs and development teams. :)
Very nice. I believe your services are needed for just about every new launch game right now. If you told me that you worked on Cyberpunk 2077 or any of the numerous PC ports of other recent games I would unsubcribe right now. 😉 😂 Just kidding. I understand their time crunch.
Some really good games there Jay. Here are some of my favorite retro racers you didn't mention (in no particular order):
Al Unser Jr.'s Racing - NES
Top Gear 2 - SNES
Burnout 3 Takedown - Multiple
Rush 2 - N64
Need for Speed Underground 2 - Multiple
Mario Kart 64 - N64
Toca Race Driver 2 - Multiple
Ridge Racer V - PS2
Gran Turismo 2 - PS1
RalliSport Challenge 2 - Xbox
Take care! 🟧
Great list of games there, my friend! Thank you as always for watching. :) Happy Thanksgiving, if I don't message with you before then!
For people who are interested: Virtua Racing is also available on PS2 through the Sega Classics Collection. It is also a great port that runs very smooth and has crisp graphics. I personally love the Mega Drive version. The system can barely hold it together when running that game, making it all the more charming to me. 3D games on non-3D platforms just have that goofy retro charm :)
Excellent information! I'll have to track down that collection - thank you for letting me know!
@@SquarePegs No problem, it is an interesting collection with a bunch of Sega classics remade for the Japanese Sega ages collection. Virtua Racing is definitely the best game of the collection but it also has a pretty cool 3D version of Fantasy Zone.
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on PS1 is worth checking out. Fun game with nice retro visuals.
I'll pick it up! Thanks for the suggestion!
Ever heard of Initial D, Wangan Midnight or Ridge Racer? The former two are based on manga series, but have amazing arcade racers. The latter has been in the market for 31 years, and it has been my go-to for my arcade racing fix.
Never tried Initial D, though I'm aware of it. Ridge Racer is an all timer - that I completely forgot about when making this video. 😑 It absolutely should have been in this list!
As far as Wangan Midnight - that's new to me! I'll look into it! Thanks for the suggestions, and thank you for watching!
Fantastic list of games. Racing games are my favorite. I've been hooked ever since playing Enduro on the Atari 2600. I highly recommend Wacky Racers on the Dreamcast. Since you like Space Race I think you'll really enjoy it.
@@outdoorsjoe Wacky Races was one of the last ones cut from this video! It's excellent - I'm stoked to see others enjoy it, too!
@SquarePegs Which NASCAR games did you work on?
I ended up on five different NASCAR SKUs when I was at EA:
NASCAR Thunder 2004 Xbox
NASCAR Thunder 2004 PC (VERY different games)
NASCAR 2005 Chase for the Cup
NASCAR 06 Total Team Control
NASCAR 08 (for which I apologize)
@SquarePegs That's really cool. I love NASCAR and have great memories of playing on PS2 using the GT Force feedback wheel. I'm looking forward to the next console NASCAR game since Iracing is involved. Sadly the last NASCAR game we got was horrible.
Do yourself a favour and pick up Shox on PS2 as well as WRC: World Rally Championship by Evolution Studios on PS2.
Sadly the controls in the second entry feel overly heavy, so I wouldn't recommend that one. And 3,4 and WRC: Rally Evolved never came out in the US for some reason, which is a real shame as they are absolutely brilliant.
But the original WRC: World Rally Championship, while looking quite dated as it was an early PS2 game, still plays like a dream and should be super cheap. I got my copy for €0.99 this summer as I went on a PS2 buying spree and it's now one of my favourite racing games.
I LOVE Shox - it was very close to making this list. I'll definitely check out WRC 1!
I love Mario Kart Super Circuit and VRally 3 on GBA.
Chase HQ (we need a new gen remake of this game)
For me my top 2 retro racing games and I have way too many racing games is Daytona USA and Sega rally on sega saturn. Other retro racing titles I enjoy are gran turismo 2 on ps1, need for speed hot pursuit 2 on ps2. Mario kart double dash on GameCube is easily the best kart racer made, I do agree the idea of download play from the dis version was very cool and it was taken advantage of by our family gatherings for years. Finally, I am a huge fan of cruisin’ series on n64, great titles with a lot of fun and replay ability. Fun list though, I enjoyed your list
Great games listed here, my friend! Thank you so much for watching, it's appreciated. :)
@ gotta be there for one another
Damn what happened to the Mariners hat you had on?!
A fair question! I tend to bounce between the Red Sox (born into it) and the Mariners (adopted team for my favorite city).
@ as a Seattleite born and raised, thank you for saying that! Nothing like the 206
I was just there for a week, and legit loved every second of it. Got to go to Climate Pledge for a Kraken game and was blown away by how quickly the city has adopted my favorite sport. Already planning on another week back in the Summer so I can hit up a Mariners game. :)
@ oh man we have the best summers on the planet. If you come to Alki Beach say hey we can play my Dreamcast lmfao (Alki Beach is the founding of Seattle, we take the water taxi from the beach to downtown to go to the Mariners games it’s a dope commute!)
Dude, don't think I won't reach out! I'll definitely message once I get closer to trip time - at the very least we can grab a drink and a bite!
Great Video. Love racing games.
Thank you, my friend!
