No, it wasn't forza, it was Activision who pulled the plug after buying bizzare creations. If they didn't buy them out, who knows if the series would be running today. BTW, forza is good but doesn't have that PGR driving feel to it.
Metropolis Street Racer was amazing when it came out, but PGR2 was my absolute favourite - it had Edinburgh in it! I used to live there at the time and racing a Ferrari round the city I spent most of my time in, it was surreal, and so well done
Was my first game purchased for 360. Played it so much. I remember going to the garage and just walking around looking at the cars. I said "no way graphics can get better than this". Playing geometry wars on the arcade was amazing too.
while i personally think PGR4 is better than 3 in every way, this is still such an amazing game for the time and even to this day. i don't go back and play it as much as 4, but it is definitely worth a shot from anyone looking for a racing game they've never played before
This game still has one of the best cockpit views in any racing game. Something the amateurs making the Forza Horizon games still can’t work out after like 5 entries lol
not all of the disbanded bizarre creations team works at playground games some of them has also worked on in many game studios game like need for speed shift project cars and grid series dirt series but a lot of the team have joined in evolution studio and made the motor storm apocalypse and drive club 2014
Loved all the games in this series. Especially the audio and wide variety of radio stations and music styles. Where your not stuck to the same heavier/dub style of music like in many other racing games.
I have an ingrained memory of playing NY bridge map online with no class restrictions IN PGR 3. I chose the Cadillac 16 (C Class) while literally every match other people exclusively chose (A class) Ferrari F50 or Mclarrens. On that one map, the Cadillac 16's immense acceleration allowed me to out run all of them, and simply ride the wall for turning again to go back across the second bridge. The other people in voice chat were like "Did I just get passed by a CADILLAC??"
Using the F50 to push a mini over Brooklyn bridge at 200mph in cat and mouse, one of my greatest gaming moments for the absolute madness and hilarity that lobby became
Favorite racing series ever. And I've played most of them over the years lol. Thanks for making this with a bit of history on the series and the studio. PGR3 blew my mind in 2006 when I got my 360. It has a cockpit view camera? Mind blown lol. Didn't like it quite as much as PGR2 for the reasons you mentioned regarding the menus/leaderboards/etc. But the actual racing is top notch. Best handling model ever. Such a great balance between sim/arcade feel. Nobody has done it better in that regard IMO. Cheers.
I love the PGR Series I hope it gets a reboot at some point you can never have too many Racing Games! Hope we get Blur back as well… I have the Game but I mean a new one…
Yeah I feel like now they probably feel like Forza Horizon is their arcade racing series. I wonder if PGR was allowed to evolve if it would've moved to being open world?
There were some great DLC packs released for this game about a year after its original 2005 release. I would love to learn about away it can still be obtained even though the 360 Marketplace is no longer active.
Project Gotham Racing 3 is one of the first games I purchased when I first got my 360 and I still play it up to this day because Project Gotham Racing is my favorite Xbox exclusive racing game series outside of Forza.
I loved PGR3. It was the first game I ever played online. I had to take my 360 round my friends house to play online as he had broadband and I only had 56k dial up at the time.
There was a racing game I played as a kid , and I never knew its name. I know I just loved it. You just unlocked a memory of mine 😮 it was PGR on original Xbox.. only reason I never played the others is I had moved on to PS3 with Gran Turismo
Great video! I got my Xbox 360 in 2005 and my PS3 in 2007. Project Gotham Racing 4 on the Xbox 360 and Formula One Championship Edition (launch title on the PS3 were the best-looking games I played. The graphics and sound were amazing! I will never forget the experience. You should look at the F1 champion edition on PS3, you won't be disappointed.
Great series. I bought 2 copies of project Gotham racing 2 at launch back in the day to play system link as we had 2 original xbox's in our home. Only one copy ever got opened but i still have the other still factory sealed.
I really miss playing this and have been desperately waiting for it to be emulated accurately on PC. Bizarre Creations even went to the detail of adding a small amount of heat haze from the exhausts. I loved hanging out on the Bizarre Creations forums back in the day and bought an Xbox 360 on day one just for this game.
0:32 PGR 4 is the best so far with the biggest variety of exotic vehicles and PGR 3 is very solid, too. My favorite car of 3 is the Palmar Jaguar lp1. @7:41 PGR 3 and 4 are more simcade than arcade racer. Mechanical grip and aero grip are simulated well, especially in case of the track toys.
I absolutely adore this series. We need a shenmue 3 moment for this series. Completely out of nowhere announcement of pgr5. Only the game needs to be good, which was not the case for shenmue 3.
I loved this game and met so many great people on it. I was really young, so this was my introduction to xbox live and online gaming. I made me ao excited about the future of gaming... look at it now. I remember one guy i friended and races with a lot had a baby. It blows my mind to think that boy is almost 20 now!
owned a couple - the definite racer Rallysport challenge 2, OG XB and my 360 came with a game where you crash into vehicles and cause explosions. Want you to review em.
PGR 2 - 4 are some of my favorite racing games of all time. And this is coming from a lifelong die-hard PC gamer and thus have some of the literal best racing games of all time at my fingertips. PGR3 especially (for the time anyways) blew me away with the graphics and audio design. Top tier stuff and still holds up today for sure. I wish I had an Xbox so I could play this through backwards compt. but sadly, I do not anymore. Maybe one day somehow, we'll get a PGR5 or a PGR remaster series or something.
Funny enough, I only had the even numbered entries of PGR early on, and only played 1 and 3 later in the 2010s I definitely think PGR3 is a great game, but definitely suffered from a lack of single-player content, in my opinion. The career mode is only about 5-6 hours long, compared to most other racing games, and especially the other PGRs. Still would recommend as it does have some unique content and aspects in the audio and visuals!
I LOVED this game. Worked late shifts back then and used to play it for hours into the night after work. I so wish it was backwards compatible with Xbox One.
Is this the most "next gen" looking game from the 360 launch? PDZ and Kameo looked great and all, but you could see their GameCube roots in some of the assets. Dead or Alive 4 also looked great and ran beautifully, but DOA3 already looked so good that I feel like 4 didn't set itself quite far enough above that. Condemned had Dreamcast-quality character models with next-gen textures and lighting applied on top, even if the overall look was surprisingly good. But PGR3 couldn't have worked on the Xbox or GameCube by any stretch, and it seemingly hasn't aged in almost two decades (besides the 30fps cap)!
When i play Cod 2 on the xbox 360 i was not impress .When i when to a nother store and saw PGR3 demo instead i finally understand the jump to next gen i was so impress with the game i was sold on the Xbox 360 !!! I like PGR 3 & 4 so much its a shame it not working on Xbox One so we could play today !!!
Shame Forza has been the only main simulator series since the OG has Rallisport to back up the rally racing genre. I feel like there should be a sequel by now…
I remember playing this in a curcuit city. They had a dedicated room for the Xbox 360 and they were showcasing this game and i remember thinking "These are the best graphics i have ever seen." I was in that room for like an hour 🤣
the original xbox and the xbox 360 had awesome racing games too bad microsoft forgot about both the project gotham racing series and the rallisport challenge series they also forgot about the mechassault series and no sequel to blood wake? not very smart on their end cool video as always dude
@@campxboxi really wish we could've gotten the cancelled games like taxi driver, dirty harry, jurassic park survival, and an xbox exclusive titled b.c.
@@campxbox I haven't looked into "the scene" to see if those Zune games have been "moved" off of that platform yet. I know my gen-1 Zune needs capacitor/battery updates, but my ZuneHD still works great.

I miss the PGR series. Loved all four games and MSR on Dreamcast.
you can thank Forza Horizon for that
I miss the Dreamcast

It’s Thinking!!!!🍥
Car handling in this game is just pure bliss.
I remember playing this game back on my 360 and being amazed by how good the graphics looked for its time
its only 1 year after half life 2 and san andreas. its amazing
Ah... Xbox 360 launch times... It was this game and Gears of War in rotation all the time while waiting for Halo 3...
Good times.
Metropolis Street Racer was amazing when it came out, but PGR2 was my absolute favourite - it had Edinburgh in it! I used to live there at the time and racing a Ferrari round the city I spent most of my time in, it was surreal, and so well done
Getting the notification that the race you're loading into is going to be on Gotham TV was always terrifying
Was my first game purchased for 360. Played it so much. I remember going to the garage and just walking around looking at the cars. I said "no way graphics can get better than this". Playing geometry wars on the arcade was amazing too.
Great video. This remains the only game I got every achievement for and spent hours doing so. It still holds up today. An absolute classic
Nice job on that 100%. That is not an easy one.

This game and the first Test Drive Unlimited were the goats when it came to cockpit view!
Bizarre creations shut down and the devs became Playground games who are responsible for the Horizon series.
not all of the disbanded bizarre creations team works at playground games some of them has also worked on in many game studios game like need for speed shift project cars and grid series dirt series but a lot of the team have joined in evolution studio and made the motor storm apocalypse and drive club 2014

PGR3 has a great sense of speed, especially crossing the Brooklyn bridge.
This franchise was one of my favorite racers, I really wish they would let it live on backward compatible, it won't hurt Forza.

This series was such a huge deal back in the OG Xbox days. A shame it’s all but forgotten now.
To this day one of my favorite game series. Sucks that we’ll never see a fifth one.
PGR3 was one of those gaming kiosk greats.
That picture is so real its scary
I played this game so much that I know about the tree in the sky in Nurburgring ^-^

Test Drive Le Mans Dreamcast is my second favorite
I absolutely loved 3. It was so challening. I got all 1000/1000 achievements and the online community was great.
I loved PGR3. It was the first game I ever played online. I had to take my 360 round my friends house to play online as he had broadband and I only had 56k dial up at the time.
I recently hooked up my 360 and played this, i can say that yes. Yes it does.
I miss the 360 so much. Great vid again, brotha!

I would love to see you do a review of Test drive overdrive on the xbox. Nobody has really touched it and went under the radar.
I'll add it to the to-do list!
i still own a factory sealed PGR4 , my favorite pgr

Straight up excellent review 👌!
I love PGR, everything these days is a straight out sim or an arcade racer, PGR straddled the two beautifully.
Def a classic and it totally holds up, feels so good to drive in pgr 3.
I bought all the PGR’s, treat them as soundtracks now with gameplay to supplement the music.
Would be great if you could make a video of comparing all the pgr titles, especially pgr3 and 4 the look very similar. Like always superb video.
Definitely will do! Thank you for watching!
The games definitely have that Ridge Racer Type of vibe reason why I enjoyed 3 and 4 game
This game was so good. I loved arranging and walking around my garages just as much as the racing.
I'm pretty sure this came with my 360...and I loved it.

I ended up having all platinum. I can't remember which race, but there was one race in particular that took me forever to platinum.

Pgr3 is almost 20 years old yet looks absolutely amazing, I miss xbox 360 days😢
I LOVED this game. Worked late shifts back then and used to play it for hours into the night after work. I so wish it was backwards compatible with Xbox One.
When people next to the track look beter than most 2024 race games (looking at your Forza).
The first project Gotham on the original Xbox had a fusion frenzy demo, and I honestly played that more than the actual game lol
I still have all four PGR games 👍🏿

man i loved racing that purple sports car online and beating the faster cars
One of my most played launch games, awesome, awesome, awesome game. But saying that I haven’t played much of PGR4.
