Was my first game purchased for 360. Played it so much. I remember going to the garage and just walking around looking at the cars. I said "no way graphics can get better than this". Playing geometry wars on the arcade was amazing too.
Metropolis Street Racer was amazing when it came out, but PGR2 was my absolute favourite - it had Edinburgh in it! I used to live there at the time and racing a Ferrari round the city I spent most of my time in, it was surreal, and so well done
I went to my uni because one of the PGR3 devs said on their website that's where they went to. PGR3 had a direct impact on my career, not bad for an Xbox game.
Yeah I feel like now they probably feel like Forza Horizon is their arcade racing series. I wonder if PGR was allowed to evolve if it would've moved to being open world?
There were some great DLC packs released for this game about a year after its original 2005 release. I would love to learn about away it can still be obtained even though the 360 Marketplace is no longer active.
I have an ingrained memory of playing NY bridge map online with no class restrictions IN PGR 3. I chose the Cadillac 16 (C Class) while literally every match other people exclusively chose (A class) Ferrari F50 or Mclarrens. On that one map, the Cadillac 16's immense acceleration allowed me to out run all of them, and simply ride the wall for turning again to go back across the second bridge. The other people in voice chat were like "Did I just get passed by a CADILLAC??"
while i personally think PGR4 is better than 3 in every way, this is still such an amazing game for the time and even to this day. i don't go back and play it as much as 4, but it is definitely worth a shot from anyone looking for a racing game they've never played before
This game still has one of the best cockpit views in any racing game. Something the amateurs making the Forza Horizon games still can’t work out after like 5 entries lol
Favorite racing series ever. And I've played most of them over the years lol. Thanks for making this with a bit of history on the series and the studio. PGR3 blew my mind in 2006 when I got my 360. It has a cockpit view camera? Mind blown lol. Didn't like it quite as much as PGR2 for the reasons you mentioned regarding the menus/leaderboards/etc. But the actual racing is top notch. Best handling model ever. Such a great balance between sim/arcade feel. Nobody has done it better in that regard IMO. Cheers.
Great series. I bought 2 copies of project Gotham racing 2 at launch back in the day to play system link as we had 2 original xbox's in our home. Only one copy ever got opened but i still have the other still factory sealed.
Is this the most "next gen" looking game from the 360 launch? PDZ and Kameo looked great and all, but you could see their GameCube roots in some of the assets. Dead or Alive 4 also looked great and ran beautifully, but DOA3 already looked so good that I feel like 4 didn't set itself quite far enough above that. Condemned had Dreamcast-quality character models with next-gen textures and lighting applied on top, even if the overall look was surprisingly good. But PGR3 couldn't have worked on the Xbox or GameCube by any stretch, and it seemingly hasn't aged in almost two decades (besides the 30fps cap)!
Funny enough, I only had the even numbered entries of PGR early on, and only played 1 and 3 later in the 2010s I definitely think PGR3 is a great game, but definitely suffered from a lack of single-player content, in my opinion. The career mode is only about 5-6 hours long, compared to most other racing games, and especially the other PGRs. Still would recommend as it does have some unique content and aspects in the audio and visuals!
owned a couple - the definite racer Rallysport challenge 2, OG XB and my 360 came with a game where you crash into vehicles and cause explosions. Want you to review em.
the original xbox and the xbox 360 had awesome racing games too bad microsoft forgot about both the project gotham racing series and the rallisport challenge series they also forgot about the mechassault series and no sequel to blood wake? not very smart on their end cool video as always dude
@@campxboxi really wish we could've gotten the cancelled games like taxi driver, dirty harry, jurassic park survival, and an xbox exclusive titled b.c.
Shame Forza has been the only main simulator series since the OG has Rallisport to back up the rally racing genre. I feel like there should be a sequel by now…
I only played the 3rd and 4th installments and I felt the 4th one was better. I never played the first two, because I never had an original Xbox. And given the state of original Xbox emulation, I'm probably not likely any time soon.
Xbox was never too popular in Japan. I’d guess Sony being Japanese didn’t help, but also PlayStation has always had more JPRG or JPRG-adjacent games that are super popular over there whereas first person shooters aren’t as loved. I’m glad there’s something for everyone though since I prefer a mix of fps with rpg elements (Deus Ex for example).
Not really but it's rather a matter of perspective. Lifetime sales wise, the PS3 outsold it by a 5:1 margin but even so, still to this day, the 360 is the best selling Xbox in Japan. it was the console of choice for professional players (e.g. fighting game pros) and there were many months during the first years (2006 to 2009) where the 360 outsold the PS3. So by that, it didn't fail at all.
Thank you for watching! Let me know what I should cover next!

I miss the PGR series. Loved all four games and MSR on Dreamcast.
you can thank Forza Horizon for that
I miss the Dreamcast
Car handling in this game is just pure bliss.
Getting the notification that the race you're loading into is going to be on Gotham TV was always terrifying

When people next to the track look beter than most 2024 race games (looking at your Forza).
I went to my uni because one of the PGR3 devs said on their website that's where they went to. PGR3 had a direct impact on my career, not bad for an Xbox game.
This franchise was one of my favorite racers, I really wish they would let it live on backward compatible, it won't hurt Forza.
Yeah I feel like now they probably feel like Forza Horizon is their arcade racing series. I wonder if PGR was allowed to evolve if it would've moved to being open world?
@@campxbox i think they could make pgr the arcade racer that isn't open world. I prefer forza horizon driving over forza sport but i hate open worlds.

Great video. This remains the only game I got every achievement for and spent hours doing so. It still holds up today. An absolute classic
Nice job on that 100%. That is not an easy one.
This game still has one of the best cockpit views in any racing game. Something the amateurs making the Forza Horizon games still can’t work out after like 5 entries lol
i still own a factory sealed PGR4 , my favorite pgr
This series was such a huge deal back in the OG Xbox days. A shame it’s all but forgotten now.
Ah... Xbox 360 launch times... It was this game and Gears of War in rotation all the time while waiting for Halo 3...
Good times.
Glad to see you covering 360 stuff man, love your channel glad to see someone passionate covering Xbox stuff
I bought all the PGR’s, treat them as soundtracks now with gameplay to supplement the music.
I remember playing this game back on my 360 and being amazed by how good the graphics looked for its time

I loved the third game. It was the first one I played.
Great series. I bought 2 copies of project Gotham racing 2 at launch back in the day to play system link as we had 2 original xbox's in our home. Only one copy ever got opened but i still have the other still factory sealed.
Def a classic and it totally holds up, feels so good to drive in pgr 3.
Series is so much better than Forza
Would be great if you could make a video of comparing all the pgr titles, especially pgr3 and 4 the look very similar. Like always superb video.
Definitely will do! Thank you for watching!
I prefer "regular" cars, at least for the first few hours. I want to play with cars that I see on the street and know. It's cozy for me.
I totally get that! Definitely a more chill experience.
One of my most played launch games, awesome, awesome, awesome game. But saying that I haven’t played much of PGR4.
Is this the most "next gen" looking game from the 360 launch?

man i loved racing that purple sports car online and beating the faster cars
Nice video, I still have PGR2 and love to play it from time to time. Great series of games!
Funny enough, I only had the even numbered entries of PGR early on, and only played 1 and 3 later in the 2010s

PGR 2 is my favorite racing game of all time.
Test Drive Le Mans Dreamcast is my second favorite
Pgr4 holds up really well, I played through it start to finish again this year what a game
I would love to see you do a review of Test drive overdrive on the xbox. Nobody has really touched it and went under the radar.
Got this game at launch with my 360. Remember loving it but I haven’t played it since I got into the Forza series with Motorsport 2.
PGR3 was one of those gaming kiosk greats.
PGR2 was incredible. Completely agree with your ranking of the series.
Excellent review!
Thanks for the kind words! Thank you for watching!
I still have all four PGR games 👍🏿
Great racing game another lovely day at Camp Xbox
owned a couple - the definite racer Rallysport challenge 2, OG XB and my 360 came with a game where you crash into vehicles and cause explosions. Want you to review em.
I recently hooked up my 360 and played this, i can say that yes. Yes it does.
omg Camp what song is that in the final thoughts section of the vid that joint slaps
I made that one! I've made some songs for background use in my videos to use along with the game music. That song is called Day Dreaming.
I'm pretty sure this came with my 360...and I loved it.
visually this game still holds up pretty well.
11:25 is that a Nintendo switch billboard I am seeing or Am I hallucinating?
It’s a shame this is the one game I can’t get to run in my European 360 lol, I miss this one so much
Do you have ntsc version?
@ I have an NTSC game, I’m a dummie and bought a PAL 360 off eBay without realizing it’s PAL. lol I just goofed.
@@KevPez-IS lol, damn. Just sell it and buy pal copy 😁
@@alex.starostin I’m might, or maybe just mod it. We’ll see!
So weird that everything else worked except for that!

The biggest draw back to this game was it didn’t have Edinburgh
Sure it does! Because MSR still holds up on Dreamcast!!😲
Don't forget PGR on the ZuneHD! :D
Hab nur MSR für Dreamcast. PGR ist ebenso genial. Schade nur das viele Spiele dieser Art heute nicht einmal Ansatzweise an PGR herankommen...
I only played the 3rd and 4th installments and I felt the 4th one was better. I never played the first two, because I never had an original Xbox. And given the state of original Xbox emulation, I'm probably not likely any time soon.
the second game works pretty well on the Xbox 360.
Least PGR2 is fully playable on Insignia! 😁
30 fps in a racing game = A big No..
Those were the days 😌
Beautiful graphics
BC is complicaded. Licens is time exclusiv, not by titel. Ferrari is going to charge you to much for rerelease
Need for speed most wanted was also amazing
PGR2 is the best. Enzo at Kremlin with 8 players online
This guy sounds like HokiHoshi
2, 3, 4, 1. 3 is better than 4 because 4 is clunkier and has a terrible garage system compared to 3.
The best game ever !! Fight me !
Next game DOA 4 on 360 !!
Was Xbox 360 a failure in japan
