Correction on a few things: 1: It is actually unknown if the old ones were eradicated and its entirely possible that they left the milky way, went into hibernation or are still hidden within the webway. the only possible lead we would have for more information would be eldar harlequins, but these guys dont realy talk with anyone... 2: The emperor did NOT conquer and unite terra with spacemarines. He did so with the precursor to them, the thunder warriors, who were however deemed too unstable and were finally succeeded by the stronger and more mentally balanced spacemarines. 3: The birthing event of slaanesh was not metaphorically but actually very physically the reason that the eldar empire fell. As the eldar desire for excess and pleasure reached heights of extremes that are unimaginable, slaanesh formed in a scream so massive, that the warp alone could not contain all of its violent energies. Those overspilling energies formed the largest warpstorm known in the milky way, killing billions of eldar in an instant and shattering their glorious empire as both a society and as their homeland. 4: The Cult Mechanicus (in the imperium officialy Adeptus Mechanicus) does strictly speaking NOT have religious autonomy. The emperor however knew that the empire greatly depends on it so they more or less have a treaty that states on the side of the Cult Mechanicus that the emperor is a physical manifestation of the omnissiah and therefore their god while on the imperiums side, mars´ religion is considered a legitimate interpretation of the ecclesiarchy (the current state of the church of mankind). Just a slight correction to your correction. The thunder warriors were stronger than space marines physically but they lacked the coordination of the space marines. When the emperor decided to get rid of them it took hundreds of space marine lives to kill small groups.

Mars basically worshipped The Emperor as the Omnissiah, or a manifestation of the Omnissiah because his appearance on Mars matched almost perfectly with a Martian profecy that foretold their god's arrival. (Appearing on a certain mountain at a certain time on a certain day, etc etc) And his unquestionably immense power as a living being.

Hearing the explanation of how the Warp drive in WH40K works and the Geller Field, I'm reminded of Event Horizon. Almost like that ship went through the Warp, but didn't have a field to protect it.

Other than the possibility of anything ever going well for anyone besides Khorne, the Orks, and the Tyranids. Literally nobody else is happy and they're probably never going to be.
This is by far the most expansive sci-fi / fantasy universe out there: a rabbit hole without end. _If people want to get a subtle introduction via books,_ start by reading the "Eisenhorn" series, which branches off into "Ravenor" and "Bequin" character's books. Or pick a faction you like, look for a major protagonist and then read about them. *Or start with TH-camrs* like Luetin09 and his: "WTF is 40K" and other topics of introduction like "Tau", "Orcs", "Eldar", "Imperium of man", etc.
I only really have two gripes with this video, and one of them is an extreme nitpick. One is that the eldar weren’t just around at the same time as the war in heaven, they were created by the Old Ones to fight it. Their psychic prowess was meant to take advantage of the C’tan weakness for the Warp. The nitpick was that Horus genuinely beat the Emp bad enough to put him on the GT, rather than it being a result of his pure psychic might draining too much. Just small stuff overall, but hey I’m a necron fan, I’m anal about War in Heaven stuff

Mr Hamilton the games dont matter, Its actually a very large book series(Very very large). There are 2 things you should know. 40K is the futuristic one, When it just says Warhammer its the medievil one. Both are good, You actually can just watch videos about it. Archwarhammer, Onemindsyndicate and 40facts are good channels especially Archwarhammer but his videos are usually an hour long because well there is just so much about one topic you really cant cut 40k lore into 6 min videos
You probably know about this, but you should check out a channel called 'Luetin09'. He makes incredible warhammer 40k lore videos, you should really check him out, he's great fun to watch and a good guy.
Love the exploring series so much, even with the occasional inaccuracies you still lean so much lore on stuff you have always been interested in but not totally willing to just jump into.
I am so excited for more 40k videos as well as the SCPs, both universes are expansive and amazing. I hope we can get in depth breaks downs of the races and factions.
All things considered, you actually explained the Warhammer 40k universe quite well, at least an overview of it. It’s hard to explain something that large an ever-expanding in half an hour, but I think you did great! wow, I don't expect to watch the whole video. this is the 1st time I've heard about this Warhammer 40k. honestly, it's amazingly grim, somewhat majestic and horrifyingly bloody.
Well done. A very short, comprehensive intro into the universe without getting too overwhelming. Great job. Although I'd liked a honorary mention of the dark eldar, and their pirate-like ways of slavery and torture. And maybe a sidenote that the warp itself was used by the elder to their benefit, before they f***ed and slaughtered a chaos deity into existence.

This is the first time I've ever left a comment on a video, because -until now- I've never felt a need to comment on any video I've listened to. All I want to say is this: Well done. As a former player of 40k, i can fully appreciate the scope of what you just summarized. And i know that it was no easy task. The origins of any one of the races could take up a series of videos in their own right; never mind the 40 millennia of human-recorded history that goes along with it. To be able to cover it all like you did in thirty minutes was amazing, and will serve as an excellent springboard for you, should you choose to dig deeper. Keep up the excellent work!
Interesting, chaos basically didn’t exist before the war in heaven. The old ones created such psychically potent species to combat the necrons, that the warp was *warped* and responded to their potent power, this creating the chaos gods
if i understand it correct, it made the chaos gods possible, the created gods of this time are more the eldar pantheon. the chaos gods we know are connected to humanity (beside slannesh of course). at least the awakening of khorne, nurgle and tzeentch had something to do with our race.

This is true, the warlike mindset of the sentient races was reflected into demonic creatures. Also FYI the warp and realspace originally existed in the same dimension. The necrons split them into seperate dimensions as the warp is anathema to the C'tan.

As far as summaries go, this wasn’t a bad shot! Yeah a lot was left out, especially the fight between Horus Lupercal and the Emperor of mankind. Horus managed to deal the Emperor a mortal wound, which made his interment in the Golden Throne the only possible way to save him, which is also a point of contention among fans of the 40K universe. There are channels that go into much more detail than this short video, such as Arch Warhammer 40K lore, and Leutin09, who also goes into a lot more detail concerning the Horus Heresy among many other great storylines. Thank you for covering this man. SCP’s and 40K??!!??!! You’re spoiling me.
As someone very familiar with the 40k settimg, this was a great introduction. Since this is a side project, and I remember ypu saying this is all new to you as well, I highly suggest showing off what you personally are finding interesting. My own suggestion would be either Big E, as he is so central, or the Mechanicus.

This is a very good wrapup honestly. The most important points are there and make the story understandable and give an overview over everything. Just one thing. At the end, i would have added that, even with the galaxy split in half, humanity isnt without hope. As possably one if not the last of the primarcs has been found again.
FML I just checked the books of the universe of 40K, it looks like I'm going to become a Space Marine just to live long enough to be able to read the whole series.
Discovering Exterminatus is when I knew I loved the series. There's no middle ground in the 40k universe, the stakes constantly force horrific action after horrific action while maintaining a logical framework. There's no permanent victory to be had. There's a beautiful symmetry to the plights of each race that transcends the game, which is a panzi scheme at this point. It's some one the best dark fantasy out there and incredibly robust. Nothing left to say except... KILL. MAIM. BURN.

@@Eye_Of_Odin978 you're confusing or equivocating "logical" in the context of being a synonym for "sound" or "reasonable" with what I wrote - which is often the actions of the various races follow a logical framework. Meaning the conclusions drawn are regularly consistent with their ideologies, characteristics, and histories. It's one of the things that made the universe so appealing. Different races solve problems in the ways that are natural and make sense to them. Even the acts of Chaos follow a certain type of logic depending on who the agents are (the motives of Heretic Chapters aren't the same as Demons or Cultists). What I loved is the licensing for extremism given the scope of the problems encountered. The Inquisition is more than happy to purge an entire planet, or system, of populated life to stem the spread of influence of Chaos. Because what's 1 planet or star system in the scope of an entire galaxy? I like the logic that in response to a hostile and violent galaxy the races employ tactics that are both hostile and violent. Love does not conquer all in the 40k universe. And I love that.

Mostly well done, but you didn't mention the Thunder Warriors, which were actually the genetically enhanced soldiers that The Emperor used to conquer Terra. It was because of flaws in the Thunder Warriors that the Emperor retooled the process and created the Primarchs, afterwhich when the Chaos Gods launched the infant Primarchs into the Warp, the Emperor used their genes to make the Space Marines.

I feel this will be the "trickiest" exploring series universe... Well done with simplifying everything (even to the point of [for the greater good] being technically inaccurate purely due holding back detail) I agree with it especially dealing with what the warp is/how it "behaves"/what it can do. The warp can be hard to tackle (beyond surface level) Far too overwhelming when dumped on with everything else Cant wait to see how you fill out the lore. Especially the 30k era (Fall of Cadia, Roboute returning is good, and finally there is progress.) but 30k was so full of character, and staggering spectacle, at least until the loyalist Primarchs all uneventfully vanished systematically. Im a fan of W40k and I have to say that this is a very good video. Sure, you left out a lot, but the proper introduction to W40k would take many many hours. Yeah W40k is that insanely huge. I know people that are intensely studying Warhammer 40 000 lore for more than 20 years and even they cannot say that they know everything about it.

Can I still enjoy this video and the other Warhammer ones without playing them? I have not played any of those games, and honestly don't have a clue what they are about
Mr Hamilton the games dont matter, Its actually a very large book series(Very very large). There are 2 things you should know. 40K is the futuristic one, When it just says Warhammer its the medievil one. Both are good, You actually can just watch videos about it. Archwarhammer, Onemindsyndicate and 40facts are good channels especially Archwarhammer but his videos are usually an hour long because well there is just so much about one topic you really cant cut 40k lore into 6 min videos
Most people these days get into Warhammer purely from the lore itself, not even touching the games or books until long later. You'll be fine.

You probably know about this, but you should check out a channel called 'Luetin09'. He makes incredible warhammer 40k lore videos, you should really check him out, he's great fun to watch and a good guy.
Love the exploring series so much, even with the occasional inaccuracies you still lean so much lore on stuff you have always been interested in but not totally willing to just jump into.

All things considered, you actually explained the Warhammer 40k universe quite well, at least an overview of it. It’s hard to explain something that large an ever-expanding in half an hour, but I think you did great! wow, I don't expect to watch the whole video. this is the 1st time I've heard about this Warhammer 40k. honestly, it's amazingly grim, somewhat majestic and horrifyingly bloody.

Well done. A very short, comprehensive intro into the universe without getting too overwhelming. Great job. Although I'd liked a honorary mention of the dark eldar, and their pirate-like ways of slavery and torture. And maybe a sidenote that the warp itself was used by the elder to their benefit, before they f***ed and slaughtered a chaos deity into existence.
I'm guessing he'll go more in depth deeper into the series

I am so fucking pumped over this 40k video. Wasn't sure if you said anything about it, but I really hope you do more. I've heard these stories hundreds of times from dozens of sources, and it would be nothing short of spectacular to hear it all again.
Finally a timeline this has got to be the most elusive thing. People are always trying to sell me stuff! I already know I won't play the game. Haven't found a novel I could like , but I so much would love to hear a summarized narration. Thank you so much.

This is the first time I've ever left a comment on a video, because -until now- I've never felt a need to comment on any video I've listened to. All I want to say is this: Well done. As a former player of 40k, i can fully appreciate the scope of what you just summarized. And i know that it was no easy task. The origins of any one of the races could take up a series of videos in their own right; never mind the 40 millennia of human-recorded history that goes along with it. To be able to cover it all like you did in thirty minutes was amazing, and will serve as an excellent springboard for you, should you choose to dig deeper. Keep up the excellent work!
Interesting, chaos basically didn’t exist before the war in heaven. The old ones created such psychically potent species to combat the necrons, that the warp was *warped* and responded to their potent power, this creating the chaos gods
if i understand it correct, it made the chaos gods possible, the created gods of this time are more the eldar pantheon. the chaos gods we know are connected to humanity (beside slannesh of course). at least the awakening of khorne, nurgle and tzeentch had something to do with our race.
scheinerchen it’s worth noting that the same chaos god (as in the individuals not just another version of them) exist in the warhammer fantasy universe as well leading me to think it’s possible they were created in a universe before both fantasy and 40k

This is true, the warlike mindset of the sentient races was reflected into demonic creatures.
Also FYI the warp and realspace originally existed in the same dimension. The necrons split them into seperate dimensions as the warp is anathema to the C'tan.

As far as summaries go, this wasn’t a bad shot! Yeah a lot was left out, especially the fight between Horus Lupercal and the Emperor of mankind. Horus managed to deal the Emperor a mortal wound, which made his interment in the Golden Throne the only possible way to save him, which is also a point of contention among fans of the 40K universe. There are channels that go into much more detail than this short video, such as Arch Warhammer 40K lore, and Leutin09, who also goes into a lot more detail concerning the Horus Heresy among many other great storylines. Thank you for covering this man. SCP’s and 40K??!!??!! You’re spoiling me.

As someone very familiar with the 40k settimg, this was a great introduction. Since this is a side project, and I remember ypu saying this is all new to you as well, I highly suggest showing off what you personally are finding interesting. My own suggestion would be either Big E, as he is so central, or the Mechanicus.

Nice one. But just to clarify. The warp itself is neither "good" nor "evil". It's a mere reflection of the physical realm. Unlike in this ehm... "cult classic" (let's stay pc), where the alternate reality is "pure evil".
Technically in 40k, every sci-fi series is a "prequel" that takes place in the Dark Age of Technology

At the end, i would have added that, even with the galaxy split in half, humanity isnt without hope. As possably one if not the last of the primarcs has been found again.

Discovering Exterminatus is when I knew I loved the series. There's no middle ground in the 40k universe, the stakes constantly force horrific action after horrific action while maintaining a logical framework. There's no permanent victory to be had. There's a beautiful symmetry to the plights of each race that transcends the game, which is a panzi scheme at this point. It's some one the best dark fantasy out there and incredibly robust. Nothing left to say except...

Maybe if your idea of "logical" is akin to the raving thought processes of a hobo on acid lmao. I like 40k, but let's not pretend it even comes CLOSE to "logic"
@@Eye_Of_Odin978 you're confusing or equivocating "logical" in the context of being a synonym for "sound" or "reasonable" with what I wrote - which is often the actions of the various races follow a logical framework. Meaning the conclusions drawn are regularly consistent with their ideologies, characteristics, and histories. It's one of the things that made the universe so appealing. Different races solve problems in the ways that are natural and make sense to them. Even the acts of Chaos follow a certain type of logic depending on who the agents are (the motives of Heretic Chapters aren't the same as Demons or Cultists).
What I loved is the licensing for extremism given the scope of the problems encountered. The Inquisition is more than happy to purge an entire planet, or system, of populated life to stem the spread of influence of Chaos. Because what's 1 planet or star system in the scope of an entire galaxy? I like the logic that in response to a hostile and violent galaxy the races employ tactics that are both hostile and violent.
Love does not conquer all in the 40k universe. And I love that.

Is anyone else finding this strange? When I first got into Lovecraft this guy started making love Lovecraft videos. When I started getting into SCP this guy started making SCP videos. Two weeks ago I got into Warhammer 40K and look what we have here.

@The Exploring Series, Eldar and Krorks (prelude to Orks) were both created by the Old Ones.
Mostly well done, but you didn't mention the Thunder Warriors, which were actually the genetically enhanced soldiers that The Emperor used to conquer Terra. It was because of flaws in the Thunder Warriors that the Emperor retooled the process and created the Primarchs, afterwhich when the Chaos Gods launched the infant Primarchs into the Warp, the Emperor used their genes to make the Space Marines.

I love warhammer 40k always liked imperial Guardsmen. But later in life found out Nurgle is everything
I feel this will be the "trickiest" exploring series universe... Well done with simplifying everything (even to the point of [for the greater good] being technically inaccurate purely due holding back detail) I agree with it especially dealing with what the warp is/how it "behaves"/what it can do. The warp can be hard to tackle (beyond surface level) Far too overwhelming when dumped on with everything else
Cant wait to see how you fill out the lore. Especially the 30k era (Fall of Cadia, Roboute returning is good, and finally there is progress.) but 30k was so full of character, and staggering spectacle, at least until the loyalist Primarchs all uneventfully vanished systematically.

Im a fan of W40k and I have to say that this is a very good video. Sure, you left out a lot, but the proper introduction to W40k would take many many hours. Yeah W40k is that insanely huge.
I know people that are intensely studying Warhammer 40 000 lore for more than 20 years and even they cannot say that they know everything about it.
