    As an INFP, I feel like I am the most contradictive person ever.
    - I want to be alone & recharge myself, but I really need someone at my darkest times, or else I will end up hurting myself because I am my biggest critic.
    - I am seen really closed off and quiet in public and new environments, but I really thrive in environments I'm already comfortable with and would easily open up amongst my closest friends and family.
    - I don't like group settings, but I'm always the one who would take charge and engange with all of the members (even if sometimes I'm not helping myself in the process).
    - I seem like I'm selfish because of my introverted self, my prefered style of doing things, and reaching my goals alone, but I would lend all my heart, soul and body to someone who's going through a hard time, even when they aren't close to me. I would listen and comfort them as much as I can because maybe I just don't want them to the feel invalidated and misunderstood like I was.
    - I feel like not wanting to do anything for others because I need time for myself, but sometimes I couldn't say "no" to someone asking for help, maybe because of having a quite high empathy and that I will feel extremely guilty and anxious of what will happen if I don't help them.
    - I don't like social events, but I wouldnt hesitate go if it's about something I really love and passionate about.
    - I love but also despice myself the most.
    edit: aaah i appreciate all the support in the replies, it's a nice reminder for us that we're not alone :)) i hope we can eventually learn to overcome these things as we grow to get-to-know & appreciate ourselves more

      ENFJ here and now i am sure that INFP is my type... Here in this world its easy to judge someone and assume that person is cold, icy etc.. But little they do care to understand the person. Everyone has their own shades, filters and way to present themselves in diffrent settings. Most of my infp frnds are considered quite, silent type, but on knowing them deeply they are pure softies

    I was initially INFJ before healing from my trauma. I felt like I was so structured and organized then because of parentification and I was basically programmed to be "responsible & mature one" and also because all of the trauma was locked away so I could function so well then because I was basically numb and living on auto pilot and people pleasing. Years later, dealt with a lot of my shit and am at my happiest, best self and definitely resonate with being an INFP. I feel that INFPs struggle with being called "selfish" a lot because feeling is literally our first instinct so please know it's okay to put yourself first, you're not selfish for listening to your feelings and you'll figure things out. Follow your heart and don't let anyone talk you out of anything that lights your heart on fire 🌈✨

  • @KokeshiAudrey

    I am both/in between INFP and INFJ. I’ve taken the MBTI test twice (once in high school, and again some years later in college). The first time, I was INFP with just 2 points over the Judging/Perceiving line on the P side, and the second time I took the test I was 3 points over the P/J line on the Judgement side. Watching this video, it’s still difficult to figure out which personality type I lean more towards. I’m very analytical and organized, but greatly enjoy art and being creative. Some days, I’m rigid and have to stick to a plan, while other days I want to be spontaneous and explore all of my options. As for my feelings, I’m very empathetic and find myself sometimes lost in loved ones emotions, but still have self-awareness for my own feelings and tend to keep them to myself. Like the video suggested, MBTI is just a reference, people are complex and don’t need to fit into one box, ya know? ^_^

    • @ayeshasiddique1476

      maybe u should check out cognitive functions to see if u have more of a dominant Ni or Fi. Being more rigid or non rigid doesn't result in u being one or the other tbh-all personalities of ppl use all the cognitive functions. also maybe check the test u take-as some may not be as accurate

    • @farzanaazmy
      @farzanaazmy ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it's fine to identify as both because the 16 personalities test are just tendencies and not a rigid grouping - it means you do have all 16 personalities, it's just that that gravitate the most towards infp or/and infj.
      I am like that as well. It's just something to remember: this is just a tool to figure out who you are and how other people works, it's not perfect but is widely accepted.

    • @senantiasa
      @senantiasa ปีที่แล้ว +2

      she sounds more like an ISFP. they often mistake themselves for INFP’s for some reason. your friend may be near 50/50 S/N. traits like a hybrid. as an INFP, i think way too much for way too long & then continue on overthinking into infinite. i even wake up in the middle of the night with new epiphanies regularly. NP’s are endless visionaries. they have a hard time knowing when to stop thinking, pick something, & act on it. NJ’s reach a conclusion much sooner, stop dwelling on more/endless possibilities, & then implement the decision. that’s why INFP’s have slightly higher IQ’s but are less successful, in general/on average, than INFJ’s. i WISH i had more J.

      As an INFP I kinda wish I was best friends with an INFJ as not only would "Letting things out" be easier, they could also help me learn a little more about how to organise my life as the feeling inside my head saying "I just don't feel like it" is too strong for me to be able to organise my life without mental crises arising every 20 minutes of a project!

    I show her the world and how it works. She shows me into her world, which is colourful and magical. I'm enriched as a result. I know this might sound offensive, but if you feel like ripping apart someone, go ahead! Only you can stop you! Feelings is just as important as thinking! But still remember to treat other people the way you want to be treated! 💖✨👑😍🌈🍬🙏💪

    I think INFPs need to remember that we should accept ourselves for who we are. Many of us seek validation because oftentimes we feel like outcasts as society doesn't favor individuality but instead favors traits that contribute more to it. As a result, we see the world as if looking out the window, wondering why everyone outside has it better than us. We end up knowing how it feels to be rejected. However with this in mind, we are able to understand many complex emotions and use our creativity to do amazing things with them. This is why INFPs are considered optimistic, authentic, and sympathetic. We are able to draw out even the smallest hint of good when it seems like there isn't any left. If you're INFP please remember to not lose your true self! It isn't easy fitting in and the chances of feeling misunderstood is high, but that doesn't mean we should automatically ignore our passions and our strengths too.

    Since it seems that everyone is already talking about the "selfish INFP" stereotype, I'll just add my own thoughts to the mix…
    I can see why certain INFP behaviors might come across as selfish to others - i.e. cancelling plans with friends, withdrawing into their own world, seemingly thinking about themselves a lot, etc.
    However, I really don't think this stems from an inherently selfish heart. A selfish person by definition is someone who has an excessive or exclusive preoccupation with themselves, to the disregard of other people's welfare. Let's face it - any personality type can fall into this trap.
    Still, all the INFP's I have met are not like this at all. In their hearts, they care very deeply about other people and truly want to help others, especially "the underdogs" of society. But because INFP's interact so deeply with others and are very connected to their emotions, they also tend to burn out a lot faster than other people. Not that other personalities don't make deep interpersonal connections - I just think the INFP combo of wanting to deeply understand others as well as themselves at the same time can make life pretty exhausting.
    Considering that INFP's are constantly evaluating the world through their emotions, it makes sense that they need a lot of self-processing time for their head to catch up with their surroundings. It's not necessarily a bad thing - it’s just the way they are made. Some people don’t need to know their feelings on something in order to interact properly - INFP's on the other hand do. And I honestly think that is ok.
    Overall, the INFPs I know would like to give so much more of themselves than what they can personally manage. Or they see other people who are able to "do more" for others, and negatively compare themselves. INFP's - you already have such a harsh inner critic, don't add more fuel to the fire! Just take your time, and give to others in your own way at your own capacity.
    Thank you for listening to my ted talk, I'll leave you in peace now.

      @mikicerise6250 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know if it's necessarily prioritizing well-being per se. I'm INFP and currently dating an INFJ. I find I get very intense protective feelings and find myself going through scenarios in my head of how would I react if they were in danger or threatened, what would be the best way to get us to safety and for me to help protect them, and none of them involve me prioritizing my well-being. 😅On the contrary, it's a foregone conclusion I'm at their side thick or thin because my feelings for them just *drive* me and I'm intensely loyal. Or... well I guess they do in a sense, because my well-being is tied up with theirs. It's more that my feelings are *always* kind of driving me. So if I feel hurt or attacked or sad, my feelings are... likewise very loud and intense, and drive me to try to protect myself too. I've had trouble throughout my life really prioritizing my own well-being and finding myself going out on a limb for people who would not reciprocate, and have had to struggle to prioritize myself more.

      INFP: Fi-Ne-Si-Te
      INFJ: Ni-Fe-Ti-Se
      None of their stack is the same. INFP's are Fi-doms, INFJ 's are Ni-doms. INFP uses Ne, while INFJ uses Ni. You can't use both Ne and Ni.
      Again, only THEORITICALLY speaking, like I understand how some people uses functions in different order than the 'typical' INFP or INFJ or whatever type, BUT THIS IS IN THEORY IMPOSSIBLE. However, at the end of the day, it's all just labels.

  • @BabyMonkeyDefender
    @BabyMonkeyDefender ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well since I was tested professionally many years ago, then tested again a few years ago, I'm an INFJ. Why did I test twice?
    The first time I was just curious. I had been reading articles about MBTI, and wondered about it.
    The second time, I was seeing a psychiatrist and she wanted to test me herself. I started to tell her what my type was but she stopped me. She said she already believed she knew, but wanted to see if she was right.
    When it came back an INFJ, she smiled and said she knew it would be this. She told me things about my personality that I hadn't read about, since it was gaining in popularity, but still wasn't well understood. So I was surprised at some of the things she says about me. I cheekily accused her of being psychic, but she just laughed then handed me a booklet she made with traits for INFJ personalities.
    Now the info is everywhere, but only through this particular channel is it consistent in a growth of more info and understanding.
    But no matter what, it holds true for me.
    Some of the things I'm learning seem to come with different phases of my life, it's uncanny and exciting to realize I'm not just some weird, strange, and complicated person. There's a method behind the madness and helps me to understand why and what is going on with me.
    My immediate supervisor is an INFP. Man you should see how well we get along.
    I sense straight away if something is troubling him, and sometimes it's so heavy I tell him I feel his angst, but there's no way I can just leave without telling him I'm here for you, because this is different for you! He's always flabbergasted, and has even tried to hide his feelings from me, only to be called out by me because I KNOW.
    On his end, he KNOWS what I'm best at doing before I have even tried. He'll assign a duty to me, and I'll tell him, I've never done that, and have no clue. He just nods his head, and tells me he'll walk through it with me for a minute, then he walks away. Me standing there wondering how the hell I'm gonna figure out the rest on my own. He knows when I'm thinking that and turns around and tells me, just dive in, you've got this! Next thing I know I'm completing the task then he and the general manager walk by and the GM stops and says PERFECT! I didn't know you knew how to do this. Before I can answer her, he jumps in and says, she can do anything, she just needs the basics and it gets done even better than I expected.
    You should see us work together on a project, it is crazy!
    Where I weigh every single pro and con, he jumps in with let's try it like this. Where he just jumps in, I say stop let's consider the easiest and fastest way, and it's a success! Little twists and turns here and there, I trust him and he trusts me.
    My strengths are his weaknesses and vice versa.
    I feel like he's my perfect younger brother. He tells people I'm like his big sister who worries too much, but never lets him down.
    Or parallels run copacetic, even perfectly in some areas.
    His wife says we are hilarious and if only we had a business together it would be the most efficient and funnest place to work.
    If only we had the money, it would be a hoot to find out.

But in terms of the two types of intuition, “Ne builds the maze, and Ni solves it”. They’re both big-picture focused, just with different ways of approach.

    As a psychology major, I can say that no test can tell your personality aspects one hundred percent accurately, human personality is quite complex and changing throughout one's life. Of course the core aspects are hard to change or maybe impossible, but every incident we experience in life adds some new aspects on or ommits some aspects from our personality. Thus, personality cannot be that simple to be defined by strict classifications. Maybe that is why, MBTI is quite popular since it implies that these attributes are only rough tendencies. Although I took the test so many times and I came out as INFPT every time, there are so many aspects I also have from other personality types. For instance, I am both intuitive and critical; I am also idealistic and into art and I am both introverted and extraverted depending on my mood, experiences or context. Also I should pursue something about art according to this Inventory but I am studying psychology at the moment and planning to study politics and be a politician because I am an idealistic person who wants to make a positive change in her country and also in the world. Therefore, this test can be taken to explore and have an idea about personality aspects but it should not be followed as a life-guide. Some people take this so seriously.

      Finally! An intellectual who spoke out my thoughts. True words have never been said. I hate how people take their personality too seriously. They think being an INFJ/INFP or any other personality type you are identified as is the CORE of who you really are when it is not. We are all different in certain aspects regardless of what your MBTI is.

      You're right; it was relieving to me when I did the MBTI test because I felt lost for many years, trying to find out why am I like the way I am. I could only see the bad parts of myself. I also have INFP-T result and I read how it was fitting to how I am mostly (though I have other traits of other personality types), it helped me to start to accept my true self without restricting me overall.

    • @kristianjensen5877
      @kristianjensen5877 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Agreed - The MBTI system should just be considered a tool to determine one's cognitive preferences and not as a determinant in terms of specific behavior. Human beings a complex and regardless of MBTI type and we all have idiosyncrasies that differ from the general pattern described by whatever type we get on a MBTI test or MBTI counselling.
      To complicate matters, past trauma and childhood wounds can seriously affect us in such a way that they make us subconsciously "override" our inherent cognitive stack preferences, causing us to be typed as something different than what our "natural" cognitive function stack would result in.
      Also, people generally seem to misunderstand the MBTI as being exclusionary (you can't use x function when you have y function in your stack), when it's simply indicative. Everyone uses all the cognitive functions of the MBTI all the time, our MBTI type just codifies which functions we prefer to use, which functions we have difficulties using and in what order we prefer to use them when experiencing existence.

      Hm idk but after reading these comments I can agree with you guys and I feel the same, but my theory (and this is out of personal experience so it might not apply to you) is that a lot of INFPs deal with insecurities and self hatred since we’re so idealistic and dream of the perfect personality that we could have. I think that we do tend to be selfish (in a normal way I guess) , but we spend too much time overthinking it. I assume we’re probably not as selfish as we think, but since we’re so idealistic and need constant validation from others, it makes us think that we are.

      Nowadays I try to take it more calmly and accept it. I dont lie and tell them they got me, as I also did at one point. I'll simply tell them I dont know how to properly explain to them what I feel, so let's just talk about something else or leave it.

    I’m an INFP… here’s a few of my internal conflicts :’)
    - I’m emotional but hardly ever know what emotions I’m feeling
    - I cry when explaining how I truly feel
    - I struggle to allow myself to cry in front of others
    - when someone asks a question that begins to trigger tears, I don’t answer to keep from crying.
    - I’m a perfectionist and the worst criticism comes from myself
    - but criticism from others is even worse because my inner critic goes, “see, I told you you weren’t good enough.”
    - I have two moods- introspective and mellow, or bubbly optimist who just can’t get over how BEAUTIFUL those water drops are.
    - I always want hugs from *specific* people, but never know how to ask for them.
    - I constantly write long, elaborate texts explaining how I feel, lock my phone, and then delete them a few minutes later.
    - in every new journal / sketchbook I write this inside the cover: “if found, please TEXT to :________”

    I took many online mbti tests. Some gave me INFP and some gave me INFJ. That made me watch several comparing INFP and INFJ videos, but didn’t find a clear indication which shows I am which one of those cuz I have many things related to both of types equally. Until I found a video about "can u have 2 mbti personalities if u have something related to more than 1 type?" The answer is no and ur type cannot be changed cuz u were born with it. The reason why u feel u r related to more than 1 type is u grow up and some of ur cognitive function have developed. I totally agree with that cuz I always feel like I’m infp with more punctual, planning and organizing version cuz I am always taught by my family to organize everything carefully and professionally, but when I was a kid I was not good at organizing things at all. That makes many mbti tests mistyped me as INFJ. Another thing that makes me even more sure that I am INFP is the names of both personalities "mediator" and "counselor" What both personalities have in common is they like helping people especially by listening to their problems and help them figure out what to do. I realized that when people tell me their problems, I always say something to make them feel better, cheer them up and make them understand themselves more about what they want then suggest them multiple options of what they should do. That’s what mediators do. While INFJ people will give clear a advice and come up with a specific solution. That’s why they’re called counselors.

      Yeah my friends told me that i was more like a child so they can't did a deep talk with me as i seems can't understand their problems. After several depression times, i just realized that i can be selfish if i am 'right'. I just enjoying myself and I don't have to hang out too long with my friends to just stay update with them.
      But for you all my friends, i just suggest you to open your mind and truly feel the story of the people around you, not just heard it and pass it by. Because if you understand them, when your other friends comes to you to have a deep talk, you can gave them "your perspective" from what you have understanded before. Don't be too honest because it can hurting people and also because maybe it's just your "perspective" that sometimes can be blurred. You have to ask yourself whether it is a right things to do/say or not, try it until you can believe in yourself to take the judgement.
      And then you can be a selfish person, in a good way!

    Hi, I'm an INFJ... My friend introduced the MBTI test to me.
    I took the test for a few times and the results were just the same.
    Because of that, I gradually understand why am I acting and feeling this way.
    The realizations of how I helped other people without thinking about my own self, putting down my pride as if I do not care of myself, why I can put myself in their shoes so easily....
    I also started to became so interested about reading people's emotion based on their MBTI after.
    This helped me a lot to understand others, but it's actually tiring...
    It was like there's a lot of explanations in my mind that I want to tell to my family & close friends, but I'm just ignoring it. It was like no need to tell them, It was like my mind is telling me that If I tell my story to them... I might say, either too much of information or I might say it incorrectly.
    (So they might misunderstood me)

    -No conversation excites me unless until it's profoundly deep and honest.

    -i love my alone time but get bored easily, yet will still choose to be in my own world.

    -i choose wisely where to put my energy in chores or work that at times I easily can come off as being lazy and I don't mind it at all.
    -i give less important to what you think of me and more focus on how I feel when I'm with you but I drag the unworthy relationship for years because of the guilt of ditching someone which in return turns me into a depressive sad person.
    -i always believe in the good in you even when you are a stranger to me and most often I get hurted because of my naivety.

Because whenever I'm listening to someone even speak about their problems I kinda think about myself, like if I were in their position what would I do, in order to understand the gravity of their problem... But isn't that what putting yourself in someone else's shoes mean?

    • @thehunt098
      @thehunt098 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Yes and no. You are trying to understand how they are feeling from YOUR perspective which is the "selfish" part. INFJs are putting themselves in another's shoes from the other person's perspective (ignoring or being unaware of their own) most of the time. Both are great for working to have empathy, the first will appear more sympathetic rather than empathetic without some fine tuning. Doing either will display a great deal of compassion if acted on.

    A few years back I was tested as an INFP. Now I test as an INFJ but that final letter, the J, is just barely, at 51% to 49%. So I tend to vary with how I analyze organize my thoughts and my surroundings.
    At my core I still think I'm an INFP because of my love for fantasy, art, literature, for being an idealist and running with my emotions. But I can't deny that from reading into experiences I fall into the INFJ category heavily too. It's really interesting how these tests can help someone understand themselves, even if it is just a rough guideline.

    Also( i think this would apply to both types mentioned here): It is exhausting to try to live up to the positive perceptions that others may have of us. The desire to be authentic and understood can look like selfishness and inflexibility. Trying to be in a place where we can help other people is hard enough if you are constantly questioning the value of your “help” Maybe INFJs are better at prioritizing their empathy above whatever thoughts they may have about it. INFPs need more time,but are capable of arriving at a logical solution( eventually).

    As an infp I feel like this video is the one who understood me the most, I like to take make my ow opinions and will be stubborn until someone tells me a logical reason to why my idea can turn out bad, even if they advice me not to, I will most of the time unless its a huge risk, I am very good at hiding my emotions and am a really confident person around my friends but not around strangers, I have friends who dont have a perspective the same as mine, I really get annoyed by it, I pretend to understand but I dont really understand their point of view and always think my idea is superior over theirs but if they give me an idea which i think is better then mine, then i will immediately accept it, I am called selfish at many occasions and I accept it, I have a huge amount of empathy and will still help someone who hurt me in the past or is my enemy, My mind is constantly joking with it self, I would joke about a bad thing in my mind and will be like "jk, jk ,jk" inside my mind, I will take my feelings as a "joke" to cope with it, basically I joke alot, both with my friends and in my mind, Sometimes jokes hurt me but I will laugh at them and reply with a comeback feeling as if my anger is in my heart and wants to break the persons heart like they broke mine but at other times i will feel sorry for the same person. I constantly say "I hate life" but whenever i get a good thing, I say "I love life", I would always keep myself busy in one thing or another or else my thoughts will get to me and make me feel vulnerable. I have no idea how to comfort someone because I have never been comforted myself, If I grow an obsession, Its really hard to let go, I am not afraid to raise my voice, I am afraid to hurt other peoples feelings.

    As an INFP and friends of two INFPs, I know that INFPs are self centered and make choices based on their beliefs instead of truths. The foundation of their beliefs are built from experience and emotions. A lot of people think this is a bad thing, which it is not. Because INFPs are more in tune with their feelings than others, they are honest to themselves and know when others are being dishonest. So, INFPs can see exactly what someone is feeling and why. They know when someone is influencing them and how, and know when they are feeling destructive emotions like jealousy, obsessive hatred, possessiveness, etc. For these reasons they have a lot of knowledge about psychology, and they know how to harness their own feelings to use it for good. They are good listeners and make others feel comfort in letting out their feelings. When INFPs make choices, they take notice how a specific choice is going to affect others. Some of the bad INFPs manipulate people into thinking they are lesser than they really are and sometimes are not aware of how bad their actions were. They do not reflect on what they did, and always focus on other people’s mistakes. They can be impulsive, too. I hope people realize that INFPs are not just trashy crybabies that are self centered and do not know how to do anything. Please do not emphasize the flaws of INFPs and make them look awful. They are great friends to have!
    Edit: I am glad a lot of people are seeing this comment! I only emphasized the "bad" aspects of infps because 1) I do believe in these bad aspects, I can see a lot of these traits in my friends who are infps 2) it seems like I am supporting the idea that infps are superior if I only speak out about the good traits.
    here are some more things I would like to add in my comment to add some positivity (I also deleted some unnecessary words and phrases in the original comment to make it shorter): infps do not judge or assume the amount of pain others might be receiving for themselves. This is because they know that they don't know everything--especially other people's backgrounds. So, instead of trying to comprehend how much pain others might be feeling, they try to understand be supportive. They will be there for you when you are having a hard time :)

      I dont think they only focuses on other's mistake rather they blame themselves first and try to understand the situation.

      Yes! A lot of the INFPs in the comments seemed incredibly upset by this, when that’s not the case. There’s nothing wrong with prioritising yourself and your experiences. I lean towards INFJ so maybe that’s why I didn’t take the results of this video as personally, because I could tell what they meant when they said the ‘negative’ things about INFPs. It’s factual differences. INFJs aren’t better because they study other people more than themselves

      @@grayolsen8769 the thing is, we don't even care about ourselves. We always take the blame on ourselves.

      As an infp I had a friend who was going through a very hard time and I would always be there 100% of the way. Then when I asked my other friends for advice on how to better support my struggling friend, they called to attention the truth about their behavior. My struggling friend lived off the sympathy of others and never truly tried improving themselves. Rather they lived in their own bubble of constantly needing attention and sympathy. They were living off being a victim. This connection was insanely toxic and dishonest which is something as an infp, I really hate in a person so I cut them off. Unfortunately when I did they instantly threw hate and I got backlash being called "selfish". I felt a bit guilty but then I realized that taking care of my own needs and not just trying to take care of everybody else was a perfectly normal thing to do.
      In conclusion, I tried helping someone who didn't want to change. Don't try to hold onto a connection my fellow infp's, thinking that you can change someone when they don't actually want to change themselves. You're just wasting your precious time and energy going in circles.

    Well I'm an INFP and my friend is INFJ and we are way too similar yet different at the same time!! That's why I clicked on the video as soon as I read the thumbnail and it really really helped 😊
