    Dark Cloud is a series I wish lasted into later generations. There's so much potential with that formula. Probably my favorite PS2 rpg series that isn't by Square Enix or Atlus.

    Man, I would love you to cover Dark Cloud or Dark Chronicles. There is a ton of nostalgia in these games to me, as they are just "fun". No false sense of grandeur, no pretentiousness, just plain and simple fun. I think thats what Level 5 excels at.

    This game, God this game!
    The PS2 is my favorite console hands down. Spent most of my early teenage years on it and love it to this day.
    There was one game I wanted for years but never got the money nor could I find it anyway. This was Rogue Galaxy!
    So finally buying it a few years ago was such a joy.

    Galaxy Corp, Factory (In editing), Le Marie Glennecia, and Shadow of the Sun are my fav tracks. I thoroughly enjoyed the game combat was simple with the button mashing aspects sort of like Dynasty Warriors. Characters where kinda interesting too. But i loved the factory for making the toys make the toys. I love puzzles and thats what it was for me. I truly love this game and its very underrated IMO.

    "If I'm going on an adventure throughout the Galaxy, I better see more than Humans and Humanoids."
    THANK YOU!
    ........Granted the party here still fits the latter, Humanoid doesn't mean human looking, it means bipedal and 2 arms and legs.
    Your thinking of 'Near-Human'.

    • @samflood5631
      @samflood5631 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All there are a lot of companions in Rogue Galaxy who are either robots or anthropomorphic aliens. Hell, the three main antagonists, who are greedy executives don’t even look human at all. It’s good that Rogue Galaxy is one of those JRPG that has companions that aren’t even human at all, like Ni No Kuni 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 9, 10 and 12 and Legend of Dragoon.

    Great channel! It's always interesting seeing someone else's perspective on older games. It also takes a lot a perseverance and patience to play many older games, due to the dated mechanics. Much respect for tackling these older games despite their shortcomings by modern standards.
    Anyway, I'd love to see you do reviews of two games - one old and one new. Growlanser 2 is an old PS2 game that I think you may appreciate for it's sprite work and battle system. Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana is a newer game that I recently played, and added it to my list of favorite JRPGs. I think you'll really like Ys 8.

    Played this back in the day on a PS2, whew. This game has a lot of systems and some grind if you want to get past certain dungeons. There are weapon recipes that require you to grind with sub par weapons, the factory, which is crazy, and the combat is blink and you're dead. Unfortunately, the tougher parts she mentioned (monster hunting / crafting / side quests) are all necessary to get the higher level gear.
    A very in depth and honest review.

  • @sweetwheatsy
    @sweetwheatsy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My lord, I recall playing this game in my midteens over a long period of time, and I especially remember reaching the final boss (or well, that whole gauntlet), dying and being disatisfied with how far back the checkpoint took you. I ragequit, and then... never picked it back up, thus never finishing it; like, c'mon dude, you've spent such a long time on this game and had the patience for all the other difficult parts, now this is where you throw it in?
    But yeah, without noticing the grander story that much, I pretty much related to every point you put forth. Good shiz.

    ok. so, first things first, those earrings are amazing, thanks for spreading the word because we need more people to buy from PoC artists.
    second, now i really want to play this game. i’ve been sitting on a copy i bought years ago for PS2 with the mentality that “i’ll play it eventually”, while always pushing it back in the queue for other, newer games.
    third, my favorite PS2 game that isn’t related to SquareEnix is definitely Dokapon Kingdom! it’s such a cute and unique board game style adventure that gives an RPG twist to normal, run of the mill, move five spaces and get money for your next star or chaos emerald. it’s great!

    Actually, Mimic are very easy to kill if you know the trick to them, fire the gun that creates a platform on them, and jump on them and keep bouncing, it'll kill them in a few hops.

  • @xilverknight155
    @xilverknight155 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's a quick tip for mimics.
    If you use the monography shot on them, the platform spawns on their head and then you can jump on it for good chunks of damage while avoiding having to fight it directly. Just set your party to disengage, hit it with the monography shot and then jump on its head until it's dead!

  • @TruePerception
    @TruePerception 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I seem to remember Mimics being slightly different. Like, one shade off. And, you don't have to die if your third player goes down. Just immediately jump to the menu, and revive your people. It gives you, maybe, half a second?

    • @PelvicGaming
      @PelvicGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. The mimics looked identical to chests. I'm pretty sure once all three characters are down. It's game over. Now the game is good about letting you have 1 HP before you go down. So you have to act fast. But that doesn't change the fact how hard enemies hit and how annoying it is to live in the menu. EDIT: Holy shit you're actually right. Mimic's have locks on them. I NEVER noticed.

    I had high expectations for this game, though I'm not surprised with the result. Level 5 never excelled at "grandiose" games. This and Ni No Kuni 2 pale in comparison to similar games.
    Their smaller games are much tighter and overall better experiences.

  • @samfrito
    @samfrito 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Glad to see you tackle RGalaxy. I definitely tried to love this game for about a decade and a half before coming to the conclusion there are much better Level 5 games and this game is just arduous and less fun than it appears. I think it's the battle system that sucked the chrome off my male cheerleader trophy. I loved the graphics and the outfits you discover. I now realize that Rogue does a few things very right, but mostly is out to do you wrong. Your wisdom is, as always, duly appreciated.

    I really loved this game back in 2008 when I played it for the first time. When it came to PS4 digitally, I instant purchased it and told myself I was going to beat it all over again. I had rose tinted glasses about the game. I have a lot of the same feelings you did about the combat, and just did not find the game fun a second time. I feel it has not aged well.

  • @AlexTenThousand
    @AlexTenThousand 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I lovingly call this game "One Piece, but in space", since some of the progression elements within the story and the general feel remind me of the series, even though some of the emotional beats (like a couple of deaths) really fall short due to not having enough time to care about said characters.

    Those are great earrings, thank you very much for highlighting Culture Beautiful! I will definitely show that to some of my buddies who might dig it.
    As for fave PS2 game not of those listed, hmm, probably Suikoden 5.

    I remember loving this game so much but that was damn near 13 years ago! Did you do the after game dungeon? It's cool because you meet a "new" character.

    This game was kinda perfect for me as a kid-- sci fi RPG with a ton of side stuff to do/collect to scratch my 100%-completion-or-delete-save-file itch

    Thanks for the review. I have been kinda balking at this for a while on ps4 and it slipped past my radar when it was on ps2. I think I'll finally give it a shot.

    Favorite PS2 game for me is the .hack//G.U. trilogy, such nostalgic and amazing games for me and they recently got a remaster that bundles all 3 together on the PS4 and PC! I hope you check them out because I can't recommend then enough for amazing music, world building and heart wrenching moments! I feel that the gameplay and especially the dungeon design doesn't quite hold up but if your decent at them you can blast through it really easily and it can get fun in its own way.

    Looks a lot like ff12. They have a gambit system, monster hunting sidequests, a battle system that's a mix of real time and turn based, and it takes place during a war that your characters aren't actually fighting in.

    My favorite PS2 RPG is Suikoden V but the one I like the most that can be bought for PS4 via the Playstation Store is Dark Cloud 2.

    Favourite playstation 2 game is mos def Persona 3. The game play is amazing and it is visually very nice for PS2. Demon collecting is so much fun in the SMT series in general.
