There are a lot of hidden things about Suikoden 2 that you probably wouldn't realize on the first playthrough.. 1. Did you know that when Shu joined, the coin we found in the river is not his, but Richmond's? Yeah, Shu cheated us, but Richmond cheated him back. 2. Did you know that the wooden Amulet Luca Blight found in the forest before his last breath was actually Pilika's and it was Jowy who put it up there? He and Leon calculated the raid so good that they know Luca Blight will ended up cornered there, and the wooden amulet is more of like the finishing touch of their master plan. It's not actually confirmed, but it makes sense. And if you pay a little more attention, the wooden amulet will disappear from your special inventory after you were splitted up from Jowy (he really took it) 3. Rowd actually has a blind little sister. He did what he did to earn more money so he can take his little sister to Toran Republic and get treated there by the famous doctor from Suikoden 1, Liukan And there are actually tons more of these.. like seriously, Suikoden II IS SO FREAKING RICH OF BACKGROUND STORIES, IT'S LIKE A WHOLE NEW COMPLEX WORLD
Pelvic Gaming yeah, even the Luca Blight's background story is very interesting, like how he ended being the big bad guy And about the the #3 you can actually talk with Rowd's blind sister when you were in Kyaro Town.. it was sooo sad it made can't hate Rowd, and I actually kinda glad he run away and just gone like that when Highland almost fell
Murtadhi Mu'tashim I really wish they gave more insight to Luca...I get it's a touchy subject but I wanted it clearly stated in the game. Maaan idgaf. Rows can kiss my ass. He pissed me off one to many times.
There is the Genso Suikogaiden visual novel games that follows Nash the swordsmen of Harmonia during the events of Suikoden II that give you some extra information. (Sadly they were never officially localized to English, but there are fan translations.)
you know Haiyo? master cooking in suikoden II, he is shun min's husband.. shun min is one of Star of Destiny in suikoden V, yes..they have an ironic story
This game changed my view and stay within me until today. The story is INSANE, the game play is so engaging who still remember Hai Yo mode?? Mukumuku gang? I'd prefer playing this rather than super HD game with so-so gameplay and story line.
Suikoden 2 is one of the best RPGs from the entire PS1 library. I love 2D sprite based JRPGs too and prefer well done 2D graphics over poorly done 3D anytime.
Ive played Suikoden II for the first time when i was like 13, and to this day(i'm now 30) Luca has burned into my mind as one of (if not THE) most strongest and memorables villains in any story. That boss battle...damn When you finally defeat him you feel it like a huge acomplishment and like the entire world of the game is gonna change for it
@@caaltaes732 he shouldn't be the final boss. Empires arent made by one man. This was the mistake the first game made wars do not end because one person or a handful of people fall there is always someone else to pick up the pieces and that's what I've always taken away from that scene.
They need to freakin' make more Suikoden games... It's too epic to be over... I really want to know more about Pesmerga & Yuber, and stuff like that...
I never thought hearing someone reviewing your favorite game could be this exciting, especially the positive ones. but I wasn't happy only because of your positive comments, but also you gave new insights to appreciate the game more like I never really aware of that status animation change could be very important. and Luca was really an amazing villain. He didn't only scare me whenever I see him, but also made me sympathize him the moment before he died. I feel like the fireflies that he freed from whatever container was that symbolizing the very Last bit of sanity and kindness that he had after the death of his mother. suikoden 3 and 4 are not my favorite for different reason. 3 is actually a good game, but it wasn't as good as 2 and it lost the feel of suikoden for me. many of the lore of suikoden missing, especially the significant of true runes and 108 stars (if you don't realize from the 2 suikoden games, they're needed to controll the True Runes changing from its enraged stage into its mercy state, and help the bearer unleashing the Rune true power). in 3, you only need them as a bonus for a certain character's arc. this degradation of the mighty true runes which for a person who loved suikoden world building more than anything like me hit me really Hard. suikoden 4 is bad because... well, bad. Bad here I mean if you compare the game to other games in the franchise. experience it yourself. and for the questions 1. who and what is your favorite character and rune in the game? 2. your favorite game in final fantasy franchise or Suikoden II? and yeah, thanks. you make me interested in Nier Automata and other Games like Xenoblade too. can't wait for another review :) P.S. if I'm not wrong, the only suikoden game that didn't require you to walk around the castle is Suikoden Woven Web of a Century which only released in Japan... so I'm not sure.
No lie this game is one of my favorite life experiences, it just came at the right time. The story was so rich, personal and meaningful, and the character chemistry is incredible. Thanks for the great review!!
Nice review! We disagree on some points, but it's always good to have different perspectives! I played it when it came out so it was a mighty different world of gaming. I personally LOVED the tactical war battles. Putting together my squads and moving them round the field was really fun for me, but I love strategy games so it's a total genre thing I think. If you're not about it, it's not the end of the world! I always look forward to them though. One thing on fast travel - in the late 90s, this WAS was fast travel. Being able to open up a world map and blink somewhere just wasn't really as common a concept in games of that era, where as now it's a staple. It may not be as glamorous as sailing the skies in an airship like Final Fantasy, but Suikoden's system is actually a lot faster ;) I never thought twice about it at all. As for the random encounters, one thing you didn't mention that I think is great about Suikoden is the AUTO function on battles. One click to make 6 people attack and get through the battle made travelling so much less of a chore. That plus the fast travel did cut out a lot of the braindead part of JRPGs :D I love that you enjoyed Luca so much, he really is such a great villain in the sense that he makes you HATE him. On the flipside of that, the fact that he's out of the picture halfway through? And that they move on to a conflict more poignant? GENIUS. I know we spoke about it earlier but I really hope you enjoy Suikoden 3!!! (subbed in anticipation ^-^)
my favorite game ever, you can see how badass luca was from the battle, he got shot with arrows a few time but still can manage 3 groups of 6 people, and if you look closely, the way he attack, he use the rune of fire on his own body to make his sword burning on fire , and attack not just one, but 2 or 3 of your teammates at the same freakin time :D great review, thank you so much for review this amazing game
Luca's battle made me really appreciate how the creators developed him. In order for it to have the impact that it did, the creators had to establish him as a total badass, which they did! Not only was he intimidating through his fighting skills, he was also intimidating through his personality. And the fact that it took the bulk of the army to take him down?! Man! So epic!!!
Hello, Lady Pelvic! I was curious about whether you'd be interested in appearing on our podcast sometime over the next couple of weeks! If you haven't seen our videos or our podcast feel free to take a quick look before responding, but we'd love to have you if you want to do it. If you want to discuss the details you can send me a message on twitter @mcbreest, on facebook (facebook(dot)com/darkpixelgames), or email at contact.darkpixel@gmail Hope to talk to you soon! -Mike
Your reviews are real good, please keep up these retro ones!!! So nice to hear a non biased perspective on the classics, with a pretty and eloquent lady as a bonus.. What can I say besides: More please!
Lucca Blight is indeed one of the greatest boss fights ever. The only other boss fight i think reach a similar note is Miguel from Chrono Cross. There the music, the difficulty, the dialogue, the reasons why you fight, everything as a whole make one of the most melancholic boss battle ever.
I love how emotionally invested you get in the games you play, it really shows in your videos, if you haven't already played it I'd recommend Legend of Mana, the storyline is a little obscure to start with but it's more about familiarizing yourself with the sub characters as your main character has no dialogue, I found it a really fun game to return to now and again :)
Great review as always sis. Keep doing your thing with high passion and enthusiasm. You were anointed for this Lady Pelvic. Continue to makes us excited to play nostalgic games.
Morris Simpson AWW thank you so much!!! That's super sweet of you!! I hope I convinced a few people to try out this brillant game. Cause it is that damn good.
It's a bit late at this point and I'm not trying to sound like a smarty pants, but if you ever find yourself wanting to replay Suikoden 1 then there is a convoluted way of running; the Holy Rune and the True Holy Rune. It sucks that you'd have to give up a rune slot for the ability to run, but having a person in your party with either of these runes allows you to run, the True Holy Rune even allows you to run on the world map, if memory serves. I only found out about this years after first playing the game, but in later playthroughs I always made Gremio my designated dasher by giving him a Holy Rune. As for how to get one, I believe that the Holy Rune is dropped by the mosquitoes around the starting area and it can be bought later in Kaku, the True Holy Rune comes affixed to the blue haired elf Stallion. Anyway, loved the reviews!
Your love and fair review of Suikoden made me subscribe. I so look forward to you experiencing the rest of the series. Some space between 2 would be good. I had a hard time jumping right into 3 because of various changes, but after a second attempt some time later, I absolutely love it. It helps that it was written by the same person as the first 2 games. And S5 is a great call back to Suikoden 2.
Thank you kindly! I look forward to experiencing them myself! I think I'll play 3 a bit later in the year. I have a hard time playing series games back to back to back. I get exhausted. I heard 3-4 are alright but I want to make my own judgement. I wish S5 was on psn... only 1-4 are at the moment. /Le sigh
Good call on waiting some time. And yeah it's a bummer 5 is not on there. I wish I had an extra copy to share! As much as I love the series, I am ashamed to say I also have not played part 4 yet.
Review came out great. I’m also surprised Luca doesn’t get brought up as much as a phenomenal villain in gaming. Many people I know praise this game, but hardly bring that up along with other popular choices.
I think it's because Luca seems kind of one dimensional until you learn his backstory. Which is easy to miss when playing through the game or if you haven't done a wiki search. But I agree he's an incredible villian.
I've just started this, I am a bit late to the table, but enjoying it thus far, I've been busy with a massive back catalogue, which I stupidly keep adding to.
This was a great review, (to be fair all reviews I’ve watched in your channel have been great). I always hear people praising this game I believe I even downloaded it for the Vita and never tried to start it. Normally I don’t care for older games I missed out on, but a few I think hold historical value worth having an educated opinion about. Your review makes me want to give this game a try!
One thing I love in Suikoden is how there are good and bad people on both sides of the conflict. I quite liked Seed and Culgan, who truly loved their country and gave everything to defend it, so even while you are never their friends there is a sense of honor with them. Meanwhile on the side of the war you find yourself on there are some completely selfish asshats and some outright traitors. Even in the past, Darell the former Mayor of Muse was a horrible person, and he is at least in part responsible for the monster that Luca Blight would later become. To me it gives the games far more depth than just the "Good guys vs bad guys" dynamic you get in a lot of games - it's people who find themselves fighting for their own reasons, whether right or wrong.
I felt the same way. Especially for Culgan. He seems like a really great guy who's just unfortunately fighting for the other side. I'm not sure if he and Seed actually died but i hope they didn't.
Awesome review, and Luca Blight is one of the top 5 best villains EVER! An arrow rain and 3 party battles and he still wants more (and kills you in 2-3 duel hits! )?!? THAT's a bad guy!
I knew you’d like this series. I’m really glad another person has entered the hectic fandom lol. Did you like McDohl and Gremio’s inclusion in the game? That was indeed a nice touch. What is a series you have heard of - game or non - that you wanted to try? Would you ever consider RPG Maker titles - like Exit Fate (a Suikoden-like game) - for your Let’s Plays or reviews?
If you liked suikoden 2 and would love to know more about it (especially about Luca Blight!) then I would highly HIGHLY suggest playing Genso Suikogaiden Vol.1 and 2!! Trust me you'll love it!A quick heads up, it wasn't released outside Japan But it did receive a full English Translation Patch, also its a Visual Novel type of game so don't expect any amazing gameplay BUT expect a lot of great fleshed out characters from the suikoden 2 universe!
Even though Luca is an nonredeemable Villain and he deserves to be ended, but i still feel sad on the story why he hates the Highland :/. Imagine Luca sees his father just cowardly escape and forced to witness his mother getting rape. Don't agree with Luca's method but at least i understand why he become so maniacal. That what makes a great villain.
First of all really love your reviews of Suikoden...I've been playing them since 2001 and super fan (not of 3 and 4 lol). Best Suikoden games by far are 2 and 5 their story is simply out of this world. Keep it up really like the content :) [coincidentally started playing it again last week before seeing this review...played it about 11 times by now I know every little detail]
I was waiting for this review! Whenever you review a game it's like listening to a friend tell me how much they like a game i recommended (even though I was just a voice in a crowd). Luca Blight is one of the most intimidating characters ever, even his final stand is intimidating and hard. I genuinely hope to hear your thoughts of the other Suikodens even 4 (which everyone bad mouths) but I think you'd have an honest and fresh perspective on it. 1. I know you only have so much time in a day, what are your requirements for picking an older not as well known game? I'd always recommend Shadow Hearts 1+2 (PS2), but they are super obscure, and as much as I'd love to hear your take, I don't expect you to do a video of a game just for my benefit. 2. Who were the Suikoden characters you tried to have on your team as much as possible?
Luca Blight 1 of my top villains. It took 3 fights AND a duel to take him down. Then he says "It took hundreds to kill me, but I killed humans by the thousands! 😮💀
Suikoden 1 and 2 is some of my all time favorite RPGs, and yeah Luca Blight is crazy :) I can also recommend the wild arms series, breath of fire series, grandia, the legend of dragoon, Lunar silver star story and Lunar 2, Chrono cross, Arc the lad series, dragon quest 7 on ps1 and dq8 on ps2 just to mention a few Worth checking up that is not final fantasy games i can think of straight up. Not to mention alot of classics on the snes to- They just dont make good turnbased RPGs anymore, the last one i thought was really good was lost odyssey on Xbox 360, that game is what final fantasy 13 should have been, i actually dont own a ps4 or Xbox one so cant say much about this generation but from what i have seen there is not much that looks good among RPGs they all are actionbased now almost.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game. I'd like to know more about who you particularly liked for party members and why... As for Suikoden III and IV... I feel like III at least captured a lot of the emotions of I and II, but they tried some new mechanics and those didn't work so well. IV had more standard mechanics, but the writing felt like a bad imitation (not horrible, just not as good). As for two questions... 1. How do you like being an internet famous TH-camr? 2. What game or game series would you recommend for us Suikoden addicts that hits the heart strings like Suikoden 2? Oh and yes, that timed character quest? That's bullshit. I've probably played Suikoden II 1-2 times a year since it came out and still haven't bothered trying to get that nonsense. The Suikogaiden games get a little into the story of the girl involved, so if you are curious, the walkthroughs of that explain it pretty good.
I see she is playing the game which is often considered the best in the series. It is one of my wife's favourite games of all time even though she prefers Suikoden V over Suikoden II. I've only beaten the first Suikoden game but I still need to go back in order to fully complete it. I still haven't played the second entry in the series but I do look forward to it since Luca Blight is often regarded as one of the best jrpg villains of all time. Get ready for Suikoden III because it throws one of the biggest plot twists in the Suikoden world and its going to blow your mind, I hope nobody spoiled it for you. My wife was very lucky to get a copy of this game for incredibly cheap for the ps1 at a bargain bin at canadian tire during the late 1990's. This only happened because Suikoden wasn't recognized as a popular jrpg franchise and was widely ignored when the first two entries came out. I think one jrpg villain that doesn't get enough credit is definitely lezard valeth from the valkyrie profile series but that's just my personal opinion. I'll throw two questions at you for your 5000 subscriber special. 1.) What do you think is your best game with regards to your own personal skill, or better yet what game do you think your the best at compared to the average person? 2.) What shampoo do you use to make your hair so vibrant??????
you can run in Suikoden 1 by having Stallion in your party; I also believe you can equip stallions rune to other members of your party allowing you to run without him.
oh my god im so glad i found your channel, this is exactly what i was looking for in youtube gaming channels. this video gave me such a nostalgia bomb, hot damn also i'm living for that lipstick
Dont you just love it when you start having this first 1v1 fights or tactical fights when you starting the war. Seeing your Castle grow the more time you invest in getting more and more peoples and youre just soo god damn feeling it. I love it and played it when i was 8years old. Im 24 today and i would still say, its the best RPG i've ever played. No Doubts on that.
My personal tip in playing suikoden 2 is to first grind for double-beat early game as well gale. at least 5 each. It makes random encounters a breeze and helps you a lot through-out the game as these runes are quite useful. A veritable alpha strike strategy for your party, you get to kill monsters before they get a turn in. Nanami specially benefits from double-beat as she has really good speed stats early on. You don't even have to give her gale at all. Double-beat are drops from Cut-rabbits and Gale is from Sickle. Best time to get them is before you go and kill the Mist-monster, the first boss of the game as the dungeon will be locked for a long-time if you kill it. Of course, this is if you like pressing the auto-battle a lot :)
An unsung villain? Oh wow.... I'd have to go with Psaro the Manslayer from Dragon Quest IV. Depth and motivations on display, but the real crime to ME is the fact that Sephiroth, creatively, is damn near a clone of Psaro, yet got way more media attention and long term relevance. Now for my two questions: 1.) Video game related - Do you think the PS1 era or PS2 era was more instrumental in bringing JRPGs prominently into the western sphere? 2.) What's your favorite work of fiction, in terms of novels or short stories?
A lady of my own heart~ Subbing! And I love this game to death more than anything! Iron Chef duels, amazing soundtrack, spectacular sprite work, Luca Blight is a devilishly evil, one of my favorite RPGs, let alone, video games of all time! And 3 is not bad, but 4 is the black sheep. I can guarantee you that, but 5 ain't half bad.
Or you can play Alliance Alive next! Coming march for the 3ds, the guy who wrote Suikoden worked on it!!! Anyways i could imagine how difficult it was to review the game without spoilers because that one fight vs the ahem bearded guy was really epic. Beautiful review as always, beautiful voice, beautiful opinion, and fitting dark attire for the coverage of Luca Blight
*Spoilers if you haven't played, obviously* Hurray! Well done. Super enjoyable review. I got some "feels" when you were passionately talking about Luca. It really is a well done character. Which is odd, because in any other story, a character as one dimensional and shallow as Luca Blight would be a BAD thing. Yet, Suikoden does such a good job of creating a morally grey, realistic world where all the "villians", like Jowy, Kiba, etc, are just people on a different side of the war and not really truly villianous. And yet, Luca comes along, and is truly evil. So much so, that ultimately, he's betrayed by his own "side" just because he's such a piece of sh*t. It's an amazing dynamic...and the moment when he dies is probably one of the most bittersweet moments I've ever experienced in gaming. At that moment, when you're lording over his dead body, it's not triumphant at all..It's like the last bit of "Child like" innocence in the Suikoden 2 world dies, and the game takes on an even WORSE, dreadful tone. Masterful. Thanks for the review, can't wait to watch it again.
Great review. Disagree about the character recruitment thing. One of the aspects of this game is that you're supposed to play it through once, and of course you aren't going to get the true ending. Then you play it again, and you get the real ending and use a guide if you can't figure something out. It added replay value. Back in the day this was really important, especially if you were in school and couldn't afford to buy games. But you're reviewing it today, so its perfectly reasonable to come to the conclusion you did. That's it, great stuff!
exactly its not meant to be googled how to find every character your having a hard time recruiting. That ruins the game. also the perfect ending is so hard to get naturally you would have to perfectly fluke it
As soon as you said "most iconic scene" I didn't even need to watch to know. It's the first scene that comes to mind when I think of Luca. I do miss the PS1 era, and need to replay these games. Your synopsis of the game made me realize how little I recall of the story of the Suikoden games, and I loved them so much. A series I miss a lot for sure. Great review :)
I never played but i heard so many good things about it. I bought for the ps3 but i'm waiting to have a lot of time just for play. I think it deserves a lot of attention.
Have you heard of the Suikogaiden volumes? I've never played them, as they were never released outside of Japan, but they are both visual novel side stories that occur during Suikoden II. The openings of each game are on TH-cam.
Gregminister is kinda a different continent already? a different kingdom for a different setting. Maybe that's why you can't blink to there. But I agree should have a better way to get there
*Please be sure to leave TWO questions (video game related or not)! One of which I'll be answering in my next video! Thank you for getting me to 6,100!! xoxo*
Hi there! I'm a fan of your channel and I share your area of interest which is heavily jrpgs. A couple questions I guess: What city do you live in and do they have a good videogame convention/cosplay scene? Also, if you could get into making videogames, would you?
I never played this until recently when it was 10 dollars on psn. Until then i couldn't find it for anything less than 100 dollars. I didn't like it as much as 3 or 1. 3 is just superior than 1, 2, 4, 5, and tactics. I think the reason i like 1 more is that i got it when it first came out, so it was my first game to have that many characters. (Shining force 1 and 2 had around 30) It meant more when i was young. This one would've too, but i didn't play it till now. I remember getting 1 and the first wild arms at the same time using xmas money. :) Good memories.
Another great review that took me back thanks.. and now for questions 1. How do you feel about your channel now versus when you started 2. Will you show any of your art, since you mentioned you do art
Great review. I played Suikoden 2 last year for the first time, and it's now my favorite rpg on the original playstation. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.
I like to think that hes using the fire rune to burn his sword so he can use stronger attack, he doesnt care if he got burned from the rune as long that he can be stronger, and also he doesnt like to use the rune to damage people because he wont have the satisfaction of slashing some maggots and pigs
Pelvic Gaming I'm glad you liked suikoden 2 it's one of my favorite RPGs. Ranks right up there with my all time favorite RPGs. The neclord boss music was great. My personal favorite is the music you hear when battling Luca blight. That music was so intense and,the fight felt like it lasted forever. It takes 3 parties of 6 to take his ass down lol. He was completely insane and powerful due to his insanity. Truly a great video game villian. Great review. I'm going to subscribe. Keep up the good work 👍
Pelvic Gaming you're welcome look forward to more reviews from you. Hope you review earthbound sometime. That was a great rpg from the super Nintendo days
Wow 3 years later and I'm commenting on this... I only have one gripe with something you said. Luca Blight doesn't actually bear the Beast Rune, it took residence in the Highland capitol castle. At best Luca Blight was a servant to the Beast Rune, offering it sacrifices to unleash a hellish demon into the world... JS
2:30 Girl. Me and you need to have the good chat. I agree with you 100%. I hate that shit in KH, and it is celebrated as if it is good writing. Like it explores the human condition. That just isn't how you make "Friends." "WE DID A THING!" Yeah, it's called life. We do many things. But that does not make us friends. Also, I think you should try SMT Nocturne. 1. Neclord or Lucca? 2. Favorite types of music?
My favourite part of this game is the cooking battle sub story, which i didn't discover until the 3rd playthrough. (I played this when it first came out and the internet wasn't like it is today so, in those days i was playing these games blind)
man i got super lucky, i got to play both the first and 2nd one when they were new. had a friend that lent me the games. i was put off by the graphics at first but after an hour in i was just sucked right in. i remember having to scour gamefaqs to try and get all the recruits back then. loved playing thru again and again to find all the secrets. about 10 years ago i bit the bullet and paid 60 bucks for the first and 150 for the second one. never regretted it since.
awesome ! u end up doing the review. you can get quite obvious hints about how to recruit characters once u recruit richmond. but yea suikoden isn't a game u finish perfect the first go. I finished it the first time naturally even the next one or two times before deciding to research how to get all 108. and also the perfect ending. awesome review. One thing and its very hard not to have a few little spoilers in the review. glad you liked it. reminiscence will always touch my heart. seeing the review was touching. seems like I have to finish it again.
I'm already waiting for the Remaster Collection to come out for the Switch next year, then I can finally catch up on Suikoden 2. Everyone always says how good the game is, but I haven't played it yet. I just missed it back then.
I bought this on my PS3 but never got a chance to play it. I keep hearing great things about it, just haven't had a chance to play because life. Great review!
Awesome review as always! Questions: is there a game you feel you missed out on by not playing it while it was a new release? For me it’s Metal Gear Solid. What’s your favourite lipstick brand?
I will almost certainly get Suikoden 2 when it gets remastered for the Switch, I wonder which is the better, Chrono Trigger or Suikoden 2? Sadly, CT isn't available on the Switch (yet). I am right now playing Pillars of Eternity, Chrono Cross and Phantasy Star 4. In many ways, three very different RPGs, but all of them shine bright in videogame-sky.
i wish somebody would test new development at Konami :c we should storm their castle and steal their IP and make more Suikoden and Castlevania games. all in!?
@@gravecactus All hail Kickstarter. We had Bloodstained by the original Castlevania creator. Now we have Eiyuden Chronicle, by the original Suikoden creators!
@@PelvicGaming Maybe. I am also FFVI trash, so. *shrug* :) I'm new to the channel and am so far LOVING the reviews. I want to shake the hand of the reddit post that sent me here. I hope you don't mind if I set up my folding chair and my bowl of popcorn in preparation for future reviewing goodness.
There are a lot of hidden things about Suikoden 2 that you probably wouldn't realize on the first playthrough..
1. Did you know that when Shu joined, the coin we found in the river is not his, but Richmond's? Yeah, Shu cheated us, but Richmond cheated him back.

3. Rowd actually has a blind little sister. He did what he did to earn more money so he can take his little sister to Toran Republic and get treated there by the famous doctor from Suikoden 1, Liukan
And there are actually tons more of these.. like seriously, Suikoden II IS SO FREAKING RICH OF BACKGROUND STORIES, IT'S LIKE A WHOLE NEW COMPLEX WORLD
Murtadhi Mu'tashim I only caught #1. But very interesting. O.o which they made some more noticable...so they'd be appreciated.
Pelvic Gaming yeah, even the Luca Blight's background story is very interesting, like how he ended being the big bad guy
And about the the #3 you can actually talk with Rowd's blind sister when you were in Kyaro Town.. it was sooo sad it made can't hate Rowd, and I actually kinda glad he run away and just gone like that when Highland almost fell
Murtadhi Mu'tashim I really wish they gave more insight to Luca...I get it's a touchy subject but I wanted it clearly stated in the game.
Maaan idgaf. Rows can kiss my ass. He pissed me off one to many times.

That boss battle...damn
When you finally defeat him you feel it like a huge acomplishment and like the entire world of the game is gonna change for it
Lucas Gill you can beat him at lvl 60ish thats the only disaapointing fact. any other rpg games u can suggest?
Still feel kind of bad that he isnt the final boss, if someday they remake this gane I hope they add a stronger version of him as a secreto boss
@@caaltaes732 he shouldn't be the final boss. Empires arent made by one man. This was the mistake the first game made wars do not end because one person or a handful of people fall there is always someone else to pick up the pieces and that's what I've always taken away from that scene.
My story is pretty much the same, add two more years and thats it
Someone loving Suikoden 2? Thats a person I can get along with.
You know whats the best part of Suikoden 2 is? Characters and story
Anáil Mhín agreed.
They need to freakin' make more Suikoden games... It's too epic to be over... I really want to know more about Pesmerga & Yuber, and stuff like that...
David Smith Same!!!
About viki and jeanne too
I never thought hearing someone reviewing your favorite game could be this exciting, especially the positive ones. but I wasn't happy only because of your positive comments, but also you gave new insights to appreciate the game more like I never really aware of that status animation change could be very important. and Luca was really an amazing villain.
3 is actually a good game, but it wasn't as good as 2 and it lost the feel of suikoden for me. many of the lore of suikoden missing, especially the significant of true runes and 108 stars (if you don't realize from the 2 suikoden games, they're needed to controll the True Runes changing from its enraged stage into its mercy state, and help the bearer unleashing the Rune true power). in 3, you only need them as a bonus for a certain character's arc. this degradation of the mighty true runes which for a person who loved suikoden world building more than anything like me hit me really Hard. suikoden 4 is bad because... well, bad. Bad here I mean if you compare the game to other games in the franchise. experience it yourself.
and for the questions
1. who and what is your favorite character and rune in the game?
2. your favorite game in final fantasy franchise or Suikoden II?
and yeah, thanks. you make me interested in Nier Automata and other Games like Xenoblade too. can't wait for another review :)
P.S. if I'm not wrong, the only suikoden game that didn't require you to walk around the castle is Suikoden Woven Web of a Century which only released in Japan... so I'm not sure.
That plus the fast travel did cut out a lot of the braindead part of JRPGs :D
I love that you enjoyed Luca so much, he really is such a great villain in the sense that he makes you HATE him. On the flipside of that, the fact that he's out of the picture halfway through? And that they move on to a conflict more poignant? GENIUS. I know we spoke about it earlier but I really hope you enjoy Suikoden 3!!! (subbed in anticipation ^-^)
My all-time fav together with it's prequel. Great review! Brought on some intense nostalgia.
Thank you:)
E Mag Thanks for watching! :)
my favorite game ever, you can see how badass luca was from the battle, he got shot with arrows a few time but still can manage 3 groups of 6 people, and if you look closely, the way he attack, he use the rune of fire on his own body to make his sword burning on fire , and attack not just one, but 2 or 3 of your teammates at the same freakin time :D
great review, thank you so much for review this amazing game
Yo taking him down was freaking amazing. Such a satisfying battle.
Man! So epic!!!
I still shiver all this year everytime I set up the 3 teams to fight him, and the anticipation winning each turn are the best experiences.
2-Bit Arliez tercyduck
I don't think He's "Badass" by Any Means, But Atleast he Got what he Deserved,I Wish I could Say the Same For Windy.....
Luca Blight is so bad ass - he casts fire on himself to put flames on his own sword and you need 18 people full equipped team to rough him up.
stupord yup

Hey! I'll take a look! Thanka for the invite!
Pelvic Gaming so will you appear in the podcast?
Yep! th-cam.com/video/zU1S52uIPCA/w-d-xo.html
The best jrpg I’ve ever played, great music and storyline
Your reviews are real good, please keep up these retro ones!!! So nice to hear a non biased perspective on the classics, with a pretty and eloquent lady as a bonus.. What can I say besides: More please!
Frane Šustić Oh~ You flatter me~ Thank you very much! Don't worry, the retro views are here to stay!
Tree Frog Characters and Concepts Already did a review. :)
Anyway, loved the reviews!
play, replay, replayed for 4 times. YES SUIkoden 2 by far the best JRPG out there.
Yup! I think that has to do with people dismissing the old and talking about the new and recent stuff. They simply...don't remember. u_u
Luca blight can go to hell lol
I still have yet to find a villain as great as Luca Blight
I think it's because Luca seems kind of one dimensional until you learn his backstory. Which is easy to miss when playing through the game or if you haven't done a wiki search. But I agree he's an incredible villian.
Jakejames Lugo he even has a back story that kinda explains his behavior but doesnt justify! And it isnt a central pillar of his character!!
Please do! Treat yourself! Thanks for watching!!
Seed and culgan are patriot
Awesome review, and Luca Blight is one of the top 5 best villains EVER! An arrow rain and 3 party battles and he still wants more (and kills you in 2-3 duel hits! )?!? THAT's a bad guy!
TWO arrow rains
I knew you’d like this series. I’m really glad another person has entered the hectic fandom lol. Did you like McDohl and Gremio’s inclusion in the game? That was indeed a nice touch. What is a series you have heard of - game or non - that you wanted to try? Would you ever consider RPG Maker titles - like Exit Fate (a Suikoden-like game) - for your Let’s Plays or reviews?
I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THEM. I JUST HATED THE TREK TO GET THEM.
Just hearing that battle music and Necrolord theme brings me the chill
Humam242 Yesssss
Even though Luca is an nonredeemable Villain and he deserves to be ended, but i still feel sad on the story why he hates the Highland :/. Imagine Luca sees his father just cowardly escape and forced to witness his mother getting rape.
Don't agree with Luca's method but at least i understand why he become so maniacal. That what makes a great villain.
Humam242 I think the reasoning why is important but how he shows off his villainy is what gets me. That die pig scene man...
I get you about the reminiscence soundtrack. I even learn how to play it on the the piano :D
It is sad yet compelling
Haha you're the second person to tell me that's my review style. Also I plan on playing all the Suikoden games except the tactics. :)))
The Suikogaiden games get a little into the story of the girl involved, so if you are curious, the walkthroughs of that explain it pretty good.
illustrius masterpiece and its impossible to complete it one playthrough for various reasons
I played Suikoden 2 for two years straight when I was a kid and I'm still playing it from time to time.
I always love it when the main character has a healing ability because it means he's a one-man party if you got grind like mine
Thank you for enjoying Suikoden 2! It really is one of the best RPGs out there. I wish we could get a proper sequel some day.
I'm in love with this game! I hope we get more games like it. A collection would be nice!
"that is luca mfkin blight" haha best quote of the day
oh my god im so glad i found your channel, this is exactly what i was looking for in youtube gaming channels. this video gave me such a nostalgia bomb, hot damn
also i'm living for that lipstick
Mellie Rose Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Hopefully Ill get to Suikoden 3 this year!
Ayeee thanks~ ! ;)))
It's absolutely one of the greats for sure.
Fair review and really complete. Thanks, Ma'am!
Came here from Dark Pixel Gaming, glad to have discovered another great reviewer! *Subscribed*
Thank you so much!! Hope you enjoy!
I LOVE the fact that ur reviewing my FAV jRPG series outside of FF and CT
Thank you lady! Love your stuff!
Now for my two questions:
1.) Video game related - Do you think the PS1 era or PS2 era was more instrumental in bringing JRPGs prominently into the western sphere?
2.) What's your favorite work of fiction, in terms of novels or short stories?
I honestly enjoy your reviews, that's why i can't wait until i hear your thoughts and outlook on Final Fantasy Tactics
This is the 1stSuikoden game I played. It called to me as I walked by the gaming section. I didn't regret my decision to purchase it.
*Spoilers if you haven't played, obviously*
Hurray!
Well he got those little moments that gave some human background to his character, like the relationship with his father and his sister...
I've been looking forward to this video, and it was great. So glad you enjoyed the game.
Glad I dont disappoint!
Never, all your videos are great.
I feel like the world keeps trying to tell me to play Suikoden 2 again, And it’s kind of the best recommendation you could ask for really.
That ruins the game. also the perfect ending is so hard to get naturally you would have to perfectly fluke it
LOVE that you loved it! It will forever be my favorite game and I love how into it you got
ITS SO GOOD!! I AM SO IN LOVE! ♡
Pelvic Gaming makes two of us! Idk if it's underrated, but I def feel it deserves the same fan base as final fantasy :o
All i remember from Suikoden II is Luca Blight, he's a freaking Terminator
Zazie Beetz sure knows her jrpgs.
TheEidolin Damn right!!
I remember getting this on day 1, tried telling ppl about it and they had no idea what I was talking about for years until youtube hit
Awesome review :D Also, I think the us version does not have the track playing when you recruit annalee..
Mr. Bastos Haha. That scene is forever burned into my memory. As always thank you for watching!
I never played but i heard so many good things about it. I bought for the ps3 but i'm waiting to have a lot of time just for play. I think it deserves a lot of attention.
I agree with you about Luca Blight! He has to be one of the most epic villains of all time. Even the battle between the army and him was insane!
Have you heard of the Suikogaiden volumes? I've never played them, as they were never released outside of Japan, but they are both visual novel side stories that occur during Suikoden II. The openings of each game are on TH-cam.
Waiting on that remaster to replay again. I replay it once every few years or so and the timing is perfect
Gregminister is kinda a different continent already? a different kingdom for a different setting. Maybe that's why you can't blink to there. But I agree should have a better way to get there
*Please be sure to leave TWO questions (video game related or not)! One of which I'll be answering in my next video! Thank you for getting me to 6,100!! xoxo*
Pelvic Gaming hey I've notice you've played persona 5, have you heard of shin Megami tensei/SMT Nocturne?
Pelvic Gaming have you ever played any of the grandia series, and what are your thoughts on handheld systems?
Hi there! I'm a fan of your channel and I share your area of interest which is heavily jrpgs. A couple questions I guess: What city do you live in and do they have a good videogame convention/cosplay scene? Also, if you could get into making videogames, would you?
How long till your tales of berseria review? and how does it feel to have the most legit jrpg review channel on the planet?
This is probably the best rpg in the psx era
I never played this until recently when it was 10 dollars on psn. Until then i couldn't find it for anything less than 100 dollars. I didn't like it as much as 3 or 1. 3 is just superior than 1, 2, 4, 5, and tactics. I think the reason i like 1 more is that i got it when it first came out, so it was my first game to have that many characters. (Shining force 1 and 2 had around 30) It meant more when i was young. This one would've too, but i didn't play it till now. I remember getting 1 and the first wild arms at the same time using xmas money. :) Good memories.
Another great review that took me back thanks.. and now for questions
1. How do you feel about your channel now versus when you started
2. Will you show any of your art, since you mentioned you do art
other villains should take note of Luca Blight
Great review. I played Suikoden 2 last year for the first time, and it's now my favorite rpg on the original playstation. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.
So pumped to see people still discover how great this game is.
thekenner Hell ya!
Great video, very well done. I’ve had this on PSN for years and am now debating whether to play this game next or not.
Oh you must!!! Its absolutely that good!!
luca is not the bearer of true beast rune in fact he never have any regular rune,
flaming sword? he just oiled his sword , total badass
Rage Sword Rune
I like to think that hes using the fire rune to burn his sword so he can use stronger attack, he doesnt care if he got burned from the rune as long that he can be stronger, and also he doesnt like to use the rune to damage people because he wont have the satisfaction of slashing some maggots and pigs
So in Suikoden 3 they made the Sword Magic rune
Luca's Die Pig scene is truly iconic!!
TenkaiStar108 I will NEVER forget that scene.
Keep up the good work 👍
ness advantage Thank you so much!! Luca's fight was insane but I love it it really felt like I was in danger yo. Appreciate the support!
JS
Yeah you're more or less right
2:30
Girl. Me and you need to have the good chat. I agree with you 100%.
I hate that shit in KH, and it is celebrated as if it is good writing. Like it explores the human condition. That just isn't how you make "Friends."
"WE DID A THING!"
Yeah, it's called life. We do many things. But that does not make us friends.
Also, I think you should try SMT Nocturne.
1. Neclord or Lucca?
2. Favorite types of music?
My favourite part of this game is the cooking battle sub story, which i didn't discover until the 3rd playthrough. (I played this when it first came out and the internet wasn't like it is today so, in those days i was playing these games blind)
this game is the benchmark for JRPG, nothing come close to this game and i can say it out loud... THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER PRODUCED!
Have you heard about Eiyuden Chronicle?
man i got super lucky, i got to play both the first and 2nd one when they were new. had a friend that lent me the games. i was put off by the graphics at first but after an hour in i was just sucked right in. i remember having to scour gamefaqs to try and get all the recruits back then. loved playing thru again and again to find all the secrets. about 10 years ago i bit the bullet and paid 60 bucks for the first and 150 for the second one. never regretted it since.
awesome ! u end up doing the review. you can get quite obvious hints about how to recruit characters once u recruit richmond. but yea suikoden isn't a game u finish perfect the first go.
One of my favorite J-RPG's . Easely in my top 3 Storyline Wise
ABSOLUTELY. I'm so happy I experienced this gem. My heart was twisted so many different ways!
I have Suikoden II complete in box near mint condition. It is worth about $700.
Awesome review as always!
Questions: is there a game you feel you missed out on by not playing it while it was a new release? For me it’s Metal Gear Solid.
What’s your favourite lipstick brand?
I am so glad i have played this and Suikoden 5, if you want a good story, suikoden is perfect for you
this game blew me away back when it came out been waiting on a remake to play it but think ill need to just replay it as is
I love this game so much I wish it was some type of online game that you can play with friends with but I'm way ahead of myself I know
I will almost certainly get Suikoden 2 when it gets remastered for the Switch, I wonder which is the better, Chrono Trigger or Suikoden 2? Sadly, CT isn't available on the Switch (yet). I am right now playing Pillars of Eternity, Chrono Cross and Phantasy Star 4. In many ways, three very different RPGs, but all of them shine bright in videogame-sky.
Fun fact: Suikoden 1 was just sort of a test development for Suikoden 2
i wish somebody would test new development at Konami :c
we should storm their castle and steal their IP and make more Suikoden and Castlevania games. all in!?
Then why was Suikoden 2 way harder to find? I'm glad it's available digitally now. $150 was not cool.
@@gravecactus All hail Kickstarter. We had Bloodstained by the original Castlevania creator. Now we have Eiyuden Chronicle, by the original Suikoden creators!
@@PomuLeafEveryday that is the truth.
however, if only we had new games from Konami whichi is a company that doesn't create games
one of my all-time favorite games, I am so glad to see your excitement for it.
Oh it's one of my favorites too! Gosh this game was an emotional roller coaster.
There's a similarity in dynamics between Jowy / Riou / Nanami & Delita / Ramza / Alma from FF Tactics.
Luca blight was not a bearer of the beast rune. Beast rune is too large for someone to hold, just like sun rune.
Mitha Chaann I get it. It more so aligned with Luca being past down in the Blight home for ages. Etc.
Anyway, any chances to try suikoden 5?
Mitha Chaann I plan on playing 3-5! Sadly 5 isnt on psn. ); Hopefully by the time I get there it will be available!
Ah well :D
I'll take a peek at your channel again once you did :D
Ho boy, that Luca scene. What a guy! You've convinced me to try to find a way to play these games... eventually.
You must! Suikoden 1 is good...Suikoden 2 mind blowing!!
I loved the heck out of Kefka as a villain, but you're 100000% right. Luca Blight takes Kefka and kicks him into the dirt. :D
Ah another cultured person. ♡
@@PelvicGaming Maybe. I am also FFVI trash, so. *shrug* :)
I'm new to the channel and am so far LOVING the reviews. I want to shake the hand of the reddit post that sent me here. I hope you don't mind if I set up my folding chair and my bowl of popcorn in preparation for future reviewing goodness.
Reddit thread? Link?
And please do! I hope you enjoy my work! Thank you! ^.^
I'm in the same boat! I came here from your recent vid in DYKG, and absolutely loving your content! Luca Blight is super underrated as a villain.
