I think one of the greatest things about Evil Morty's characterization, is that he eventually became guilty of every crime he accused Rick of, and then brushes it off as "none of this matters because it was created by Rick", which is a pretty Rick thing to say. It makes me wonder if Rick came to this same conclusion about this reality (since we saw in the finale that his life was also ruined by Ricks), but instead chose to try and find personal identity in his family (which I think is the reason he hasn't abandoned this version of his family for his own gain--he chose them, and that choice is what binds him).

"Struggling with identity" is just another way of saying "struggling with trust." When people say they "trust" something/someone, most times what they're actually saying is they trust their OWN ability to predict what that something/someone will do. Having real capital-T Trust in another entity is fundamentally irrational, a leap of faith, but it's what's necessary to create one's own identity. Relying entirely on one's own personal logic to get through life makes everything you "trust" contingent, which then makes your identity contingent, which calls into question the very existence of your identity. You have to draw a line in the sand, so to speak, else risk be a Morty in this scenario.

Because they want to trust that their character won't be betrayed, killed, etc. So deciding on a character becomes contingent on their ability to analyze where the play is going - which is maddening because there's no concrete way to know what's next and the longer you wait, the more depressed you become because your life doesn't have stakes. One is kind of sad because it's the people who feel they had no choice in the matter - like someone who grew up in a fucked household or neighborhood, so they became something hard/evil in order to survive. The other way brings the most happiness. Basically, someone decides, "I don't care what happens to me. All I know is this play needs this type of person and I'm going to be the one to do it." Whether or not it was the right choice to adopt that character is irrelevant - that person goes through life feeling like they've done the world a service just by being themselves.

Well our Morty is actually evil, I don't think the default Morty is evil though because Morty started off as a perfectly innocent, decent, morally good person.
Morty's story mirrors how most teenager's stories are. In their quest to find identity, they often do so in an unhealthy way. They befriend the wrong type of people and get into the wrong type of situations. But Morty hasn't lived a healthy life, he has parents who neglect him, a sister who abuses him, and a grandfather who both abuses and badly influences him. While most teenagers struggle with making mistakes due to their own immaturity, Morty has his own immaturity plus a difficult family life since he started off seemingly well-adjusted and innocent before turning more rebellious as the seasons progress. In the meantime, I do hope to see Morty get an actual coming of age story where he does learn that although his family have their issues, they do very much care about him and that he should listen and appreciate their values more. I do find this very cliched which is why I do not like most teen films or Morty himself but I do think Morty as well as most teenagers do have a chance to grow into a better person. Morty often times disregards people to his own disadvantage and while this may have been acceptable (albeit often still annoying) in early seasons, it's definitely starting to get old now and I do hope to see him work on his issues with people and his own rebellion more so that he can find healthier ways to establish his identity. I think this is partly why I didn't care for season 5. It just seemed to be too soapy and now seeing this video, it does make me hate it more for having more grounded and cliched themes, where Morty is finding his identity but in irredeemable and sociopathic ways. Maybe if they do decide to age Morty to practically the young adult he should currently be at, he probably would have a slightly more established identity and be less often to make mistakes. The amount of people that watched death note as an edgy teenager and fell in love with a fascist way of thinking is honestly tragic. Rewatching as an adult with an understanding of history and knowledge of some of the propaganda the state education i received fed me, i could see the cautionary framing of the tale, but it all went over some of my friends heads to this day.
I've been watching gleefully all along, but I *really* enjoy these rick and Morty philosophical analyses. I'm also intensely curious is the writers of rick and morty consider these philosophical implications this deeply as they are writing, or if the philosophy discusses is more of an emergent phenomenon of how the writers are choosing to develop their plots.
I personally didn’t find this recent season as controversial or bad as the media around was. I always thought of rick and morty as a show thats more than a sitcom, a show that cares about its story and will give you plot to focus on, for me it doesn’t always have to be about the jokes, i love that too, but a good story will always equate to something i always enjoy more long term🤝. Overall 10/10 show, couldn’t ask for anything more then for the show to KEEP GOING😭👍🏾.

i have to disagree with the assesment that identity is formed from finding an idea to live or die for. every story you every hear in fiction or off deathbeds on this esposes how being tied to one ideal is a misstake as everybody eventually learns the hard way that you cant completely decribe you in a label. hell does your name completely decribe you? of course not. i would suggest instead that indentity is the natural result of not being born with a magic guide to you and having to develope a mechanism to work that out. the gluing yourself to an identity thing is a pitfall on the way to actually getting the hang of it as you need a reference frame of how to relate to things in order to asses how you feel on a subject. the trick is actually being honest with your reactions and internal stimuli thus developing through developemental need and trial and error (or as they may better be known evokutionary pressure and selection) naturally occuring concious self awareness purely by chance (untill its understood then you get to do it on purpose). tldr identity is you probing what you are like and taking the long way about being honest about it.
While i really like this episode and i dont think they did anything wrong with it i kinda wanted to see what would happen if they took it to the logical extreme similar to Fart. I feel like you glossed over the seriousness of the cause. There's an environmental crisis going on right now that is also leading to a lot of death and destruction. I had to evacuate my home last year due to fires. When towing the majority to rule results in long term problems for everyone, it becomes a pretty desperate situation. Action taken by any means necessary is a lot harder to judge as morally wrong.

i have to disagree with the assesment that identity is formed from finding an idea to live or die for. every story you every hear in fiction or off deathbeds on this esposes how being tied to one ideal is a misstake as everybody eventually learns the hard way that you cant completely decribe you in a label. hell does your name completely decribe you? of course not. i would suggest instead that indentity is the natural result of not being born with a magic guide to you and having to develope a mechanism to work that out. the gluing yourself to an identity thing is a pitfall on the way to actually getting the hang of it as you need a reference frame of how to relate to things in order to asses how you feel on a subject. the trick is actually being honest with your reactions and internal stimuli thus developing through developemental need and trial and error (or as they may better be known evokutionary pressure and selection) naturally occuring concious self awareness purely by chance (untill its understood then you get to do it on purpose).
tldr identity is you probing what you are like and taking the long way about being honest about it.
While i really like this episode and i dont think they did anything wrong with it i kinda wanted to see what would happen if they took it to the logical extreme similar to Fart. Humans are by far the most abusive life form on earth. random stat "humans caused at least 680 vertebrate species to extinction. would it not make sense that after she loses connection with morty she goes on a human genocide?

I feel like you glossed over the seriousness of the cause. There's an environmental crisis going on right now that is also leading to a lot of death and destruction. I had to evacuate my home last year due to fires.
When towing the majority to rule results in long term problems for everyone, it becomes a pretty desperate situation. Action taken by any means necessary is a lot harder to judge as morally wrong.
