    What's you favorite Vita game? Why? Least favorite? Most middle-of-the-road Vita game? How about a Vita game you'd give 8.32 out of 10 to? Why not 8.31 or 8.33?

      I adore my Vita, though I haven't played it in some time (working from home means I can play set-top consoles or PC for most all my gaming wants now.) I do believe, though, that my absolute favorite Vita EXCLUSIVE was, indeed, its release of Hot Shots Golf, by far the game that saw the most play time on my console.
      That said, I also loved the Vita as a PSP replacement for digital titles: the larger screen was really nice for a lot of games, and though I don't like the stick on the Vita as well as the PSP, it was certainly functional for any game on the platform. The PS Vita is where I finally beat Ys Chronicles and played the heck out of FFIII.

      No love for NFS Most Wanted 2012? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's my favorite Vita game and it's considered the best racing game on the Vita by many. Personally, I think the game could have done better with some improvements but it's still very playable and enjoyable, enough to make it worth it to play it on the go.

      You can blame all the people that hacked the PSP for the vitas memory cards. And ultimately they are to blame for Sony vita failing.

    • @VermillionR3D

      Vermillion and in turn made it pointless for a game developer to make games for the system. Why spend your time making a game that no one is going to buy and just pirate instead?

    • @RichardLarge88
      @RichardLarge88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@Reactivate100 It's inevitable that people will try to hack a system and often it can get more value out of the hardware than the manufacturer intended - even without piracy. The hacking scene on the original Xbox was fantastic and allowed the system to play various emulators, but also encouraged innovation with projects like XBMC - that's still going strong today and is the basis for software like Plex. The PSP was a desirable system to hack because it was portable.
      I don't think consumers can be blamed for wanting to hack their systems, but obviously the piracy side of it - an unfortunate byproduct of allowing users to run unsigned code - is incredibly harmful. Regardless, Sony's decision to force proprietary memory was stupid and ultimately led to the demise of the system. The main problem with it wasn't that it was proprietary, but that it was *incredibly* expensive for the whole lifetime of the Vita. I had a Vita but barely used it in the end because I didn't want to fork out £100 for a memory card just so that I could spend more money on digital games.
      So no, don't blame the consumers, blame Sony for making a really stupid business decision.

    Just gonna mention Freedom Wars since nobody ever does. It's a Monster Hunter-style game where you play someone in the orwellian, post apocalyptic future of 102014, with a million year prison sentence to your panopticon, and the only way to reduce it is to grab some weapons, head out and fight giant robots sent out by other panopticons to steal your panopticon's people. The game has a bunch of unique bits to it:
    1: The Thorn, a grappling hook-esque tool that you can use to grab onto walls, opposing forces and the giant robots.
    2: A lot of the robots can be cut apart (assuming you're using a light melee weapon or have the one specific support item that allows you to do it) and it'll grant you extra resources.
    3: Alongside your human/NPC partners, you also have a android/gynoid partner known as an Accessory, which you can equip and customise too. All players have one, and so do all the NPCs, and since you can have a team of 4 humans, that means that when you have a full squad, it's more like having 8 fighters on the field at once.
    Seriously fun game, I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the Vita, as it's only about $15 too for a really high quality game.

    • @haaxxx9
      @haaxxx9 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember playing Freedom Wars on my PS Vita Slim, I got to Level 6 of that game and dropped it cause some mechanics caught up to me and the difficulty spiked up to near impossible for me...
      Seriously making new weapons have a timer on em... I saw one of my assault rifle took about 30 minuets to make and I was shocked that I have to wait for so long just to obtain em, yes I did replay missions while the timer was ticking down but didn't stop the fact that I STILL had to wait to obtain my new weapons. FUN. Speaking of FUN, the difficulty spike in Level 6 ultimately made me drop the game for good. I don't know why but every few hits of my character heath dwindles till death even if I have the upgraded weapons for that level it gotten so bad that I tried almost everything in-game to pass it but to avail. I gave up and just play God Eater: Resurrection which is funny cause that is my most played Vita game clocking in over 300+ hours.
      Least the Music in Freedom Wars is nice, "Zimuse" and "Creeper" comes in mind so if you want to get mad at me so be it, but we can agree on at least one thing!

      @@haaxxx9 the difficulty definitely does spike due to confusion with the mechanics and scale of the fights fluctuating. I had to reset mentally myself for a day or so. From my experience, the curve never really flattens due to not being able to get OP at all in the initial playthough. But it is beatable- albiet barely. The last boss is insane, and the kind you don't feel you could beat again once you do. I like that kind of difficulty, but it annoyed me that many optional missions were still way beyond beatable even after I finished the game.

    I wanted to love the Vita, but the memory card legit killed it for me. Things only got worse when games I was interested in started appearing on other platforms.
    I loved the system's build quality, the sticks were pretty okay, I liked the buttons. The OS was ...ugly.
    But Ys Memory of Celceta & 8 are great, play that on anything you can. Super good games.
    The memory cards aghhh... I had a 8GB and got a decent deal on it but it was rapidly filling with basic stuff. I was mostly playing PS1 games & they were chunky for the device. Taking up 1GB or more per game I had.
    Then companies started cheaping out and offloading optional languages to downloads so, I tapped out.
    Great system ruined by Sony's incompetence. PSP worked out far better for me. Still use it to this day and even have music still loaded onto it. Got an adapter for a microSD card and it's, VASTLY cheaper to play PS1 games on it.

      While it really didn't sell that much even in Japan, it was enough for some companies in that country to keep supppoting it anyway since in the mid 2010 many were making low or mid budget multiplaatform games and the Vita was perfect as the lead platform for many of those projects or at least it was easy to port them to it, and also it was easy for some small western indie devs to port their games to it even if they eneded getting just okay sales.
      It was probably when the Switch came out and after more japanese developers started using more modern tech for their games that they stopped supporing the Vita.

      It looked pretty decent, although his comments on the delayed controls made me lose interest in it. I absolutely HATE action games with delayed controls (like Final Fantasy XV), an action game needs to be responsive in order to be enjoyable.

    Awesome video. I always love when people give the Vita the proper respect it deserves, even though Sony didn't give it that respect.
    I understand wanting to future proof the video for when the Sony ultimately closes the Vita's digital store. But the Gundam game and Tales of Hearts R are easily available on the PS Store on Vita. Saying they are rare games is a little misleading as they are available digitally.

    I just finished YS 9 yesterday... As Ys series maniac YS 9 is decent and good Ys game to play. But I am Absolutely Sure Ys 8 is the best in entire series like Resident evil 4 to me. in order to support developer.. I purchased YS 8, vita,switch,steam,PS4 versions.

      I was very pleasantly surprised with Ys VIII. I wasn't expecting much of it from the character designs, but the gameplay, world design, and music were all outstanding. Ys IV: Dawn of Ys is still my favorite in the series, but Ys VIII might just be my 2nd!

      Ys VIII is a wondeful game. Maybe the best all rounded episode of the whole saga. But I still think Ys Seven is slightly superior with a better story and some very good plot twist.

    • @Jordan3DS
      @Jordan3DS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adolchristin9837 It's funny, because Ys VIII kind of copied EVERYTHING from Seven, down to the plot and the way that the final bosses work.

    Killzone Mercenary is a true powerhouse in demonstrating what the Vita could do. They should've either delayed Uncharted or Resistance to give those games more time to polish up and had KZM as a launch title and included atleast the 4gb memory card, would've sent this thing into the stratosphere

    To be fair to Tales of Hearts R, by the time it came out, Best Buy, Walmart and Target had long dropped the Vita from their shelves, so GameStop was basically the only place to buy Vita games full-stop. It's not a Final Fight Guy being exclusive to Blockbuster situation.

    Once hacked this thing is a awesome handheld. I have a 128gb card acting as internal storage with direct access to download the entire Vita library. Homebrew scene is still alive and is also really awesome. Oh and you forget that list of incompatible PSTV games. Hacks enable most games now plus the same hacks are available for the PSTV.

    The best model of the PS Vita is the slimmer model because there is a grip add-on for the slimmer Vita which prevents you from touching the rear touchpad.

    A few points:
    1) Outside of certain relatively short plot-centric sections, Shingu Meteorite/Kor Meteor of Tales of Hearts R is generally really hot-blooded and upbeat, IIRC.
    2) Regarding Lost Dimension, don't forget that one of the main selling points is that several of your teammates are actually moles for the final boss, and at the end of every floor that you travel up the tower that the game takes place in, you enter a Danganronpa-ish court where you have to decide which of your party members is the traitor this floor. Or rather, you decide which of your party members gets executed, regardless of whether they are guilty or not. And the traitors change each game, so you may end up executing your closest friends from one playthrough in another playthrough.
    3) Soul Sacrifice Delta is a significant improvement over vanilla Soul Sacrifice, with notably updated graphics, all the DLC from the original game, a ton of new monsters, locations, spells, and missions, and an entirely new faction (the Grimm, which allows you to leave your enemies' ends to Fate in addition to Saving and Sacrificing them) that is very important to the canon story, in addition to having a bunch of great quests attached to it. Also, the book belongs to an old ally of the main villain, not the main villain himself, which is an important distinction since the story and lore had some of the best writing, music, and aesthetics (basically Dark Souls/Berserk meets Fractured Fairy Tales) of this generation, with very unique and enthralling gameplay which is a weird thing to say about a Vita-exclusive arena hunting game made in partnership with the Mighty No. 9 people.
