    • @noop9k
      @noop9k 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All “ports” by that dev were essentially remade in their own engine with reduced and changed geometry detail.
      Of course it has these *unique* lighting effect because it is a totally different engine that can’t support *the original* lighting effects.
      You can just as well praise Quake 2 for the Playstation.

    • @ravagingwolverine
      @ravagingwolverine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It was in the previous episode on this topic back in November 2019. The Game Sack official site now has a search feature that's really helpful in finding out if they've covered games or when you know they did cover a game but can't remember when or under what topic.

    • @rars0n
      @rars0n 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@noop9k Of course it was remade to suit the hardware, that's what a good dev does when porting the game. That doesn't mean the game was bad or even inferior to other ports of the game. Nor does it mean it wasn't a great use of the hardware. And your use of quotes makes me think that you don't understand how ports worked back when hardware was vastly different.
      Yes, it has its flaws, but IMO the Saturn port of Quake was quite awesome. Is it better than the PC game? Nah, no way, but an extremely impressive port nonetheless. Also, I'll take Saturn's Powerslave over the PSX version. Lobotomy deserves massive credit for those games.

      Thanks for pointing this out, I had no idea. I'm a typical pleb who just sorts through a TH-cam channel to try to find which video covered what, so this is a great benefit to have.
      Edit: gosh darn I wish TH-cam's formatting wouldn't require extensive hoops to jump through to sort paragraphs out properly.

      @heavysystemsinc. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend checking out Top Gear Rally on GBA also. It runs pretty smooth and I'm not sure, but I suspect it's doing some 3D rendering 'offline' on the car model, which is why it's a little sprite-ish in animation, but it's always responding exactly to what is happening to the car and I feel like I never see quite the exact same frame twice in a row...

    "not the best idea for a fighting game to have a spirit energy bar for powers"
    That is an extremely debatable point as in street fighter 2 it was common to see players spamming hadokens or shoryukens and the like. This definitely forced players to use powers more carefully and plan their fights with more strategy. I'm sure that SNK's developers did this to differentiate themselves from street fighter and the other popular fighting games of the time.

    I grew up playing Super Off Road The Baja with my Uncle, but he always lost the races because he couldn't resist trying to run over as many pedestrians and tractor guys as possible.

    I would have to say, Pokemon Black/White. The cutscenes, the fact that every Pokemon is animated, and with personality. Honestly, to this date I think it's the peak for the franchise, graphics and story wise.

    I remember playing Busy Town on Sega Channel with my family. Still to this day my mom and I quote the line "My hands are clean!" after we wash them. Then start laughing about how we still remember that, but can't remember something we did two days. Memory is a weird thing.

    Ninja Spirit is definitely a successor to Legend of the Kage on NES. I didn't know they made one on SNES.

    Oh hell I most definitely remember Virtua Fighter in the arcade. I remember being blown away by it and would play it every chance I got. I remember one arcade had a HUGE screened one, like 100"+. It was the only time I ever saw a Virtua Fighter arcade machine with such a big screen.

    Here's a cool story for you, since you showed Strider 2 as an example for great voice samples: I rented this game once and I was blown away not only by the quality but also the number of samples. Every cut scene is spoken! But then, a few years later, rented the same cartridge and played on a different console and the voices were horrible! I couldn't understand how could that be! It was the same damm cartridge!!! Only years later I found out that there are several revisions of the Genesis sound hardware. That was when it occurred to me: I bought a Strider 2 copy and started using it to hunt down the "best" sound revision for my personal Genesis. This was much earlier in the existence of the internet so I didn't know you could do the same with the serial number, but there you have it: Strider 2 works as a sound standard for locating good sounding Genesis consoles.

    Fatal Fury for the Neo Geo AES.
    To get vocals on a stage soundtrack (Richard Meyer stage) on a cartridge is phenomenal.
