I miss these kinds of classes. We had both family studies and design and technology in middle school that were mandatory. I remember in design and technology we did woodworking all 3 years, electricity, plumbing, metal work which both my sister and I made cookie sheets in the early mid 90s which my mum still has incredibly stained and etched from decades of cookies. Famimy studies we learned basic sewing, cooking, baking, parenting and nutrition. High school we had both just for grade 9 but family studies was then called parenting and was mostly book work from what I remember. Now I have 1 son who is graduating high school this spring and they've brought back a couple food courses thankfully. My 9th grader knows how to cook basic meals and grill under supervision, he just doesn't have enough confidence in himself yet. The younger kids are in grade 7 and totally a disaster in the kitchen on a good day 😂

Funny story here: I got out all the ingredients to make the hot pockets. I had just stocked the cupboards and fridge and I was ready to go! Made the filling, instead of onion powder and garlic powder I use onion and garlic. Got the chicken cooked and dropped in the cream cheese and dashed to the garden for some chives. Everything was ready to go-until-I went to the fridge and discovered I bought cinnamon rolls instead of crescent rolls. I pondered for a moment and thought about pasta that you had mentioned and then it hit me, I had puff pastry in the freezer. Can I tell you that this went from a disaster to magnificent meal!! Brushed the tops with egg wash and the parm cheese! My family thinks I am a genius, hhahaha!!! Thanks for sharing Becky!

I do something similar with lemon, ginger in honey. Lasts a long time in the fridge. Use the entire lemon; seeds pith and all. All the quercetin is in the pith and seed. So I chop the entire lemon, chop a bunch of ginger, put in jar and cover with honey. Leave out on counter for two to three days then keep in the fridge. The honey thins out with the juices. Just take a table spoon full when dealing with cough, sore throat or the threat of exposure from someone else. So good!

Hi! I was so glad to see you making these shots! I make a version of this as well. I mix fresh turmeric, ginger, pineapple, mandarin orange, and a little carrot. I also add a little fresh cracked pepper to activate the turmeric. I use a juicer, but definitely you can use a blender and nut bag. This concoction is SO delicious, and amazingly good for your body.
I do not peel my ginger or turmeric. I do take all of the pulp I get from juicing and freeze it. I then add the frozen pulp to smoothies for a nice kick of flavor and nutrition! ❤

Last few years i have had daily organic ginger, lemon and tumeric shots. I juice the organic ginger and lemon, it is not easy to get fresh organic tumeric where i am so i buy either a high quality turmeric capsule (decanted into the shot) or liquid drops - these both come with the added pepper (plus a lot more nutrients (volume wise), I also add cayenne pepper & organic Ceylon cinnamon for additional health benefits. I dont add any extra water, so i store the mini jam jars (45ML). Spicy!

So then You'd get powdered ginger and turmeric and freeze dried lemon powder to make Lemondade with! (Just add water and sugar 😋)

I love when Josh turns up for the taste tests! Since you have the tumeric in the big jars, it would be easy to pour it in the blender again and add the honey and black pepper to make it more pleasant to drink 😊

Hey Becky, it just doesn’t matter if you have or haven’t peeled the ginger. It does not affect the taste, if you are making a powder after freeze drying it. If not making it into a powder, it will give a bit of a texture. I am from India and I cook with ginger every single day. I don’t peel my ginger either.
Thanks for your videos, they really are amazing 😊😊

So good for thought (pun intended) when using pepper you want fresh cracked and you want to do Crack it just before using. Pepper have great health benefits but loses potency pretty fast. So as we buy pre ground pepper it's just flavoring no health benefits because the go the way of the dodo.
And using homemade crescent dough is amazing! I made "hotpockets" I don't think I'll ever go back. 😅
Love the videos tank you for giving me all sorts of ideas. I make your baked oatmeal and love the different ways I can flavor it!

I never peel my ginger root when I use it. I scrub it real well and either chop it or grate it. The skin is edible and doesn't seem to interfere with the taste.

Cornflakes! Was it crushed cornflakes? We used to make these chicken pockets with just chicken, parsley, chives, cream cheese and s&p. They were brushed (or dipped) in melted butter and covered in cornflake crumbs. Perhaps that’s what you might be trying to remember. ? Also, when I was first married and much poorer, I would make them with my own roll dough recipe (rolled out thin) and into small pockets and served with chicken soup/gravy on top. Yummm.

Becky, turn your microplane zester upside down, so you have the back of it facing up. Then drag the zester over the lemon. It is faster and more efficient. You can see all the zest and where you have already been on the lemon. Just tap the zester on a board to release the zest and to zest some more.

My high school had a home ec course for boys called Bachelor Living. It comprised budgeting, how to do laundry, some cleaning, marketing, cooking, ironing, hand sewing, and following recipes for baking and cooking . It became one of the most popular senior classes for guys. The girls were also offered a shop class, but the teacher didn’t make the class as interesting as the guys “Bachelor” course

I’ve made something similar to your crescent chicken. A girlfriend’s mother’s recipe they called chicken squares. Has poultry seasoning and the bundles only use 2 of the triangles. I use a little less chicken and add frozen peas or blanched broccoli. It’s a family favorite. 🙂

I had gotten super sick this season I took some horseradish, turmeric, ginger, garlic, onion, jalapeño, lemon, orange, cayenne pepper, black pepper, washed everything and pureed it peels and all into a paste and added raw honey! I was only sick for 3 day's! I had lung surgery year's ago, had I not made that I would have had to go to the hospital. It's basically the ingredients to fire cider without the vinegar, but I was taking little shots of that to. Never made either before, but I'm going to try to keep it as a staple in my house as soon as i can get some more horseradish root!! I still have a full small Mason jar in the fridge but I haven't touched it because I'm not sure how long it keeps with honey. 🤷🏼‍♀️ there's not exactly a recipe for the paste lol
