I really like your videos because you grow and cook fantastic healthy food without trying to go back in time. A lot of TH-camrs in this sort of space seem to want to live in the 1800s and I just don’t understand it. Dehydrators and blenders and heat sealers are fantastic! I love your use of high tech to make simple food
First video i've watched from this channel. Really interesting. I love it when people admit they could have done something better or weren't exactly happy with the outcome and how they might do it better next time. So much more realistic than someone pretending to say "OMG, this is the best thing ever!!!" just for some views. One is helpful, the other is not.
I'd love to know mote about how you organize your homeschool. Your garden is always improving and becoming more efficient and i imagine your organization and methods for schooling multiple children is also pleasant and enriching and i would benefit greatly from your experience :)
I love your videos so much and honestly I can't tell you the number of times I ask a question in my head and you immediately answer it in your explanations. You put out very thoughtful and educational content. Well done!!
I always love it when you show how you use your harvests. Although my stash of preserved items is nowhere near what you have, it gives me great satisfaction to have these items on hand both for my husband and myself and to share with our loved ones. I’ve noticed that our flavor preferences are very similar to those of your family. I recently pressure canned a few new recipes and wanted to let you know that “Pork and Black Beans,” from Diane Devereaux’s book, p. 70, and “”Aztec Chicken Soup” from The All New Ball Book of Canning and Preserving, p. 280 are delicious! I always love seeing your kids snacking on produce as they harvest it. Talk about nutritious snacks!
Your expertise in preserving food through traditional methods highlights your passion for maintaining the quality and flavor of seasonal produce. Your work not only nourishes the body but also inspires others to embrace homegrown and homemade practices for a healthier, more mindful lifestyle. And I am Floating Village Life
It's always a 👍 day when we get to see what's going on on your farm/homestead ❤ Those lettuce wraps looks amazing 🤤😋 Thank you all so much for sharing your beautiful life with us
Thank you for showing how you use your vacuum sealer. I just got mine and hadn't yet read the book or used it. Watching you allowed me to try it out without worry. I was wondering where the jar sealer tube went, glad you showed that.
Your videos are great! I think I watched every one of them, I like to freeze my procure , but being in Florida and with more hurricanes each year, there is always a risk for the electricity to be out for hours or days. I need to do more Canning in the house.
Another alternative to have salad greens all year round is to set up an indoor hydroponic system. It’s so hot here and lettuces are struggling to grow outside, I just grow them indoor. Fresh greens everyday ❤
Always such a joy watching your videos. Thanks for the wok recommendation. I did not know anything about carbon steel, so I appreciate the information. Sending you and your family love ❤
❣️❣️❣️Don't throw away the small ball/seeds at the top of the garlic shoots. “Pickle” these into jars with sweet and sour marinade like you would for savory little cucumbers. This is a delicacy here in Austria-Europe 😋👍🏻😘❤️
I think you will find that the shelling peas and even carrots do better in the fall than in the spring. I think our springs are either too cool of too hot, where as our fall seem to be more temperature stable and it's easier to deal with a frost than with it being too hot. I'm in zone 7 and grow in both spring and fall, but seem to get better crops in the fall.
I add a paper towel at the top of and extra long bag if I doing freezer bags on something that might have liquid. Or Chelsea on Little Mountain Ranch just used the For Jars sealer which drew out the liquid into a compartment. Seemed like it worked for her! Cool if it does.
Hi, I’m new. 👋🏻 =) If your ginger has some healthy leaves you can use them like a green herb when you don’t have ginger root available. You can also freeze dry them for tea. =)
Your videos are my favorite! Thank you for sharing them. I would like to know what kind of stove you have and why you chose it? Also what kind of vacuum sealer you were using? Thanks so much! Also wondering how you preserve garlic? I have a bunch to preserve this year.
It’s very difficult for me to have a good spring harvest of shelling peas because it gets hot so quick where I am. Sometimes I just let them dry up, save the seed, and plant those in the fall. I can always get a fantastic fall crop.
When you dry your garlic scapes and make powder do you use this as just a normal garlic powder in recipes? Also what camera do you use to film? The quality is awesome. Love watching your videos. You are a super mom! I pray one day I will be able to grow most of my families food. 🤍
A beautiful harvest Becky, thank you for sharing. I’m about to harvest garlic for the first time. I have seen videos where people will talk about the scapes but I found myself recently wondering what part do I use? When do I pick them? Thanks for sharing some helpful info! You’re a huge inspiration when it comes to preserving the harvest, thank you.
Scapes start to grow straight up. As they grow in length they curl into a loop. After that they start to straighten. Pick the scape any time before they start to straighten, just above the topmost leaf junction. They just snap off with little effort. If you leave the scape on, the bulb size is compromised. It is better to take the scape off than to try to wait for the perfect moment. In my recent harvest there were a few plants that I had missed the scape. Those bulbs were half the size of the rest. I hope this helps.
Do you know where you got the sun hat you were wearing around 15 minutes into the video. My daughter and I have been looking for ones just like yours. The brim size is perfect. :)
I made a zucchini version of your cucumber kim chi, and it was quite good. I have such a problem getting the salt right in my ferments though. Is there any way to make them less salty after they are made if they taste too salty?
I have a lot harder time getting the regular mouth sealers to work than the wide mouth. I actually ordered another one thinking mine was defective...nope. I'll try the two-lid trick....
I have always enjoyed watching this channel, but if we are now going to be forced to endure a sales pitch in the videos, just so they can get something for free, then I will add this to the list of channels no longer subscribed to!!
Nothing wrong with tastefully promoting a product you believe in. And you can always skip that portion. Not much different than talking to a friend and them sharing their recommendations for something related to your conversation. Typically channels who have ads like that also have promo codes you can use. So if you were interested you could save a little $ on the product. Just got to remember what you’re watching and why. No need to be so negative about it. But in the end you’re free to watch and subscribe to what you want. Not gonna bother anybody
Yes You Tube is a business. Unless the vloggers get advertising revenue they don’t make a living from it. A lot of people don’t realise this. It’s very expensive for all the equipment needed and takes a lot of time out of a persons day to film and edit the vlogs. Think of it as their own TV channel. We are all getting it for free, so watching a few add won’t harm us and adds to the vloggers revenue.
I really enjoy seeing the garden abundance and preservation methods. That content is very inspirational. But with all advertising you're doing for sponsored products, I can't help but feel that I'm being spoon-fed cheap products, and it makes the video feel slimy. On a previous video, you used a prebiotic in your garden, and you said you've been using it for years. Why haven't you been talking about it then? Why was this the first time we were told? What if that was the secret to helping someone produce food in a self-sufficient way? If you intend to help educate and inspire your audience, why isn't that what's happening? I can't wait to see the next sponsored product you swear you've been using for years but didn't tell us about.
th-cam.com/video/C_bZa3z5ewg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2EyXhKAwrz27yK4C here is a video in fall of 2022. I’m using ultra and talk about it at the 13 minute mark. I only accept sponsorships for things I use and like. Ads also support this channel. Most people pay for a subscription to be entertained or educated because there are costs involved. Since this entertainment is free for you, I take sponsorships and put in ads so I can be paid and recoup costs for my time and business expenses. Yes, this is a job. I don’t expect people to do things for me for free, providing entertainment or education as a job in TH-cam shouldn’t be any different. You are welcome to skip ads or just stop watching all together if you choose.
It’s not just homesteaders who use this term this way. It can refer to both things. Just depends on the context. You could’ve left that last part out of your comment and been just as honest and accurate but a lot less condescending and rude about it.

So helpful! Thank you do much for the link to the carbon steel wok also. I love using carbon steel.

I would totally buy a garden cookbook if you put one together!
Bulgolgi and bibimbap are favorites at our house as well after my husband was stationed there. Both are great dishes for using alot of garden produce.

Waiting always for your preserving and harvesting series...❤
I love that you show us what you do with your beautiful produce. ❤

I’m watching other u tubers also but your garden is the most neat and organized which brings joy to my ocd

Wow...your hubby has got some mad skills with that knife! Nice job Cam!
I teach high school culinary. All of the cooking stations in my classroom are set with Made In cookware. The woks are the best!!

All so Lovely! Your food always looks so good, love seeing the family and Riggs is just getting so big. So Happy for the Family~~💚💛💙💖

I can hear you saw like Crocodile Dundee: "That's not a bowl...THIS is a BOWL!"
This is awesome. Great people doing great things👌👌

I roll the top of my vacuum seal bags down to the outside before I put the food in. This saves a huge mess around the top of the bag.
Thank you- what a great idea!
Love that idea!

Put food grade silica packets in the jars also for absorbing moisture
Love your videos! Always anticipating the next one ❤
You can freeze ginger to always have some on hand.
Always waiting for your video guys❤❤❤
Me too. 😉
Nice save with the vacuum lids on the jars Becky.
I would recommend putting a wet cloth under the chopping board to prevent it from moving
Good tip 👍🏼👍🏼

That was fun! I am curios how the Egyptian onion taste? Bummed out about your beautiful purple Beauregard peas! Riggs is getting so big!
Im glad your children loved it so it doesn't go to waist. Why not continue making it for them even though you don't find it appealing.
🇦🇺You could always put up shade cloth over plants that are stressed by the heat.

@@beentheredonethat6584 Thank you, I appreciate the info. I am happy to have some good info to work with next year!
Have you ever fermented cauliflower? It’s soooo darn good. ❤
Thank you for this video! I'm ready to harvest. Would you link that lovely huge stainless bowl you use? I need one!
I'm going to try the 2 lid trick! Our wide mouth seals almost every time but the regular mouth often take several tries. 😅
Do you know where you got the sun hat you were wearing around 15 minutes into the video. My daughter and I have been looking for ones just like yours. The brim size is perfect. :)
Felicidades hermosa familia 😘 mil bendiciones
I ❤❤❤ your harvest apron. Where did you get it from please?
Wash your rice 3x before use to remove excess starch
Great video. Ty.
Do you preserve any ginger or create powder, crystallized ginger etc.? Having a variety of preserved ginger is a good sub when you don’t have fresh.
I made a zucchini version of your cucumber kim chi, and it was quite good. I have such a problem getting the salt right in my ferments though. Is there any way to make them less salty after they are made if they taste too salty?
Hi, the extra extra large sheet trays on your counter in front of you. Where did you purchase those?
Thank you 😊
They are for the XL freeze dryer from Harvest Right (linked in description)
I’m not a fan of those snow peas either. We like Oregon Sugar pod II for snow peas. 😊
I have a lot harder time getting the regular mouth sealers to work than the wide mouth. I actually ordered another one thinking mine was defective...nope. I'll try the two-lid trick....
Would love to see reusable vac bags
Is there a vacuum sealer that you recommend!?
Which carrots are these? I grew St. Valery this year and they are doing well but small!
what about using moisture absorber food packets in the jars
Have you tried freeze dried sugar snap peas as crisps?
What type of stove do u have?
What was the can sealer thing?
Just subscribed, what state are you in?
We are in Arkansas 👍🏼
You produce a lot of food.
😁
Is she saying, garlic and onion "scape" powders? I can't understand what she's saying for sure. Thanks in advance.
garlic scape powder and onion powder. The onion powder was made from frozen green onions.
@@TheSeasonalHomestead Well thank you. I had never heard the term 'scape' in reference to alliums. Learn something new everyday!
Why must they be blanched first?
Stops an enzyme that needs to be taken care of before freezing. Maybe another viewer knows more. Hahaha
Put a damp towel under that cutting board to keep it from slipping around.
🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
Why wouldn't you make it again if all of the kids loved it? You might not have, but they did, and it gets them 2 eat veg.
Probably not nothing exists yet can't cime now
Is she pregnant?
Im glad i don't make anything from here 😂😂😂
