I need to do this on my 02 Outback's passenger headlight, its been pointing way too high for years! Seems like a straight forward and easy adjustment to perform after watching this video. Thank you very much!
I don't have a subaru, but it may work on my buddies Jeep who's lights are out of whack.. If it don't it is worth a try anyhow. Thanks again for taking the time to share this with us and I hope you have a blessed week. dale
Thank you, I'm going to check this out tomorrow. I always pass inspection but my drivers light is high and my passengers is low. I think they can be adjusted better to suit driving at night.
Good luck. I found the best tool (for my Subaru 2005 impreza) was a socket wrench and 8 mm socket. I didn't have to remove battery or the intake vent. I did unscrew the intake vent so I could edge it out of the road. The ChrisFix video shows how to get the right level.
Cool. I know that older cars had to be adjusted every now and then but I didn't know that you could still adjust them on the newer cars......Take care, Bluefin.
I would look at the ChrisFix video 'chrisfix headlight adjustment'. Really easy to understand. I didn't want to go to a parking lot at night, but was able to get enough distance backing out from my garage. I think they should be level.
So that's which is which... I couldn't discern enough change when I was turning the screws to be sure what was happening, combined with being parked on very uneven ground I just gave up. Now I'll have to tackle it.
I’ve adjusted mine back and forth and really can’t see any change unfortunately, I’m wondering if my bumper might be out of alignment or if I need to replace the lenses in general since the adjustment doesn’t seem to be moving either direction
Awesome video. I have to adjust my headlights and have to do so in my garage. How high is your beam from the floor when you’re that close? Can’t find any specs.
Check out the ChrisFix video (just search on youtube for ChrisFix headlight adjustment). He shows how to mark the right level for your headlights against the garage wall and then how to back up 25' and do the adjustment.
You have a Dot on the Glass usually dead Center on the Eyeball. Measure from that Dot to the Ground, then measure the garage door up. e.g. 25" then put tape on the door the same height and back up your car 25 feet turn on your lights and Aim at the Door for proper height!
Thanks for the specifics about how to access. I'm about to tackle this on my Subaru Impreza. Question. I've researched and chrisfix says that you need to aim them onto the wall at 25'. This makes sense to me as mine are high when I'm about 25' away and if right up against the wall, they look aligned. Thoughts?
Anne Thompson I'm way late to the party here but 25' is the basic rule. You want the left headlight to be around 28" high and the right one to be around 30". The center of the beam should be around 36" apart from one another. I used to deliver newspapers at night and this method worked out very well for me. Put this video and my method together and you should be golden for the video creator did an excellent job showing how to make adjustments.
@bhans603 it's tricky but I figured it out. There are adjustment screws on the back of the headlights. For the drivers side I used a long 1/4" extension with I think an 8mm socket. For the passenger side, I believe you can remove the air box but I used a Dremel to remove a small piece of plastic then I was able to use a small wrench and turn the screw. It was either an 8mm or 10mm, can't remember
Great advice for those Subaru owners Ray! Thanks brother!
Thanks Doug
Had to do it so I thought I might as well share

Yep, thanks for watching
After installing a new pair they are so cockeyed none of the light even shines on my lane of the road. Thanks for the help!
😁👊🏻
Any thoughts on the idea of keeping the drivers side lower so not to blind oncoming traffic. Raising the passenger to give more distance to light up.

I'm not sure about that I guess. Might try to consult a Subaru mechanic about that. Hope it works out for you
I usually like to aim the driver side light more closer down on the road and on the passenger side have the light raised upward a bit!
So that's which is which... I couldn't discern enough change when I was turning the screws to be sure what was happening, combined with being parked on very uneven ground I just gave up. Now I'll have to tackle it.
Yep👍 Damn metric system 😊
Thanks!!! You may have just saved me an unnecessary service trip!

I have to do this on my Forester beam is up to the sky on the driver side

I tried to do it on my 2017 Forester but I couldn't locate the part where you said turning clockwise would lower down the beam.
I'll have to look at my wife's 2013 and see if I can find it

Clockwise as in tighten correct??

Does clockwise move it left or right for the horizontal adjustment

Hi, can I adjust my Scooby Forester Boxer 2009 the same way please
Not really sure but worth a shot
Mine are all the way to left and right and still are way too center...
Hi, nice info. Is that the same can be done on 2016 Forester ?
Thanks 👍🏻 😊
Not sure about that but wouldn't surprise me
