Oh heavens, another "must watch" channel on my growing list. Master craftsmanship is wonderful to watch along with the personalities! Thank you for bringing us along Tom (Tom) - much appreciated. Looking forward to all the adventures you have to offer...
That was cool to get to help out with some college project. I hope their race went very well. I am gonna have to ask my friend with an electric car the last time he got an oil change lolol. Thanks for the video!
You know what makes the Banana do so well. So you can pick what you want to copy from it . Cool bumper. It probably saves you a lot having the customers weld it ✓
Harbor Freight makes a hydraulic lift table that is awesome. It raises high enough to unload from a truck bed. Would work great lifting that bumper for you.
Get softer suspension with more travel for dig dug! Also give it a boom arm and turn it into a mini wrecker! Would be sick to see little dig dug with its little boom following the wrecker one day as support
Great stuff Tom, you' re channel is gonna go crazy; your knowledge and experience are amazing! Being a welder and fabricator are amazing gifts and save soooooo much $$$ and errors others would make....not to mention you're on YOUR timeline, not someone else's.....
Matt found his "modified" hammer! 😁 Loving the bumper fab. Watching you work reminds me of a sculptor's response when asked how he created statues, "I start with a stone and just chisel off everything that is not the statue". Perfect.
Your on to something here Tom. Love Matt's but this is a variation for welders and builders with more focus. Nice to see a guy who can really weld and plan a project.
I love that Silerstone Metallic color, I had a 00 XJ "Desert Sand Pearl" aka Grandpa Gold but sold it in a pinch, biggest regret in my car owning life. Matt carved up Jamie's "Amber Fire Pearl" XJ aka The Tangerine for a project but if he knew how rare that color option was he probably wouldn't have did it. His Banana XJ was originally "Maroon" which was also a rare color finish. The XJ is one of the best mid sized 4x4's ever made. Everyone loves to drive them because they handle like a sports car which makes them super fun to drive. The XJ platform is awesome and the after market parts are endless! I can't wait to see what Tom Tom does with this XJ. BTW, Matt is on the lookout for the culprit who cut the claw off his hammer! He might seek revenge soon Tom Tom!
Really fine work. Loved all the extra trip info (BYU and log gathering). Enjoying the videos you're putting out and look forward to others in the future.
17:20 heck my back even felt that 😂 i would say its solid! The final test: matt always says that his bumper/winch should be able to hang the vehicle off of a tree just fine. Should you find a solid tree and show him who's boss?😂
Tom Tom, have you ever thought about being an adjunct instructor for welding or pre-engineering at a community College or trade school? You would be awesome I think (and I have 35 years of teaching experience under my belt to base that on.)
Great teacher and showing us how most of us build our rigs. One part at a time..when we can afford it! And then the testing!! I appreciate that some TH-camrs get a full load from UPS and go bumper to bumper and that’s ok, but that’s not the world most of us deal with. Thanks !
Your technical content is outstanding, as is your video production. Loaded with beautiful fabrication, yet you still show your personal values. Not LDS myself, but I appreciate you don't edit that aspect of your life out to hide it like some people do.
Nevermind the bumper and winch... but that Trash Can. I wanna hear about it. It held everything you threw at it like a champ! Good job on the bumper and funky mounted winch.
Your bottoming out issue is easily solved with the correct shock absorber system. That coupled with jousts stops work really well with softer springs. really clean looking bumper. love it. i hope to someday build my own rear bumper for my PK ranger. sadly here in new Zealand we don't have a place like barns4wd.
Hello Tom, very nice video. Good idea. It is better if you weld from the inside to the outside, so that the material tension slowly reduces towards the outside. You know this yourself, it's standard in the nuclear sector and it's the right thing to do. The Cherokee, great Jeep, slightly higher, with larger wheels, reinforced shock absorbers and axles. Super. We had these, the G model from Mercedes Benz and the Land Rovers as vehicles on construction sites in North and South America, Africa, Arabia, Australia, Asia and also in Russia. Logically, they were ordered that way, cost a lot of money, but we were able to do our job without delays and the company earned good money. Stay healthy, best wishes from Frankfurt.
Hey TomTom, very nice of you to help these students. 15 years ago I was also part of a german Formula Student Team and I remember that welding was every year a time critical bottle neck in our project plan. In general I really like your new Channel. Nevertheless I was really sad to see you leave MORR. Especially from an engineering perspektive. 😉
Nice video Tom, very well edited. People kill me when they put too much explanation or end up repeating themselves a bunch. I like how simple the Barnes fab kits are.
Toms an intelligent and cool dude! If you have a shop and resource to do what Tom can do that’s real cool! If you don’t……,bolt it together. We’ve owned that Cherokee. Don’t be fooled, the ghosts in the machine doesn’t allow this to be a daily driver. Costs to operate is over $1k a year not including gas, insurance etc. I love what Tom does he’s the best.
That's a nice looking XJ, you don't find them that nice everyday. These old XJ's work really well even in stock form. The new stuff they are selling today will not go and do what these XJ's will. I don't see many like this one (whatever year models that had this body style) in my part of the country anymore, the salt has claimed most of them. I haven't seen a nice one in years. Some of the junkyards use them to get around their muddy yards but you get wet and muddy riding in them thru the holes that are everywhere,. The bumper is a great addition and looks good on there. It can be used like a real bumper instead of just filling a hole like the original one. This one seems to crawl quite well, have you already worked on the diffs without telling us? Your videos are great, keep them coming and we will watch.
I can see you are having a lot of fun editing. Since my brother is a content creator, I understand the hours and skills required to select and match music to the actions--expecially to the speed welding sequences.
The welds on that bumper were beautiful, and then you cleaned it up anyway. And unpainted it goes really well with the silver paint on the XJ. The BYU cars were cool too!
