Love the video. Is there any real advantage to switch out an xxl controller for the reprap. Any way to add baby steps to the xxl controller?
Does this controller have an issue with knob rotations registering more then one click at the time when you turn it ?
It makes it impossible to navigate to what menu i need. Always skips over.
Do you have any extra upgrades or parts for the Robo r1?
can you recommend good software to design objects for my printer and a good arduino board for learning?

Did you ever make a video for the controllers case? I can't seem to find a full-graphics case controller on Thingiverse, only one for the XXL controller.
Couldn't find the one that I have on my printer, and I plan to do a video after I had a solid case mount.
However I did find some cases on thingiverse that will work

I got a controller but it doesn't have the white pcb. Do I need to use a different controller? Says 12864 RepRap discount full graphics smart controller but it's a red pcb and I keep getting collect2.exe error:Id returned 1 exit status

Hey when I took the bottom panel of the printer the fan cable slipped off the connector to fast that I didn't see where it was attached to? Google images was not my friend. Can you take a look see for me? Thanks!

im watching you videos very help full, im really new in 3d world :) my printer not printing i have no idea that is the problem,i bought used to play with, ROBO3d R1 Plus model. I already clean the nozzle. when im pushing PLA it is coming out when i print calibration circle does't print even. Please help me how to ? & what to check?. One more question how to check what motherboard this printer is using.
I would recommend making a detailed thread about your issue on the Robo3D forum.
There is always someone there to help, me on the other hand have work and school, help from me may not be to consistent.

hi I ordered an LCD screen for my robo 3d r1 a few months ago and up until now it's worked fine but now I'll set the fan speed to a 100 and check it five minutes later and it will have changed to either 255 or 0 do you think this could be caused by firmware or just a faulty LCD? thanks!
If it worked fine and you didn't re-flash firmware, it would have to be the LCD
I hooked this LCD screen to my R1 + last night with a good firmware update. I unhooked the USB, was able to heat extruder and bed and homed the extruder. It did not show my SD card (16 gb) so I attempted to reload my file to my SD. I LCD screen was frozen now and would not respond to dial changes. Not knowing what else to do I power off my machine, and restarted only to get a plain blue screen. I uploaded the firmware again and still noting. Any suggestions?
Only thing I can think of is that the emergency stop button got pressed. Sorry it's been so long for me to respond

Edwin Veenboer Great question, you redefine (or un-define) the pin. On my version of firmware (ROBO3DR1V3_06112015) it is in pins.h, line 606. There you will find # define BEEPER 37. Change that to pin -1 (instead of pin 37) recompile and re-upload, and the beep will try to be produced on a pin that is non-existent.

Should be, if that doesn't solve the issue use "Ctrl+F" to find the pin set for "_FULL_GRAPHIC_SMART_CONTROLLER" and make BEEPER pin -1

My LCD broke when moving the printer around, if I buy another one will it work???
If your LCD broke, then yes a new one would fix it.
If you broke your printer a new LCD controller will not.

Hey, i've bought a knock off smart lcd controller from ebay. Can anything get broken and is it safe to plug it in?
Well... Any short circuit can damage the electronics in your printer.
But I'm sure that won't happen; unless it's a really really bad knock off.

The controller has arrived but the arduino has something pluged in where you put the cable
That's the SD card reader that comes with the printer. You can unplug it if you install the Smart Controller
I watched your video multiple times and even contacted Robo 3d for support and am at a loss here. I am unable to unpack the library to operate the LCD that you are using here. I have tried countless times. Is there a way you could send me a copy of your Sketch with the library installed so I can just flash the Arduino and get my LCD working? I appreciate your time.
I run a hacked up custom version of a release candidate, but I can link you one that should work with the LCD. (next comment)

I can't seem to get my original firmware to compile. I might have to change my Arduino version before I can compile properly.
Ok thank you. I updated mine in hopes to get the lcd working and now my z axis is flipped and i cant get it to home. Havent been able to print in a long while and its bumming me out lol

+dragnet53 If you are talking about Matter Control Touch, it's pretty cool but it's an extra $300. The LCD controller I use is only $20, but because the Robo 3D is ramps on top of Arduino using marlin it makes it easy to use any LCD controller.

If it is not on that exact line search (with ctrl + f) "#endif // motherboard == 33"
There should only be one result
Then scroll up to "#ifdef REPRAP_DISCOUNT_SMART_CONTROLLER"
under that you will see the pins
