Well here's the lore guy: Vikala is one of the 12 divine generals who guard one of the twelve temples of the cardinal directions just like Anila, the original 12 divine generals were people who rose up to protect the inhabitants of the islands of the sky from the astrals during the war, they all had different talents and abilities, at the end of the war they were divided into 12 temples where they protected, over time the duties of the temples were changed by the personalities of the guardians, they are managed by some descendant of the originals (like Anila and Vikala), the temple of the dog for example, they are master swordsmen and raise sword dogs as companions, the temple of the cow raises cattle for rites and its temple is almost a basically agricultural market,
about Vikala herself she is the leader of the temple of the rat, which is a kind of park and idol concert, Vikala is normally loaded with negative energy and her hair is black being a disaster to interact with people and having a low self-esteem, when she puts on her mouse ears that energy disperses her hair turns white and her personality becomes more lively and outgoing, she has as a familiar a kind of sentient bear trap (I know it sounds random but the cow has a sentient motorcycle and the dog's she her dogs are swordsmen and can talk) and she is basically the idol of the island of the temple of the rat

Kinda unrelated but yeah I do find it funny that the character representing The Rat Chinese Zodiac is also a walking Mickey Mouse (Or Disney as a whole company) reference and I'm not making that up.
@@Sem-ifinalist The divine generals are quite funny, the rabbit one for example is indirectly to blame for there being girls in bunny outfits in casinos, because he was a hardened gambler but with incredible luck and people began to believe it was because of his ears so they tried to imitate him until rabbits and casinos became associated concepts, in contrast the group of the vintage weapons or the evokers (the "group" of Nier) is the opposite being extremely dark and twisted whit things like betrayals, murder, cannibalism among other things.
@@meijinraditya2887 and they embrace it completely, in the mobile game big part of Vikala's kit revolves around her skill that changes the field to "utopia" which is basically her temple / Disneyland-like amusement park that gives multiple effects to allies

She has backstory similar to Chuck E. Cheese, growing up in orphanage not knowing their own birthday and such, and also her skills in gacha have a special voiceline when it's your account's birthday, similarly to how Chuck E. Cheese is known for being a place to celebrate birthdays.
Oh yeah, and her nickname being "Vicky" seems like an obvious reference to "Micky" as well as the fact that her ears look like Micky Mouse ears.
I love Vikala's backstory. To put it simply, she is an orphan, had a traumatic childhood, she treated pretty harshly by her peers and superiors and even told by her best and only friend that she should be more selfish since she herself is in a poorer situation and should let people who are better off be kind.
And instead of becoming jaded and bitter towards everyone and the world, and with a little help from Dormouse, she sewed her own outfit, made every accessory, and organize a big bright parade so for one moment in everyone's miserable life, they can feel happy again. Not because she feels motivated make people happy, rather she is happier making others feel brighter. She pictured herself with big rat ears, so she can listen to hardships and turn that negative emotion into joy.
In her words, Utopia.
That is so sad but also so hopeful
Thank you for sharing the backstory. I was curious myself as someone who hasn’t followed Granblue and it is nice to know that there is a purpose behind it.

The real Vikala is basically Bocchi from Bocchi the Rock, a barely functioning socially awkward introvert.

Her back throw animation is the best thing ever
I love how her and Anila are so happy fighting. Like, there's a few things in that universe that can take down one of these Gods, almost literally Gods, so why being tense when you can wipe them if you want?
Her animations are so smooth. Her spot dodge is 10/10
looks like random item toss like Faust/Platinum. Has a trap but doesn't seem like her gameplay revolves around it like Cag. Overall looks fun to play.

Season 2 for early 2025 huh,. the wait for season 2 reveals is gonna be great.
I find it weird that they didn't give her a Yintopia mode, since that aspect of her character is the entire reason behind her gigantic popularity, to the point where you barely see this version of her character appearing in the gacha these days (and when she does appear with her rat ears on, she generally loses them to some contrivance very quickly).
Edit: For those who don't know, this version of Vikala is actually a fake extrovert persona she achieves by using a form of self-hypnosis triggered by putting her rat headband on. The real Vicky is a huge introvert (or a "Yintopian" as she puts it) with extreme social anxiety, to the point where she can barely talk or interact with other people. She also happen to be incredibly cute, funny and moe while in that state, hence the massive popularity.
her most recent version in the gacha (halloween) has her in yang mode pretty much the entire time. Her only gacha version that is in yin mode is summer (and she has a premium summer skin as well that's in yang mode). This is a fighting game, and she only fights in yang mode, so it'd be weird for that to not be how it works. Besides, we haven't seen her win poses (it wouldn't surprise me if she had a yin mode appearance there) and her yin mode *is* already in the background in the zodiac stage

@@10001vader Well some characters have a punish state where they are without tools, like how Death goes limp if you hit her out of a combo, but I get why it isn't used. It was a big reason why I was thinking she wouldn't get in in the first place, but turns out the best way is to not mechanically use it
tbh tho in her recent fate episodes it's not really a fake extrovert persona at that point but really a part of her that just comes up whenever the headbands are on

I hope she comes with an easter egg or something where you can take the ears off and and she keeps fighting but her poses shift slightly from confident to shy. Like in her R version.
After all her brave points are gone those ears are getting removed like Vega’s mask, probably… but only at the end of a combo in case she’s using them up during one.
Ive waited since the original game for her to drop. Yall better be ready for my main bois
