Written back in 1957 by Scottish singer/songwriter Ewan Maccoll for Peggy Seeger. A relative of the greatest Folk Rocker Pete Seeger. The Roberta Flack version was used in the 1971Clint Eastwood movie "Play Misty For Me." Her rendition of the song captured a worldwide audience and made the song one of the greatest loved ballads ever.
Peggy was Pete Seeger's sister and when Ewen McColl wrote this for her she was his lover as he was already married to someone else. Kirsty McColl was one of his children from the first marriage.

Whitney was great and I am not meaning to disrespect her vocals in any way!! But Ms. Roberta's voice was like butter and silk!! Her voice was as smooth as anyone's could ever be. Roberta’s first album First Take is a masterpiece as well as her second Chapter 2. Her duets especially with Donny Hathaway are classics. I have followed her ever since Les McCann introduced her (@1969).
