Roberta Flack is one of the most underrated singers of the 20th century. My god, that *timbre* is just exquisite, her control is impeccable, her phrasing perfect. Fab pianist too.
Amen❤❤❤
Yes
True
If I remember correctly Ms.R.was a school teacher .
She was my favorite artist!
This and Killing Me Softly are 2 of the most beautiful love songs ever.
Agreed. She doesn't get the credit she deserves. Such a gorgeous voice.😊
💯
Killing me softly ❤❤❤❤
When those songs come on my radio the volume goes up.
Her voice just flows like silk.I always loved the way Roberta Flack sang this song. Just listen to the way she sings. You have to hear her because it can't be put into words. No room for error. Just one beautiful performance.
Very difficult song to sing, and she did it flawlessly ❤️
You will NEVER hear a better composed song than this. Absolute perfection.
Written by Ewan McColl for Peggy Seeger
So glad you chose the studio version.... never heard anything so hauntingly beautiful!!
I think they cheat themselves when their first hear is a live. Version!
For me, this is the most beautiful love song ever and sung by a marvelous singer. ❤❤❤❤❤
The radio had this on 30 minute repeat for months when it came out. Weddings had it played often. Roberta Flack is a seriously talented artist, as you now know.
I heard this for the first time when Flack appeared on the Johnny Carson show. Most beautiful thing I had ever heard. I'll never forget how stunning it was.
💯
The 1970"s was the greatest decade of music across all genres. This was one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard. Her diction is so perfect.
OMG....One of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs ever!!! I get misty just remembering this song.
Her voice, her presence. Wow , what a song!
The legend goes this is the first take, no cuts edits or crap. Also NO autotune
Luther Vandross was her back up singer. One day she heard him testing the equipment while she did an interview. She fired him because she didn't want him to ever be comfortable being a back up singer. He is an awesome talent and she was great for pushing him. If you have never listened to Luther please do so. Start with Here and Now
Growing up, I was so spoiled by all the music I had to choose from. The older I get the more I appreciate talents like the amazing Roberta Flack. They truly are unique and rare treasures. This is an incredible song made perfect by Ms. Flack.
Me too
EASILY one of the most-beautiful love songs of all-time. EASILY
No bells and whistles just a clear well enunciated pure voice. Beautiful. ❤️🌹
Whenever I listen to Roberta Flack, I break out in chills.
She's simply magnificent. 😍
Roberta is one of the greatest American singers ever and a true treasure for all who love real music
The song was written about singer Peggy Seeger by her husband Euan McColl
Forgot how perfect this is . Her voice gorgeous, that ladies and gentlemen is a love song👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sometimes less is more. Her seemingly bare bones delivery adds volumes to the intimacy of her song! This is a classic!
Such purity of diction. What I love about Ms Flack and many classic singers is how they pronounce every letter. If there is a ‘t’ at the end of a word, you hear it.
In the era of rock, this song, this voice took the world by storm. Still glorious today.
She really put her heart in this one. You can FEEL the words! Always a treasure.
Name another better "Slow Song" for a wedding dance?.... I'll wait.
Rainbow in the sky by Stevie wonder is right there
One of the greatest recordings ever. I love her. I love this.
Fun fact: the composer of this amazing and beautiful song is also most famous for writing “Dirty Old Town,” made famous by no one’s idea of traditional beauty, Ireland’s The Pogues.
Still the most beautiful vocal I’ve ever heard
Such a beautiful song. The original and best version
Ms Flack is one of the very best of all time. Full stop. No one can hold a note like her. She blows me away. I CANNOT hear her without crying. 🏵️❤️🏵️
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Melts my heart.
Like soft ripples, her voice washes over you at sunset on a lonely beach.
This is one of the best love songs in history of any genre. This is a cover version, but Roberta Flack's interpretation is the best of all. I'm also glad you chose the original recording rather than a live version that most reactors have chosen. This was the song we heard on the radio and is the best version ever. Just great beyond words.
Anyone who can listen to this unmoved has a heart of stone. I've heard it many times over my life and I still get chills. She was just as good, if not better, in live performance. Accept no covers, this is Roberta Flack's song and always will be!
Roberta Flack and Gladys Knight are literal queens❣🎙🎶
Likely the most beautiful song ever recorded. Roberta Flack’s voice is unparalleled. So glad you listened to this.
Yes, she has one of the most beautiful singing voices ever, period, and her interpretation of this song is irrefutable proof. Listen also to her singing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” - yes, that same song previously done in a cutesy-teenybopper-bubble-gum style by the Shirelles. The difference between those two interpretations is breathtakingly stark to the point that it’s hard to believe they’re even doing the same song. Flack’s warm-honey voice makes it almost a spiritual experience, and she should have had a Grammy award for it, at the very least. Her pianistic skill is also pure art, and straight from her heart. She is truly a musician extraordinaire.
Another favorite, released in 1972, from Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway, that I think you'll like is ""Where Is the Love" 💔 It was super popular back then and ideally showcases both of their stupendous voices.✨
Nobody could perform this song like Roberta Flack. As TheoZoffrok said, she was the most underrated singers of the 20th century.
This was the number 1 Billboard song of 1972. Perfection.
In her era, I would stop whatever I was doing when I heard her come on the radio and just soak in her songs. Too beautiful to even describe. the world needs more Roberta Flack.
This song is like a blooming flower, it cannot be rushed.
This is why we watch reactions.
It is an amazing thing to see someone's DNA change before our eyes.
Hearing(really hearing) thease masterpieces will affect our childrens children.
Now thats how you sing a song. No runs no warbling just pure magic
Silky with just a smidgeon of texture. Perfection.
Yes...so beautiful. When this song came on the air the radio was no longer just playing in the background, you stopped what you were doing and paid attention. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
First time I heard this in ‘69 I was 14 and let me tell you…we ALL loved it. It pulled us in…so beautiful. Thanks!
Roberta Flack's voice is exquisite. It flows with feelings. It is soft, but powerful. So beautiful
Roberta Flack turns love into a prayer with this song. And it deserves the upmost reverence. So lovely.
Girl, the rotter, that's a that's so good thought it's scared good f. C. I. R. A, it's scary. That's just, I don't know. You know. I don't know. It's beyond it's beyond
This is not even Marco potato I like country, music. Don't get me wrong. I like rock and roll. I like some disco there might be a rap song or 2 I like I like jazz I like a little everything. How much do I lis than a country? I listen to some songs like this, but wow VS Homer, however.
How can I listen to this song here? And why can't I junlock this? I like this kind of music. It's just for right now. I'm sort of on a hillbilly. I'm a kind of like country. Music like I say I'll listen to a rock and roll song. I'll listen to This Girl. I'm not listening to a rap song. I'm not listening to the jaz. Turn off I got some while for this
She should've signed a lot lots more solid shoes. She couldn't have done a better job on that song. What the music touched on is it true the music was amazing
Such a smooth, soothing voice that commands attention! Beautiful!
I remember this when it first came out and it still gives me chills
She's worth a look live, if you've a mind to. Just for yourself.
Roberta Flack is one of my all-time favorite female artist. Love this song!!! Love her ❤❤❤❤
Oh Roberta, what a beautiful legend❤one of the best of all time.
Roberta's other big hit was Killing Me Softly. You might be familiar with the Fugees cover of that one.
Play Misty for Me
This song always makes me cry.
PERFECT diction, and pitch. Just a perfect song in every aspect.
Sooo magnificent.
No screaming ..
Absolute control .
One of the greatest love songs!
Roberta Flack had the most beautiful voice. This took me back to the very early 70's, when I went to the show to see 'Play Misty For Me', with a very young Clint Eastwood. This song played a lot in there. It was heavenly, and it still is. Thank you for playing this....and the memories.
The most beautiful song ever. Her voice perfect
One of the most beautiful songs ever.❤
This is one of the best love song of all time, sung perfectly by my favorite female singer. I don’t think anyone could sing this song better than her ❤
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever. Glad you discovered it
Great song Great singer and the song is probably in my top 15 of all time
So what you are saying is this song is perfect in every aspect. And I totally agree!
i walked down the aisle to the opening music of extended 1969 LP version of this song. LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! Great reaction!
You need the watch her do this live in 1972 - there's something very moving and magical watching her sing this beautiful song.
A song written by socialist folk artist Ewan Mcoll, about his long time American partner.
Mcolls daughter was Kirsty Mcoll.
I'm so glad you found Roberta Flack she is most certainly one of my favorites. I thought I'd suggest another song with two artists performing together, if interested. "Lisa Stansfield, Barry White - All Around The World (Official Music Video) (by the channel: LisaStansfieldtv) --This song is a collaboration between the soulful Barry White and the talented Lisa Stansfield. It was originally included on Stanfield's debut studio album called "Affection" released in 1989. As always, I enjoyed rocking with you and thanks for sharing.
Okay. You just ripped me back in time with this one. I’ll never forget. Dang tears. ♥️🇺🇸
I have always loved this song and the way Roberta sings. I really enjoy your reactions, succinct and eloquent. Thank you
I was young when this song came out. It still gives me chills hearing it. Thank you for not interrupting like other reactors do. Such a beautiful love song.
Lovely...Ruberta Flack...just LOVELY💃☘️
Roberta Flack for me sums up my late teens when I listened to her constantly. Her voice is unique and special, strong and intensely beautiful . Including her collabs with Donny Hathaway ❤️❤️❤️
You nailed another one. Most concise and on the money reactions I've found on TH-cam.
Roberta and this song is absolutely beautiful ❤️
This is a BEAUTIFUL classic! You HAVE to love this song! She sang it perfectly too! Just gorgeous!!!!❤❤❤
This is the most beautiful song ever written and sung. It can bring me to tears every time. Perfect lyrics - perfect voice.
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED ROBERTA FLACK
Like when a parent first sets eyes on their new born baby. xx
Timeless and forever beautiful. Another favorite from this incredible woman is " Making Love "
The ULTIMATE love song ❤
Roberta Flack has a voice that can reach in and touch your heart from the inside. What a fantastic talent. Thank you for playing this one-of-a-kind beautiful talent. She knows what
love is.
She was a master pianist,
Nobody does it better ❤
This gorgeous song! I'd forgotten about it after all these years. Thank you for playing and reacting to it.
The live version is incredible. Just Roberta playing the piano and singing. Absolutely perfect.
The most beautiful and perfect love song ever written. I remember the first time I heard it I cried and it still stirs up emotions.
Doesn't matter how many times I've listened to this song it moves me almist o tears every time it is that emotive of a song wirh Roberta's vocals, her piano and these anazing lyrics. It is such a timeless mastepiece.
Roberta Flack, Oleta Adams, Karen Carpenter...... All perfection personified...
I am 65. When I was 21 I heard this song for the first time as I lay awake all night listening to it over and over as my heart broke. It took me many years before I could listen to it again. This beautiful song still marks the greatest sorrow I ever endured.
Just beautiful, and one of my favorite songs.
I have heard other covers, but this is HER song.
It's a womans song, and I think it suits the female voice better.
Also covered by Alison Moyet and George Michael.
But all the praise goes to Ms. Flack. Haunting and ethereal. Love it ❤
I love watching the listener go from listening to feeling the music, the message....
This song is perfection my friend.
I'm so glad I grew up in an era that had real love songs. The poignant lyrics with her beautiful vocals just screams class. Not like today's music.
Love this song and always loved her voice. The song was featured in the 1971 Clint Eastwood movie Play Misty For Me. Another great song off this same album is her cover of a Leonard Cohen song "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" which I highly recommend for you to give a listen to.
Her voice is so soothing! I loved hearing this song on the radio.
I started noticing and loving the soulful, smooth sound in Roberta's voice when i was a toddler. Yes, i can remember back that far and I'm almost 55. Her voice is THE sound of beauty.
I was lucky to see her perform in Cleveland in the 70's. Beautiful ❤
Not aure if anyone else committed on this but this song was prominently played in the movie "Play Misty For Me". What a beautiful, moving and emotional song.
