Steve i am a big fan ov you, and i wanted to ask you , what is the best 65 inch tv to buy? coz i wanna get the best tv for my house.
Thank you Steve
That’s a loaded question because I reviewed all kinds of TVs. The Hisense U8H my be the best deal at this time.
There are still a few of us who appreciate a decent quality screen on a budget without spending extra on all of the latest features that we probably never even knew existed.
And for older folks who don’t buy TVs every other year - my aunt has a Panasonic 1080p flatscreen tv from 2009/2010 - so anything she gets today would be an upgrade regardless if it’s Sony’s entry level or not lol 😂
@@MG-jv7pe my dad has a 2014 panasonic 720p tv with blown speakers i told him ill get him a good tv a name brand and i think ill get this.
Exactly... I'm looking for a shop TV. My living room TV is still a 52" Samsung I bought in 2006-2007, for $1600!
The funny thing is that cheap TVs like this one can last decades and they don't suffer from blooming or burn-in while the expensive premium ones suffer from that and hardly last long.
@illogical1421 you can say the same about cars
Thanks Steve, appreciate you continuing to cover lower-end sets "for the rest of us" if I may put it that way. Although I'm sitting tight on what I currently have, I will definitely check out your reviews when the time comes to look at something new in either the living room or spare room! This looks like a pretty decent reasonably priced set.
👍🏽
Great review Steve, I really appreciate you bought this TV yourself and did such an in depth review on a lower end model. One of which many reviewers barely touch because latest and greatest is all the rage.
Subbed to your channel, hopefully you do a review of the Sony X90L that hopefully might be a sweet spot for people who can't afford these OLED and QD-OLED flagships. Thanks again for the great content.
Great video! We just bought the X77L 43" to replace our 10-year-old Vizio TV in our bedroom. We don't need all the bells and whistles, just great picture quality and good wifi. It sounds like the X77L will be good. If I want something for the living room, then I agree to upgrade to newer Sony Bravia technology (e.g., nano) and a great soundbar. Thanks again! Have a great weekend!
You’re welcome
Excellent review. Just what I needed to know. THANKS!
You’re welcome
Sony should definitely keep making budget entry level Smart TV’s because some people want great picture quality at a low price. I just recommended this TV to my mom since she’s looking for a new TV at a low price.
Good to make quality tvs for every budget and consumer type. I prefer the x90L series and up but x77 is a tv using older technology that keeps picture quality really nice.
Hi Steve, excellent video and really helpful. I’m currently in the process of buying a new TV (old Bravia is having some issues!) and I’m torn between the X89K or the X75WL (both 50 inch screens). I’ll be using it for PS5 gaming, but we also watch movies & NFL. The X89K is £100 more at the moment, but is it worth that? Are there any features I’d be missing out on going for the lower model? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Great job on your review you have answered all my questions
You’re welcome
Another fantastic review my friend! You got me thinking about soundbars. My older Sony one seems like it might be on its way out the out. It’s so hard to find a good soundbar with a subwoofer.
Sony should still make budget TVs.
I appreciate it
Thanks Steve. Watched your vid and I wen and bough a X77L x 62" yesterday. The color is great, not washed out like the samsung im replacing. 👍👍
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I have a 43 inch and its so good! Upscaling is crazy, crazy bright and minimal lag!
Got mine yesterday
43 is worse than higher models?
We boight a 55" Sony Bravia 14 years ago, and it is STILL going. Picture is not as bright as it was then, but still perfectly acceptable. We bought it at Costco way back when ($1700) and i would bet that it too was not top tier even at that time. My point is that Sony has delivered great, high quality tv for a good long time period at a fair price. I would expect this new(er) model to perform equally well.
Sony at every level is worth it - my parents have only ever had 3 TVs since I was a kid in the 80s - 2 Sony Trinitron and 1 Sony Bravia - they are just now getting a new Sony Bravia again. I doubt anyone can say that about Vizio or Hisense
It's crazy how good the blacks are on this entry level LCD TV...
Thank you for the great review. Which one would you pick between Sony - 43" Class X77L LED 4K UHD Smart Google TV priced at $350 or Hisense - 43" Class A6 Series LED 4K UHD HDR LED Google TV priced at $200?
Hi Steve, thanks for the great video. I am always told to go with 120hz TV for better motion, and I currently have a 60hz Sharp LED TV. Will the motionflow XR 240 satisfy my needs? I occasionally play ps5 and like to watch netflix in my spare time.
The motion is fine, but I feel that Sony TV are geared towards the absolute best movie experience
@TechSteve at 7:40 you talked about PC. Are you connected via remote desktop connection, or screen mirroring?
Nice video keep up the good work Tech Steve
I most definitely will
excellent video
Hi Steve, what's the storage capacity in the CU8000 and which brand provides the best after sale service.
Hi Steve. Thanks for the great review. So the X77L or the Samsung CU7000 i 75 inch or 65 inch. The Samsung got a better review primarily because it had better blacks. Samsung is also a couple hundred dollars less. I also like the Sony soundbar which is pushing me toward the X77L
Hi Steve, thank you for this review :)
I was wondering if you had any tips so we can calibrate this model by our own, thanx!!
Buy the calman software
@@TechSteve thank you ☺️
I'm one of those who still appreciate this models. I decided to upgrade from an 11 year old LCD. Although, I'm planning to still use it depending of the repairing costs because it is a 3D and not going to throw it in the trash if I can avoid it.
It’s good just remember the content source on 4k TVs will determine the picture quality. Try to use streaming content
Thanks for the review.
I'm picking up a 43" for $600 Canadian on Amazon. This compares to LG UHD at $450 and Samsung at $500. Both those are probably "better", but killer for me at this price point is the Sony will have more than good enough picture and is Android based, plus supports Apple Airplay. About the only app I subscribe to and want to add is MotoGP, which is not available for either the LG or the Samsung, so I would be in another $50 and another remote to juggle to add a Roku if I went LG/Samson.
All in all, the Sony looks like a good deal.
Thank you.
Thanks Steve for the very informative review. I was set to purchase the Samsung 43" Q60C QLED TV until I saw your review for this Sony X77L. The Sony is about $100 less, but I don't mind paying that much more for better picture quality. What are your thoughts between these two models. Thanks.
Hello!! Should I buy a Samsung Q60C or the Sony X77L for my playstation? Im planning on connecting a bluetooth speaker on the TV
could you share your settings for the TV? I am trying to tweak so that I can get the best picture quality possible, but I am not sure if I am doing it right
What is the default location for free/digital channel captions? Are they centered or to one side?
What do you suggest Steve Song x77L or Samsung Q60C?
Great detailing in your videos.
I am planning to buy either
a 65" sony X77L(2023 release) priced at 690$ currently
OR
a 65" sony X80k(2022 Release) priced at 800$ currently.
Suggestions, please!
Note: I am not a gamer person.
C80k more control and Dolby Vision
I did purchase the 75 inch model through your link. I'm still waiting on it from Amazon. I purchased it for our room we mainly watch sports in with a wide viewing seating arrangement. Did you have any advice to counter the white wash out if we were to watch some darker movies on this set? From watching various videos on this TV, it seems that perhaps disabling HDR for that kind of content may be the way to go to help that washout. Thanks!
I use a Apple TV on my Main Sony it makes the picture much better
How is the upscaling? We watch DISH satellite TV with a mix of SD and HD TV programming compared to other brands of TV’s you’ve reviewed in the same price range? We need to buy a new TV for the bedroom. Thanks for the informative video!
Not great if your source is interlaced and analogue, average for digital sources. I've seen Sony do much better but it's alright from a viewing distance. Samsung and LG are generally a little better but if you have the Sony in Standard picture mode (with default Clarity settings) it sharpens up SD a bit.
We ended up getting an inexpensive TV but if our internet speed ever improves, we’ll buy an OLED or mini LED TV to stream 4K programming. Thanks for the reply!
Once I did the upgrade from an older Bravia to this one ( 50" as I have a small apartment) and then did a receiver upgrade as well. The CEC option and using the HDMI arc/eARC it works really well. I turn on or off the tv using the tv remote and within about 4 seconds the receiver also turns on/off. Just wish the black remotes that come with the tvs were backlit somehow.
Hello Steve I need help!! Should I buy a Samsung Q60C or the Sony X77L for my playstation? Im planning on connecting a bluetooth speaker on the TV, thank you, Amazing video too!
This is my first good budget tv so I really can’t decide:(
65x77k or 55x80l? Cant decide between the two, i play ps5 which makes the 80l more appealing but in my country the 65x77k is cheaper and bigger! Insane..please help
Hey, just wondering if you think this tv would last more then two years lol, i have a RCA 55inch i beleive Roku tv and not even a year later there is lines across the screen and half the screen is back on start up for about T minutes. Also black screen on start up sometimes from the start. Thanks!
good review. got asurion credit from a 2019 samsung screen that started getting a white splotch(?)
this review helped me to pull the trigger. free advice folks, buy the 4 yr extended warranty
You hav two reviews that are poler opposites? I'm confused. Is this TV good or not?
Hi Steve, thanks for the reviews on budget TVs. What is the final decision if you were to buy a budget tv? In other words what's the best bang for the buck in a 55" TV?
I bought a Hisense A65 55" and cannot get a clear picture like it looked at Costco.
You need to use high quality paid streaming apps
@@TechSteve thx Steve for your prompt response.
I was hoping you would be able to recommend to our family a good TV in the $400 range.
@TechSteeve can you do review for panasonic LX650Z
Hey Steve, trying to decide between the Sony x80k from 2022, versus the x77l from 2023. For some reason the 2022 model is $300 more than the x77l. Any thoughts? Thanks. Great channel!
Same I cant decide lol
the x80k has support for Dolby vision. I have one and i dont see any advantage. It's not $300 difference.
what tv is best under 700 right now for picture quality and color ONLY?
Great review but I would include panel type and nits of peak brightness. Although you did mention that might be an ips panel.
Nah, not anymore the specs online sometimes are correct so I’m done with that
Hi Steve
Question what’s a better option
Sony 50” X77L or Hisense 50” A6K? I’m looking to get a new tv and these two have my attention
I'm not a professional but personally, I prefer Sony tvs. I feel like Sony delivers great quality sound and picture. I am bias though; I've loved Sony products all my life.
Also, it depends on the details you like. I was suck between a LG and Sony TV but what caught my eye was the remote difference. The LG remote had a bulky design, unnecessary number pad (I don't watch cable, so the digits are useless to me) and I did not like the remote streaming options for one-click access. The Sony remote was very slim, minimal button options (which i like), and the streaming options for one-click access was perfect. (netflix, Prime, disney, and youtube, literally the only things i watch). I currently have a 55 inch x80K Sony in my living room and I love it. I plan on getting this 43 inch x77L sony for the bedroom.
Is this better than the Hisense U7K? Or the Sony X80L?
Hi, could you please make review on Sony X82L model.
Which is better Soney X77L or samsung QLED q60 65 inches ?
Wot a decent review…!! Does 43” has an HDMI eARC feature??
Yes
Very helpful, Steve! Before we take it out of the box (and sorry if this is a dumb question) will our recently purchased Sony X77L TV be compatible with the Xfinity/Comcast X1 wireless cable box and app? The specs indicate it has two Bluetooth USB ports..? We are tired of Spaghetti Junction behind the TV. (Yes, yes, yes, we mostly stream entertainment, but we still want broadcast TV for up-to-the-minute news and weather.) We also purchased the Sony HT-S100F sound bar. Will we have to live with a cable to it, or can it go with the other bluetooth port? Thanks.
I don’t see the app but the box will work, Bluetooth isn’t a usb it’s a wireless connection but don’t use that on the Soundbar connect via HDMI eARC on the TV and use your dignity on any other hdmi port. The Sony remote my control it via HDMI- CEC but i don’t have one to test I use TH-cam TV app
i cannot decide if i choose samsung cu8000 or this one pls help me decide
Would you choose a Samsung 55 inch CU7000b, or a Samsung 50 inch Q60A qled? Both are the same price right now!
QLED
Hi Steve, as for the PC output part, I’m wondering if it is your PC’s limitation of not being able to output 4K at 60hz? Because there’s no reason why a PC with HDMI 2.0 support can’t do it. Cheers
That’s possible maybe I will just use my MacBook Pro M1 in the future
@@TechSteve bro, have u use it? I wanna know whether pc can be used at 4k in 60 hz.
I haven’t tried it
Hey Steve. Thanks for the review. Question about ATSE 3.0 tuner (I think that’s what you said). I watch a lot of over the air and want 4K with it. Which Sony TV will give me that? I’m not a gamer, but I still want the best. Thanks!
The X77L doesn’t have a ATSC 3.0 Tuner. The very best picture quality is paid streaming apps like TH-cam TV, Hulu, etc… there hardly any 4k content OTA it’s just up and coming and years away. If it’s free it will never be as good as paid in my experience
I just purchased the Sony X77L 85-inch, since my 3-year-old Samsung Crystal Tizen had black light issues and was too costly to repair for its value. Thank you, Steve!
Funny how I came from the same boat, Samsung black spots are a repetitive problem according to many users. But I’m glad I switched to this Sony tv, it definitely dominates my 3 year old Samsung tv. (Which according to my online research they’re still using the same crappy panels on their modern models as well.).
I have a Hisense H9G, a TCL 6-Series and Sony X900F and all these TV's are outstanding in their own way. The Hisense is bright with a sharp crisp image and has that WOW factor. The TCL has better color balance and excellent overall image quality but neither can match the color accuracy and natural image quality of the Sony and no one does natural skin tones better than Sony. I"m considering an 85" budget Sony X77L or X80K for mainly sports (no gaming) and movies. Which would you choose and why?
Thanks!
Don't buy a 60Hz TV for sports, has to be 120Hz for better motion and panel response time, even if you don't use soap opera effect settings. Sony TVs if you need high build/reliability.
What's better, this or the Samsung CU7000?
or 85 inch Sony X77L and samsung Cu8000 , which one would you recommended for setting up home theatre ? the 85 inch CU8000 has 120hz native refresh rate, VRR support and 4 2.1 HDMI port . also freesynce premium .. But I feel like Sony colour is more realistic to the eyes. but I think I would also try to game on the 85inch TV, which must be a whole new experiences due to size.
please advise.
Sony X77L 65 inch or LG UR 9000 65 inch or Samsung CU 8000 65 inch.. Which one to buy?? We are looking for regular and long term usage.
SONY Tvs are kept an avg of 5.6 yrs. LG 1.7 and Samsung 2.3
Is this tv better than last years x80k
Thanks Steve for the video, I’m planning to buy 85inch (budget $1500). Sony has x77 or x80k model,
Any other brand suggestions with this budget?

How does this TV look in a brightly lit living room?Glare on TV?
Hi guys, I'm looking to buy either the X77L or X85K (43") for my kitchen where It gets a LOT of sun light (windows directly facing the TV) and I want to get a TV where I can SEE the picture. I know the X77L is a newer model than the X85K but which offers a brighter screen for viewability in bright rooms? I'm NEVER gonna use this as a gaming tv, but more for playing the odd Streaming show or local news (HD Antenna). any advice on screen brightness is appreciated.
Those TVs are around 350-500 nits. The Samsung qn95b is very bright and it has a anti glare coating. amzn.to/46VKXyc
Thanks techsteve. I wanted to try a Bravia this time as I have Samsung, Panasonic Sharp and LG (which I just replaced). So I bought the X85K. Yet to install tho. Busy life.
Any idea if this is likely to last longer than my last 2 Samsung led tvs? (5 years for both)

Thank you for your review. I can’t decide between the Sony, Samsung or the LG. Sony has the experience and years. Samsung has great support. LG is a late comer and has pulled out of making a lot of products.
SONY will be selling great TVs when Samsung and LG disappear.......

Picture looks good but so dark. Is there an option to make the TV briter?
Turn off the light sensor (Menu > scroll right to Light Sensor).
Can you tell the difference between 60 and 120 refresh rates?
Only on gaming for the most part, keep in mind that 120Hz TVs are higher end so the picture has better tech

Gotta accepted it for a budget sony 4K TV. amazing top name brand tho💯👍🏾
That's the problem. It's all about the brand name and Sony reputation. They don't provide much value on many of their lower end products.
It's expensive and it's not even good relative to the competition.

4K on a PC you mention it only goes to 24hz. Are you sure that limitation is the TV or is it the graphics card? I think it's the graphics card.
It could be
The reason I say this is I have 2 Windows PCs that I switch between using the same 4K TV (not this one you're reviewing), and the desktop with the much better graphics card does 60hz, the much worse graphics card on the Laptop does only 29hz.
I just bought this TV and figuring out how to mirror my Android phone to this? I don't seem to find an option
Only google chrome

I think they need to catch up to Samsung in the more budget friendly department. I tried the x80k last year and returned it the same day, I was pretty unimpressed. Colors were good straight on but everything else looked terrible, and the latency for gaming was only good in game mode but in game mode I couldn’t adjust most of the picture settings I wanted to
Samsung builds their own TV software so it would be hard for Sony to compete that way
Will X77L access Bravia core movies?
I didn’t try to download that app
this or a SAMSUNG Q70C?
I knew this TV was a budget TV. Is there budget TVs that has Dolby vision?
I didn’t see any
Hisense 75A6H has dolby vision.
The very next model up in the Sony line is the X80K. It offers both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and isn't that much more expensive.
Horrible 24p judder/motion on this model, only possible to hide it if you engage soap opera effect. Very poor SD deinterlacing (might not be a issue for most people but the 24p thing will be). Otherwise a good TV. Probably best to spend the little extra for the 120Hz X85K which is nearly the same TV in every other way. Good sound for a TV.
It has hdmi 2.1?
Nope
Is Dolby Vision necessary?
Only if you are hard core movie fan
