      I think there's more opportunities/places to crab in Oregon plus, it's alot easier to catch crabs with a clam style trap vs snares., which are you are limited to in CA.

      You need to get on the Buddy System like me and my best friend. He lives in Astoria, Oregon and I will retire and reside in Miami FL area from Halloween to May 1st. The rest of the year is Airstream time. I'll follow the snow birds up and down the West Coast and spend Mid Sept-Oct in his driveway. His neighbor has a boat and has already worked out a deal for me. In the winter months my buddy and his wife will fly to Miami to warm up.Best of both world for each of us. His assets are tied up in expensive housing while mine is in less expensive housing and drawing a monthly dividend check...Oregon is high but California is OUTRAGEOUS! Love PK's Videos!!!

    hey pk im headed to newport for thanksgiving for a few days wondering if you had any tips for me to just catch fish off the jetties docks or surf this time of the year? i fished the jetties in the summer before but never this time of the year. have you ever herd of any squid being caught inside around all the docks?

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jetties > docks when it comes to rock fish. Incoming tide is better, and night time is best. I use bass worms at night along the jetties and kill em. Never heard of squid fishing at all in Oregon. Good luck.

      Look for Mo's in Lincoln City and start about 1 1/2 hrs before high tide. It's best when high tide is early in the morning. If you go in the summer, it can get crowded so you have to go early to stake out your crabbing area.

    Are “soft shell” the same as normal dungeon ess crabs? Have they just recently lost their outer shell? Why can’t you keep them?

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A soft shell crab just shed it's old shell (molting process) and has less meat under it's new shell. The meat quality is also watery and flavorless, so it doesn't taste good. Essentially it's a waste to harvest soft shell crabs, so the regulation does make sense, even though it's confusing at first. Hope that helps 👍 🦀

      No, there was too much seagull droppings to risk it. We just add Louisiana crab boil and it was great.

    It sure doesn't look safe smacking that crab on a fixed blade like that. I find it much easier to put the crab on it's back, line it up with a meat cleaver, and give it a whack with a rubber mallet. It's a quicker kill and much safer.
