Hey TK !! I'm actually about 1hr away from the Oregon coast ( Tillamook / Nehalem bay ) and headed there this weekend. Crabbing will get better and better here before to long. End of Sept , Oct and Nov you can usually just kill it down there! Rough outside , but still get some full crabs. Tight lines!
I usually pack my bait box full of chicken to get a good scent trail. Incoming tide is best. About 10 minutes soak time for crab rings and 5 minutes for crab hawks. Good luck.
When I lived in So Cal we crabbed from Huntington Beach Pier. Now I'm inland central Calif and drive to the coast to crab. We use the crab snare but unlike Oregon, we are only allowed 6 snares or loops as PK calls them. No license required if you are fishing off a jutty or pier. The season opened yesterday. Limit is 10 Dung and 35 red rocks. The regs are in the stores so check them out.
PK- Great content as always! Question, I go out crabbing on Vancouver Island for Dunguness crabs. I have a cabin at Qualicum Beach, where it is located is near the mouth of the Little Qualicum river, does the fresh water attract the crabs, because we haven’t caught much crabs there in a while, just red rock crabs. Where do you typically find Dunguness crabs?
I think they prefer water with higher salinity. And now is a poor time for dungeness. It won't get good until September (at least for Oregon). I usually go to the bays, like Coos Bay, Waldport, and sometimes if the weather allows, to open ocean. Open ocean is by far the best place.
Dungeness definitely don't like fresh water as it's known here on the oregon coast, when it rains - crabbing goes south as the run-off all goes into the bays.
Aren't you supposed to have a deteriorating string across the lost pot escape openings in the crab pot? I saw a few leaving the pot with the GoPro video. I never liked the Red rock crab they have a slit biter after taste that I didn't care for. Anyway thanks for sharing the video really nice seeing NW crabbing.
Google "where to crab in oregon" odfw pretty much tells you where and how. Also Google "crabbing boat rentals oregon" and you can rent boats and traps and buy bait for cheap. The people renting you the boat will tell you right where to go. Its super easy and fun. Best time to crab is from a couple hours before high slack tide until an hour or so after. But you can catch crabs any time so don't let that keep you from going out its a blast
Nonresident licenses cost so much because they provide nearly half of odfws funding with about 5% of the harvest from our fisheries. Turd Ferguson here is a fucking idiot and nobody in Oregon likes him. Weve all agreed. Come to oregon and crab our bays and have a good time
@G. Lee Ferguson what got your panties in an uproar?? I'm from the keystone state, btw...so tourism caused the high costs of whatever your cryin about?? Are you one of the ones that voted for charging to use state parks???
Hey, love your videos. I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I do quite a bit of crabbing with casting traps. I have never used a rod to do it...what fishing line did you use? Thank you
I saw your other video, where you said how that’s your favorite pot to use, but I think if you had smaller mesh you’d do better, then the small crabs can’t come in and eat the bait and take up space, if it were my trap I’d wrap it in chicken wire.
Hi PK , I am hoping this is a good way to connect with you. Grew up in Seaside and do alot of crabbing myself. Watch your videos often. I was intrigued with your videos on raking and would love to chat with you about it I look forward to hearing from you Thanks Sherri
This was great. Fun to watch. Never heard of a red crab. Are they more along the southern coast of Oregon? I used to crab and fish along the Washington coast.
Thank s for sharing pk. Love your videos! We went crabbing a couple a weeks ago. Anchored up and dropped crab hawks over the side on 50lb mono. Then hand pulled them. Caught 16 crab total, it worked just fine and not nearly expensive as having 6 rods and reels for the two of us. Or six crab traps.
What traps do you recommend for crabbing im looking for new traps. (I go crabbing off a pier and was thinking of getting whatever they have at bi mart)
I like the Danielson traps over the crab ring, you can toss in a Danielson and go surf fish for an hour or so and then come back and check your trap. Can't do that with a crab ring, all your bait will be gone and no crabs :D They have both types at BiMart Here is some additional info on modifying Danielson traps:coastsidefishingclub.com/grey-beard-articles/crabbing-guide/
@@kisoia yeah I know im getting both rings and squares its just that my squares and rings are old and the netting is breaking so im looking for replacement. I also agree that Danielsons are good I have their squares and rings
@@lemon-iu7bo There are some modifications you can make to the Danielson traps to increase your success rate, things like putting some weight on the doors to keep them from opening with current and using tie wraps and bungee cords to keep the trap from opening up from a seal attack. It's too bad crabbing has been so poor this year!
In Calif the snares can only have 6 loops!!! I have been told {?} the crab hawk is not legal? You may keep the females!! the limit is 10 Dungy and 35 Red Rock. Check the regs before you go!!!!!!
Any chance a subscriber and fellow Niner Faithful from the Portland area get a chance to go crabbing with the legendary PK? Would love to have the opportunity and I'd be happy to split the cost for gas/bait and can bring rings/traps. Only done dock crabbing before would love the chance to go out on boat! Please let me know PK thanks! GO NINERS!!!!!
The dynamic duo, back in action together. Life is good. Like the new boat, good to see it getting broke in properly.
Thanks. It rides really nice and stable.
Like your new boat PK. The underwater video was awesome!
Nice pre season crabbing trip. And that boat looks AWESOME! See you Saturday.
Thanks. See you there!
The crab camera shots are so cool. Love that you do that. I learn a lot from them. Thank you.
This is a fascinating video. Thanks for putting it together.
Nice boat PK!!! Keep up the catch and cook videos you kill it every time!🤙🎣🚤
Another GREAT video. Fine looking boat and it looks like it does a good job for you. It's really good to see the first mate back on board!

Had no idea I could catch crabs with a fishing pole. Great video PK, as always. Lines tight my friend, take care.
I Love some Gulf Blue Crabs 🦀! I’ve only had Dungeness Crab twice ever (in Mississippi) i would LOVE a dozen of those to cook like my blue crabs!😋😋😋
Found you the other day! Fellow Cambodian! East Coast. Wonderful videos!
Nice video and good looking boat buddy!
Any tips, going to try pier crabbing in Washington next weekend with 3 little girls, and razor calms. Both are on my bucket list

Just went crab snaring today in Edmonds WA and met someone who said he was your brother? Anyway, thanks for the surfperch vids!👍
Like watching your old and new videos ....I was wondering if u know how many loop r Allowed on a snare??? Trying to make one myself
In Oregon, no limit on # of snare loops.
Thanks a lot
Throw the crab pot over first and then the buoy or your going to get that wrapped up in your prop. great vid btw I always enjoy them.

Hi. We are moving to Coos Bay in late March. We have an older Camper but it’s in decent shape just old. Do most RV parks allow older Campers?
turned notifications back on for the channel. crab season yeayuh

Hi, just found ur channel! Great videos! Curious where in ore are you crabbing that’s calm waters other than garibaldi/tillmook area?! TIA!

The reds seem to be all along the Oregon, CA, and WA coast.
Damn I wanna go crabbing. Looks fun af ..when's the season ? Start to finish?
starting to pick up now and runs through December.
Question...if I wanted to use two snares...do I need an additional license ???
Hey PK, how’s the new boat treating you?
What brand of trap is that blue one?
It looks a hell of a lot easier to crab from that boat 🤙
sok sa bai, when or if you are going back to live oregan ?, thanks for sharing always love watching ur vid
How’s the new boat?
Do you have big hands like Donald, or does Oregon require more than 6.5" shell? Some of those look big enough to me....
Love your vids keep it up
Thank s for sharing pk. Love your videos!

Why hold them over the water instead of getting them in the boat before they get loose?
good Job PK great video is that your new boat? Nice looking boat.
Your sea bed seems to crawl with all the wrong sized crabs lol

Easy does it. This was in Oregon (reading the video title helps too).
Wow nice po sir 😮😁
Should you close that hole on the trap? can only non-keepers make it out? Also, is this coos bay?

Buy crab slayer snares from ken
What's the snare called?? Or where did u get it(the one that u add more loops)...
Just a regular snare I got off Amazon: amzn.to/2Hizgr6
