Everything this guy described is what makes v-twins so special. What nearly all people don't understand about the Paingale cooling system is that it needs high revs to cool effectively. The coolant pump is an impeller design working at a ratio equivalent to the crankshaft speed. Low revs mean low coolant circulation. That's why the Panigale engine temps spike when you coast or hit traffic. It's actually a great design for a race bike. The harder you ride it the more effective the cooling system works but unfortunately it means slow road riding causes temps to spike quickly. Painagle can be made into great sports tourers by adding some water wetter, winding out the pre-load front and back and setting rebound and compression to softest. Buy the comfort seat and add some heat tape to the bottom. Good to go for 200-300 miles a day easy.
These L2s sound so much better in person. I once saw a 1299 superleggera go past and it was the best noise of any kind I’ve ever heard in my life. It was just going past at 30mph but oh my lord it was beautiful.
Great bike So many haters on here I love my 1299 It’s a motorcycle People whine about comfort or heat or hand warmers and all that If you want a comfort Then ride a goldwing or better yet sit on the couch at home and pretend to ride and make comments all day on you tube The 1299 is exactly what it was designed to do Go and go hard Its raw and beastly Most say I’ll stick with a GIXXR or bmw What do you think those bikes are ??? Race and or track bikes as well I applaud Ducati for making a bike that not everyone will like or afford Hell I remember Ferrari made the f40 It was praised for being a weapon yet it had no windows to roll down no air conditioning and hot as hell to sit in but hell it was a animal pure and raw The F40 like the Ducati 1299 is made for the few ; a ungodly mess but blended just rough and tight enough for the few that are not quite Rossi and not a cruiser rider either Just ride the thing I know I do
haha yeah the twin panigale's are not very fun unless you're riding fast on open roads. Normal everyday traffic is pretty brutal. I will say over time you do come to love them and all their quirks
They are raw and beastly I love the Ducati feel Most are too obsessed with all the creature comforts but want it in a sport bike package , I don't get it I want my sport bike to be unleashed and kick the shit out of me when I ride it If comfort is what people want then sell the bike and go buy a" ugh" and forgive me for saying this but people should buy a car,
V4S hands down, it seems like the kind of bike you could have a blast riding to the track, kill it out on the track all day and then still enjoy riding home. The final addition needs to be trailered to the track and back home
I chose the FE over the Speciale. Couple reasons , Ducati is L2 , I look at it like the end of the big blocks. No more monster torque. The machines are amazing. You dont buy a big block 69 hemi cuda because of its amenities or a 67 big block vette because it is refined. That L2 has attitude. That FE will also be a collector . They made 1299 of them as a commemorative a dedication to the winningest engine from any other motorcycle group. Ducati built their company based on that engine. No thst bike is not nice , it is not a drive around town machine . it is a back road, no traffic hit it or leave it alone machine. Track focused, yea sir. This bike will make you feel alive in so many ways. Want practicality, buy a BMW
I brought a panaigale 1299s for my first bike I love how raw it feels . Imo the bike rides the best and smoothest in race mode .. the faster you ride the better and smoother it feels .. he’s right the slower you ride the roughest it will feel .. takes getting used too I love mine
The 1299 is a beast and not for the average rider. It was built for one purpose, speed, not comfort or cruising...the V4 is much more forgiving IMO. I own a 2017 1299s and I prefer that one over the V4 because I love the raw power of this bike...every ride is a learning experience but keeps the smile on my face. If I want to cruise and be more comfortable, I switch over to my Monster.
Could you do a sound check to where you're actually either doing a drive by or put the microphone/recorder on the bike and do an on-board sound check there? Bikes usually sound way different when they're actually being ridden than just sitting stationary in neutral.
The point of the sound check is to hear the bike sitting and reving. My helmet setup captures the running noise really well. I'll look into an on board option though.
So is this your first time on a 1299 of any kind? You can change the amount of engine braking, and tone down how much it intervenes. So the 1299 and 1199 hate 3000 rpm, therefore city streets suck, you have to be around 3rd or 4th most of the time. In the race mode you can adjust the layout, change the lap timer to lean angle and put the speedo in a better place. I do think the older pani's are much more difficult to just hop on and feel confident on. Owning all 3 generations of these is great to feel how they've progressed.
I agreed with you up until he took it out onto the highway were he floored it. The bike is a track bike and us not meant to be in such so low revs haha.
as an 1199 owner I can say that there isn't a single video on youtube that captures what they actually sound like. Just like old timey radio mics made presenters sound weird, there is some frequency that isn't coming across.
It’s a R spec Ducati...aka a street legal race bike. It is built for track days. It’s the last V2 homologated bike made by to Ducati to be a force on the track. Look up or google homologated if you don’t know what it means. You buy this bike for what it was designed to be and to own a piece of history, not to go cruising around town on.
That plus and minus is so you can change settings on the fly while on the track . Three settings can be changed, you need to set it to one. One of them is wheelie control , second is traction control , the third is abs
Big Bang High Compression Engine + Lightweight Tungsten Engine Internals + Titanium Exhaust = Exactly what Chase said. Fast, Abrupt, Hot as Hell. Awesome Bike!!!!
Love my 1299 S. The heat is not that bad around town, just have to open your legs a couple of times to let the air cool you down. The 1299 is the best and last of it's kind. I find the 1299 much much sexier then the V4s. Park the "S" model 1299 and V4 next to each other and the 1299 is soooo much more sexier in my opinion. To each his own. Wouldn't mind having both bikes.
You need to be progressing the throttle when you upshift using the quickshifter on a Ducati (if it's an otherwise similar bump you feel to an 899 - unless of course they improved it), but that might explain why you think the downshifter was better. Also, I rode mine to work for months almost every day. It's not too happy at low revs I'll admit, but brought a smile to my face every day. I probably wouldn't take a bike like the one in the video to work though. Far too beautiful.
I love all bikes in my opinion. They are all great and made for different situations such as street or track. I have owned a Kawasaki and Suzuki and they are the only brands I will ever buy. Don’t get me wrong, a bike such as a r6/1 is a great bike but it doesn’t fit me because of my height etc.
I am not so sure about the side-mount rear shock. I have heard others say it rubs the leg, which can be uncomfortable after an hour or so. I do love the way the shock looks though :)
Maybe if you don‘t rev the bike as high in 2 gear i you cruise on the streets the temperature would be lower?🤷🏻♂️ Nice video great bike, sounds better if you hear it live ! Thank you for the video ✌🏼
I like that the Italians make bikes that aren’t easy to ride. Things are getting Too these days. All I’m hearing is it will take effort to ride this bike smoothly 🤷🏽♂️
Hey Chase my 20th b-day is coming up and what I would like for my birthday this year is for u and your friend Yummi to do more "Chase and Yummi motorcycle adventures" episodes like you guys did about a year ago. Plz do it I miss those episodes
Chase, great video but please do not voice over anymore ad spots while doing video shots of the showcase bike in the beginning of the vids. The instrumental with bike and showing specs were amazing - ! Up until you started talking about the sponsor while the camera was panning around the bike in the parking lot. I don't mind sponsored ads, but maybe do it at the end next time? It was just a bit distracting. Thanks!
Chase ur videos are great. Sorry about getting into it with that guy who started war on ur channel. Some folks need to think before they start talking BS. Keep up the videos.
Always use wet mode on the street? when its dry and 70 degrees......that's stupid. I have a 2017 1299S and never use wet mode. I use race mode on the twisty roads and sport mode elsewhere, and don't go out in the rain. Plus you can set the engine braking, wheelie control, and most other settings the way you want.....then save them.
Hey chase absolutely love this bike, keep up the great work. Also it would be awesome if you could do a first ride on an Aprilia rsv4, or if you could get your hands on a Honda rc51
So, I’m gonna vote V4S, because I own one......but be aware it is also a little heatwave in itself! However as long as your inner thighs are made from heat resistant material one can ride this bike around town easily.

Yes so true Thomas" that is way I Love my 1299 FE. :)
@Peter Pan i keep the stick exhaust on bc several tracks require db levels to be kept. I also have a R which wont pass the requirements

Damn... the production quality of these 2019 first rides has been on POINT!!!
If possible, can you do a first ride on an Aprilia rsv4?!

I don’t like the sound at all in my opinion
I agreed with you up until he took it out onto the highway were he floored it. The bike is a track bike and us not meant to be in such so low revs haha.
Yeah, it sounds like shit in the lower revs, sounds plasticky, but on high rpms its fucking godly
as an 1199 owner I can say that there isn't a single video on youtube that captures what they actually sound like. Just like old timey radio mics made presenters sound weird, there is some frequency that isn't coming across.
Twins always sound bad on video, but when you hear one irl, they blow your mind!
It's the ducati thing. Sounds like shit on video but in person it's absolutely insane. Except the V4 cause it's the opposite lol

The induction noise when you opened the throttle is mental. What a bike.
Best V2 EVER....i love this bike,this sound...😍😍
Always FORZA DUCATI 💪💪💪✊✊✊
The SV650 has the best v twin if you ask me. It may not sound the best, but it's the best overall engine
My sweet baby Jebidiah that's a beautiful bike. The images you get for those kinda cinematic bits are also stunning.
Big Bang High Compression Engine + Lightweight Tungsten Engine Internals + Titanium Exhaust = Exactly what Chase said. Fast, Abrupt, Hot as Hell. Awesome Bike!!!!
It is a race bike guys. The R stands for Racing. They didn't create this bike for comfort on urban roads it is made for track use.
Love my 1299 S. The heat is not that bad around town, just have to open your legs a couple of times to let the air cool you down. The 1299 is the best and last of it's kind. V4R actually. Because it's a similar price, has the same wow factor that the FE R has. Yet is better in every way. It's also a WSBK race homologation.
The quickshifter for upshifts you have to be higher in the revs for it to be smooth, try full throttle next time it will be smooth as the autoblipper.
I am not so sure about the side-mount rear shock. I have heard others say it rubs the leg, which can be uncomfortable after an hour or so. I do love the way the shock looks though :)
Well, I'm 185cm and I got 7k km on my Pani. I never even touched that rear shock.

For 40k get a V4s for track day warrior and save 14k for the tuono 1100 RR for weekend canyon

Would be really cool if you could try the new MV agusta f3 800!!
As someone who owns a 1299, I can relate to the heat feeling like satans horse. Wait until you get stuck in heavy traffic in 95 degree weather.
Agree with you on the R6 on being purpose built I wouldn't have kept it as long as I did If I had not been able to do track days on it.
The seat really do look painful to sit on. Can you like change the seat later on to like a comfier one?
Hey Chase have you ever considered doing a first ride on an Aprilia Tuono?? One of my favourite bikes out there I'd love to see what you think of it!!
2013 BMW S1000RR onwards gives you the lean angle Chase.
