Ok guys, I will make you a deal... I know where there's a better Scirocco for 500... AND, I have a 2002 t-boned Jetta TDI, AND a 6 speed manual swap kit from Frans (Netherlands)... I want 2000 for my Jetta (runs/starts perfectly, 1200 miles on a new timing set/head gasket). Email me at (its_karl79 AT hotmail) I will not take a penny less than 2000, I spent 1500 on the swap kit, and 1200 on the work done to my Jetta before my nephew was T-boned driving to work. This is a steal, and it's an easy complete swap. I'm deleting the comment in 24 hours.
I have a mk4 golf 2l which I've owned for years now and its getting up there in age. i want to do an engine swap with a mk5 gti as a project, so would that be feasible?
@@StanleyKubick1 Oh my gosh same! Me and my buddy were having so much trouble. At around 12 hours we finished and when we test drove the car we were happy but very annoyed and tired! Ahh the joys of being a mechanic. Lol 😂
Thanks guys! When professionals experience these frustrations it give us, normal, working at home, in the garage, amateurs, solace, seeing that these things can happen to anyone. Loved the video.
Many moons ago I owned a Volkswagen. It was the BIGGEST financial mistake EVER for my automotive ownership. Watching you guys battling this Volkswagen and ALL hardships brings a sense of joy to me that it’s NOT me dealing with ALL that. You guys are quite entertaining.
I’ve owned 7 VWs in my lifetime and ALL but 1 were reliable and required only routine maintenance. 1 gave me lots of trouble, but in fairness I didn’t maintain it like I should and I was putting lots of commuter miles on it. I guess what I’m trying to say is there are some known lemons in the VW lineup and it could be that you got one. Also… lots of people buy a VW and think they can treat it like a Toyota (which admittedly you can abuse to an insane level and never maintain… but are like driving a toy) and then sell it when they get slapped with the bill for fixing the thing they abused. This sucks when they aren’t up front with the buyer (often the case) and you could have been unlucky in this regard too. I’ve bought a few used VWs recently and the used market is flooded with these red flag cars. VWs (especially older ones) are particularly fun for those of us who can turn a wrench, like to mod and personalize stuff, and want a machine that feels like a machine. Some people like legos, some people like assembled toys. Both are cool.
@@dannyo3317 💯🤙🏽 Oh and for the sake of putting it into the internetz for helping others. The one that seemed to break or randomly shut off all the time was a mk3 Jetta 2.0 NA. Such a cool car (fast and the furious) but those mk3 s just had so many electrical problems, sensor failures, and the classic VW fabric nightmare. I’m on to Mk4s now because they hold a special place in my heart for a special time in my life. They aren’t without their own woes for sure, but as long as you stay on top of routine stuff (oil changes, filters, timing belt/water pump), swap out the admittedly poorly engineered plastic coolant flanges and plastic crankcase/pcv system to metal - the 1.8T, VR6 and even 2.0NA are very reliable. On the GTI I’ve swapped all that stuff on and replaced most the old hoses, I seldom have an issue unless it’s consumable or service related. I have driven about 60-80mi per day for work on my main mk4 for the last almost 3 years and she keeps truckin.
I'm in Scotland, I owned that model of scirocco, same colour, (but we don't have those enormous stupid bumpers in the UK), and I ran a UK Scirocco owners club in the 80's. These 3 videos were awesome! I recognised that rusty fuel filler pipe too. Really great videos, thanks!
"Would you do something like that again?" Me, on the edge of my seat: "Say yes! Say YES!" This is genuinely one of the best TH-cam swaps I've seen. Definitely looking forward to more shenanigans like this. Thanks for the great work!
dude yes love the "no matter how experienced you are, there is still a part of you that thinks you did something wrong" when you finish a fresh rebuild. even after 100+ outboard rebuilds, that first 10 mile run out on open water gives me the shakes a little. doesnt help you know every single bolt and screws exact function haha
The whole series has been riveting (no pun intended). Great work gents. The car sounds like a beast and looks great. I can’t wait to see the long term outcome.
OMG! I had this exact car in my youth. Everything went wrong with that thing and watching these videos almost brought a tear to my eye. The fuel pump, engine mounts steering wheel vibration were all problems I had to deal with. After getting into a head-on collision with that thing I honestly felt a sense of relief.
This Scirocco brings back the memories. This was the very first brand new car my mom owned. She bought it brand new in 1987 when her and my dad both had job promotions. My did bought a truck and my mom bought a VW. She drove this car well into the 90’s. She took immaculate care of it. It was the car I learned to drive a manual transmission in and it was the car I took my drivers test in.
Thanks for showing up to my local LKQ and being like everyone else. Ripping shit apart, throwing bolts, breaking harnesses. No one may have needed those parts. Glad you had an easy time at it.
Man ! My Two favorite channels together is always súper fun thank you guys greetings from Mexico I own an A3 8P 2.0 t fsi which Im working on and you guys are like my automotive gurus
I told my daughter to go take a picture of the red scirocco next to the Euro tuning tent and she comes back with a a picture of the redR32 lol. It's awesome that they got a chance to see a car that we've watched videos on. Is good seeing you guys at Wookie in the woods looking forward to more videos
Lol! That starter looked like the starter for the original 4 cylinder in that car...and I'll be willing to bet it was the lack of a solid ground all along. Jumper cables aren't a good enough connection for the kind of current that goes through a starter.
My first thought when they on the trip home started talking about why haven’t they played the cassette yet was “it would be funny as hell if the song on the mystery cassette was ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey!”
Such a cool video! Man it's refreshing for us diy garage guys to see some pros actually battling it out with the types of ridiculous problems we come across instead of the usual ultra-polished 5 minute engine swaps you usually see
Things rarely if ever go to plan with old car projects like your OAP VW...great idea in theory for YT post ..timescales add pressure, parts availability becomes super limited, plus any other unforeseen problems leading to loss of focus, morale and frustration at times. I Respect....your determination to try and meet your agreed deadline it was admirable guys🛠🚗
Having a BUB mark 5 golf just outside I can feel how it hurts hearing the missfires. This engine is running so smooth firing on all 6. Nice series looking forward to more content like this. Cheers from Germany!

I’ve loved this so far. I’ve got an ‘89 (last year in Canada) that has had no where near the problems of yours. The most important thing I’ve learned is not to get carried away and drop a 20v in my car. Also, I’m not driving it 1100 miles or 1770km (that’s how we role in Canada)!. Thank you for the great entertainment and some learning along the way. Oh, mine had new fuel lines installed just before I picked it up because they had exploded everywhere just days before I went to get it! The angels are with all Scirocco drivers apparently.
Welcome to the world of scirocco's gentlemen! It doesn't matter what you swap in new or old if its a scirocco your working on something WILL go wrong. This is the car that taught me about cars. It will never fail to fail but I still love mine. But ONLY MINE lol.
