I've love to be working with you guys on this project.. I know I am nowhere near your level, with all due respect. But If I was a millionaire and didnt have to work.. I'd come to your doorstep every week and try to butt in to all your projects.. and maybe do Starbuck runs for you guys..
you can try disabling modules on the installation list on the gateway and coding the other modules to "forget", like when you retrofit something but in reverse
This turned out to be one of the most technically informative instructional videos ; great baseline information for anyone looking to to anything like this
Now that you have figured out how to bypass the body modules it might be worth looking into producing some kind of wiring kit for an EA888 swap kit. There are a lot EA888s out there and a lot of old older VWs begging for engine upgrades.
Fueltech is developing a way to control the DSG, there is a youtuber called Diego Faustino that is building a turbo 4x4 vr6 with a DSG on it! Sound as crazy as swapping a mk7 into a jetta.. LOL brazilians are crazy
If you guys tend to make a simplified wire diagram of what is needed to start and run a mk7 engine like you did in this video, that would be HUGE GAME CHANGER
The Jesse fit and the wiper accident had me in tears 😂! Loved this video and the way you guys approached this swap was incredibly smart. Can’t wait for part 2!
Right now we are putting Skoda Octavia 2.0 petrol engine and interior into Golf mk2. Engine,AC and everything under the hood is already connected. Dashboard is cutted to fit inside, all electric installations are inside from front to rear. In 2-3 days 1st start up is expected and work on interior begins
Great approach to this project. I like that anyone (myself included) can watch these and have more confidence approaching projects they wouldn’t have considered before. Can’t wait for the second episode👍🏼 Thanks guys!
Paul's emotional and mental journey during these engine swaps always makes for unmissable viewing. I don't know why keeps doing it to himself, but I'm glad he does.
How did you manage to find a jetta with EVERY mk3 common problem? On the plus side, a complete engine swap is one way to fix em all at once lol. I'm so excited for this build, absolutely LOVE your guy's build videos!!!
LETSSS GOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im soo hyped for this series lol Paul and Charles crack me up and remind me of how it used to be working on cars with my dad lol
It's been 16 years since I sold my MKIII Jetta GL. Still miss it dearly and think about a project like every now and then. Really excited to see where this goes
What a nightmare, the pump issue you could have checked with an obd2 reader fuel pressures and spot the problem right away, this is definitely not an easy swap and that's just the wiring, there is much more to do, I wish you guys good luck on this project! Hopefully in the future there will be aftermarket ecus that use just the essential to make it run to do swaps more easily...
Oh, I hate the wiring job SO much... doing an engine swap in my Lexus LS nearly broke my mind, but I used the same method lol. Nice to know you don't actually need that much for that swap as I love the latest E888. I'd love one in a MKI Scirocco.
3:50 lol, on my jetta i broke windshield in exact same way. I was looking on something on the front panel from the top and just hit that rear view mirror with my head :D
Man I’m excited for this series. This old Jetta makes me miss my manual 1999.5 white Jetta. I repaired most of the suspension and serviced everything on the drivetrain. Only reason I sold it was due to my wife not being able to drive a 5-speed. Positive spin on it was an upgrade to a MKV GTI w/ a DSG and a intake/tune. We at least until the camshaft went bad and caused the engine to rip itself apart 😒
Im helping my friend with a 99Miata swap cyclone v6 3.7 from 2011 mustang. The wiring is by far the biggest pain. Seeing all your wiring gave me nightmares. You guys get the job done with alot less cussing then me. So excited about this series
I have owned a mk3 2.0 cli Jetta. I call her "Old Reliable" due it having 600000km(372,822miles) on it. I wanted to do the same but only using a Mk5 gti/tsi but never taught it will work , you guys giving me hope for build it xD. If this is gonna work good i am gonna jump head first into it... electrical work scares me. Keep it up Gents , gonna use this as a type of guide!
You had me from the VR swapped Rocco. That was an awesome series! Ohh man look at that turbo VR Raddo with the Schimmel intake 😳 Nice!!! Can't wait to watch this one! Paul & Charles FTMFW! 👍😎
Waiiiit so essentially you made the harness standalone so it just sees switched 12V and a crank signal and it triggers on with no modules at all that’s crazy I’d think the ecu needs an immobilizer Signal via CAN or something but I was wrong I’m so hyped to see how this series goes!
@@granveien38 Sorta, that’s with the assumption that it revives a data signal from the key attenta. With that it looks like the handshake between the key attenta is done through the body control module unit which than opens the circuit in the ecu to come on and run!
Awesome project and very interesting, how you cut down on all the potential "electric gremlin modules". Just an idea: Make it a side business to sell a "reduced" wiring harness (or at least wiring plan) for other peeps that wanna do such an engine swap with the Mk7 engine. :)
I was planning on doing this to a 8P with the mk7 R motor. After some research I couldn't think of a way to make the mk7 protocols work with the pq35 protocols. Ended up swapping the EA888 to the EA113 CDL and just had to repin the ECU and run new grounds everywhere. Much easier 🤣🤣🤣
Most other style videos like this just go off topic and do everything else other than doing what the video intends, but you guys are reminding me of the early Roadkill days. Keep it up!
Didnt know why i had deja vu... Then i rememberd that video from 10 months ago showing this same car when they bought it. Apart from the reused clips, amazing job on the overall progress on the swap, cant wait for the next parts
"Then we'll tape it all up and make it look sexified" - Charles Yes! Thats the word I woulda thought of! 😂 Love watching you two on these collaborations. You guys go together like lamb and tunafish.
Off to a great start! Excited to see how the engine gets mounted in the bay and what the heck you're going to do with the interior. Keep up the good work!
hearing about you guys as extremely skilled mechanics spending all that time with the wiring only for the solution to be so simple makes me feel better about my ultra amateur self and my 14 hour only got one side cv axle hub and bearing job, partially due to a forgotten old snap ring.
I was hoping to see a hint of possibility about fitting the MK7 cluster in the MK3 with a 3D printed cluster bezel, but looks like that won't happen... Sick project nonetheless, can't wait to see the result!
You guys are f******** great together. It's a joy to watch your vids and have always wanted to know how a Roadkill Garage engine swap would be done with a modern day engine. Awesome.
Lol, come to South Africa, I know guy that have been doing this since the MK5 GTI/R32 era, some guys even recently did a Tiguan RS(Tiguan with an RS3 plant)
I randomly found this video on YT and maaaaan was I upset that it finished so fast! I hardly wait the next episode! Till then I'll check your other videos. One more subscriber, folks! Keep it up!
@HumbleMechanic working on cleaning up a mk1 CE2 harness swap. I dont recommended those red 18g marine connectors on sensors wires. They tend to not make a great connection but look like they are because of the glue. The JST/double crimp ones are awesome for these swaps. I know its a tad late, but something to think about.
Thank you! That style is a factory VW authorized repair. It should in anyway make issue for the sensors. So much so VW issued those connectors for an airbag recall on MK5! I'll check out the ones you mention for sure. Im alwasy down for new goodies. HAHA
@@HumbleMechanic for sure. They are way stronger, and such a better connection. Run some marine heat shrink tube over it. Won't ever have to mess with it again. Here's the best part. Its cheaper to do it this way. :D I just found those barrel connectors to not make the best connection, and they adds extra of resistant to sensors. when the wire is small, not alot to bite onto. 16g and bigger, dont tend to be such a problem.
Guys this is awesome. This is a conversion I've wanted to do in a long while. Was always curious on whether a full loom swap was required or could modules be removed. A detailed list of what is required would be awesome. Keep up the cool video content 👍🏽😁

Is there any space for a good VW Audi mech from UG?
I am very good in Electronics and using diagnostics, I am also willing to relocate.

has only one done wiring for v6 tdi, my gen1 pajero could do with a different engine and alh to bew tdi's didnt come to aus
@@Deutscheautoparts Hi I'm attempting a very similar swop would you please be so kind as to share the wires required to bypass.
insane, im not even a VW fan but still watched this entire vid. It has me very intrigued at your troubleshooting and work-arounds. much love

They should really make that.
Oh yeah another Paul and Charles collab, also you guys are insane the mess of wires you had looked so intimidating, cant wait to see this done

Nice video guys. FYI the DSG also has an immobiliser and will let the car start but won't go into gear if active
