since i found this video i watch it every day. i feel like a teenager. i've always loved johnny nash and i was fortunate to see him live twice. i wonder if he knows how many people still appreciate his music.....
When I attended the first grade at Blackshear Elementary School in Third Ward in Houston Texas during the 50's, the first name of a famous singer, who previously attended the school prior to my induction into public school life, was Johnny Nash, a graduate of this fantastic school. As I entered the 4th grade, one of my favorite cartoons was about Hercules, and the song accompanying the all mighty hero, was sung by Johnny Nash. Later in life, I had the opportunity to attend a concert at University of Houston at age 17, where I met, and talked to Mr. Nash. When I was in the air force, the only song on the jukebox by a black artist was Johnny Nash, singing this song, my personal favorite song by him. Later in my career as a Captain in law enforcement, Johnny and his wife were friends of the Constable, so I became friends with them, especially mentioning to Johnny I had previously met him at University of Houston. Of course we became friends, and they also became my students. I was also a concealed handgun instructor. As you're aware, Mr. Nash has since joined the angelic choir in heaven. Johnny had the purist vocal presentation, and a heavenly gifted voice. 🙌
One of my favorite singers since the late 50's. Good looking, always dressed snappy and bot could he sing. He still can sing great. He should be in the class of Lenny Welch and Johnny Mathis. Can sing anything.
I heard the other versions, but this is for me number 1. Every time that I listen to this, I'm almost sorry that I wasn't born when mister Nash came to this world, so that he personaly could have sang this beautiful song for me. Yeah, I know...I'm dreaming, but that's what this song is doing to me.... ;-)
By far the best version of this song, it's a sin that his wasn't a huge hit, especially since he released it 3 years before the Casinos version. Johnny's has so much passion and his phrasing is impeccable.
He was my world. my everything. i wish i could tell him how much i miss him.. instead, i’m here telling the world how much i miss him. All because i had to get over him gracefully. it’s not fair. nothing’s fair in love.
My mother was a single mom in the mid-60s, all we had at that time in Alabama was each other. Although she was a "master" teacher and had her own dance school at time, she never ever failed to sing, read and talk me to sleep with this song and other meaningfully, thought-provoking song, poetry and ideas like one. I will never forget how much it meant to me then and now... and how much it meant to her to share with.
What a damn shame he had no REAL career. He was discovered by Arthur Godfrey and put on the fast track. The tragedy was that he debuted at the same time Johnny Mathis and Sam Cooke did in 1957!!! So he didn't stand a chance. Had he debuted later or perhaps earlier he wouldn't have gotten lost between those two giants. A truly great singer!
ouchhhhhhhhh ....never heard this....love Bettye Swans version....but once again I get blown away my another soul find in the gardens of soul heaven......keep the faith from the banks of the mersey
I found this through the chain....Joss Stone....Betty Swan...Johnny Nash. And here I am again saying to my self that back in those days people just had better voices and the songs were better as well. But no knocken Josh Stone because she is a hammer.
Pride of Houston, Texas, a graduate of Jack Yates HS as many other greats such as Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad ,Roland Martin, Dexter Manley, Santana Dotson, just to name a few. The Mighty Lions Pride Live On.
This version is way better than the casinos, but you all need to hear two great Jamaican crooners the great ,great Slim Smith and the great ,great pat Kelly's versions
The best version ever!! No one comes closer!!❤💛💙💘
Singing like that who the hell won't to leave a million years that's a long time
"Sweeten my coffee with a morning kiss"...the expression on his face at 0:53 took my breath away!
Yes such a beautifull man so Hanson his face when he sings just melts your heart
since i found this video i watch it every day. i feel like a teenager. i've always loved johnny nash and i was fortunate to see him live twice. i wonder if he knows how many people still appreciate his music.....

Why didn't he become famous, famous? A beautiful voice!
it was difficult to compete with Sam Cooke singing a ballad....Johnny Nash could....one of the purest voices I've ever heard...

His early lps were very similar to the other great Johnny: Mathis.

Maureen m
He came out in 1957. The trouble was so did Johnny Mathis and Sam Cooke! Nash got lost in the shuffle and he was just as good!
He did a great job with the Hercules cartoon theme from the 60's.
What a damn shame he had no REAL career. He was discovered by Arthur Godfrey and put on the fast track. The tragedy was that he debuted at the same time Johnny Mathis and Sam Cooke did in 1957!!! Pure talent. Voices like this are gifted not trained. Never heard this before, but love it.

Most under recognized vocalist of the pop era. There simply is not a cleaner, clearer and versatile tenor out there. Superb.
Pride of Houston, Texas, a graduate of Jack Yates HS as many other greats such as Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad ,Roland Martin, Dexter Manley, Santana Dotson, just to name a few. The Mighty Lions Pride Live On.
