It is well known that there is a lot of grinding in Classic WoW, however there are some items in the game that are extremely hard to get. In this video I go over some of the hardest grinds in the game!

Ah, the Winterspring Frostsaber. I did that grind. Love the mount. In fact it's still my primary mount.

I was one of those few people who grinded Timbermaw hold rep so I could get the +15 Agility enchant.. took me forever.. I saw furbies in my dreams for weeks.. the horror
3:30 It was not a license to print money.. it was horrible.. Many people wouldn't tip enchanters even though the materials cost tons of gold. You'd be lucky to get a 5g tip most times.
I also grinded timber rep for the enchant. For my 19 rogues and hunter. Also to enchant the rest of our twink guild. Not sure if I needed it for my hunter then or not but had them it for my rogues for sure. Trinket was good until you had the arena and fishing trinkets.
And the +15 agi is only at honored or revered state, imagine !
While Classic was a grind, achieving your goals was more meaningful. In retail, every single item is indistinguishable from every other, even at the highest tiers. Item and level scaling was a mistake. In Classic, there were items you'd pursue for weeks, months even. This made everything you worked for worthwhile.
everyone seems to think the game was amazing "back the way they remember it" but in large the community was NEVER happy with the game at any point. As far back as the first patches the forums would be flooded with "im quitting, dead game, blizz dont care etc etc". The games too grindy, the games not grindy enough, bosses are too easy, bosses are too hard, PVP isnt balanced, PVP isnt fun because every class is the same. The wow community is the single most nostalgia drunk community of any game ever.
@Dennis Coffman so i guess thats why classic spiked and then nose dived for vanilla, TBC and WotLK. Because players that have romanticized the game for over a decade realise the game wasnt the main reason of their fond memories, it was the age at which they were playing. I'm not "just basing it on forums" either you presumptuous moron. Clearly you never played during that time otherwise youd remember the constant whining whether in be in raids, PVP, trade, general, groups... people are always seeking more and seldom sitting their beaming with delight as they play the game. Ironically, given your dumbass short story length rant, have always found something to enjoy about the game. Whether it was 2004 or Dragonflight there has always been pros and cons but so many old heads act like the game was ONLY good during the early years and im saying it wasnt the case (which now people have started to discover themselves by the hundreds of thousands)
Spot on @denniscoffman2919. The forums are a microscope of misery. The best thing the devs can do is limit their time on them. As for Vanilla, I think I'd know if I were suffering from nostalgia. I only play Classic now. Totally stopped playing Dragonflight after ripping to max level in a week. The real "grind" is dailies, mythic+ and the transmog/mount farms. Leveling in Vanilla never felt like a grind because the zones were rich, their stories charming, and the community as a whole was a lot of fun. I really missed early and mid-game dungeoning and elite open world group content, none of which exists in retail except as something to burn through to hit level cap. I'm glad Classic exists to accommodate this but knowing there will likely never be new content like it is a disappointment. The game, for 10M+ players, used to *be* the journey to max level and for some, the world PvP along the way-not instanced content like battlegrounds and raiding. If it's any consolation, the next game is not supposed to be an expansion but rather "the first chapter in the second phase of Warcraft's future," according to Ion, whatever that means. I'd love to see Azeroth reforged in a new graphics engine with a Classic style leveling experience. Otherwise, they should make each expansion take longer to level through and only release a new one every 3-4 years.

They ruined their own game, its not the only mmo split in half though (classic / retail) it seems to be the long term destiny of mmos. What they should do is stop updating the game once it starts performing well.. or release a voting system on updates *like other mmos* *cough*
I did both fullborg and frostsaber mount grinds. There was a huge feeling of satisfaction once they where done.
Did those and the booty bay buccs, trinket always freaked out random BC noobs
i did that grind multiple times on vanilla and bc jsut because i like to try complete everything.
I was halfway there when Cataclysm was announced. I decided to go for Vanilla Loremaster before launch. I completed the last quest the night before launch.
With Cataclysm Frostsaber rep was nerfed, so I got that shortly after. I never completed Timberhold.

Did both of those during WotLK. The Frostsaber is my favorite ground mount and I use it on all of my toons.
Young me was crazy... Was cruising around on my Wintersaber mount with my Bloodsail Admiral title and hat. Absolute lunatic.

Rank 14: "what for?"

my Level 60 Druid was able to kill the Elite Giants ... but at the time i never knew about the kill quest
I had a depression back then and grinded rank 14 on my undead rogue.. Grinded 1 million honor a week for 5 months..
I got exalted with Timbermaw back in Vanilla because I had nothing better to do before BC launched. Totally worth it for the trinket.
I did it for the Diplomat title.
I still have my Winterspring Frostsaber to this day!

Aged Gorilla Sinew: it _might_ drop on the first Mistvale gorilla, but probably will drop after the 40th, 60th, 100th gorilla. Or you might have to do a full gorilla holocaust several times before it drops. And if someone else in either your side or the other is also hunting them, well there goes a couple of hours minimal to get it. Great for skinners, though, and green loot.
While doing this on my old Blood Elf hunter (now Undead) on the Mugthol PvP server, I had a Dranei shaman approach. Uh-oh, I thought, really we're going to duke it out now? Instead, he started to kill my target, but left me with the final kill. For over an hour we traded kills and helped each other. I finally got the drop, but continued helping him til he got his. Just because you're on a a PvP server doesn't always mean you have to be an asshole all the time.

yah i did strat at least 300 times. no mount.
I saw it drop on one of my first runs ever.. never saw it againn
I ran Strat at least once a day for who knows how long to get that. Although that was soloing post 60 so admittedly less arduous
I remember doing those Winterspring quests for the Saber. I had a Dwarf Paladin Main that was a mish-mash spec of Tank and Retribution, so shit damage to begin with which made everything take longer.
Winterspring was one of my favorite zones, I was into RP-ing and loved Dun Morogh for the Dwarves, and there were very few snow places in Vanilla (I think the only other place was in the Alterac Mountains and the BG). I thought there'd be no better way to grind for something than by spending time in a Snow zone.
Well, by the end, I HATED the zone so much from all the "kill the Chimaera" / "kill the Furbolgs" Quests. With my spec, it was impossible to kill the Giants so at one point I just gave up and did the Quests that were close to Frostsaber Rock.
What's stupid of me is that I only did it because I was Exalted with Ironforge, Gnomeregan and Stormwind, but not Darnassus, and I thought the Saber mounts were the coolest. I think it would've been easier to just do all of the Night Elf zones to get Rep for one of their Mounts instead.
Worse still, after flying came around in BC, I just used my Gryphon wherever I could fly and my generic Brown Ram everywhere else so the Frostsaber is somewhere in the list of Mounts and never gets used anyway... It turned out that the Mounts were pretty much designed for certain races only (I remember that only Gnomes and Dwarves could even use Mechanostriders at that time), so when I finally got the damned thing it looked huge compared to my Dwarf. I rode it a while just to feel like I hadn't wasted what seemed like half my lifetime to get it, but went back to my Ram after all :(

In the Re-release of Classic their were organized groups that did premades, had a discord all that good stuff. I got to Rank 12 (11 was my goal, but I pushed for one more to get some gear) But there were a lot of people who made R14 this time around.
Got exalted either in Vanilla or TBC. I never did the math, though - I don't think I ever realized how many of those Furbolgs I killed.

I remember farming the Timbermaw rep! Spent days grinding and using a calculator to know exactly how many more I'd need to kill or how many beads/Feathers i needed..

I did Timbermaw Hold back in TBC back when it was still a grind. Diplomat title, Ambassador, Guardian of Cenarius. 3 of the hardest titles back then...
I'm mained a druid so never had a reason to do timbermaw until BC for the title :)
I had those...still think the insane title was the worst grind though. (got it pre-nerf)
Got the Winterspring Frostsaber mount. Took FOREVER. Was so glad I didnt have to do it again when WoW changed mount sharing for accounts. Now doing Classic and am seriously considering doing the grind. I must be insane.
i remember when i had to farm SGC. took me around 250ish run, i will never forget it
I am exalted with Timbermaw on my shaman (actual classic vanilla times). The trinket is not that good but the speech Thraal makes its really amazing, the whole Orgrimmar have me a /salute when I have achieved this one.

One of the things I enjoyed in WoW was collecting the different mounts; I was so happy when I finally got my Wintersaber.
I hear you, my Wintersaber mount was probably the most memorable grind I went through.

me and my guild ran into a lvl 14 grand marshall in Ironforge back in the day. We all crowded around him and /kneel 'd. I remember how insane it would have to be to get that

Back in the day, I got both Exalted with Timbermaw Hold, getting the Trinket, and then the Frostsaber mount. I don't even want to think about how long it took me to do those.
Playing Horde this time around, so yeah going for that Timbermaw Hold trinket "Defender of the Timbermaw" once again. If I make an Alliance character (on a server with 75% Alliance) I would of course go after the Frostsaber Mount once again.
High warlord was so worth it. Spend like 6 months in av. Then when you finally get the rank you dont have enough money so need to ask guild mates. Those days where fun 😅
I can't believe you didn't mention the hidden effect of proccing Ironfoe! It causes all your say/yell text to be in dwarvish for a while! Yes, this includes horde!
Winterspring Frostsaber is the OG grind mount. Got it during TBC and still ride it, even in the Dragon Isles.
I have a friend who did the frost saber mount grind. He was one of the first to get it on our classic server and he basically did the farm 16 hours a day for 3 weeks minus raid times. I helped him with it sometimes and he made a pretty penny off the op consumables the mobs in the camp dropped. It was definitely a rough grind.
I’m pretty new to wow, like I only started playing this weeks and Iv been playing classic instead of retail and I saw someone on that frost mount in iron forge earlier today and thought it looked cool and thought nothing of it and now I feel guilty for not standing there and making it known that I appreciate the effort they went to to get it lol
I have it... the Winterspring Frostsaber mount. And I did all of the quests that you could do. If I remember correctly I would take both quests simultaneously to get as much rep as possible between turnins.
I never got rank 14, but would often be invited to our servers best BG group as a stand in. They needed plenty of stand ins for the warrior to maintain a good group to 5 cap arathi basin and win as fast as possible.
Not only is Rank 14 a grind, but i was part of a “cap” , which was a group of players that would rotate the rank so that others could not get it. This was done by keeping the honor threshold high to block people from getting it.
the missing keyword here is ACCOUNT-SHARING..
On most PvP servers there was always a group that as you said, rotated the rank14 title under them via account sharing. At least 1 Account will be played 24/7 in BG to ensure him the Rank14 title.
I managed Rank11 on Guldan (EU), one of the most overpopulated and hyped PvP servers back than. I did had my 1st job at that time and it was a nightmare. 2 account sharing groups competing against each other and me doing solo farm (without group in BG as warlock). After I managed to get to Top40ish (managed to hold it for about a few months), I would had to play 24/7 to get any further (and I even outplayed some 24/7 accounts due to farm efficiency as solo warlock and due to having no real life over these months other than wow and my job, while dropping daily sleep to 4-5h over that time period..).
A total nightmare, nothing else to say here.. xD

There was also a pathing winterpaw mob that always gave you rep and dropped an item for rep. I did the frost saber mount grind. Meat was usually available in the Ah. I thought it was easier then timberpaw rep which I did not finish. If you have the gold to spend it can cut the grind in half if not by more.

I had gotten the medicine pouch held in offhand on my level 19 twink hunter. Took forever just sitting next to people getting rep
I ground out the winterspring frodtsaber mount. It put me very close to exhaulted with the timbermaw furbogs. I did this twice once each for warrior and rogue.

Rank14 grind beats every grind in every game ever designed in my oppinion. You needed to play for 12-16hours constantly EVERY day (that means NO day of pause or only playing like 8-12hours) for a loong time, almost no breaks during the playtime. One of my friends in school died very shortly after he reached r14..serious

i remember farming Sunfury Bloodwarders for Plans: Greater Ward of Shielding, killed about 500 until it dropped
Woul've expected the Hydraxxian Waterlords or Buccaneers in this list. Now that's a hell of a grind. :D Wintersaber did it on 2 characters. Every day a few runs and you get there in a few weeks. :) But it's classic, I did it when i was level 80 in wotlk ^^ Those kill quests aren't too bad when you do them with a friend or so :)
LOL I did the Winterspring and the Timbermaw reps back in the day...it was a pain in the ass alright!
I did that Winterspring grind twice. once in Vanilla and another in BC on a different character. It took forever.
I did the winterspring frostsaber grind twice. Once on my human warlock. Rep was increased to 75 per quest and the frost maul was 125. So i got 82/83 and 140 per due to diplomacy. took about 2-3 weeks of full on questing. Go to raid, finish raid, hearth to everlook and start grinding.
Second time was on my druid immediately after finishing my warlock. Druid took a month and a half due to burning out half way and 3/4 of the way. I took long breaks.
All this was done on hughesnet satelite internet so some days I wasn't able to play because ping was over 2k.
After killing all those mobs and looting my epic loots were the following: Winterspring Frostsaber.
Bloodsail Bucaneeers rep grind should've been on the list. That was insane, especially if you had first quested in STV..
A guild member of mine did the frostsaber grind. He spent day and night grinding. Took him over a month of pure grinding, I believe.
I got the Wintersaber mount. It took me a whole week, one time when I was jobless.
I did the winterspring fs mount durung endless guild officer discussions. farming the rep while discussing was better than jumping through IF
The rep grinds in classic are extremely time consuming. Its crazy how much easier they made them in all of the subsequent expansions.
Mike Hagan yeah making them more diverse instead of 10Xs easier would of been better.
i remember my baron mount grind being the worst. always thought you had to do it in 45mins baron run
I did the furlbogs in a single night in vanilla back in the day
I also did the Furlbog, and Frostsaber grinds..........sooo happy I'll never do them again lol

ironfoe is also BIS for tanks as multiple swings equal more threat equals more rage equals more shield slams and other abilities
Did the timbermaw hall all the way to top Jeez took me ages to get that trinket plus that grind was good for epick mount which was taking even longer
I did the timbermaw rep years ago during vanilla.
i remember the old pvp... i got myself for rank 11 for the "cheap" 100% mount. a friend managed to get high marshal but it was through account sharing, grinding the character for him while he was at work and mostly winning all the bg... i mean you had to win all of them for weeks. but there could only be 1 or 2 rank 14 per server the same week, so you had to do some politics with other aspiring guilds to be able to get your rank. even had to deal with horde guild leaders for that. after that you could be sure the player would take a few month break, because as soon as my friend came back from work, he was online pvp grinding till he felt asleep.
I remember vividly the day I quit Wow. It was very early days. I'd played from beta, but our guild was amateur at best. It was on an RP server because world pvp was a nosebleed if you wanted to actually quest at the time. I was an EQ1 vet, and had some other games under my belt. Wow was a beautiful, bright and colourful easymode in comparison (Most players had no idea how they were spoiled rotten with the big glowing question marks for quests and such.). Two years in I'd gotten my act together and was one of the main heals in our raidgroup. But the reality of the grind was getting on my nerves.
There was one guy I knew, he was the one pro amongst us. A Warlock player, he lived for PVP. Highest ranking guy anyone in the raid group knew personally. The only reason he slumming on the server with us was to play alongside some players he knew IRL. Well one day this guy finally got a drop he'd been waiting months for. It was some offhand I think, and I listened to him gushing over Vent about it. This late twenties man was as giddy as a schoolboy. He linked the item. It was a fractional increase on what he had previously. He was more excited and proud than I was when I got laid for the first time. I sat at my keyboard, unable to conceive of any polite response. I was genuinely shocked. In that moment I realised I'd wasted near two years on this - and I wasnt even close to that level of investment in the game, and that I would be horrified if I had found myself to be. I quit the game, and went out drinking with some friends I'd been neglecting. I often wonder if that fella is still playing.
Savage gladiator chain is very easy to grind, even if you dont cheese it. Now for cheesing it, if you can multibox or have a friend around playing warlock, paladin or shaman (while you are the other class), you can farm this very fast. I used to multibox this with a warlock and resto shaman myself, to get the chain for my shaman. Here's how:
Warlock gets inside the arena, while the shaman/paladin stands outside the gates (you can also have both enter, but it might require some corpse runs which is inefficient). Warlock specs into demo for soul link and -70% interrupt chance on hellfire + hellfire stun chance. Then pops voidwalker, and undresses. If the wrong boss spawns, the warlock kills himself on purpose to reset the fight, and the shaman/paladin resses the lock. Repeat until the right boss spawns, and once he does you get fully clothed (use an addon) and use your voidwalker to tank while you whittle down the boss. The shaman/paladin meanwhile stands outside the gates and heals the warlock and voidwalker. The voidwalker is more than capable of tanking these bosses, provided the shaman/paladin can heal, whereas the warlock has unlimited mana with lifetap anyway. It's probably easier with a paladin for blessing of salvation (void walkers suck at aggro), but can be done with a shaman as well as long as the warlock minds his positioning for tranquil air totem and makes sure the voidwalker does NOT get it. The reason you spec into a demo/ruin hybrid is because you need to be able to mow down the mobs with hellfire aoe, and for your voidwalker to get as tanky as possible.
Anyway, if you have a setup like this, a bonus is that you can duo-farm the entire BRD.
Yes that's right, you can take it all on, as long as the shaman/paladin has around T2 levels of healing gear.
I did it myself several times, and the warlock can even have pretty crap gear as long as he has decent stamina and this particular spec that allows him to AOE down the mobs in BRD like it was a WOTLK dungeon.
Meaning, you can do a full run and farm:
- Savage gladiator's chain, followed by
- Ace of elementals from Incendius, followed by a jump into the lava stream to reach
- Ironfoe/HoJ from emperor.

I did the timbermaw rep, the trinket was awesome in pvp
I grinded the Timbermaw Hold rep to Exalted on my main. It took a while, but not that long! I still have the trinket in my main's bank! That was during WOTLK, when I was new to the game. But I certainly wasnt max level! In fact. I was at the levels that were appropriate for the zones.
You got more rep per kill and turn ins in wotlk for timbermaw.
I remember only having to kill ~700 Timbermaw for the revered->exalted... while that memory *might* be from partway through, there's just no way it was 10,000 of the furry buggers. I also have the kitty mount and use Insane as my title most of the time.
I know a man that played 9 mounths 5 hours per day on classsic and he took grandmarchel level 14.
Combat rogue spec'ed into Riposte, with Ironfoe MH. There is another mace out there with a stun proc as well.....
Didn't know Savage Gladiator armor was so hard to get... I guess I got lucky on my enhancement shammy back then.
Frostsaber is easy, it just takes several days to grow up the cat. At least I sure don't remember it taking that many quests. You must be missing some info for sure? Or maybe I got it after vanilla...
I remember back on Feathermoon RP server, there was a troll shaman RPer named Matsujin who was High Warlord. Imagine that. Dude has time to get that rank AND roleplay. There's a reason I still remember him to this dau.
I was on Feathermoon in 2005-2009 for sure.... I was Alliance though. That name sounds familiar.
Frostsaber quest is quite easy. Stay near everlook, collect quest items there then bank it. Collect more then bank it again and again. So you only need to take the quest once from npc

I was on a PVP server during Wrath and got tired of being ganked. I went over to Winter Spring and spent all my time farming this rep. I have actually done this grind. Takes a long time.
back in vanillah days there was a hunter in my guild who was going for it. and he did get it. i would say about 2 months max he got it. i remember him literally being on every time i was on, and back then i did 14-18 hour gaming sessions. which i can no longer do or even want to do. his name was i believe lenhart or lionhart. night elf male. shadowmoon or dragonmaw server. cant remember as i played both servers. i remember him getting it finally and literally couple months later never saw him again.

I played Vanilla and I rank 3 which is Sergeant in PVP and I still have that title in BFA. Which is the orginal charater of Vanilla that was level 60 human mage. :)
The medicine pouch from timbermaw is BiS offhand for 19 caster twinks too

I remember grinding Timbermaw rep with a level 1 twink. WEEKS of grinding. Twink was a ghost following my main around (2 accounts) till it could buy the off-hand medicine bag. Dont think the off-hand ever came in handy...

I did the winter sable back in wrath days on 3 toons then next freaking expac cata they make all mounts account wide which upset me a lot. Just did the winter sable rep on TBC classic with my hunter and it was a good source of income with his skinning
I grinded winterspring mount back in vanilla as a full time hardcore holy priest, so i had no spell dmg, no dmg at all and could not keep swapping specs to have dmg for the grinding either due to respec costs back then. Yup, took a toll...

As Alliance do the winterspring trainers quests at the same time as the wintermaw rep because you'll get wintermaw rep for killing the furlbogs and the necklaces.
I started playing in WOTLK, and grinded my Timbermaw rep to exalted as soon as I was high enough level to be in Felwood. It really didn't seem to take that long. I just wanted the trinket! Which is probably still in my bank! Idk though. I haven't played since MOP.
I did both timbermaw and Winterspring frost saber in 2009.
