Maybe someone might find this usefull. On the v1.4 firmware the volume controlls are there: fn + s = volume down fn + d = volume up fn + f = mute There is also a possibility to "lock" the arrow keys without any extra programming: R_alt + space = activates or deactivates the arrow keys. Once activated, you get: R_shift = up PN = down FN = left R_ctrl = right cheers
Yes that was very useful! Thank you, I was searching for this information everywhere. I was in the middle of typing and all of a sudden I could no longer use the right Shift key. Not even Fn+R (Reset) is working to undo that, so I had to unplug the keyboard. This arrow key lock is such a stupid feature, but reading all these comments about people missing their arrow keys I understand why they added it. I use CapsLock+hjkl with an AHK script.
I wish more reviews were like this: No annoying TH-cam voice or weird antics, crisp video quality, smooth editing, and a thorough, straightforward overview of the features. Sure, there were a few minor slip ups that had to be fixed (like the part about the LEDs), but this is basically my platonic ideal for a TH-cam product review.
I know this is an older review, but you can download volumouse for volume control. I had mine setup to a fairly simple alt-mousewheel combination. No autohotkey required, I believe you can also customize the step value. Easier than a keyboard button, even if they had kept that function in.
Glad to hear it. I've got a HHKB P2, and love it, but what really annoys me is the volume function keys only work on Mac OS, and not Windows, which I use the keyboard on. I was considering getting a Pok3r (either this one or the RGB variant), so it's good to hear it's optimized for Windows.
Nice review. thanks. been waiting anxiously for this one. The aluminium case raises the bar enough against the competition to put it in the number 1 position against the competition including the Poker 2. Raising the bar on their currrent programming model is also pretty darn impressive. For those of us with a poker 2 and an alumimum case the question is a little harder. Is toggle Colemak/Dvorak worth losing the sound keys and switching to the less well thought out fixed function layer? Moving WASD has displaced fn keys that were reasonably well thought out. While the fingers can learn anything with enough practice having keys in places that make sense when you are thinking about where they are helps. It doesn't quite replace a fully programmable or let us drop AutoHotkey out of the equation though :( This keyboard is going to sell extremely well and force the other 60%'ers to pick up their game or cut their margins. If I had a stock poker 2 I would be placing my order today. But it looks like I will have to keep using Autohotkey or learn how to solder. Impressed but disappointed. thanks for the review.
Whoever hit the dislike buttom they meant "dis i like" because the video is complete and set to the point, with smart commentary. Sunscribed for more good tech review.
Think you need to check again. "Backlighting is not currently available, but they may introduce it later with dual-color LEDs." You aren't getting that as part of your $120.
Falcrist On the contrary there is many reports that the circuit board itself will not allow LED mods. Please Rhino, it would be great if you could confirm with the Vortext team and issue a retractment if needed. Vortex Facebook: i.imgur.com/ANUoTs9.png GeekHack forum post: geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69443.msg1684683#msg1684683
Falcrist Yes, at added time and expense, if you have the skills to do so. Just not part of your $120. Then again, I don't expect the average Joe to be buying this keyboard anyway...
scottjl If you're moist too, that's great!... but my post doesn't refer to anyone but me, and I have the skills and components already. I've actually installed LED backlighting in my PurePro already. Thus my cost for a backlit keyboard will be $120 (plus some immaterial amount for solder and bulk LEDs), unless that functionality has been removed in the current circuit board... which is not what it looks like in this video.
AutoHotkey is great. I also use it for the volume controls on my HHKB Pro 2 Type S and it works flawlessly. I'm already using AHK for other purposes as well so adding 3 new commands for volume up, down, and mute was no big deal.
Really looking forward to this, I like my Ducky Mini a lot, and am really wanting another 60%. I tried going back to tenkeyless but it just felt too big.
hi rhinofeed. great review again.. but one thing I'm not sure of from the review is the possibility to program the shift key layer independently of the a shifted key.. I use programmer dvorak which has a different shift key layout for the number row and a couple of the other keys. Also can you still change the win key to fn, or just caps lock. Love my poker 2 but would be great to have programmer dvorak right on the keyboard along with qwerty for when other people need to use the keyboard or I need to use their computers.
I'm highly considering getting a white pok3r with clears, however, not sure if I should order it now or if I should wait till the end of July for a backlit version. If the backlit version uses ABS or the somewhat weird backlit PBT caps, I would be uninterested. However, if it uses the same PBT caps as the regular pok3r, I'd prefer to have that. Thoughts?
Great keyboard and great review. Is there any further explanations or videos that show how other people use the programmability of this keyboard? Having to hold Fn to use the extra/programmed keys is a bit un-ergonomic, but I'm probably just doing something wrong.
Hello Mr Rhinofeed. I have Magicforce 68 with OUTEMU Brown switches and I'm thinking of getting Vortex Pok3r with MX Clear switches. I have never tried the switches but after reading a lot about them they seem to be perfect for me. I'm OK with my Magicforce 68 and I wonder how much of an improvement will Pok3r with MX Clears be over it. I wonder is there a chance I could be disappointed with it as it's 170$ in Europe vs 40$ for Magicforce. Is it really that much better to justify 130$ price gap?
May be a stupid question but ive never used a 60% keyboard but was thinking of getting one, as I game I use the arrow keys in games and was wondering how do you decided whether to use the IJKL or the arrow keys as I assume you dont have to hold the function key down to use them as that would be practical gaming.
Is it possible to set a macro on this to spam a key ever x seconds? For example, I press #1 key, it turns on macro to spam #1 every 6 sec, then I press #1 key again and it turns off the macro.
Got my Vortex Pok3r about 2 years ago and past year have had constant problems with disconnecting if the reattachable cable moves even a little. Tried also few different cables and some work better than others but nothing really work well enough. Would not recommend to buy this keyboard since the price it costs they should make sure its premium and not cut costs on some key parts of the product.
I found some media keys on my poker 3 at least for volume control : FN+ S = volume down ; FN + D = volume up; FN + F = mute on\off Although I still prefer to use my rat 9 thumb wheel as a volume nob as its just under my finger
Hi ! first of all, thank you for this gr8 review. I have a question though. Since I work as a 3D artist, the possibility to remap the numpad keys is essential (on many 3D software numpad numbers and the top row numbers are affected to different actions). Since you can program your keylayout onlydirectly from the keyboard, I assume that you can't assign key that does'nt exist on the board. But you said that you could remap arrow key on the WASD (even if arrows are on the fn layout) So maybe (I hope) I'm wrong. Can you also remap pageup and down ? The only sure thing is that you cannot map special function like volume up/down since a lot of people seem to miss those shortcuts.
Rhinofeed Thank you for the quick answer. This nice keyboard is not for me in the end (little regrets). The only solution to remap numpad is to have a fully programmable keyboard from software (or the same system on a fullsize). Do you know keyboards that may have this functionnality ? So far I only found the rapoo, but it's very cheap (good for the price but not for the switch: deskthority.net/review-f45/the-rapoo-v7-fully-programmable-mechanical-under-40-t1153.html) or the possibility of a hack on certain keyboard by replacing the stock controller by a custom.
Samuel Bernou That's a tough one. At the moment I don't know of any keyboards that do that, but I'm sure there has to be more than just the Rapoo out there.
Printed keys are so 2015. Blank keys and full programability is where it's at. Also the Ergodox EZ has programmable hotkeys in the firmware, so Windows must support this.
A quick question about the programming if I may, does it allow you to simulate holding a key to make combinations? I.e. ctrl+c or is it just a string of keypresses?
It would be awesome if you could help me and I will appreciate it a lot! I am thinking of getting this keyboard because i need something smaller so I can have the mouse closer. If you used Dvorak I imagine the arrows etc would remain to the same location rather then keycap. Really that is only thing I don't like. Especially because I wouldn't imagine them making custom keycaps for such anyways
I really want to buy this keyboard but i read about the ink issue with the key-caps, Could someone let me know if its possible / easily remove the key-caps letter ink so it looks like a stealth keys ?
+Timothy Tsang i'm sure it would be, with some nail polish remover or something. i bought my keyboard (idk) a few months ago and the ink is already starting to wear off on multiple keys
you can use autohotkey to set volume in windows ;Ctrl+Up - Turn volume up ^Up:: SoundSet +5 Return ;Ctrl+Down - Turn volume down ^Down:: SoundSet -5 Return
+Olav Samuelsen Telneset or you use the built-in function to controll the volume. fn + s = volume down fn + d = volume up fn + f = mute I am on the firmware version 1.4

I think the one thing that might stop me from getting this is simply the cherry stabilisers, is it a particular dealbreaker for anyone else or am I just being nitpicky?
I just sold mine. I kind of wish I could have kept it but I sold it for more than double what I got it for. Deals. I also have a Code 61, basically a Pok3r and a Pok3r RGB LE and a Tina C
Where did you get it? I'm looking for a non-backlit pok3r, the very same as in this video and I would buy it instantly with this price point. Please let me know! Thanks :)
Rhinofeed Yes, but you have to update the firmware and put the leds in the wrong way (+ goes to - or such, because the keyboard uses dual led colors and if you have a single color led, the led will just not work, also after doing all that, press FN + X to activate the leds, FN + C to dim the lights and FN + V to brighten the lights)
+Burn1nSun Could anyone post a video showing this working? Is there any information you can cite that confirms this? I've been doing a lot of research.
+tonyfalca NM finally figured it out. 1. FN + , *to enter layer 2* 2. FN + R_CTRL *to activate programming* 3. Select target key *and the right led under the sapcebar starts blinking* 4. Select desired function 5. PN 6. quickly repeat steps 3 and 4 what a confusing fucking process, especially with no proper instructions anywhere, not even in the user manual
Noooooooooooooooo why did they remove the volume switches? I only have one keyboard without volume controls and that is the Topre Type Heaven and it sits in my closet because of it. ;( Damn it Vortex. I might just hit up a Poker II instead.
Maybe someone might find this usefull. On the v1.4 firmware the volume controlls are there:
fn + s = volume down
fn + d = volume up
fn + f = mute
There is also a possibility to "lock" the arrow keys without any extra programming:

+Rhinofeed also there is rgb keyboards now :)
+lillskiten1337 Just got the new POK3R RGB in for review. The unboxing is being uploaded now!
iirc you can control volume by default on pok3r w/ FN+S, FN+D, FN+F
Glad to hear it. I've got a HHKB P2, and love it, but what really annoys me is the volume function keys only work on Mac OS, and not Windows, which I use the keyboard on. I was considering getting a Pok3r (either this one or the RGB variant), so it's good to hear it's optimized for Windows.
Definitely considering getting this when it comes out.
Gonna buy this keyboard. Thanks for the review, mate. Cheers!
I just got the pok3r with cherry mx clears, it's by far the best keyboard I've ever owned.
I may return mine, way too firm and mushy
Nice review. thanks. been waiting anxiously for this one.

There is a firmware update to include (fn) QWE for media controls. Also, (fn) SD is volume up and down, at least on Windows.

Ryan Riches That is correct.

On this keyboard it possible to do these 2 things?
1) To have it so that by pressing Esc = [ ` ] , Shift + Esc = [ ~ ] and pressing Fn + Esc = [Esc ]. In other words have [ ` ] and [ ~ ] have the priority instead of the Esc.
2) If you change the Caps Lock to be Fn, can you have Caps Lock in other key?

It's a very nice looking keyboard and it looks well made. It seems silly to have a huge desk and a tiny keyboard that awkwardly combines key though
If you used Dvorak I imagine the arrows etc would remain to the same location rather then keycap. Really that is only thing I don't like. Especially because I wouldn't imagine them making custom keycaps for such anyways
Take a look at 3RVX. It allows you to use Win+Scroll up/down to control volume.

+greg ulok ah,thats good to know. Ordered this keyboard some days ago, i'm very excited.
is this for gaming? i dont want to buy the other one Is there an LED version?
yes
As a Topre lover, it's the only MX board that I want to have in my collection. ;)
this keyboard looks amazing...
How do you add the backlight? What does he mean by that?
Add your own leds
Do you know when they'll release the White model with blues?
Also, do you know when they'll release the backlight model?
Also (last question) where did you get your wooden wrist rest?
I really like to get this keyboard, but WTF is with the keys for the curser (left, right, up, down) ?? I don't think I would get used to this.
M. Molli i dont understand you honestly
any news on backlighting?? it's been 3 months!
Torn between this or the V60.
Anyone know if the Poker II will come down in price?
No price drop. They are simply discontinouing the Poker 2 entirely
does the poker 3 have anti ghosting for gaming?
When you're looking for the "Esc" key, my friend, you don't want any silly unconventional vertical alignments. It's gotta look like that, like an emergency exit sign or something!
Love that nickel centinewtons test. :-P
I think the one thing that might stop me from getting this is simply the cherry stabilisers, is it a particular dealbreaker for anyone else or am I just being nitpicky?
DeadDogz Personally I prefer them. Once lubed they are lovely.
Alex I need to lube these stabs.

But when will they be available?
Does my poker 2 case fit this one ?
my poker 2 actually warps a bit, but the pok3r is just so solid
what does it mean by programming in a poker keyboard
How do you think this keyboard would fair for gaming?
Ravenbutt I think I would prefer a linear switch for gaming, but that's up to you. Other-wise it's a solid keyboard!
How can I lock the windows key on this keyboard?
i really want this keyboard but it probably wont be my main just because of non traditional arrows
Can you add your own leds to the Pok3r?
Yes, he stated that in the video.

+TOGGI3 there was a confirmation in the firmware update and the controls are written in the manual. I have done it and it works great!
+Burn1nSun What size / type of dual color LEDs do I need? Obviously common cathode (3 legs) are out right?
*so how do i change my arrow keys to L_CTRL (left arrow), L_SHIFT (up arrow), L_WIN (down arrow), and L_ALT (right arrow)?!?!?!!!*
+tonyfalca NM finally figured it out.
1. FN + , *to enter layer 2*
2. FN + R_CTRL *to activate programming*
3. Select target key *and the right led under the sapcebar starts blinking*
4. Select desired function
5. PN
6. quickly repeat steps 3 and 4
what a confusing fucking process, especially with no proper instructions anywhere, not even in the user manual
+tonyfalca It is literally easy as fuck to find the instructions.
***** oh, yeah? where? in the instruction manual? fucking dunce
how are time delay keys related to coding?
Dip switches, it it 1983? How about a full graphical configurator?
where did you purchase this from?
Noooooooooooooooo why did they remove the volume switches? I only have one keyboard without volume controls and that is the Topre Type Heaven and it sits in my closet because of it. ;( Damn it Vortex. I might just hit up a Poker II instead.
dieburnbot It is very sad isn't it? :(
Rhinofeed Crazy question... do you know if this is the kind of thing that could be changed with a firmware update if the community makes enough noise?
dieburnbot facebook votex confirms they're adding volume controls in a firmware update. So I wouldn't worry too much bout it,.
Can you use WASD . I aint know nothin bout keyboards sorry
How goes the Colemak?
Now if it would only be available for purchase!
