    "Gaming grade peripherals are typically at the leading edge of peripheral design." Bullshit. Certainly not when it comes to keyboards, more like gaming keyboards have the most lights and the ugliest designs.

    These 60% type of keyboard sizes are meant for programmers. They don't want their hands to leave the home row. Some people can navigate the entire linux gui by keyboard only. Programmers are use to using key combos for everything. So because the customization is difficult for many of us, it makes perfect sense to many programmers. In my opinion, they were the ones that started the whole custom keyboard culture, not gamers.

      mirby That's just stereotype honestly I find myself am a Gamer, but I never really like those RGB lighting etc. I don't mind if it doesn't have LED at all, but if I'm buying a keyboard, two are similar keyboards and both of the keyboards are price at 300$ but one is without RGB / LED Lighting and another does feature it, of course I will get the one RGB / LED Lighting. Since it's the same price why not have it ?
      But I won't on purpose pay extra to get the extra lighting of course.
      PS : I didn't labeled myself a gamer to begin with honestly, it's what my friends kept calling me back in the days. So the title stick.

    Awesome video!
    I love the look of this keyboard!
    These custom keyboards influenced me to try my hand at making one myself, as I'm looking for a small ortholinear keyboard. I'm still in the early design phase, but I've started testing on an old broken keyboard by removing the PCB and replacing it with a Teensy 3.1 controller board and hand soldering the matrix. It taught me a lot about how keyboards and soldering work, as well as the fact that I want to do more projects like this!
    Hope to see you guys having a look at more of these more niche keyboards in the future!!!

    Impressive how much popularity these smaller layouts have gained over the past few years. For myself, I didn't even know about other layouts than full-size and TKL on mechanical keyboards, just from some cheap multimedia keyboards with an integrated touchpad. Now I'm typing this on my Ducky Mecha Mini.

      I don't know who popularized the "set aperture to 1.8 / 2.0 and pull the focus ring" style of "tech reviews", but it gets old pretty quick.
      I would suggest spending time on optimizing the script (i.e., eliminating any redundancies), rather than showing Food Network-style focus porn with a keyboard on a flat surface.

    Fantastic review, had I known about this awesome keyboard I probably would have purchased one. I've used full size keyboards all my life until recently. Really wanted a new mech keyboard and came across the Pok3r RGB. Fell in love with it almost immediately and that's what I'm using now. Took some getting used to a 60% but it's awesome.
    As for the Whitefox I can understand why you have to do most things yourself. It's an experience to build and use it. I'll be on the look out for others like it.

    I've been using a Ducky Mini for the past couple years so I'm used to the 60% layout. If you don't need the number pad, once you get used to the extra desk space, it's hard to go back to a full size. I think for the ability to customize the function layers so extensively, the keyboard would definitely be worth the price. Might consider this in the future.

    I've actually been rocking the Ajazz AK33 recently and really love it. The overall design is pretty kickass as well as it's the 75% layout as opposed to the ~60% of the whitefox. The AK33 doesn't have cherry switches which is unfortunate, but these seem pretty similar to cherry imho. The 75% layout for me is a lot better than the 60% because it's not all that much bigger and you get a lot more functionality. Really the only thing at all you lose is the num key pad.

      +Ro0ster I have a laptop where the f keys are combined with media keys, and having to hold fn every time I want to use a function key is a pain in the butt. It especially sucks in games where I need to switch to 3rd person really quick and then I have to find the function key, hold it, and then take my right hand off the mouse and find f3 of whatever it is. It takes a lot of time and that's why the absence of fn keys can be bad especially if you need it quickly.

    • @maggiejordan2638
      @maggiejordan2638 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ro0ster good point. I'm pretty bad at hand eye coordination so it's hard for me to find the fn button sometimes. I'll look into changing my f buttons to wasd so that I don't have to lift my hands. My hands a pretty small so I have to sometimes strength to reach keys. Thanks for the suggestion though I'll definitely look into that ;)

    Yes, keep up the quest for the perfect keyboard. I may consider this sort of keyboard due to the build quality and compact design.

    The white fox is a beauty. and for those who dont know - there are tons of such typist/programmer keyboards on massdrop

    I love these things, but I do not want to build them. So the cost becomes extremely prohibitive. I'm stuck with prebuilt keyboards, heh. I do want to find something similar to this layout though. A step down from the tenkeyless keybaords, but not so far down as the 61 key ones.

    So, would it be possible to swap the keys and the layout so that you can have a Swedish/Nordic layout on the keyboard?

    • @TimIsABat
      @TimIsABat 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes since it is programmable and if you can get a hand on the keycaps there ya go

    Good God, this keyboard is sexy af, I've been wanting to splurge on this every time it comes up on Massdrop but I just can't justify the price tag on it. Yet.
    I'll be doing a lot of local traveling next year and I might pick up this board's variant, Nightfox or the Red Scarf II+ when it comes back up on Massdrop.

      Not everyone buys into the "compact" keyboard meme.

      +alksdjf;alsdjf while I do agree with you about it being pretty pointless but IMO this should be for people looking for soemth mobile and compact, like people working in IT or something Cus having such a small keyboard in an office is well, quite simply dumb.

    • @strotlemon5293
      @strotlemon5293 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      How is it a meme? Some people prefer compact keyboards. They can do everything a normal keyboard can, only quicker through programmable function layers. They're more functional than a fullsize.
