When Sean joked that Jimmy Carr was "creative with numbers" this was a reference to Carr being found to have dodged taxes via offshore companies some years ago. He's rightly taken the piss out of on many occasions over this.

Yes, Germany have four world cups but the English and Germans were fierce rivals and England beat them in their only win in '66. Americans don't really see themselves as rivals or equals to anyone so it's tough to understand the sibling relationships and references that exist in Europe.

Freddie Flintoff is a host on Top Gear now Noah. You also saw Rhod on Taskmaster I think. Jimmy had some issues with his taxes, hence the joke about him doing the numbers.
The episode is actually from 2014- Series 3- the series are a little mixed up on Wiki as it started off as occasional specials before becoming its own series. There are currently either 18 or 19 series depending on whether you count the initial 4 specials as their own series, before the show got commissioned as an actual series.
I think the ratings declined when Jon stopped being a captain.

In his stand up act (which I have seen live), Henning Wehn's comment on the 2 world wars, 1 world cup, is to point out how many times Germany has won (of course) as for the 2 world wars.... 3rd time lucky.
I think Sean Lock's appearances, or lack thereof, affect the ratings.
Countdown is an afternoon show of words and numbers; designed for the retired - you have to make the longest word out of the 9 letters/Try and reach the random number using the only the 6 set of numbers on the cards. The teasers and conundrums are anagrams.
8 Out of 10 Cats is a late evening comedy panel show; anything goes really.
Channel 4 decided to mix both shows together and you get this, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown :) It's genius!

If you do another one, you should try to get one that includes Roisin Conaty. They are definitely some of the funniest or even the episode when Jimmy brought out a basket of 4 or so kittens in one of the 30 sec timer sections and had to run around the desk to control them all so they didn't try and jump off the desk. Excellent distraction technique.

Yeah that totally never happened... I never bothered watching it after watching a podcast with the actor that plays Jay and they had NO idea they were supposed to be 'in character.' This actor almost had an anxiety attack during that mess of a show. Feels bad. :(

One of the reasons for the decline in ratings is because fewer and fewer people watch TV. With the economy as it has been over the past decade, especially since 2016 and the Brexit referendum, a lot of people choose to not watch TV to save a bit of money on both the TV licence and whatever digital package they would have had, instead spending a little bit more on a half-decent internet connection or a good phone package.
Entertainment has moved online more and more, and traditional TV has generally not caught up with that. Channel 4 IS offering their shows online, but in a format that is very heavily influenced by their network TV format, with frequent and long ad breaks. With so many of their online competitors either having different ad formats or opting for a subscription model, they have lost a lot of viewers.
I don't think people have stopped watching tv for financial reasons. It's because of all the falsehoods broadcast by the media.....and a bit of tv licence.

the reference to 2 world wars and 1 world cup is in reference to England beating the germans in the two wars, and beating them in the 1966 world cup. Its a common football chant by English fans.

I agree with you about the actual history, but cracking that joke in a london theatre to an english crowd was spectacular lol. 1/3 of the Crowd was. bursting their holes laughing, 1/3 were stifling their laughter because they thought it was funny but thought they shouldn't laugh, and 1/3 were giving him the dirtiest look ever haha.

The series numbering of this and other Channel 4 shows like The Last Leg are a real bugger. Nobody seems to have decided what they are, and Wiki and TVDB seem to be at odds with each other. Most annoying when you are trying to see older repeats and Channel 4 themselves don't have them on '4od' (Presumably down to rights issues).
You should react to tv show "taskmaster" particularly the series with rod Gilbert in it.

Two things I haven't seen in the US: comedy panel shows and dull quizzes (where the prize is a teapot....). Maybe I am wrong and this stuff exists but even so not to the level you see it in the UK.
The quizzes without big prizes or flashy gimmicks tend to be better (and tougher).

I think that "quiz culture" is a lot less developed in North America than it is in Europe and the UK especially.
For example, most modest sized towns in the UK will have more than one pub which hosts a quiz for anyone to enter one night a week. Even in Canada similar quizzes aren't common.

Usually the tea time teasers are written on screen just before advert break. The idea is to rearrange the letters with the clue to make a new word.
I remember how deadly seriously Brazil took that defeat. One of the national newspapers had a totally black front page with the headline along the lines of "National Humiliation*" or something like that. At the bottom of the page the asterisk read "By the time you read this sentence, Germany will have scored again." Damn.
Also the match was uploaded onto alot of porn sites under humiliation so much so that this caused some of them to crash.

America has more cricket pitch's than English have got. And the oldest known trophy competition in the world is played by America and Canada and it is a cricket match for a trophy. This fact was by another game show And the show is called QI which deals in real facts. And Jimmy Carr joined a scheme where you paid less tax and it was legal and not illegal and at the time one of the Take That members of a pop group paid cash for a house in London and this house was over 8 to 10 million pounds but then that would have been between $12 and $15 million allegedly. But Jimmy Carr took all the flack for a tax scandal at the time.
Not sure about the more pitches bit, villages and towns all over the country have pitches on greens. Four pitches within about 1 mile of where I live in London, but only one holds professional matches (Middlesex T20 once a year), the others amateur club or even pub sides.

The fall in recent viewing figures is down to to the constant political point scoring from celeb,s ect that's crept into comedy and light entertainment programs in the UK on all platforms. we look else where like u tube and subscription channels likeover the pond with Hollywood ect were pissed off with it all

Series 2 Episode 18 should have tipped you off it was wrong as we don't really do 18 episodes per series on these. This was episode 18 overall but Series 4 Episode 2. And yes England did indeed go out in the group stage in 2014. I blame Jon!

Yeah the intro to the show does take a good 10 minutes every episode but everyone has to get their comedy in. Also schadenfreude is my favourite word. I have to admit to enjoying a bit of it sometimes.
I only watched a few series of it and then after that just cherry pick episodes with guests I like. Anything with Roisin Conaty, Bob Mortimer and Greg Davies. But Roisin is definitely my favourite.
Katherine Ryan is good as well. Kevin Bridges is hilarious when he's on as well.
