    You are a fabulous instructor and I feel so fortunate that I have found you! I am getting my ceramics studio back into operation after a lengthy hiatus and I really needed to get my knowledge refreshed. You are doing for me so much more than refreshing.. you are expanding my understanding of the processes and techniques and inspiring me. Thank you so much for being so generous and helping us who love working with clay thrive through this pandemic❣Sue, Boulder, Colorado, USA

    I’m new to pottery and been wanting to incorporate more layering and color without fussy under glaze work. Previous decorative painter so I like to layer and use stencils. Just watched Decorating pottery using slip underglaze and vinyl stencils. Jumped to this reveal video. Can’t wait to go back and watch the first to how to videos and create using this idea. So glad I found your videos and eager to do the work and create!

    Finally got to see your latest and I must say the wonky pot is by far my favourite. Not just the mono on it, the detail, the utility, and the design.
    Sorry to undo your vision Sarah, the last time I went to the beach I was covered head to foot in sunblock clothing. My drink of choice would be a Guinness in a cocktail glass.
    Another good video with good pointers and I am pleased that you mentioned turning the wonky pot upside down. Silly me would have not thought when I try to fire some. It could be especially messy single firing.

      @@thepotterycorner thank you for getting back to me. Thought I would mention that Mitch Lyons used a clay based paint that he made from porcelain slip mixed with painters pigment for his prints on Reemay. He did not print with acrylic paint. Such an amazing process that he invented. I have made several of these types of prints with good results. For printing on clay he used ceramic pigments with slip for firing. The process is amazing. You have put your own methods to the process on clay that are truly expanding on Mitch’s original methods. Bravo! Thank you again for your delightful videos. I am now a follower and look forward to more on your channel.

      Hi Lisa - the wonky pot is completely glazed in transparent but I have wiped just the end of the feet to remove the glaze so it can stand on the kiln shelf before firing. It has sagged a tiny bit from the weight but there is no other way to get these through. They obviously need to be water tight to put a plant in them. That really is pretty funny. When you do this all you can think about is all the things you can use for it and you end up pulling everything and anything out and it is a huge “mess”! I tried this for the first time after watching your first video on this. I ended up turning the clay over because I didn’t like the first side, then I loved how the second side came out but now I have underglaze on the bottom of my pieces!! Not sure what to do now. Lol

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michele - glad you've tried the technique. As you say, you can easily get carried away! If the slab is still viable, you could take a metal kidney and scrape the underglaze and slip off the side you don't like - this might save the other side. Hope that helps 🙏

    Beautiful. Those turned out great. Bummer about the cracked one tho. Can it be repaired?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Fred for watching. Sometimes you have to accept the cracks- luckily they don't happen often. I have thought about putting some gold on it and highlighting the cracks to show that not everything is perfect- but still beautiful. I might get around to that for the next lustre firing 🔥 🤔

    Hello, your monoprint works are stunning!! I'm happy found your channel. Just question, how you transfer the clay slab on "mould" to not loose monoprinted pattern?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anna and thanks so much for watching. I'm glad you found the channel too. I usually leave the monoprinted slabs to dry overnight before putting them over my moulds. The underglaze and slip will dry enough by then. Really hope that helps 🙏 😊

    I've been binge watching your videos - so inspired by them! I must try this technique. I already have a few Mason stains to play with. And the idea of making pastels out of coloured slip blew my mind! Have you ever tried simply drawing/painting directly with the pastels? Just curious how well they'd work.

    Can we do this mono printing on bone dry piece if our paper is really wet?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jabeen and thanks for watching. It's better to do monoprinting on leather hard clay as very dry pieces don't let the slip adhere well. Hope that helps 🙏

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JoAnn and thanks for watching. I used Earthstone Handbuilding Stoneware clay body. This is a white body when bisque fired and this gives me a "light" background clay colour when fired. Hope that helps. Great to have you along. ☺️

    Did you make a video about how to use the molds without distorting the print? Also do you use a release agent or does it come off easily? I have had some cracking with slump molds and would love to know how to avoid this

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya. Thanks for watching and commenting. If the monoprint slab isn't wet, i.e. passed the suede stage but not leather hard, then you can use the slabs without cracking. I hope that helps. 🙏

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      P.s. you could use talc or corn starch on a mould but this would dry out the slab meaning likely cracking 😊

    WOW! I just watched all three of your videos. I've been wanting to try some new techniques and I can't wait to get started! You are soooo good at demonstrating and your instructions are very clear. You make it look so easy, but I'm sure it's going to take a lot of practice! I can't wait to see more. I do have a question...... what is the difference between using colored slip versus underglaze? Can you use just underglaze? Or does it work better with the colored slip first, then underglaze?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Zarrabi. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the technique. Do give it a go - it really is rewarding. You can use just underglaze but the slip is better in combination. I tend to use the underglaze on the top "layers" as the colour is more dense. The slip is more of a background layer. Hope that helps. Don't forget to send me some pictures of your finished work. ☺️

    Beautiful, functional art! Can't wait to have a go. I have only been dabbling for about six months. I find your videos very inspiring. Can I just ask if it would be possible to brush on clear glaze or would it spoil the design? Best wishes from Margate, Kent.

      Hi Kay and thanks for watching. I do put a transparent glaze over my pieces once biscuit fired. It does change the colour somewhat which is why I talk about the muted pallette and not going too strong. If you watch the 3 videos on monoprinting (there is a playlist on my channel) you'll see the final pieces. Hope that helps 😀

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lori - the tissue dots etc burn off during the biscuit firing without causing a problem to the kiln. If you were to use newspaper stencils then I would remove those. Hope that helps 🙏

    Thank you so much for sharing your monoprint method! I tried monoprint on clay but colours are not so shiny as in your plates. Did you add somethibg to the slip? I use white clay (terracotta) fired into bisque and then I add cristallina and fire it again. Must I add cristallina before first fired? Thank you for advice

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sandra and thanks for watching. I glaze my monoprinted pieces with a transparent glaze which is why they are shiny. I think you need that to get the colours to shine. Hope that helps. Great to have you along 😀

    • @sandrafaita607
      @sandrafaita607 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your answer and your time. The problem is that I decored clay leather hard but when I fire the first time, the bisqued objects are not light and when I glazed with transparent glaze, they become shine but they aren't brilliant. Never mind, I'll win! I love pottery because it is always reaseach...;-)
