We estimate he was in that chair for just over 3 weeks; we had to cut the upholstery away from him. We've had him on IV fluids and plan to reintroduce solid foods tomorrow, he is expected to make a full recovery in time.
The best QoL mod is just journey mode. Duplication is broken but you're still interacting with the game's mechanics for the most part, and the spawn rate and time cheats are straightforward to work out.
True that, I always play in Journey mode just for the ability to dupe items. And you still feel like you earned it, because usually you've got to have so much of an item to dupe it. So I end up not using any items I get until I can duplicate them, so the base starter bag stuff I do install just becomes research fodder anyway. I will play until I find 10 heart crystals before even thinking of increasing my hearts.

The only time I ever played modded terraria is when my friends forced me to play calamity with them. This video is an accurate sumation of what that experience was like, just with more projectiles on screen

He didn't even have to worry about NPC happiness because that was taken care of without being on 'getfixedboi'! The 'starter bags' were over the top. The insane mining speed and ore markers, and also the overstuffed drop rates... Nah bro, it's "QoL"! Yeah, sure, okay...
My grandparents love this video, all they do is watch it over and over. They have never played terraria but something about this video in particular just hooked them and it’s becoming a problem tbh
There are two types of quality of life mods: ones that fix the weak points in the game, and ones that remove the challenge from the game. Like, a mod that lets you skip an invasion after the first time you’ve beaten it? Perfectly fine as long as it comes with a price. A mod that deletes that invasion from the game? Well why should I even be playing?
You still play the game? I'm impressed, because I personally prefer to outsource the gameplay to someone else, who then sends me raports about what they did in the game, which I dont wanna bother reading, so I outsource that job to someone else, who then sends me emojis that describe the raport, but I dont wanna read that either, so I outsource the job of understanding the emojis to someone else, who then just tells me "Good" or "Bad", depending on what the emojis meant
I won't play Terraria with my friends anymore because they take literally every part but the boss fights out of the game, and even those are made lame by the prep consisting of making a coin farm and buying everything needed.
Well yeah, the bossfights are the fun parts. All the other stuff is boring af imo. I played vanilla a while ago and it was a bore. I would personally just do the parts I think are fun, or sink to the lowest common denominator in mp.
@@DoctorBones1 They are not at all necessary for beating the game, especially the Rod of Discord. It is a very useful tool, like how the Greedy Ring and Ankh Shield are, but again they're optional and getting them should be an ordeal and thus it is immensily satisfying to finally get them, same with every rare drop in the game, hell even regular boss drops are hype af if they match your class. The Slime Staff is a bit odd considering how rare it is for an essential summoner minion-only run item, it's a bit of an edge case. Calamity adds a starter bag that gives you one alongside a few other items you could easily craft anyways, which I don't really mind. It's a small kickstart for the adventure, not skipping the adventure in favor of a boss rush grindathon because apparently that's all the game is good for.
@@Haispawner i think i misunderstood what you said - i thought you were trying to make a point that ALL qol is bad and the vanilla grind is ok as is but i think things like as you said the calamity starter bag and magic storage is fine to exist. I was stunned by how easy the fight was! Even Mechdusa was easier to defeat than WoF, even without cheesing, it took me only 12 attempts to defeat Mechdusa (and about 3 hours), while it took me about 50 or 70 attempts on WoF (and about 9 hours).
this is on par with me 4 years ago playing calamity and whenever i reached a progression point i would just spawn in the items i couldve gotten at that stage, along with having “qol” mods and when i stopped is when i appreciated terraria
After reading these comments I have realized that people have an unbelievably skewed vision of the term ''quality of life'' and either go to a hilarious extreme of using them (starting off with rare drop items, extra accessory slots, instant mining etc) or a hilarious extreme of NOT using them (not willing to use magic storage for example)
i am the hilarious extreme of not using them. mostly cuz i like when i have to care for my resources and building and they kinda ruin *my* experience of the game.
To be fair, it's hard to tell when a QoL feature is actually a good idea. Sometimes something can look like it's just a minor convenience/inconvenience but it may ruin the experience without the player even fully realizing. That's why you tend to get vanilla elitists in mod heavy games.
Terraria is the only game I currently know where this is even the definition of quality of life. Starbound has mods that do stuff like slightly better swimming, traits or not getting undressed while sleeping listed as qol
I'm definitely on the side of using none of them. Mainly because I just enjoy the parts of the game that QoL works to avoid. I like how annoying potions are to make, not because I like the grind, but because it makes them scarcer. The more annoying they are the get, the more I want to try beating bosses without them. Same with arenas. Large arenas take a while to make so a make small ones. Often times just one wooden platform, to challenge myself to beat the boss without a good arena. I remember when I was playing Calamity a while back I reached the cryo boss and me entire arena was a tiny cramped wooden platform (probably less than 20 tiles) cramped between two awkward hills. I tried beating it with that arena and no buff potions. And after dying a ton of times while he had less than 700 HP I decided to use a single buff potion and immediately, but I still had fun. It was interesting trying to learn how to dodge every attack with the shitty arena. And for magic storage, I just like having an organized chest room. Honestly I feel like scrolling through every item I have or typing the name or however it works, would be slower than just finding it after I've sorted everything. If you prefer the game with it then that's completely fine, but I don't so I don't use it.
"nah man, its just a QoL change to be able to beat the game with an item that I have in my inventory right when I start that instantly completes everything there is to do so I have everything unlocked, and it also build a base with chests with every block and item in them. It's all just QoL to make playing easier."
Wow this guy is so funny and original and cool; if he branched out and did more things I would watch it immediately! And I would be smiling the whole time because of how boosted my engagement is!
- Wait, that's straight up cheating - Oh, we don't use those bad words in here to not hurt the feelings of our calamity players. We recommend the term "Quality of life"
He was not lying about the calamity players btw I played calamity for the first time with a friend whos played it like 20 times And it was a less exaggerated version of this Installing "quality of life" mods that were secretly "the only thing i wanna do is fight bosses" mods
Tbh. It's kind of odd cause there are actual boss rush worlds and mods you can download. However, that takes more work than just spamming the download button on workshop and hitting enable all The multiplayer section on the Calamity discord is kind of a nightmare if you look at their mod list. Trying to play with every QoL mod and every content mod they've ever heard of on a single world. I actually get people pissed at me when they try and play with me cause I pretty much just use Quality of Terraria and turn off most of its features except the few I like. Like all the instant builds, infinite anything, bigger backpack etc.. I turn off But like the cool new building tools, auto trash, etc... I'll keep on. Keep stuff on that actually improves the game without making it feel cheap. Like I think even sustaining buffs through death is pushing it but it's definitely a really good feature to have on multiplayer and when you are playing mods that are designed with stupidly punishing bosses. Where dying like 20+ times to learn the fight is normal
i have not played terraria in years, somehow got recommended this video, but i am thankful that there are people as anti-qol as me ""quality of life"" and that need for constant action is what made me realize there'll never be a good monster hunter game ever again inconvenience in games is fun! starting out weak is fun! a game's world not bending to your will is fun! not everything needs to be a constant stream of short term dopamine hits
my favorite quality of life setting for new worlds in terraria is going in with my main save and putting a zenith in the first chest i find then starting a new character, it really helps tone down some of the annoyance of having to start a new save and slowly going through that early progression :)

Thank you for opening my third eye now i understand what it truly means to be optimal

I always play with QoL addons now, but I've finished the game legit and then a complete playthrough of Calamity legit. Its probably best to do it with the base game first, but its understandable if you don't want to farm all those 1% drops on subsequent playthroughs.
@@dccdislame Meh. Generally they are components for something I enjoy having like cell phone or ankh shield (which I farmed legit once or twice already, and its just not fun to do again). lol
Experts' recommendation - click forward 10 seconds and you will not have to hear the line, thus finishing the video unchallenged.
Just to update everyone, Mike has finished the video. He might have died in his chair if not for a sneeze coming on at just the right moment for him not to hear the 10 second rewind instruction.
I will play until I find 10 heart crystals before even thinking of increasing my hearts.
there's a mod that adds the duplication/research men u to normal mode (idk if its been updated to the newest version though)
Play journey mode on master difficulty and 10x spawn rate. It's a whole new way to play the game and it's surprisingly doable.

Well why should I even be playing?
cheese the type of guy to have pre-approved comments
Optimizing the fun out of Terraria
Well yeah, the bossfights are the fun parts. All the other stuff is boring af imo. I played vanilla a while ago and it was a bore. I would personally just do the parts I think are fun, or sink to the lowest common denominator in mp.
@@Haispawner You and i have very different ideas of fun if you think that farming for stuff like rod of discord or slime staff is fine.
Calamity also allows the rod of discord to be sold at an expensive price by the wizard under certain conditions if you dont want to grind for it.

this is on par with me 4 years ago playing calamity and whenever i reached a progression point i would just spawn in the items i couldve gotten at that stage, along with having “qol” mods
and when i stopped is when i appreciated terraria
I will never use magic storage I like making chest rooms

Like all the instant builds, infinite anything, bigger backpack etc.. I turn off But like the cool new building tools, auto trash, etc... I'll keep on. Keep stuff on that actually improves the game without making it feel cheap.
